This is a solo-rp for Nisshou H's soquili Dark Mousey and Clea. Kindly do not post.

((And I'll say this up front for anyone reading this...no, they do not know they're related.))

Dark could hardly believe what had happened. It just didn't make sense. He'd gone away for a year and a half, maybe two years he couldn't be sure. That wasn't very long at all. So how had she managed to pull this off in such a short amount of time?

The winged stallion was aloft, circling over an area where forest met stone. "She" wasn't there at the time but a couple of her lackeys were. A mare with a lion's tail and a pair of birds. They had been left in charge of guarding the cave while the rest of the group had gone out, probably for some heist or another. Really another thief in the area shouldn't bother him, he was the best after all. However, considering that this thief was his own daughter and she had made it her business to take all of his things while he was away he was taking it personally.

To make matters worse she seemed to slowly be taking over the area that he had once considered his grounds. He wasn't entirely sure how she was going about it but he had his suspicions. It was probably the flutter's doing, the black one, the one that frequently had meetings with her. It seemed to Dark that every time they met up they did something beyond thieving and it seemed to have a ripple effect on the area.

After a few more minutes of observation he turned away to glide on the wind to a small clearing a few hundred yards away. He touched down with the ease of an old pro and folded his wings to his sides with the same effortless grace. He'd been observing Carmine's little gang for the past few months and had even tried to hinder her by snatching her targets before she got there. It hadn't worked. He had decided that now was the time to take direct action, he could handle a couple birds and the mare easily enough and even if he couldn't get enough to make a dent in her stash his presence would be known and he knew that would rattle her a bit.

She felt bad for leaving, really she did, but this was something she felt she needed to figure out. Unfortunately it wasn't something she could really figure out at home. No one at home really understood it better than her. Though, the further away she got from home the more she wondered if this was a good idea.

She paused and looked up at the sky peeking through the tree tops. This was definitely a good idea. If it wasn't there was no way the sky would be so blue. She smiled feeling at ease once again before picking up her feet and getting a move on. She was looking for a thief that was supposed to be in the area. A professional thief. If anyone would have an idea of what was going on with her it would be a real thief. However, Clea didn't actually know how to go about finding this thief's exact locations. 'In a cave at the edge of the forest' was the only clue she had received.

"But...there sure are a lot of caves out here." She mused with a giggle. She had checked three already with no luck. What she really needed were some better directions. As she made her way past a bare spot in the trees a flash of movement caught her attention. She turned to see what it was and cheered happily, it was another soquili! He had magnificent wings like her sisters had but he actually looked cool using them. Her eyes widened and her mouth slackened in amazement as she watched him land. The second he tucked his wings she darted forward.

"That was so cool!" She exclaimed so quickly that her words jumbled together. She looked him over quickly with a big smile on her face. Would she grow up to be that cool one day? She'd pretty much stopped growing already though and she was pretty far away from landing in any category but cute or quirky. Oh well, cute wasn't bad! "So hey, listen! I'm looking for someone named Carmine. Do you know who she is? Can you help me find her?" She needed help and here was help. It was a good idea to get information while she had the chance.

His first thought, upon seeing the mare, ran something along the lines of 'crap.' For a brief moment he thought this was the guard that his daughter had left behind. After getting a better look at her he determined this wasn't the case. Her hair was different, she actually had some accessories on her and even more glaringly obvious than all of that was the golden horn on her head. This girl was a pure unicorn, not some mongrel picked out of a shady grove. She appeared younger and after listening to her gushing over him he had no doubt in his mind that she was little more than a child. She was probably still growing into her body.

He turned his head away from her a little irritated. Someone thought he was impressive and it turns out to be a kid. Just his luck. He was fully intent on turning an leaving right then. She could babble to herself for all he cared. But then a name popped up. An annoying name belonging to a troublesome woman. Carmine. His attention shot back to the kid quickly.

