Topic. Comments? Questions? And don't forget the simple, "I'm/I'm not Interested"
Maplestory RP: RPers play as Humans, but are able to gain magical power through a, "Job Advancement". They can channel this magic through anything, a sword, a bow, a dagger, an axe, or nothing at all and use their magic alone to attack. Monsters run rampant in the world, and as each is killed a portion of their life force is siphoned into the killer, adding onto his/her magic powers. In this world. In the RP's world, getting these magical powers is more a rite of passage than anything else, and they're most often used to defend the scattered towns, however RPers would travel the world, defeating titanically powerful creatures eventually culminating in a showdown with the Black Mage, the world's evil tyrant sealed away millennia earlier, and regaining strength for his revival.
For those familiar with the game: Maplestory without any quantifying numbers, and with a real plot and goal.
Spyrone Link RP (This one is original.)
The world of Spyronia is odd in that each night, billions of entities of unknown origin seize control of various areas of land, and bend their contents to their will, most often the landscape. An area once a field of wheat rippling in the wind could be a lake 24 hours later. Growing in popularity recently is a new take on an old legend of something called the, "Spyrone Link", they see it as a god, and worship it. In truth, none really know what the Link is, it could be an object, a god as they say, a genie, some lost spirit, or it may not be real at all. Belief in it is almost universal however, because the chaotic nature of Spyronia means that the Spyronians are a dying race, and it's the only thing, myth or not, that could possibly remedy their situation. RPers would be free to do whatever, however at least one group would be searching for the Link. Given that, I'd assume that most would either join them, do the same thing seperately, or attempt to hinder their progress. Characters can be anything, the entity that has control over an area also determines what any Spyronian born within it's territory is, neko, ghost, werewolf, giant anthropomorphic cactus, whatever you want.
Fate's Reciprocate (Also original)
Centuries before our current time, there were those who acted as a policing force above all others, known in their time as the, "Chosen". Each a warrior wizard, and each partnered with a dragon. One, having an obscenely large amount of magical power, felt it was his destiny to rule over the Chosen. He expressed these desires, but was denied. He, Strath Ordin, was unlike other typical, "bad guys", in that he instead chose a careful, gradual takeover of the Chosen, and therein, the world. In his unusually large amount of power, he made himself immortal to all but wounds of the flesh, and outlived all the others. With the metaphorical seat open, he took the metaphorical throne. The Chosen however were fairly well known in the world at the time, and the normal Humans refused to live under him. Since Strath wasn't truly immortal, and was vulnerable against such large numbers, he went into hiding. Current day, a new generation of, "Chosen", have been... Chosen, I guess, but unlike last time, Strath is so near to taking power bureaucratically that nothing can interfere, and he's taking to the offensive.
RPers would be fighting off Strath, his subjugates, and whatever other enemies anyone can come up with too. Each Human character has a dragon partner, and both have access to a particular type of magic of their choosing (upon creating the character)

Fate's Reciprocate- Interested, I'm more likely join this one. Than any of the others.
Spyrone Link RP- Mildly interested, though it sounds like. A watered down variation of my own Role-play. Only, land is being altered instead of constant battles. I really don't want to join another quest Role-play. I really do enjoy these. Unfortunately, they NEVER actually reach the goal that was intended. Several people just go off in there own directions. The thread creator either abandons the Role-play. Leaving no Gm and therefore no chance of an interesting Role-play. Or, the Gm remains in the Role-play. Though, stops on the continuation of the main quest. Allowing everyone to remain scattered.
Maplestory RP- I don't particularly like this concept. Starting at no ability then gaining gradual magic has too many problems. Those that have been in the Role-play for longer would be stronger. Then, you have the problem of people. Completely ignoring the power levels all together. You have the potential case. Where the Role-play will be moving too slowly. So, no one can gain any additional power. Resulting in the Role-play dieing. From people leaving. It's just too set in gaining power to hold interest.

