The clinking of dishes and silverware reverberated throughout the cafeteria while most of the occupants ate their dinner before returning to their duties or going elsewhere in the base to do other, possibly productive things. One trainee, however, was doing none of these things.

Inigo sat at a booth up against one wall, a rather imposing book sitting open in front of him that held his full attention - or most of it, anyway, as his fingers occasionally fumbled over to the plate a few inches from the book to pick at what he had left. The meals were less than pleasant here, especially compared to his mom's cooking, but that couldn't be helped, and he couldn't cook his own food either, so regardless of his opinions on the mysterious-looking things they called 'food' he had to eat it. At the moment, however, he was fully engrossed in the book laying on the table before him - botany related, of course - so he was barely paying any attention to what he was eating except to make sure that it really was edible. Laying on the bench across from him were a Snivy and a Deerling, the latter of which was at this time mostly green, though several patches of pink remained in certain areas.

Despite the insulation of the styrofoam cup, the coldness of the tea it contained seeped through to the small hands that carried it. A cool drink to refresh and refocus, and then back to... something. Aila had already completed her assignments for the day and had been advised to avoid strenuous exercise for a while, so that didn't leave a great deal with which to fill the rest of her day. Well, it was her own fault, she supposed, so she would simply have to bear with it...

She hadn't planned to remain in the cafeteria for any longer than it took to obtain her desired drink, but a familiar face accompanied by familiar pokemon attracted her attention, and she paused at the table with a mild curiosity. "I would have thought that Deerling's coat would change more quickly in the middle of the desert," she said offhandedly, observing Fantasia with quiet interest. "Do you suppose the change is caused by an internal mechanism?" So nonchalant were her remarks that one might have thought one was imagining the pink-marked Jirachi clinging to her shoulder, staring in wide-eyed expectation.

It took until the word 'Deerling' for Inigo to realize the words whoever was speaking were directed at him, and his bright green eyes flitted first to the pokemon in question. "I thought so too, but si, I think it is. I haven't brought her outside much," because he hadn't gone outside much; being outside was wonderful, but being stranded in the middle of a barren wasteland of a desert was more than just a little depressing, "but she does like to sunbathe when she can, though I'm still not sure if that helps the color change at all. I think the change might happen faster if she lived outside, though I'm not sure about the differences of the effects living in the desert or in a forest would have."

After the lengthy speculation, Inigo finally turned his head to look up at the one who had addressed him. His intrigued expression morphed into one of recognition, and a lopsided grin quickly replaced the neutral line of his mouth. "Hola," he greeted, "how're you? I haven't seen you in a while." It wasn't his fault he was so busy with his varied training classes and trainee duties. It was then his bright eyes turned to regard the legendary clone on her shoulder - not that he knew that it was a legend or a clone, given his lack of knowledge of anything not plant-related - and his expression turned to one similar to Luciole's. "Qué es esto?"

"It'd be interesting to obtain a second Deerling and have it live in a different environment," she contributed, albeit somewhat absently. Though the subject and the ideas born of it were interesting, it wasn't a practical field of study for the agent - for one, where could she even find a second Deerling, and how would she keep it in an environment separate from the one in which she lived and worked? Well, there were probably researchers worldwide who had had the same curiosities; a little research would go a long way towards finding those answers, or at least towards fine-tuning her own hypotheses.

"Fine, thank you," she answered with a nod. "Rather busy, but nothing that can be helped." Well, apparently it could be helped - nearly blacking out in a hallway achieved a few days of light duty - but the solution was impractical, and so Aila withheld. "I trust your training is going well?" She followed his gaze to Luciole, recognizing the Spanish that he used from her studies. "This is Luciole," she responded, earning a smile from the legendary. "A cloned Jirachi. Luciole, this is Inigo."

"Inigo?" The voice, not unlike that of a little girl's, was projected into the minds of all within earshot as the Jirachi studied the face of the named.

