Shard sighed in contentment. He was resting under the shade, by a little stream. It had taken him all morning, but finally he had escaped not only his sister but both their mongooses. Shard loves his sister, even the hyper mongooses, but at times he wants to be alone.
And what exactly is he going to do with his alone time? Sleep. Laze about. Not have to worry about two jittery, hyper active mongooses jumping, running, pouncing, digging and chattering.

Rebirth walked slowly on, her eyes near-closed in peaceful contentment. It was an absolutely beautiful day today, though she couldn't share it with her songbird, Firebird. She'd sent her to keep an eye on some of her offspring, the doe always wondered how they fared. Though the bird couldn't necessarily relay any news, she'd still understand the bird if something was wrong.
Despite that, things were quiet in the swamp. Well, as quiet as a swamp can be, with all its abundance of life. But she enjoyed the sounds the swamp made, and found a broad smile on her face. She heard the sound of a stream, and bent to take a cold sip. It was refreshing, and she hummed a little melody to herself before looking up. On the other side, she spotted a black and white mass. A kimeti?
Bounding over the stream, she stepped quietly towards it. It was a kimeti! Oh! but this one is sleeping...she'd better not disturb him. He looked like a male, something masculine about him..She wasn't going to -check- however, but maybe she'd find out when he wakes..She looked at his horns and tail, peculiar things...His horns pointed -forwards- rather than back, and his tail was a little shorter than a normal kimeti..
Though she was peculiar as well..smiling, she knelt by the buck and watched him sleep.
((like a creeper xD ))

Shard stirs, a buzzing fly pulling him from slumber. Awake enough to swat it away, now he has the itchy, twitchy feeling of being watched. Opening an eye he glances around. And sees no one. Well, they must be on the other side, he thinks. Lifting his head and opening the other eye, Shard has a look. The sight shocks him. A doe, a very beautiful doe at that, is watching him. With a shy smile Shard sits up, clears his throat and speaks. "Hello. Did I.. uh.. keep you waiting?" He's not sure what you ask someone who watched you sleeping. But it seemed something needed to be said.

Rebirth was too lost in her inward questions about the kimeti to realize that it had begun to stir. When he spoke, she jerked back, a little surprised.
"O-oh!" she exclaimed. "So..you -are- a male" she smiled, and immediately looked away in embarrassment. "Not that I was going to -do- anything while you were sleeping.." she quickly muttered. Clearing her throat she added, "I..I wasn't waiting long...I just didn't want to wake you..." in her soft voice.
Daring to look at him once more, she stated, "I'm..Rebirth..." with a smile.

"I wouldn't have slept as long if you had." The words are out before Shard can stop them, and way more flirtatious then he'd usually speak. The black of his cheeks darken with the blush splashing across the skin. "I uh.. that is.. I didn't.." He sighs, giving up. "I'm Shard." He says instead, not sure how to apologist or even sure she would want him too. The truth is Mudslide, Rat and Hop are his only clues into female behavior and all are family, so none are much help.. Well except Mud.. Shard pushes that thought away, not wanting to interrupt this meeting.

Rebirth giggled at the stuttering buck, Shard. She leaned closer and said to him, "You're very cute..and you have such odd looking horns!" she said, moving closer to clamp one of him in her jaws for a gentle tug. She, herself, didn't have any horns. Only a single, large feather protruding from her head. She wondered what would happen if a kimeti were to pluck her feather, but luckily it seemed to be rooted fairly well into her skin. And she protected the feather very carefully. She would feel bald without it! Despite having a head full of raven curls.
And yet, she was jealous of this buck's horns. Not only did most kimeti have them, his were yet different. She smiled, letting go of the horns. Her golden-glowing eyes watched the buck as she asked, "Why were you slumbering when the sun hasn't set yet?" tilting her head slightly.

