Apache had been running for a week. His hooves were tired and his mane was in knots. His rider had been killed in the recent battle with the invading eastern folk... Which meant Apache was out on his own. However, the Indians tended to take a fallen man's horses and divide them among the tribe. Apache, that was his Indian name, didn't want any other rider then Little Falcon.
So he had run. His war paint was bright still, for some reason, and that meant he had to keep moving. And now he had made it. To where exactly he had no clue... but if the sun shining was any clue... this was his new home.

At long last he had managed to finally slip away from that blasted mare. She had been cooing and fawning over him for far too long and while Nameless was grateful for her gentle ways it made Carnivore sick to his stomach. With his freedom finally granted the black yearling could now start to forge his own way in life, start a new path that would one to lead to the destruction of his father. Oh yes, Carnivore would prove to that wretched stallion that he is worthy and that none can stand in his way. He would also one day revisit that mare who had raised him and give her a proper thanking as well.
Having recently filled his belly with meat from an abandoned wolf kill Carnivore was once again on the move. This would be his territory for now, and here he would train, grow and prepare for the day when he would face his father and take the herd from him. Trotting along the makeshift border of his lands Carnivore spotted movement up ahead and as he got closer noticed it was a lone horse. Invader! Well he couldn't let others just walk through his territory now could he. Letting out a shrieking whinny Carnivore gallop forward to face this new found enemy.

Love stories, a war horse, an intelligent strategist, when he was on watch. The thing was... he wasn't on watch. The sun was too sunny and the blue sky was too blue. Things seemed to be too perfect.
And then, out of nowhere, a black flash was coming down the hill toward him. He heard the shriking whinny and then he was instantly on alert. He reared and turned to race toward the oncoming horse.
The idea was to meet in the middle and he would pummel the horse to a pulp.

To Carnivores pleasure and surprise the beast did not run away from his challenging cry but instead came towards it. Excellent, one who does not balk at a challenge, he thought to himself as he galloped towards the intruder. The fact that the other stallion was a great deal bigger than him did not phase Carnivore in the slightest. When they had almost met Carnivore brought his hooves to a stop and raised himself up on his hind legs, letting out another whinny and then set his cold red eyes upon the stallion as his front hooves came down upon the ground once more.
"Leave my lands or face my wrath!" He spat towards the stallion who seemed to be wearing the pelt of some creature. Carnivore would take that pelt and wear it as his prize, but first he had to deal with the stallion himself. He was large, clearly well muscled and could probably hold him own. But Carnivore was certainly not going to back down and would squash this opponent like a bug.

Love Stories, being a large and lumbering stallion, had to concentrate on stopping. He couldn't simply stop. However he did eventually come to a stop and simply raised an eyebrow.
Now, Love Stories was new to the area...just got there... but something deep inside told him that this young stallion actually didn't own this land.... He stomped his foot in challenge. Was horse adrenalin flowed through him as he called out his response.
"I claim this land now...."

Carnivores ears flicked in irritation. Wait, this stallion was actually going to challenge him for the lands. Well then a challenge he would get. Standing all tall as he could, which was still quick short compared to the larger stallion Carnivore looked the stallion in the eye. "Carnivore's lands." He stated clearly with a snort. Obviously this stallion didn't know who stood before him, any other would bow down to Carnivores superiority - or at least that's how he envisioned it in his mind. Never mind the fact that this large stallion could probably kill him in a single blow, but Nameless was the rational one, so Carnivore held his ground.
"Leave now and Carnivore spare your life!" This would be his final warning to the other stallion before his hooves would get involved. He had been itching for a fight and it looked like a fight he may very well have.

Love Scoffed. "This much land for someone as short as you?" HE reared and came down hard on his front hooves. Love stories was already calculating his plan. He would head rush, like any normal fight... however he would veer off just before to get behind the small black stallion... and then he would make his final move.
He took his final warning with a toss of his head. "Come and get me..." And with that, he was rushing the smaller stallion.

He ignored the short comment, really he would grow soon and become the large domineering stallion that his mind envisioned himself as. That would be when he would pay his father a visit, destroy the wretched stallion for good and keep his mother safe. But that was something to think on some other time, as the larger stallion began to charge forward. Carnivore pawed at the ground and then charged forward himself.
He could see it now, they would meet in a bloody collision, hooves and teeth would cut deep into that stallions flesh and in the end Carnivore would stand victorious over the stallions body. Ah yes, it would be perfect. Tossing his head as he ran forward Carnivore set his sights on the stallion, if he went for the neck it would be all over in an instant. But he liked the challenge of a fight and really it would be a shame for it to be so short. Suddenly his hoof caught on something, sending the yearling tumbling. Blasted rock! Carnivore hit the ground hard, sprawling out in front of the stallion and would have no time at all to get up before the lager male reached him. It was all over...he had failed. Closing his eyes Carnivore waited for the impending end to his life and let out a growl of annoyance.

