Vincent had been looking for days. He knew Elisabetta wouldn't like living with his parents (and he wasn't sure he approved of that either, what with Kaleb acting as strangely as he had been lately). They needed a home. A nice home with a yard for their soon coming addition to the family. A yard for a dog or two, a picket fence, a garden, window boxes--a perfect first home.

So when his mother had handed him the keys to an old cottage she'd purchased years ago, he jumped at the chance. She had called it a fixer upper, and not being certain what that meant, the young adult had waited for his fiancee before going to see it. Now they were parked in front of the small cottage--and the things Thali had forgotten to mention were made clear.

The windows were broken. The grass was overgrown, it looked like the garden hadn't been tended to in years.

Elisabetta was excited. This was going to be her first permanent home. No more moving because they didn't have space, or someone died. When Vincent had told her about it, she eagerly hopped into his car.

Now she was rethinking that decision.

"Well, it's...got potential?" With one hand on her ever expanding stomach, Elisabetta exited the car to stand closer to the cottage. Potential? More like the potential to break the bank! She bit her lip, curiosity dragging her closer even as her brain told her to stop. Broken windows meant there would probably be glass around, and right now, that wasn't the safest place for her to be.

That didn't stop her from going, though. With her longer tentacle wrapped around her stomach, Lissy started to trudge through the yard. "Coming, babe?"

Vincent wasn't quite sure about this. The house looked like a place bums stayed the night in. In any case, he didn't want Lissy going in there alone. He quickly followed, wrapping an arm around her waist. "I can fix the windows," he reassured her. "Mom wouldn't give it to me if there wasn't something good about it." Whatever that something was, he hoped they found it soon. If they didn't, he'd leave the house to rot until it was condemed. Well, it didn't look like that'd be too long, anyway.

He stuck the key in, and allowed the door to swing open. He expected the place to be just as terrible--if not more so, inside. He was surprised then, by the wall paper and painted ceilings. Furniture, it seemed, had been covered by white sheets. "I suppose it's nice," he muttered. "Not exactly what I had in mind, though." It wasn't perfect, but it would be alright... Hopefully.

The house reminded her of the half-way homes crack addicts lived in. She could only hope one wouldn't pop up out of the window, and shank her. Elisabetta wrapped her own arm around Vincent's waist, resting her thumb on the waist band of his pants. "Oh yes," she said sarcastically. "It's all falling apart, guess what? It has a jacuzzi!" Lissy shook her head. "Sorry - hormones."

She didn't know what to expect when he opened the door, but it certainly wasn't this. Elisabetta separate from her fiancee to walk into the cottage, running her fingertips along the back of a sheet covered chair. A puff of dust ballooned around her, causing her to stumble back, her hand over her mouth. "Jeez!" She coughed. "When did the last owner move out? The 50's?"

"Well, mom says it's been hers for some thirty years," Vincent said with a shrug. "So it's old--but we can fix it up," he followed her, taking her hand. "The kitchen looks alright," he said, pointing to his left. "Nice sunlight, here," he added, looking up. "Needs a bit of cleaning, but I can handle that. Mom said there were five bedrooms, two bathrooms. So uh... I suppose we have our work cut out for us, huh?" Not that he would allow his fiancee to work in her current condition.

He slowly removed the sheet off a chair, hoping to spread as little dust as possible. "You're right," he muttered. "The fifties, or earlier. Looks sturdy, though. You sit down, Lissy. I'll start cleaning."

Elisabetta poked her head into the kitchen for just a second before they were on the move again. The longer she was in the older cottage, the more she possibilities she could see. In her mind's eye, that area over there would be great for a coat rack, and this hallway would look gorgeous with a dark crimson rug. "It's that big?" She gaped. It didn't look like it held that many rooms from the outside. Maybe they were smaller? "Nothing a little elbow grease can't cure."

Bouncing back from foot to foot, Elisabetta watched Vincent's movements until it dawned on her what he was planning to do. She scrunched up her eyebrows, not moving from where she stood. "No way. I'm not an invalid, I can still help. Besides, this is too much work for you to do on your own."

"But Lissy, the baby..." Vincent wasn't sure he wanted his fiancee to work as hard as the cottage seemed to be insisting. It would be a nice place--once it was finished. "I think the upstairs bedrooms are small," he added. "It didn't look quite so big as I thought it would be. Mom made it out to be a really nice place... I guess she hasn't seen it in years."

He frowned slightly, still concerned. What if Lissy got hurt while she helped him clean the place? What if some druggie lived here? What if a mouse showed up and bit her? What if a bat flew out of one of the closets? Vincent wrapped a protective arm around Lissy.

"Alright. We'll fix this place up--together."

"The baby will be fine. Stop worrying so much." She waved it off, one hand moving her to stomach when she felt something kick. Or what what she assumed was a kick. Who knew what that kid was doing in there. Elisabetta moved forward, into her baby daddy's embrace. "Just like everything else, from now on."

And she really wanted it to be that way. She had fears, fears that Vinny would find out that she had cheated on him in her wilder years, well...she was still wild, but still. Fears that he would get tired of her, or something would happen to her baby. However, she was sure that so long as he stayed by her side, everything would turn out alright in the end. For all three of them.

"I can't help it, you...the baby--" he paused and smiled. "You're right." Everything would be fine. They had a house, they were together, they were starting a family. As long as Vincent found a well paying job (and he was working on that, that was his most important goal, there). "Everything'll be fine. I thought we could start on the nursery tomorrow, love... Maybe yellow or green paint?" He wasn't sure she knew what the baby would be--had she been to the doctor's yet?

"Lissy... do you think we should go to the facility? Check that everything's alright with you and the baby? Sometime...soon?"

"How about we make three walls green, and one yellow? Not too bright, though. I don't want to give the poor little thing a seizure." She smiled with a little laugh. She could already picture it now. A rocking chair by the window, a little crib, closet full of tiny clothing, and a shelf full of books to keep her little one's brain growing. Learning was one passion she had never taken to an extreme, but she hoped that her child would.

"Hrm?" She snapped back into reality, turning her face back up to look at Vincent. "Well, I've already got an appointment for next week, so maybe you can come to the next one?" Elisabetta frowned, and placed a hand on her stomach, giving a little wince. "It's an active little thing, that much I know. And I'm sorry, I should have told you about the appointment earlier. Just with everything going on...." She shrugged. A girl couldn't be expected to remember everything.
