Prompt--
Quote:
This chestnut appaloosa mare is one of the shortest of her breed, sporting dainty features and a flashy coat. Naturally a young native warrior thought she'd make the perfect wooing gift for a fair young maiden of his tribe, and successfully caught her from the wild. Upon decorating her hide with vibrant pink spirit paint and adding a courtship chain bracelet to her attire, he presented the mare to his quarry- pretty as could be... AND now its your job to finish this tale of love for me. What happens next and how does the little mare escape her captors?

Horse's Name: Alestra
One-word Personality: Overachieving
Prompt Response:
Alestra hadn’t quite understood the situation, given that the humans had been garbling in a tongue she knew nothing of and that she had been half-mad with panic, but what she had seen was that the female had all but swooned at the male’s gesture, which had been… well, Alestra herself. Now that, the little mare had understood, and understanding made her angry. Not quite as much as the silly pink paint and the ludicrous charm she had around her leg, but almost.

And then he had had the nerve to suggest the female get on for a ride? He must have mistaken Alestra for some mindless pack pony with nothing better to do than to trot about on command. But no worry. Alestra was small, but she was in no way stupid. She let the man attempt to calm her down, restraining her evasion to small, fidgety crabsteps so that the woman could swing up. The man let go, and the woman, laughing, squeezed her calves against Alestra’s sides.

The little mare swung, fixing her eye upon the man before charging forward. Her ears flipped flat against her head, and as she passed him, she threw a defiant buck, and then another, swinging her hindquarters out to unseat the poor young woman. The woman flew through the air, and behind her, Alestra heard the man’s shout of horror. The paint mare turned her head, just in time to see the man dive to catch the woman. She heard the breath of relief, saw the tight hug, watched the woman fling her arms around the man’s neck…

So her duty here was done. With a snort, the spotted mare shook her head and cantered back to freedom.

Horse's Name: Sahana
One-word Personality: Deceptive
Prompt Response:

I don't like deceiving others, but often I have no other choice...

The rope felt constricting around her neck, the tough fibers chaffing against her sensitive skin. Cool metal pressed against her foreleg, a simple yet effective brand that marked her human-touched forever. A bracelet, one that appeared dainty yet was strong enough to withstand her removal efforts. The faint smell of wet dye still clung to the air, emanating from around her shoulder, rump, eyes and nostrils. A feather tickled the inside of her nose gently.

Sahana felt like she was about to sneeze. But she held it in, instead batting her eyes at the strange male two-legger and playing the part of a prefect, dainty mare. He was leading her, pulling on the cord around her neck, forcing her to follow. And she pranced along by his side like a love-struck mare. She could almost fool herself into believing that she was the innocent, sweet mare she acted. Almost.

Aha. There was her true quarry. The female two-legger. Of course, he was trying to woo her. She didn't have to understand their strange, jagged language to get that. That was all two-leggers seemed to do, fight and mate, and let's face it, Sahana was no war-horse. It made perfect sense that the male would use her to impress his lady-friend.

And still the mare pranced along happily, not revealing herself to be anything but a well-trained riding horse. The rope continued to rub against her almost painfully, but she cast all feeling away. The next few moments would be crucial. The female two-legger cast an approving eye on her. Her hands reached forwards, trying to touch Sahana's coat. The mare let her, leaning in slightly. Her disgust for humans and all their kind was deeply repressed for the time being.

Hands wandered across her. She heard the female exclaim something to the male. And... there! The bait was sprung. The female was reaching forwards, toying with the rope around her neck. Sahana stayed stock still, snorting as though with pleasure at the woman. The rough cord was raised from her neck. She bowed her head, allowing the woman to take the rope off easily. For a second, she remained standing. The humans relaxed as the mare did not bolt.

And then she was off. With a rear, Sahana turned and prepared to gallop away. The female grabbed her mane painfully whilst the male tried to restrain her with the rope. But Sahana was not as dainty in strength as she had seemed. With a huge ripple of her muscles, she broke free and ran. Ran far away. And the woman weeped whilst the rope chaffed against her once more.

You left me no choice....

Horse's Name: Maya
One-word Personality: Lost in Thought (I'm sure you meant three word personality xD)
Prompt Response: Heather watched the beautiful mare with adoration in her eyes. How could such a lovely horse walk this earth. Her height was perfect. Her flowing gait would be easy to sit. Heather sighed. How she would love for that horse to be hers. And then she saw the bracelet that meant she was intended for some lucky woman.

Heather sighed, but then it looked like the horse was coming to her. She stared, so happy was she that she raced out to greet the mare. However then the memory of the bracelet hit her. That meant... she turned to glance at the man holding the reins. Black Thorn. He had tried to clean himself up. His buck teeth had been scraped clean and his unruly black hair was tied back. Sadly there was nothing he could do for that giant duckbill of a nose.

Patting the mare's neck she thought on her feet. She wanted the mare.... she didn't want him... she had to think of a way to make it all work. She pondered and pondered and then the worst thing that could happen, happened. Her father nodded. She was to be wed to this duck faced man. The two men shook hands and Heather was left holding the reins of her new pony.

---

It would be a cold day in hell before she married that man... She paced the length of her tepee and then back. Then the idea struck her hard and fast. Sneaking out of the tepee she glanced around. Her lovely pony was tied to the tag pole. She moved over and placed a hand on her nose. "Maya... we need to get you out of here.... just for a couple days ok..." If her courting dowry was gone then it would be taken as a bad sign and she wouldn't have to marry Black Thorn. Untying the mare she lead her out of the Village. She only went far enough that a patrol wouldn't find her.

She tied her to the large ash tree near the creek. "Ok lovely... I will be back for you. "

----

Maya dreamed the following two days away. She dreamed of the open plains running at top speeds. how ever when the sun rose on the third day she decided it would be better to do than to simply dream her life away. She tugged at the rope holding her. It gave. She frowned. It hadn't been tied tightly at all.

Trotting carefully she made her way back to the village, the only home she had ever really known... The two year old had always lived with her mother... however now she was alone. No, she was free. She turned and ran. As fast as her little legs would take her. She ran, happy to be her own mare.

----

Heather pushed through the underbrush. "Maya dear?" She lost her smile as she saw that her beautiful pony was gone. She frowned. Well,at least she didn't have to marry that ugly man.