Shard holds very still as she nibbles his horn, they may not be claw sharp but still sharp enough. "Thank you. Your beautiful yourself." He resists the urge to nuzzle her hair. And that feather. Both beacon to him, but he resists. Better to get to know her first.
"My sister and our pets are very tiring. Well, Twitch and Jitters are. They never stop moving. Rat can sleep through even their most ambitious antics. And their full of energy night and day." Shard stops himself before he can get into a full on ramble. "What about you, wandering alone?"

Rebirth pawed the ground sheepishly at being called beautiful. She tried to listen intently at what he said, despite all sorts of thoughts rushing through her mind. Did he like her? Would he still like her if she told him she already had offspring? Some bucks don't like that...Would he even have a clutch with her? He was such a handsome buck, she wished he would. But what kind of buck was he? He seemed so nice, but he could just be pretending..
She shook her head, trying to clear her mind of all the noise. Eying her now tossled hair, she remembered, Did he just ask me something? Oh! why was I here alone...
She cleared her throat before answering, "I'm also taking a break of sorts. I thought it was the perfect time to spend the day like this, now that my children have been on their own nowadays. Even my songbird is enjoying a day off from my constant rambling." she giggled. OH! I've done it now! I mentioned my children...I hope he doesn't mind. I guess it's better now than later for him to find out...if he does like me and all...

At the mention of children Shard's faces lights up, then falls almost at once. Is she life-mated? Have I been bothering her? Then he perks up again, a new set of thoughts taking over. Maybe she's out looking for a buck. Could be she wants lots of children. This actually produces a grin, it'd be just Shard's luck to find another baby crazed doe. At least Rebirth is not related.
Finally he pushes the thoughts aside and speaks. "Children.. To be honest that is a very touchy subject." He sighs, all of Mudslide's threats, whining and taunts coming back. "Not that I don't want children, I do. I just have a sister who's way to eager for nieces and nephews." And sons, daughters and grandchildren he adds silently. "She has become most.. persistent with the matchmaking, centered fully on looks and not how the doe and I get along." Shard looks mostly at the ground while he speaks, sure Rebirth wants nothing to do with him now that his sister's oddities are out. But better she know now before making any plans for them to have children. Or even before she decides about just being friends.

Rebirth smiled pleasantly and listened politely at everything the buck told her. She absolutely adored when kimeti liked her enough to confide in her! Even if it was the most simplest thing. When he finished, she said, "Your sister sounds quite interesting. I think we have a bit in common! Though I'd never force my offspring to mate with someone they didn't actually like..I guess...we're the same and yet different. While I would love to mate with every shining-pelted buck I find and see what trends follow through, I also care about how my children turn out personality-wise. Will they share the same quirks as I do? The same fears? "It's fascinating when you really think about it. Would our children not only have splotchy patterns, but strange feathers sprouting from their tails? Would our children also like to find time to be alone?" she monologued. Rebirth didn't even realize she began thinking as if she was already pregnant with the buck's offspring. She was too caught up in the moment, barely taking a break to catch her breath long enough for the buck to interject.

Shard listens to her speak, images of foals running rampant in his mind's eye. "They could also have characteristics from our parents and grand parents too. Probably farther back then that, even. I have always thought that the MotherFather picks each attribute a child gets, but have often wondered how she picks." Shard falls silent, once again picturing what children with this doe might look like.

Rebirth moved closer to the buck, looking him in the eyes, her own glowing orbs wide with child-like wonder. With an innocent voice, she asked, "Would you like to try and find out?" cocking her head a fraction of an inch while she smiled pleasantly at him.

"Uh.. well that is.. um.. yes." Shard stammers out, even if he had wished it, he never would have thought a doe would be so open in such a proposal. "Your nice and pretty. We'd make nice and pretty kids together." At least, Shard hopes. He has no clue if personality is inherited. At the least their children will be good looking.

Rebirth giggled, swishing her feathered tail behind her whimsically. Quickly nipping Shard's ear, she tugged him along. "Shall we go then?" she asked, a more private area in her mind's eye.