"Si, it would," he agreed, expression brightening at the thought, but he quickly ran into the same block as Aila - obtaining a second, and finding some stable, controlled environment in which it could live. But then, he'd need to observe both on a daily basis, and that (along with the other issues) pretty much made the idea impossible, so he dropped it with a mental shrug.

"Ah, yo tambien," he said with a slight wave of his hand, his expression falling a bit. Not too much, but it was at least obvious he wasn't as enthusiastic about this topic as he was about plants and research. "Still trying to get used to everything, it's really... different," he finished, his palms up in a vague gesture as he offered a small shrug. Well, it was different. He'd lived so close to forests all his life - he'd practically grown up in them - and he'd suddenly been uprooted and dropped in the middle of a mostly barren desert. And it was his own decision to do so, too, which made it worse. Then again, it would be just as bad - if not worse - if it hadn't been his decision.

"A clone?" That was something he didn't know Team Rocket could do... But the sudden voice in his head that wasn't anything like his own made his eyebrows shoot up, a surprised and perplexed expression on his face, before he pointed at the clone curiously and looked at Aila. "It can talk?" Well, obviously it must, he'd just heard it himself. The fact made him grin - lop-sided, as usual - and bright green eyes focused on the little legend. "Hola, Luciole. Como estas?"

"It is different indeed," she said with a nod. "I don't suspect there are many places similar to this... A headquarters building for an organized crime syndicate in the middle of a desert. A rarity, to be sure." Though that was the point, wasn't it? If every criminal organization built its headquarters in a desert, then it would be terribly easy to find them. "You'll get used to it eventually," she assured. "Just go about it open-mindedly."

Aila enticed Luciole out from behind her shoulder gently, "Yes. Actually, the vast majority of pokemon produced here are clones. Eclair was technically a clone as well, made from the DNA of two other pokemon instead of one." She spoke about it as if it were second nature, but it really was quite the amazing scientific accomplishment when viewed objectively. "Talking is relative," she replied. "It's more like telepathy, but the fact that she can communicate with human words is no less amazing for it."

Luciole clung to Aila's arm, staring wide-eyed at the stranger in a studied evaluation of his character. When he spoke, she tilted her head to a side. "Come a stars?" she repeated - or attempted to, at least.

"Ah, true," he relented with a slight furrowing of his brow and a small shrug of his shoulders. He understood the need for the base to be in the desert, but that didn't make him like it anymore. "I'm trying to," he went on with another shrug. "It's tough, but I'll be fine. Though I love the library," the young botanist said with another lop-sided grin.

"Are they really?" He asked, eyebrows raising. He'd heard of scientists trying to clone pokemon, but so far it seemed like they weren't making much progress, if at all. Team Rocket seemed to have it down to an exact science, in that case. "Eclair was cloned from two? So it's.. sort of like two parents instead of making a copy of just one?" Huh, that was interesting... He'd love to see that process. Even if plants were his specialty, anything science-related easily caught and held his attention. "Telepathy.." Inigo repeated slowly, his grin reappearing when Luciole tried to echo his Spanish words. "Como estas," he repeated slowly, for her benefit. And then, to Aila, "she's adorable. Where'd you get her?" Did the labs just hand out clones whenever they felt like it or something?

"It is an excellent library," she affirmed with a nod. "Not a great deal of leisure materials, but that's understandable in itself." It wasn't a public library, after all. It was a source of information meant to be useful to possible missions. Leisure materials could be purchased on a Rocket's own penny at any of Camphoreon's numerous bookstores.

"Sort of like parents, yes," she said, "but one was a Mismagius and the other Raichu, so they couldn't have parented this egg without the process."

Luciole ducked slightly behind her trainer, watching Inigo with a shy smile. "Como... estars," she attempted to repeat. Aila drew the little legend away from her hiding place with a guiding hand, bringing the Jirachi into full view.

"The labs give legendary clones to agents deemed responsible for what can be equated to field testing," she explained. "They're clones, but they're far from perfect. My job is to observe the clone and ensure no issues arise in its physiology."