"What are you looking for her for?" He asked sounding more suspicious than he planned on. He just wasn't sure he liked the looks of this. Had his daughter managed to recruit yet another follower? That was the last thing he wanted, someone else guarding a cave full of his things that he wanted back. No one stole from a phantom thief and got away with it.

"Huh?" She blinked a couple times. He hadn't seemed interested in her a couple seconds ago but what had caught his interest really brightened up her day. "So you do know her! That's really great! Can you tell me where she is?" Her tail started to twitch back and forth behind her as she waited for the answer. When she became consciously aware that that's what she was doing she remembered that he'd asked a question first.

"Oh! Wait, you get an answer first!" She laughed at her own mistake a sound that was something between a mouse's squeak and a gopher's hiccup. She had been told several times that her laugh was one of those that could either be adorable or completely obnoxious. Most people found it irritating but that didn't stop her. "I'm looking for her cause she can help me you know." She bobbed her head up and down several times causing the large bead securing her hair to twitch about.

"They say she's a thief, a good one. The two leggers never know what hits em." Clea could only imagine how cool that would be. She was lucky to grab something without being noticed. More often than not she was caught in the act or shortly after. "I wanna be good like that, but I need help you know."

"Oh, she's a thief alright." Dark muttered trying to not sound as murderous as he was feeling. It wasn't a good thing if word of Carmine alone was drawing people to her. Though that left a few questions hanging in the air. The first, why Carmine? The second, why did this kid want to learn anything about thieving to begin with?

The winged thief turned his gaze to the child once again to get a better look at her. She was a unicorn, and a full one judging by the looks of things. Clearly she had a taste for human accessories, spherical baubles mostly. Her hair was also styled. It was likely that she had some interaction with humans. Beyond the physical she also seemed impossibly cheerful in a way that could only be described as aggravating. One of those 'the basket is half full' types.

If he knew his daughter as well as he thought he did Dark was pretty sure that in a matter of days he'd have even more competition in the form of this bubbly unicorn. That was not something he could allow as much as it pained him to go to such drastic measures.

"Yeah, I know where Carmine is." He answered finally. "I don't know why you want her though. She's not that good and she is not the only thief around. If you're looking for the best then look no further cause I'm the best there is." Oh how it pained him to say it. There had been a time when everyone knew who he was without a word spoken to them. How sad that such a time was gone.

Clea hadn't missed the cold tone that the wind's voice took on. It didn't take a genius to figure out what he was angry about. Carmine had obviously targeted him at some point. Maybe she took something valuable too. Something that had worth enough to make the stallion hold a grudge. Really about the only thing Clea didn't manage to pick up on was the fact that Carmine was his daughter. That was probably because she had it in her head that the two had probably been an item at one point.

She was so wrapped up in putting together her version of things that she didn't really notice that she was being examined for some time. Eventually the unusual prolonged silence managed to catch her attention and snap her out of her imagination. She quirked an eyebrow and shifted her weight around. Things were approaching awkward and would have been had the stallion not decided to open his mouth.

"You do?!" She asked excitedly, eyes widening. Any cheerful feeling she had subsided quickly as he continued before soaring to new heights. "You are?" Her mouth slackened with awe. It didn't take much to impress her in the end. She was too trusting. If someone said they were something or could do something she would believe them without needing a demonstration. It helped that she could easily envision this stallion riding the night air with a jeweled necklace dangling from his mouth. How fantastic.

"If you're the best then you can help me right? Right?!" She asked invading his personal bubble. "I want to be a thief! No wait! I want to be a good thief! A great thief! A master thief!" Her eyes sparkled and danced with elation and she hadn't even given him a chance to answer yet. "Please teach me, master!" At this point she was standing barely an inch away from him gazing up in adoration. One day she would grow and would actually be able to look him in the eye. Right now she was eye level with his throat.

