Rei
Vaako

Rei
It was a chilly morning and Rei made his way to the edge of a small waterhole, his presence alone more than enough to scare off a herd of wildebeest that was previously occupying the area. Realizing that the feline wanted nothing more than a few laps of the cool liquid, some dared to return and drink with the appropriate caution, keeping a safe distance from the orange lion.
Rei paid them no mind, not because he wasn’t hungry but because he was still sore and moody after his encounter with Sabia or as he referred to her in his thoughts, “that freaky mad red lioness”.

Vaako
Vaako wasn’t in a particular good mood either. He’d dreamt about a completely random lioness that he’d never seen before and as the dream suddenly turned into a most vivid nightmare, the blue-lion had woken up with a startled jump. Of course, unlike many other times when he’d found himself alone, this particular morning his older brother seemed to have been watching him and that was more than enough to annoy the young lion. It was bad enough that he had to endure these strange dreams and visions, it was immensely worse when Riddiq saw him at his weakest.

Rei
The other male’s coat wasn’t particularly bright and Rei almost missed Vaako’s slow approach. In fact, to the orange lion, it seemed as if Vaako had suddenly popped out from behind a tree and he froze on the spot as he watched the other lion move closer to his location. A big male, perhaps not as big as himself but after the encounter with crazy lioness, Rei was not interested in underestimating anyone else’s strength or intentions.
“Hello there.” He said loudly enough for the other to hear when he realized that his presence hadn’t been noticed yet.

Vaako
The blue-eyed lion chastised himself for not noticing the other male sooner. It was obviously his fault for taking a terribly belated notice of a big fellow with such a bright colored pelt. He was in no mood to stop and chat but there was one question he always had to ask.
“Hello.” He greeted the other lion with little enthusiasm and decided to go straight to the point. “You’re a rogue, right? Have you seen a dark brown lioness with blue eyes? She has a symbol like this on her forehead.” The lion’s chin touched his shoulder mark.

Rei
Rei could tell the other lion wasn’t particularly happy either and he cast a wary look at the blue-eyed male. A lioness? Oh dear, was he the brother of a girl he’d met before…? Wait, dark brown? The orange lion couldn’t remember many girls that fit that description much less any that had a symbol on their foreheads? At least not a symbol like the one this lion had.
“Yes, I’m a rogue.” He said cautiously, not at all pleased with the possibility that someone might actually be coming after him as well. Gods knew he’d be frolicking around enough to offend a girl’s relatives. “And no, that doesn’t sound familiar.”

Vaako
“Are you sure?” Vaako asked looking a little suspicious – though not nearly as much as he truly felt – regarding the orange lion’s attitude. Was he being secretive or just cautious? It was nearly impossible to tell. “You paused a little there.”
If one was paying attention, it would be easy to notice how Vaako suddenly appeared to be a little taller, how his coat seemed to bristle along his back, how his lips trembled a couple of times or his gaze had turned even colder.

Rei
“Yes, I’m quite sure.” Rei said rather brusquely, completely ignoring all the warning signs – as he usually did. “I’ve met many girls, and none had a symbol like that.”
He was annoyed and it showed. Things weren’t exactly going as he’d planned. Not this encounter in particular but his life in general. He’d left the pridelands to look for adventure, new places, new faces… but all he could think of was Mzuza and how much he’d enjoyed the time he’d spent with her. He’d made a mistake, he already knew that much but the encounter with Sabia had been the last drop.

Vaako
“It’s just not any girl, it’s my sister we’re talking about.” Vaako growled angrily, feeling he wasn’t getting enough attention from the orange lion and still suspicious that Rei might be hiding something. He’d made it sound as if he was some kind of player, leaving a trail of broken hearts in his path – that’s how he heard it, at least, and he wasn’t very happy about it. He hated guys like that.
So he stood in Rei’s path, just a few inches from the bigger lion and repeated his previous question. “Are you sure?”

Rei
“I already answered that. Back off.” Not very happy with the close proximity of the other lion’s head to his own, Rei gave the blue-eyed male a light shove, trying to force his way through. The lion was being pushy and rude and Rei couldn’t help but wonder if maybe – just maybe – his sister wasn’t on the run from her short-tempered brother.
The sun was still low on the horizon and rising lowly. The orange lion felt he still had a long way to go until he found some decent-sized prey (and even then it would require a great deal of effort and a bit of luck to catch something). He couldn’t deny that he was a little hungry.

Vaako
It all happened very quickly. One minute Rei was shoving him and the next Vaako – who was used to a lot worse from his huge brother – had already pushed Rei back at first and then all the way to the ground on instinct alone. He snarled angrily, taking the little shove as the “first blow” of a confrontation that had been suddenly escalated into a full blown fight. He didn’t say anything and he wasn’t thinking much either, merely reacting to the physical contact in a much more violent way then what would’ve been expected had his mood been just a little better.

Rei
The orange lion hissed in return and snarled as he suddenly found himself with his back against the ground even though he did his best to prevent it. It would’ve hurt even if he wasn’t bruised already from his previous encounter with the red maniac. He tried to push the younger lion away with his back paws but kept his claws sheathed because he didn’t really want to hurt the other male but mostly, he was pretty sure that action would only serve as an incentive for the blue-eyed lion to fight even harder.
“Get off of me, you…!” he spat angrily stopping short of cursing.

Vaako
Even though the adrenaline was running strong in his veins, hearing the purple-eyed lion speak still managed to calm him down a little. He leaned forward, burying his head on the dense mane of the other lion until he found Rei’s throat, grabbing it between his teeth though not very strongly.
“I only asked a simple question.” He said slowly between his teeth, his annoyed expression concealed by the long brown hairs of Rei’s mane. “Why the hell did you push me?”

Rei
Rei had been in pretty foul mood before this encounter and being pushed to the ground with the weight of the other lion on him and now feeling that pressure on his throat. He hadn’t expected the attack not had he considered the possibility that a smaller lion might be able to best him in combat. In truth, Rei always believed his size would be enough to avoid a fight but clearly he had been mistaken.
“I told you already. I never saw your sister.” Rei said slowly with restrained fury, trying not to anger the lion whose teeth was neatly wrapped around his throat again.

Vaako
The blue-eyed lion hesitated for only a second but slowly released his grip and moved away from the other male. It seemed he really didn’t know anything about Jakyra so there was no point in continuing this fight.
“You should’ve just told me that in the first place.” He stated more quietly, still looking rather irritated as he turned to leave and started walked away. “And you should be more careful about who you push around.”

Rei
“You were the one who didn’t listen.” Rei said in return, his injured pride not enough to make continue the fight. The other lion was leaving and Rei wasn’t going to stop him.
He turned as well and started walking away from the blue-eyed lion and his mood, bad as it had been before, was infinitely fouler.
