In the center of a forest, deep inside an underwater cave, a small and colorful Modifox stirred sleepily. The scents of new grass and flowers floated down to her through the small mole tunnels that reached all the way to the surface, consistently replenishing the cave's supply of oxygen. Borealis uncurled herself and stretched, yawning widely and flicking her ears and tail to get the blood flowing. Her stomach growled loudly, echoing slightly around her. "Mhhhm, guess it's time for a few fish...." she said to herself. Borealis padded the few short feet to the edge of the platform that formed her bed. With one last flick of her tail, she gave a little hop and dove into cool water that protected, and occasionally blocked, the way into her home.
The water now surrounding her body woke Borealis immediately, clearing her senses and ruffling her fur. She then swam downwards, then back up past the stalactite that formed her cave home. Glad again for the warm weather, she popped her head above the surface, sucking in fully the scents on the fresh air that greeted her. She let herself float for a few moments before diving back down, searching for some salmon....or perhaps some trout? Regardless, just a few minutes later she had caught herself two or three fish of decent size and was settled down on the bank of her large pond to enjoy her catch.

Takashi's mind was drifting about as aimlessly as his body. Up until now he'd been with his sister Peri, though as she got more and more independant she seemed to want him around less and less. It wasn't that she didn't still love him, as she assured him. It was just she wanted to live her own life and thought Takashi should do the same.
Live his own life?
The thing was, Takashi wasn't really sure how. He'd hardly spoken his entire life, and tended to confine conversations to no more than three sentences with five words or less in each one. He was a very big and brawny male, and in looks alone most got the first impression that he was wild and possibly a fighter.
The opposite was more likely. Takashi was so placid and laid-back it was almost scary. His "wild" and "fighter" moments only came when someone tried to threaten his loved ones. In his huge family, Takashi actually felt sorry for anyone trying to threaten them. His mom alone had a temper that could scare your fur off if you brought it up. His sisters ran along the same lines, and his brothers were all varying degrees of competant. If anything his father was the weakest link in the family, but considering all his mate and mother were scary as all get out no one messed with him much.
So, really, Takashi had just been drifting around this entire time. Maybe Peri was right and he did need to get a life, but how?
He'd just finished his musing when he came to the edge of a lake. A pause for a drink would be nice. As he bent over to lap at the water the sound of splashing reached his ears. He tilted his head so he could still drink and actually look over the lake's surface. Hmmm, looked like a very colorful vixen was having a morning swim.((I apologize for the novel. He needs his personality worked out though >.< Just a warning, he really doesn't talk a whole bunch.))

Just as Borealis was about to take a bite out of her fresh catch, she got the feeling that she was being watched. Oh deities, don't let me have stumbled into another tribe's land again she thought to herself. She had done so once before and had been chased out of her home.
Very slowly, Borealis lifted her head and peered around, making sure to look for any abnormalities in the area. Though it could just be a very inquisitive Sparrow watching her, she didn't want to take any chances. She had just started to relax when she spotted a mass of red and black fur along the shoreline. Very slowly, she stood up and called out a shaky "Hello?" If it was a tribe's scout or hunter, at least she could try and be friendly towards them.
[[And I apologize for my lack of novels ^^; His lack of talk will be great =3 Especially if they become friends, Borealis will be able to fill the silence with ease xD]]

Aiken was being followed.
It had all started with this random vixen. Aiken never traveled much, she never felt the need to. However when a flood had erupted over her old home town she had decided to leave her home. Now, she was in a place she was unaccustomed to. Then, she had met this little vixen.
The little vixen was on the ground, sleeping silently until Aiken had stepped on a branch. The vixen had jerked upwards, locked eyes on her, and let out a loud squeal, exclaiming that Aiken was beautiful, and that she would start following her starting from that very day.
She had kept that promise.
So here Aiken was. Traveling alongside a river, tail limp as always. Yet the little vixen was behind her, rattling questions she'd never answer. Aiken did not show her feelings, more like, she couldn't. The words would never leave her throat. They'd always stick together and block her throat. She was asking about her feelings, her emotions, and Aiken could not do it.
She could not.
"So, what's your favorite food?" Abby chirped out, grinning at the pretty vixen before her. She was following the vixen whose name she did not know because she was beautiful. Abby loved to surround herself with beautiful people, because she herself was not. She loved to watch beautiful words escape beautiful lips, and beautiful voices touch beautiful hearts.
Abby smiled at the girl when she didn't get an answer. Maybe the girl was mute? Her tail wagged happily, hopping over to the female and tugging on her headphones.
"How'd you get so pretty, huh?"

Takashi just stared at the vixen in the water. It wasn't a rude stare either, more like something vacant. The kind you got on people who were essentially very nice, but preferred to watch stuff rather than get overly involved. You could just tell, looking at him, that he wasn't a man of words, or outbursts of emotion.
After a couple moments he remembered that Peri said it was usually polite to answer questions when asked, even if he only said one or two words. Really he preferred being the nonverbal communicator, and with a family as rowdy as his it hadn't been a problem until now.
"Hello," he said, and then stopped and continued with his stare, even though his ears flicked back at the sound of voices behind him.

