Ian made his way down the street to the bus stop from the coffee shop. This was his first time doing so since he had been accosted by the woman with the wooden stave who had soundly thrashed him; as a result, he kept to the main streets. No shortcut tonight for sure. No shortcuts for a while.
He also still had his arm up in a sling. Ian was down to taking his painkillers only before bed (before he would inevitably roll uncomfortably onto his shoulder in his sleep anyway; while the over-the-counter meds he was taking during the day allowed him to think, at least, he was still plagued by the ache of whatever the doctors said had happened to the joint.
Fortunately, he had another shoulder for his messenger bag. Unfortunately, that one got tired after taking the long way around to the bus stop, when the red-haired boy had so many books to tote around. Just his luck that he had had to miss school right as the teachers were piling on assignments for the end of the year. Pausing under a street lamp, Ian took off his messenger bag for a moment and tilted his head to one side, then the other, and enjoyed the relief of tension as his neck cracked.
At least he had a good ten or fifteen minutes to make the bus. He could rest here.

Hug-bell had been out a little too long. She told her mom she was taking the bus from the Library, she promised she'd be home as soon as she could. The ten year old was now patrolling the streets, trying to be careful and mindful of whoever she ran into.
Pausing when she saw a civilian with his arm in a sling. "It's dangerous to be out here alone." She said, as she came up on him, her tiny heels making a click sound. Obviously the child was a pot calling the kettle black; but she was worried when she saw the sling. "You could get hurt worse you know."
She was staying out of the light for now, hopefully just out of sight of the teenager. Thinking he'd probably just brush off a kid.
((I typo'd x-x; ))

Ian glanced back as he heard footsteps coming down the sidewalk, but relaxed when he saw that it was just a little girl. Or someone who did not look to be very tall, anyway; the figure stayed partly hidden outside of the bright light from the street lamp. It really was not too terribly late out, but it still seemed strange that someone her age would be out here by herself. Trying not to look like the weight of the bag bothered him, the red-haired boy lifted his messenger bag up to his shoulder and turned to face her.
"It's dangerous to be anywhere in town, really," he told her with a small shrug, after taking a moment to decide how, exactly, to respond. Ian fixed his glasses with his injured hand, since the sling kept it somewhat close to his face anyway, and tried to get a better look at just who was talking to him. Was she hiding on purpose? Planning to beat him up again?
"I can't really hide indoors all the time, though," Ian added, edging warily backwards a little. "No one can afford to. There are superheroes out there somewhere, but I have to just try to make do without them for the time being." He 'could get hurt worse'? Was that a threat? At least he was on a main route this time; someone might be more likely to respond to his screaming if he needed to do that again.

Hug-bell watched curiously as the boy seemed to be nervous. She shook her head, "Well yeah it is, at least this late."
She watched him before coming out into the light. A small teddy bear hooded figure dressed very much like a senshi, "You should at least keep a buddy with you."
She added, "Of course you can't, and yes we are." She smiled softly swinging her arms slowly. "Why are you out with an injured arm."

Ian did not really have terribly much personal experience from which to draw what he thought senshi looked like. There were the occasional images or drawing, and descriptions on television, but he really had not met one before. The red-haired boy was just fairly certain that the woman who had messed him up with her wooden stave was not a senshi.
He was not really expecting a young girl to be dressed in a uniform that was, at best, a really nice costume. Trying not to gape, Ian processed her responses. "I usually study by myself," he stammered awkwardly. "I just had to get out of the house because I spent a couple solid days there except for the doctor trips, and it was starting to drive me crazy." A pause as he glanced over her outfit again. "... Wait, 'we'? You are one of the superheroes?"
... Ian was wholly unsure how to react. Well. He had met some of the senshi in dreams, but that hardly counted. He had not seen any of them since then. And none of them had looked this young anyway.

The child's butter yellow eyes watched him curiously as he stammered. "Well you can study by yourself but find a buddy that'll at least wait for you and walk home with you." She said after a second with a soft nod. "Some of the Negaverse agents will try to do more than hurt you."
She sighed before giggling, at his question. "Of course silly! I'm one of them." She was beaming, "Maybe I can walk you where you need to go."
She paused, "I'm Chibi Super Hug-Bell by the way."

"Good to know," Ian replied absently, still wondering what a child was doing warning him. "I'll uh, try to make a friend, I guess." He chewed his lip. He was used to being on his own for the most part, but she did make an obvious point.
"Well," he went on, "I'm just going down to the bus stop two blocks down. There'll be other people waiting there, though, for the bus. I don't know if you ... like to avoid groups of people?" They must, if this was only the first time he had met one of the superheroes. Ian laughed weakly. "If you want to walk me down, though, then that's fine. We can be buddies." Maybe he could accompany her.
"Nice to meet you, ah, Chibi Super Hug-Bell." Ian smiled sheepishly and shrugged. "I'm Ian. I'd offer to shake your hand, but my right one is sort of occupied." He wiggled the fingers of his presently-useless arm.