I'm not really a fan never ending RPs either, I try to keep an attainable goal in mind at all times when I'm making RPs so I'd like to think that won't be too terribly much of a problem with Spyrone Link... But still, most, "quest", RPs do seem to sorta get scattered like that, which could be a problem. I've done a short test run of this one, and things did seem to be going along pretty smoothly though. ... Upon rereading my summary, I realize I left something out though, people can RP as anything, dragons, vampires, even giant hamsters if they want. The entity that has control over an area also determines what any Spyronian in the area is born as. I'm curious as to what your RP is though, I've only ever seen maybe a single RP that's similar to this one, and that was years ago.
And yes... Leaving newer RPs behind in the Maplestory RP could be an issue, something I haven't quite worked out how to fix yet. The best thing that comes to mind is just to get a bunch of people to reserve characters, then everyone to start at the same time, but that present other problems. The only other way to fix it that comes to mind is that those newer to the RP would gain power significantly more quickly, so they could catch up to everyone else. I suppose if anyone has any ideas on how that could be fixed, I'd really appreciate it if you'd share smile
What exactly about Fate's Reciprocate do you think you'd like?

I know how to fix the problem is people scattering. The thing is, most Role-plays aren't able to adapt enough to pull it off.
Wrong way to pull this off- Impose on the other people in the Role-play. That they must follow x path or be kicked out of the Role-play. Wrong way to pull this off- Threaten or ask people through Out of Character posts. To keep to the set plot.
Right way to pull this off- Have a great dynamic that chases all those into a Role-play into a particular area. Like, a large tidal wave that forces them to run into a particular area in the land for safety. Right way to pull this off- Allow those that are scattered to continue with there side quests. Just make sure there is always at least one. Participating in the main quest. If they get too scattered. Its time to use a Tidal Wave or something. biggrin
The Role-play that I've made that is similar. I wrote part of it entitled Land of the Gods in this guild. The full Role-play isn't anywhere written down unfortunately. It was actually a L.A.R.P. Role-play. Which means live action role play. I basically acted the characters out in my basement. With my brother at one point. We had a universe, characters and all sorts of stuff developed. I have used that Role-play here on Gaia a few times. Though, those are scattered all over the place. I couldn't even tell you where I last used that plot.
The Maplestory Role-play isn't fixable if you use the set-up you have here. My experience tells me. That people won't just "catch up" with others. Most want to be roughly the same strength as everyone else in the Role-play. Instead, allow for people to flexibly craft there characters and abilities. Just make sure certain things are excluded from possible character designs.
One last note, I'm not a fan of the Maplestory game and I have never played the game. I heard about the game over half a decade ago. I even thought about playing it at one point. Though, I didn't care for the style of game-play.
I quite recently played a game by that company called Dungeon Fighters Online. Never again will I ever play a single game made by that company. Getting a warning message that I am cheating. Then, getting disconnected randomly and not being able to log back in. I never used cheats in my online gaming. I've been Online Gaming since 1993.

I didn't see this question in your previous post before. So, I am answering it now. Quote: What exactly about Fate's Reciprocate do you think you'd like? Everything about the Role-play is awesome. The villain being Odin. biggrin The fact that we can have a pet dragon AND magical powers. The main Villain is interesting and the fact that there is one solid villain doesn't hurt things either. There could in the dynamic of those Opposed or Loyal to Odin. You said he has political power. So, I would assume he has followers. Plus, several troops at various parts of the world. You could have every organized town. Occupied by these loyal servants. You could have a rank system. Like the Military for these soldiers. There could be those. That take control of a particular branch of Odins forces. Then uses them against him in a Rebellion. You could even have an interesting dynamic like Russel Cartwright from Adventurequest. Russeul Cartwright was the highest general of The Galin. A world devouring god that had sent his minions to the planet as a test. What Russuel did was he used those forces he had command over. To full-fill his own desires. Oddly enough, this Russuel Cartwright and those like him. Were the exact reason The Galin destroyed planets in the first place. He was deceptive and cruel. He waged war for greed. He had no sense of horror. Nor was his word worth the dirt on the ground.

I've actually done a short run of Fate's Reciprocate too, and it had all of that, he had an army, minions, all with a perfectly reasonable explanation. In fact, the RP would still be running, but some mod went on a rampage and deleted half of the guild's RP's for no reason, that one included. Something funny about his name actually, I came up with his name totally randomly when I decided to add him into the RP, just something I thought sounded cool. That was also when I was into the meanings of names, and for fun just put it into a translator, "Massacre Ordinance", totally perfect.
The last thing I can think of for the Maplestory RP is one that I personally think isn't really all that fair that I've seen another RP use-- that when new people join they start at the same power level as everyone else.
I'll check out your RP, and yeah, that cheating thing is a glitch that happens with their servers. You're never really banned though, unless you were actually cheating of course. It's happened to me at least a dozen times, you just have to reconnect. Except for the first time it happened, it kept happening all day, but the next day it was fine.
