Oh, how she was ready to pop out these foals. She had enjoyed her pregnancy, it was one of the happiest times of her life. But it had been long and she want to see her beautiful children and teach them about the wonders of the world. But alas, it seemed they were quite warm and comfy in her belly for the time being and she'd have to settle for waddling around and devouring copious amounts of grass in the meantime.
The latter of which she was currently doing. She was lucky to be having the foals while the grass was thriving. It meant she would have plenty to eat while having to feed them and they would have a place to hide on occasions when she was alone, such as now. It wasn't uncommon for her to be alone, her family was always quite busy with their own things. But she knew the land well and was never too far away from someone. Her family was incredibly large after all.

Dean was lost. The little colt's delicate white nose quivered nervously as he carefully picked his way through this unfamiliar territory. He knew he couldn't be too far from home, because he knew he hadn't walked too far (or so he hoped). This was the first time he'd gone so far from the grove where his little family lived and he'd completely lost track of where he'd been. Little plum colored ears swiveled in every which direction, trying to catch a familiar sound as Dean silently cursed his own curiosity. If he hadn't chased that butterfly so far, he wouldn't be in this mess.
His ears suddenly perked and stood at attention as he picked up a familiar sound nearby; the ripping up and chewing of grass. Dean's little heart soared, "Mum! Dad!" He grinned and bounded past the thick wall of foliage that separated him from the verdant meadow, only to skid to a halt so suddenly that he fell, tumbling forward to land at the mare's hooves, looking straight up at her.
That definitely wasn't his mother.

Branwen's head shot up as she caught the sound of someone shouting. While she hadn't quite understand what was shouted, experience told her to stay on guard. There was no telling what could be lurking in the brush where that shout had come from. For all she knew there was a vicious Kalona chasing some other poor, helpless Soquili. Or a Skinwalker! Or.....A foal? The thought of a Skinwalker put her on edge and when Dean exploded from the brush she reeled backwards, unintentionally yelping.
As soon as she realized that Dean wasn't something quite so deadly she felt rather silly. And with little pride to get in the way, Branwen easily laughed at herself, and maybe a little bit at the foal now sprawled out at her hooves, "Goodness, you scared me, little guy. Are you alright?" She lowered her head down to his level and gave him a kind smile. It'd been a while since she'd been around a foal, she couldn't deny feeling a little excited to see this one. Especially since she was already feeling anxious to see her own.

After a brief moment of shock, the pale foal scrambled to his hooves, scattering leaves and grass everywhere. At first he was silent for a moment, staring at the mare, the fear of being lost and unable to find his parents gripping him. But he was soon nudged to action by his own curiosity and encouraged by the mare’s kind smile. “Yes, ma’am. I’m alright.” His accented voice was soft as he gave her a little nod. He was still quite unsure, but was being quickly won over by the mare’s overall gentle manner. “I’m sorry for scaring you… I-I didn’t mean to.” Little shadow shrouded hooves shuffled uncertainly.

With a soft chuckle, Branwen shook her head, "That's quite alright. No harm done. Now, what are you doing out here all by yourself? It's not exactly safe." The movement down around his hooves caught her attention and she couldn't help but stare at the shadows as they danced about. They held her mesmerized for quite a while and when she realized what she was doing she shook her head, grinning sheepishly, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare. Your little shadows are just very fascinating." She felt a little ashamed for staring since she knew what it was like to be stared at for being different.

Deanneth looked away sheepishly, “I was just playing… the butterfly… it went too far and I-I chased it.” The little colt was shuffling his hooves, stammering and looking everywhere but the mare’s eyes; the very example of a child who knows he’s done something he shouldn’t. “I didn’t realize I went so far and now I’m… I’m lost.” Those last words were rather pitiful sounding as he spoke them.
His ears perked and he relaxed just a little as she mentioned his shadows. “Thank you, ma’am. I get them from my Mum.” Slightly reassured, he gave her a little smile.

Branwen gave a soft smile, the story of straying too far sounding quite similar to her, "Don't worry about it. We all wander a bit too far from home when we're young. I'm fairly familiar with this area, so maybe I can help you get home." She grinned widely, hoping to reassure him not only that she would help him get home, but that she could be trusted. Even if he already did, she wanted to make sure. Her looks were hard to get around for some.
"Oh, like my wings." Spreading out her wings, Branwen gave them a little flutter to show them off, "I get them from my mom too." And other than some of her markings and colorations, she was glad that was all she got from her mother.

Branwen’s visible kalona traits might have been hard to get past for most, but Dean was too young to see any possible danger. He hadn’t yet been jaded against kalonas and the thought never occurred to him that he might meet an evil Soquili outside the stories that his father always told. A bit taken by her horns, he openly stared at them for a moment. He had never seen anything like them on another Soquili and, having never learned to fear them, he was quite curious. The little colt felt no fear as he drew closer to the gentle female; to him, she was just a friendly mare… a very big mare.
A smile took hold of Dean’s lips as he became more at ease with Branwen. He trotted forward, closing the last few feet of distance between them. “I think I would be afraid to fly; it’s so high up!” He said honestly as his little white muzzle sniffed at her large sides. “I met a filly with wings once… but she was not nearly so big as you.” Dean turned earnest eyes on the mare; he hadn’t meant any offense with his ‘big’ comment, but he was young and hadn’t yet grasped the concept of tact.