Love stories was running. A full out war run. A charge into the heat of battle. He could feel the heat and the battle raging around him. Arrows flying... Guns shooting. He he was so excited to finally battle once again.
And then that black yearling had to go and blow it for him. He saw the black stallion fall. He kept running. The idea of trampling him flashed across his mind.
And then he changed his mind. Launching over the black he landed on the opposite side of the male he reared and landed his front hooves in front of the other male's face. "Get up!" The command came out of Love's mouth unbidden. "I won't kill a helpless horse.... " Love however could see the fire in the little one. "Lets...discuss this matter...." He backed up so the other could stand.

He could hear the hooves getting closer, almost feel the ground shake beneath him. Here it came. Oh he was dead. Dead, dead, dead, dead, DEAD. But then...nothing. No hooves crushing his body like a bug, no teeth ripping him apart. Cracking his eyes open Carnivore saw the large stallions hooves slam into the ground beside him. He snorted loudly. He was not helpless! He had merely had an unfortunate run in with a rock that had destroyed his plans of victory. Nature was always getting in the way it seemed.
None the less Carnivore did as he was told and got to his feet as the stallion stepped back. Giving his pelt a good shake to free the dirt from it Carnivore than stomped his hoof to the ground. "Carnivore need land. Need to train on land. Get strong." Oh and he would get stronger, especially since that small twist of fate a moment ago had spared his life. But what was he to do about this stallion? He couldn't let him stay on his land...could he? "You leave land to Carnivore so Carnivore can train. Train to defeat father." There he had gave his reason as to why the stallion should leave peacefully, not he just had to wait for the large male to comply. If he didn't, well then perhaps they would pick up the fight once more and then Carnivore could properly defeat him...and wear his pelt as a sign of victory! Yes, that would do nicely. Wouldn't that show everyone that he was the superior horse of these lands. He eyed the larger stallion closer now. Of course he could just take that pelt he was wearing already, that would be easier, since he wasn't entirely sure how he would skin an animal to begin with, especially once so large as he was.

Love shifted uncomfortably. He needed to train more too... He always wanted to be stronger. Nothing to beat his father or anything like this little guy did... but... he did have some fights to win. "Alright... Because I don't want to fight... we will share this land as a partnership... " He tossed his head. "I want to help you..."
He stood straight. He wasn't asking... It was either... they share... or he chased the little horse off. That was the deal he was making. He could see himself being friends with this fiery lump of horse.

The idea of partnership was somewhat lost on the young stallion. He had been on his own for most of his life and didn't exactly understand what sharing or partnership meant or was. But he didn't want to look like a fool in front of the other stallion so he looked off into the distance as thought he considering the offer. Of course it begged another question. Why did he want to help him? Only a few short moments ago he wished to fight over the land and now he wanted to help. It was all very confusing to Carnivore and he wasn't sure what to do.
Still if this stallion could help him train to become strong and in doing so would allow him to defeat his father then perhaps it would be good. But what exactly did share mean. Slowly he returned his gaze to the larger stallion. "Carnivore not understand share. But if you help Carnivore get stronger than you can stay on land with Carnivore." There, he thought that was fair. Perhaps, in the end Carnivore would get his victory over this stallion as well. Allow him to help with the training and then when Carnivore was strong enough he would make his move - for real this time.

Love stories snorted. Sure... he was allowed to stay. Nodding, he stomped a foot. "Alright... I will help you get stronger.... one day... you will be able to take on your father..."
He flicked his tail and raised his head. "My name is Apache... however... i haven't been called that in many years... I now go by Love stories..." He was bursting with energy. "Im guessing you are called Carnivore?" He glanced around. "Training starts now." He reared. "Beat me to the other end of the territory." This way... he could figure out where he called the boundary... and then he could also see how fast this boy could run... He had a feeling that would be one of his strengths...

A sneer crossed Carnivore's maw. Excellent. This stallion may just be the key to unlocking the power needed to defeat his father and take over the herd that was so obviously rightfully his by birth. His head tipped to the side as the stallion introduced himself. Apache sounded like a pretty interesting name...but...Love Stories...well Carnivore thought that was a pretty silly name. Bah who cares, as long as this stallion could train him then he didn't care what his name was.
He gave his head a bob. "Yes, I Carnivore. Nameless around here somewhere, but Nameless is weak. Ignore Nameless, only talk to Carnivore." The last thing he needed was Nameless ruining his training. At the stallions words Carnviore tossed his head. Oh this would be easy. He had been running all his life, and as much as he hated to admit it, thanks to Nameless being such a coward over everything he had developed the muscles in his legs so he could run faster than most horses his age and several who were older. He also had incredible stamina and could run for hours on end.
Carnivore pawed at the ground and then turned and took off. He had run from his father more times than he could count, had been chased out of the herd, then chased by the strange and scary black mare. He chased down prey to kill and eat. Oh yes, he was in his element while running and after only a few moments he had covered a large swath of ground and didn't look like he would slow down or tire anytime soon.

Nameless? was there another horse running about around here? He frowned. Maybe this guy really did need all the land... if he had a herd growing already.
He watched the boy tear away. Apache followed. His sturdy legs were built for stamina not speed. He wanted to see what the yearling would do when he was already better at one thing... He had trained many a war horse to fight with the best of them... And now... he would train this little black horse to be strong and cunning... plus... currently he had speed....
Love followed keeping an calculated distance... to make him keep up the hard pace he set. However, he was starting to fall slightly back.... his only thought was ....'That boy can move.'