Hug-bell smiled and nodded, "Friends are a good thing to have."
She paused tilting her head looking towards the two blocks. "I can walk you most of the way!" She said with a nod, "I can't go all the way 'cause there's people that believe we're terrorists. I wouldn't want them to be scared of me."
She giggled, "That's okay, I know how that is." She gave a nod as she bounced over beside of him. "It's nice to meet you too Ian."

This little girl certainly seemed up on all the latest news about the skirted superheroes around town, as well. The boy was still not fully sure how he should regard her, though, since she was like, half his age, but had vastly more magic powers. Well, since one magic power was more than Ian had. He suppressed the urge to offer to walk her home, too.
"Oh, I hope you don't know how this is," he replied, turning his head to the side and jutting out his chin for a moment to indicate his injured shoulder. "Got it uh, getting beaten up by a lady with a stick." As soon as the words left his mouth, Ian hoped she would not offer to chase the woman down for him or anything like that. But on the other hand, if it was the superheroes' job ...
This was all so weird. Maybe his pain medication was just causing hallucinations or something. He kept glancing down at her as he walked towards the bus stop. Like she might disappear at any moment.

Hug-bell seemed to think for a little before pausing. "Hm... maybe I don't know how that is, but I know what it's like to be hurt by one of them." She paused and held her hand out for him to see the scar. "Someone made this one a black uniform with big bows, that had like green trim and one eye missing; reallyyy mad..."
She trailed off. "So yeah, buddies are a good thing to have. Specially in case you run into one of them. Some of the negaverse is okay, there's others that are a little.... iffy."
She tilted her head, "I could probably talk to her if I ran into the lady. Ask her not to be such a bully." The child grinned, "Sometimes it works."

Ian eyed her scar, brows drawing together to offer a look of sympathy. and he nodded as she gave the description. "Black uniform with bows, and one eye?" He dearly hoped he would remember that.
And speaking of remembering, "This lady wore brown," he told the girl slowly, struggling to recall himself. It had been dark. And, well, his mind had been on other things. "I think she had like a big coat or something. And short hair." Beyond that, Ian's memory could not come up with anything more specific. Other than the stick, but he had mentioned that already.
"She talked really nicely, but beat me up. Like, I was doing her a favor by letting her thrash me." At the very least, Chibi Super Hug-Bell might know to avoid her, too. "I ... I don't think it would work to try to talk to this one." A pause, then he added, "Please don't try to talk to her if you see her. Be careful." That, the red-haired boy would have told anyone, regardless of how old.

Hug-bell nodded, "Yes." The child gave a pause, "I think... he's the only one with an eye patch."
She paused thinking, the child shook her head, "I don't remember running into one like that." She shifted on her feet thinking, "Some of them don't understand they're being mean. The one that attacked me thought he'd do himself a favor by getting rid of me before I got older."
The child shook her head, "I think they just need someone to show they care. Human's can't 'cause they drain energy or take your starseed." She paused and smiled, "But we're here to protect those that can't protect themselves." The child looked up at him with her butter yellow eyes. "Like I'm doing now, even though... as far I can tell there's nothing dangerous around." She looked around them to make sure.

Ian's steps slowed and he nodded again, taking in all of this information. The sheer number of battles and monsters and superheroes in skirts mentioned on television had pretty much proven to even the deepest skeptic in Destiny City that there was something going on in town, but it was still kind of blowing Ian's mind to actually have one of them tell him straight up. He felt like everyone should know this. Or he at least wished he had known more sooner.
"I... I think I had my energy drained once," he told her hesitantly, wondering if it made him sound lame to admit it. "The lady did something after she beat me up, and I felt really tired when I woke up in the hospital." Ian chewed his lip a moment. "What's a 'star seed', though? If it gets taken, is that what makes you go into a coma or whatever?"
He was not sure he was fond of the idea of being unable to protect himself, though. Getting stuffed into a locker at school was one thing, but people were dying here in Destiny City. Or at the very least, getting into loads of trouble, Ian thought ruefully, glancing down at his injured arm.
"How do you ... get to be a superhero? Or a bad guy, I guess?" Might be best to know how to avoid the latter.

Hug-bell hummed as she walked occasionally jumping over cracks. "That's what it does." She nodded her head, "I've only seen it once but the energy turns into something that looks sorta like a marble or a pearl."
She paused, "It's your soul." She pointed at her heart, "The best I know it's here. I haven't ever seen one though. I know they do it and that basically... the coma I suppose."
She paused, "Well... the cats know if you're a superhero. I don't know how, they just sort of wake you up. I don't know about the bad guys..." She seemed to think, "I never asked. Next time I see Scheelite I'll ask him." She gave a nod.

Ian felt a chill run through him. The bad guys could take away people's souls? He was never really quite sure whether or not to believe if people actually had souls, but ... it was not comforting to think that his could be taken away if he really did have one.
The part about cats sounded just crazy enough to be true, though. "Just any cat?" His family had one, and so Ian was familiar with that weird sense of the animal knowing something he did not, but the red-haired boy had always dismissed that as just one of the many skills of a cat. He did not have the arrogance to presume that there was anything in any way special about himself, though; if he was lucky, maybe he would find out from a cat if he could do anything cool.
"Who is Scheelite, though?" Ian then inquired, pausing to look back at the girl.