Immediately Dark found himself wishing he hadn't bothered to say anything at all. His neck tensed as pulled his head back, away from the child. Clearly her parents had never taught her anything about personal space and this invasion wasn't something he was ready to endure willingly. Perhaps for a pretty lady, no definitely for a pretty lady, but not for an over-eager, irritating kid. He should have just sent her off in the wrong direction, perhaps all the way down to that weird jungle. That would have stopped her from meeting Carmine for sure.

"I don't have time to be teaching little kids." Feeling that those words should be the end of it he brushed past the unicorn and sauntered off deeper into the woods, and far away from Carmine. She was a problem. Screw being a proverbial thorn in his side she was an entire thorny bush. He glanced behind him without turning his head before refocusing his gaze to the front. It wasn't worth it. Carmine could have her. He snorted in laughter at the thought. The uni would probably drive his daughter crazy anyway.

"Huh?" Clea blinked her clear blue eyes a few times watching as her teacher of choice walked right by her without so much as a second look. He was backing out already? But they hadn't even started yet! She couldn't believe it. Why was he refusing? She was a hard worker. She was driven and a good listener some of the time. The uni mare whirled about to watch Dark's retreating back. He didn't want her around.

What did that mean for her now?

She could go back to her original plan and track down Carmine. Though, she still didn't know exactly where that mare was. He hadn't told her and the way she saw it he had with held the information on purpose. She scrunched her face up and stuck her tongue out at the stallion. Fine. She'd come this far without any help. She could find Carmine without help too. Turning her back on Dark she started walking off in a randomly selected direction.

Carmine, the second best thief in the land.

She paused. Clea didn't want to learn how to be a skilled thief from the second best. If she wanted to become an amazing thief herself she had to learn from the best and he was walking in the other direction. "Heeey!" She called whipping herself around and bolting after him. "You're not getting rid of me that easy, master! Not until you teach me!" It was times like these that it became clear that 'driven' was simply another word for 'stubborn.'

It wasn't that he didn't believe that he was being chased, it was that he wished that it wasn't happening. The girl couldn't take a hint even when it was less of a hint and more of a blatant statement. "I'm not teachin' you anything." He was vaguely hoping that being a little more direct would help get the message across. However, Dark didn't bother waiting to see if his hoping would pay off. If he was going to get away from the pest he was going to have to do more than tell her to bug off. The Phantom Thief bolted.

While Dark was more skilled at moving in the air he was no novice on the ground. His hooves flew over the ground so fast that they barely seemed to touch down. He bounded over obstacles and danced around trees and bushes as he galloped in a wide arc through the trees. He could feel that he was getting close to his escape route before he ever saw it prompting the spreading of beautiful black wings. When the clearing came back into his view he knew he was home free.

Spreading his wings wide he beat them down in swift practiced moments. Before he had time to think he was soaring above the forest trees. He could go anywhere from here, but, more importantly, he was free of the uni pest now!

Whether she did not hear the stallion over the pounding of her own hooves or simply did not care was debatable. Whatever the reason was Clea didn't stop and stare dumbfounded when he picked up speed. Instead she charged after him. Her tail whipped out around her as she ran helping her keep her balance. It occurred to her, at the first jump upon tripping over it, that Dark had a bit of an unfair advantage. She knew a little bit about her heritage. She knew she was related to ones with wings, her sisters both had them after all, and she knew that meant that all three of them had lighter than average bones. They'd always been good jumpers but this stallion was evidently pure, or at least mostly, wind.

"I won't lose." She mumbled pushing herself to her feet. Lighter or not Clea could catch him. She knew it and with that in her mind she took off again pushing herself harder than before. She could just make out the stallion's tail dancing around up ahead and focused on that. It wasn't until she made it back to the clearing that she realized she had been duped. Turning her gaze upward she could see the stallion climbing higher into the sky. She took in deep breaths to calm her heart before marching off in the direction he was heading keeping her gaze on the sky.

"I accept your challenge, master."