Borealis shifted nervously as she waited for the other fox's answer. She could tell he was looking in her direction, but couldn't quite make out the expression on his face. It seemed like his body was there, but his mind had traveled miles away...
She actually twitched a bit when he called back. She hadn't been expecting him to answer after the minute's silence, but thought she'd better wait for a response. He certainly didn't sound hostile and wasn't making any aggressive movements.
Just before she was about to stand up to move nearer, she heard more voices coming from behind the male fox. Maybe more of his tribe? I can't tell from here if he has a marking she thought. Staying in her crouched position, she called out again. "Am I intruding on Tribe-claimed territory? I do not wish to be a pest or start any fights, I am just looking to continue living at this lake."

Tribe? Clan? Takashi took a moment to think about this stuff. He wasn't a part of a tribe, and he hadn't encountered a tribe while journeying here. So that must mean the female wasn't talking to him. Simple enough.
So Takashi simply plopped his butt down on the ground and waited for the next move from either the female in the water or the females approaching from behind.

Now she was just plain confused. The female voices.....no wait, just one? Regardless, she could hear their footsteps coming, though they sounded fainter, like they had slowed or changed direction. The male she had begun speaking to had ignored her last question and sat watching her silently.
Goodness....I never would have guessed that there would be even one fox around here. Perhaps I should get a closer look at that male.... If he wouldn't answer her question, she would just have to get closer to see if he had a clan marking on him. Getting to him without seeming hostile would be a bit of a challenge though.
Borealis didn't usually meet many foxes, so it took her a moment to realize that perhaps a peace offering of fish would be sufficient reason to approach the strange male. Backing up to avoid turning her back, Borealis picked up her catch and slowly approached the male. She stopped several feet away and laid down her catch.
"May....may I be so bold as to ask for your name? I am called Borealis, and I have been living i-" She hesitated. Would it really be wise to reveal the exact location of her home? "Near this lake for several moons now."

It was something of a misfortune that Takashi always wore a slightly bored, kinda emotionless expression. Combined with his silence and the fact that he was just so physcially big, it probably made him look rude or snobbish. He looked down at the fish the female had brought him. Really he wasn't hungry. Some of that confusion might have shown in his expression, but it smoothed back over to normal as he looked back up at the vixen.
There was a breath of silence. Two. Finally, after the third breath, "Takashi." And that was all. That might have also seemed a little rude, but he was sitting in such a relaxed, non-threatening pose that the female shouldn't take offense. Shouldn't, but one never knew. Takashi was never one for pouring his heart out though, so usually direct questions were the only way to get the most basic of answers from him...

Borealis gave a shaky, relieved smile. "Well Takashi, would you be interested in some of these fish I have caught?" She was glad to have gotten to know his name. He seemed to have difficulty speaking freely. Perhaps he'd had an...accident somewhere in his past? This just made Borealis want to get to know him more and see if he may be in need of a friend.
"Where do you come from? I haven't seen you around here before, though really I haven't been here too long myself. There aren't many others that come through this way, are there?" Borealis had a bad habit of filling any long silence with chatter, no matter how much or little she knew the fox to whom she was speaking. She had a feeling this may come in handy however, seeing as Takashi seemed so disinclined to comment on many things.

Takashi tilted his head, listening while Borealis chattered. His expression stayed the same, bored kind of neutral through all of it. Where did he come from? Huh. Well his parents hadn't really been settled anywhere in particular when he was born, and afterwards he'd followed Peri around until she told him it was time he began living his own life.
So, "Not sure," he said. It pretty much fit as an answer to all her questions, so perhaps it was the best thing he could have come up with.

Borealis cocked her head in confusion for a moment. How had he not known where he came from? He'd been there before he came here....She must have phrased her question wrong. Ah well she thought to herself with a shrug, he's here now and I guess that's what really matters.
Well then, she was just going to have to be more specific with any other questions she directed at him. Borealis opened her mouth to start another barrage of questions, but before she even made a sound a thought occurred to her. Maybe I'm bothering him! She thought, blushing. That would be terrible! It's hard to be friend with someone who annoys you, and she never did like being annoying....
She cleared her throat and started again. "I'm not...bothering you, am I? I don't want to be an annoyance, it's just that I haven't had any foxes to speak with for quite a while now and I just love talking and socializing, so all this chatter comes out at once". She was about to continue on when she realized that would be compounding the problem if Takashi DID find her chatter annoying....

((Juuuust to make sure you know, Takashi's already mated to someone else. This would be a friend thing.))
Takashi blinked. "It's fine," he said simply. He'd grown up with chatterbug siblings, and actually preferred when others did the talking. A listener was always in greater demand than a talker anyway. If Borealis had really been alone as long as she claimed, and it seemed she had been, she was probably full of chatter.

Borealis did a happy little wiggle dance. Takashi didn't mind her! "Well then!" She started, "Where were you before you came here? I mean, do you have any family? If you do, why did you leave? Do you need a friend? I love friends! You can visit me any time you want! I'll always be around here, I hardly leave". She smiled and danced a little bit more. It would be amazing if she could have a friend around, someone who she could talk to and just simply be around.
((I figured, I just felt that she needed a friend ^^))

Takashi blinked at all the questions Borealis threw at him, trying to figure out how to answer. Cause as far as he knew, those were the kinds of things that might require speaking. Well, not all of it. He nodded in affirmation to the question of whether he had family or not, but the others required speak.
"Everywhere," he said for the first questions and, "Following Peri," for the second. Everywhere meaning he'd just been wandering with no specific living place. And he'd mostly done that cause that's what Peri did, and he wanted to make sure his big sister was safe on her own. Of course now she wanted to really be on her own, so that left Takashi just...wandering.
