The winter had been long and harsh, but now the snow had melted in the spring time warmth and rains, plants were blooming all around, prey beasts were returning steadily and life seemed perfect. Though the winter months had been long there had been plenty to keep them busy. Most importantly during that time Pegasus and her siblings had grown from their youthful teen bodies into their larger and stronger adult frames. Soon they would each be required to complete their adulthood quest and if all went well they would also find their spirit companion.
Pegasus had always been curious as to what her spirit companion could be, and she had spent most of her time at the shrine with her grandfather learning as much as she could about the spirits. However Pegasus was hoping to find some sign of her spirit companion before preforming her quest, and that was her plan today. Oh she knew that these types of things could not be forced, but she also doubted that her spirit companion would show itself while she lay within her den. So rising with the sun Pegasus crawled forth from her den, giving her muscles a stretch she looked out across the land wondering what direction she should travel in.

Antares had been sleeping in the shade of a nearby tree when his sisters movements woke him, lifting his head he gave a sleepy yawn and watched as his sibling looked this way and that as thought deciding where to head. Curious Antares pulled himself into a sit and scratched behind an ear before trotting towards her. "Going somewhere?" He asked her "Do you want some company?"
Antares was fairly close with his siblings - but he hadn't made it a point to spend quality time with all of them until lately, perhaps it was the thought of their adult quests which had him so uneasy..what if one of his siblings wandered away from the pack and did not return? He was sure it had happened before and while he would never ever admit to being unsure of something out loud he did in fact worry over it internally.

Turning her head to look upon her brother Pegasus smiled lightly. "I didn't have a particular destination in mind, but you're welcome to come along if you wish." It would be nice to spend a bit more time with her brother, as he often spend a lot of time hunting and doing other activities while she whittled her days away at the shrine. She partially wondered if he was feeling nervous or excited about their upcoming quests. Pegasus was certainly feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. More than anything else she was curious to find out what her spirit companion would be, hence the decision to go exploring today.
Padding a bit closer to Antares Pegasus glanced off to the trees again. "I was just wondering what could be found if I went searching." She commented with a shrug of her shoulders, hoping he would understand what she was meaning. Returning her eyes to her brother she gave him another smile. "Well come on then, we can't find much sitting around here." Turning Pegasus began to pad off but made sure Antares was following her.

Antares nodded slightly in acknowledgement of her permission to tag along - likely he would have talked her into letting him regardless but it was much easier when she just said yes right off the bat like this. "Ah I thought perhaps you were weighing your choices" He remarked "What with the way you were peering in all directions" Though her explanation worked just as well. And when she spoke again understanding dawned on the brown wolf "Ah yes, I understand what you mean..although you know they say you often don't find that until your on your quest" He reminded her as they padded off into the trees"
"I suppose theres no harm in searching though" He amended not wanting to hurt his sisters feelings or make her think he thought her idea silly. "Have you ever thought about what yours might be?"

"I was weighing my choices, but they all seemed equally good." She explained with a nod of her head. Pegasus had felt no pull or desire to go in a certain direction so she had just randomly picked one. One could never know exactly how, when or where they would find their spirit companion. She looked over at Antares giving him a look that said I know that. Pegasus knew well that most were found during their adult quest not before, but sometime they did get discovered earlier. Spirits could be fickle so one could never be too certain how exactly it would happen.
"It's possible to find it before, though not guaranteed." She pointed out as they walked among the trees. "I'm not sure, I've thought about it quite a bit but to be honest I have no idea what it could possibly be." Could it be a plant like father or something else? Would it be something large or small? "What about you?"

Antares hid a smile after his sisters look - of course she had already known that, since they were pups Pegasus had spent the majority of her free time over at the shrine lapping up whatever tidbits of information she could gather from the adults there. Antares too had spent some time over at the shrine - and he certainly respected the place - but he'd always felt most at home in the woods or hunting with his brother.
"Of course" He agreed amicably, who could know - perhaps his sister would be one of the few who did find theirs early. "I've put some thought into it." He admitted "I hope it is something thats good at hunting, something clever and fierce, or cunning and stealthy" He would not be all that happy if it turned out to be a plant..or a tree or some other gentle thing.

Somehow she didn't find it surprising at all that Antares hoped that whatever his spirit companion turned out to be that it would be good at hunting. He really did love hunting. She herself wasn't all that great with it, but knew it was a necessary part at keeping the pack healthy as well as the prey beasts as well. Hunting helped to maintain a balance between predator and prey and also ensured that their prey never overwhelmed the lands thus striping them of all the plants. She hunted when the pack needed her to but otherwise preferred the serenity of the shrine.
"I'll be happy with whatever I end up with." She told him with a nod but did understand his desire to have a certain type of companion. "Perhaps you will get a bear, they aren't entirely stealthy but they are excellent hunters. Or a lynx, they would be a good asset to the hunt party." Just because she wasn't a hunter herself didn't mean she was clueless when it came to knowing what hunts required. Sometimes they required the size and strength of a bear, other times they requires the silence and agility of a lynx.

Antares nodded agreeably when she suggested a bear or a Lynx - either would be a good choice as far as he was concerned. "Or perhaps an eagle - have you even watched them swoop down to snatch rabbits from the meadows? The rabbits never even know they are coming" He told her in an animated, excitable fashion. If she hadn't ever watched the eagles he would make sure to take her some morning so that she could see - it really was something worth seeing at least once in your life as far as he was concerned.
"So you have no preference at all?" He prodded her - surely she must have some sort of idea about what she would like, Knowing his sister as he did he had always thought that she would end up with something relatively peaceful and quiet.

"Yes eagle are quite the skilled hunters, though they are limited to smaller prey. I'm not sure how they would help the pack take down a deer or moose." Perhaps there was some why for it to help, cause a distraction to the animal that would allow it to fall victim to the hunters, but for the most part they were mostly small game hunters. Of course small game was helpful as well during times when the large herds were not so readily available.
A grin grew across her maw as Antares spoke again. Oh he knew her too well, of course she had a slight preference when it came to her spirit companion but when it came down to it she would be happy with whatever she was given. "Well...I certainly would be opposed to it being an owl." She admitted about a few moments of silence. Pegasus had always loved owls, the night time residents of the forest. They represented wisdom, yet they also held a certain amount of strength and beauty to them. "But if I am meant to get something else that is fine as well." She would never question the spirits decision on this as that would show that she didn't respect them nor appreciate the gift.

"I bet they could track them faster then we could" Antares pointed out - not about to be dissuaded from his idea about the eagles and when Pegasus finally answered his original question and admitted that she thought an owl would be a nice companion he was immediately caught up in how awesome it would be if they both wound up with bird spirit companions."An owl would suit you!" He agreed "And if you got and owl and I got an eagle we'd sorta match, which would be neat!"
Padding along his sister he glanced up to see where their steps had taken them so far - as they hadn't been hurrying they weren't to far away from the main dens and Antares thought he recalled the area, pricking his ear he paused and then motioned for his sister to follow him "I think we're pretty close to a a place I saw baby rabbits the other day" He told his sister "You want to go look...not to hunt...just to look, they're kind of cute when they're small" He added hastily less she think he was suggesting they go and eat some babies or something.

Nodding she agree, yes eagles would probably help tracking down the herds faster. See she knew they would be helpful somehow she just hadn't thought of that since she wasn't the best hunter out there. Pegasus let out a soft laugh. It would be pretty neat if they did get those exact companions. And while not perfectly matching they would have something in common beyond their blood, perhaps both getting birds would give her more of a chance to bond with Antares whenever she pulled herself away from the shrine. "You really think it would suit me?" Honestly she couldn't argue with that statement, which was precisely why she did somewhat hope for an owl to become her spirit companion.
"Baby bunnies?" Her voice showed a definite interest in seeing them. "But we shouldn't get too close, the parents might abandon them if they smell wolf nearby." That would be sad to have caused a small young animal to be left alone because its parent could smell a predator in the area. No, she wouldn't let that happen. They would look at them from a distance and then leave them in peace. "Which way?"

"Of course they suit you" Antares told her sincerely "They're very smart birds and generally really quiet, they don't act until they know exactly whats going on - that sounds quite a bit like you" He explained as he turned into the woods a bit off the pathway "Just over this way a bit" He told her, nodding his head slightly in agreement.
'No we'll look at them from the top of a bluff, they won't be able to see us and the parents don't go up the steep hill so they won't catch our scents" He explained. He himself had stopped to peek at them when he discovered the area on one of his patrols and wasn't sure why he hadn't told his sister earlier - it was just the sort of thing she was interested in - to be honest it had slipped his mind until he looked up and found himself in the same area again. Climbing up a hill he flattened himself to the ground as he got closer to the top, slowly edging forward until he could look over the edge and down the other side where he was pretty sure the rabbit family lived.

Pegasus couldn't help but smile widely as her brother compared her to an owl. Yes, she did possess those qualities, but had never really had them pointed out before. Perhaps he knew more about thing than she had first thought. Not having spent a lot of time with Antares she had simply assumed that he hunted and knew mostly about what was related to it, and not about other things. Boy was she wrong and perhaps, now that she thought about it, she spent a bit too much time at the shrine if she didn't even know her own brother that well. Who's to know what else she didn't know about her other siblings. Well Pegasus would make sure to spend time with each of them to learn what she had been missing all along.
Following Antares off the path and then up the hill Pegasus lowered herself down beside him and peered over the edge. At first she saw nothing but grass and a few flowers. But then after a few moments of watching she saw movement in the grass and soon several small rabbit could be seen. Oh they were so small and absolutely the most adorable things she had ever seen. Watching them play and jump around Pegasus smiled widely, her tail softly wagging behind her. "They are so cute!" She exclaimed to her brother in a soft whisper not wanting to scare the rabbit below.

"When they're that little the are" Antares agreed - when they got older he didn't think they were nearly as cute, no when they were older he mostly only thought about them as tasty meals, but babies were different and he was rather pleased with himself for showing Pegasus who looked rather enraptured with the small creatures. He watched with his sister in silence for quite a while - in fact he was rather surprised when he looked up and noticed that it was starting to get dark - apparently watching the antics of the small rabbits was a good way to pass the time.
"It's getting late" He told his sister before backing slowly away from the bluffs edge "We should be getting back before mother and father start to wonder where we've gotten of to"

She couldn't help but agree that yes when they are this young they are cute. Of course she also thought they were pretty cute as adults as well, but there was something about baby animals that made them seem even more so. Pegasus could have never imagined that so much time had passed since they first arrived to look at the bunnies so that when Antares said it was getting late she glanced at the darkening sky. Wow, they must had been here for hours.
"You're right." Throwing one last look down at the rabbit, who were starting to retreat into their burrow for the night Pegasus crept back away from the edge and then stood. Today had been a good day and she hadn't even been to the shrine. She of course would stop by there before calling it a night but for right now she and Antares headed back to the dens so that their parents wouldn't worry about their whereabouts.
