The time after Operation Rota had bled Ares dry of what little patience she had left. Transforming into Ares and roaming the streets of Destiny City had been the one constant thing she'd had since Nehelenia died and took the only gateway to their old world with her. She lived for the nights spent pounding the pavement in search of youma and Negas. There was a death count in her head, and Ares wasn't there yet. She wanted to fill the streets with the bodies of her enemies. She wanted to do the work that Nehelenia had, she thought, intended. Ares had a tendency of taking a kernel of an idea and running with it to the ends of the earth. Without Aphrodite and Nehelenia to rein her back, the Eternal Senshi of Smoke continued to spiral off toward the edge of reason.
Every night that week, Ares had tried to patrol. Each time it ended the same. She'd spend maybe an hour or two in the streets, but the moment she met a Nega, they would use their communicator to summon help. A captain would appear, or a general -- or, worse, Tanzanite herself. Running from battle had never been Ares' default mode, and the more it happened, the angrier she got. And the angrier she got, the less reasonable she became.
So far, she had managed to snuff out three youma that night, but it wasn't enough. Nothing was ever enough. A small part of Ares believed that she could build a family in the White Moon. She thought that killing enough Negas would make her miss Nehelenia less. She thought that she could make this strange place feel like her home. But nothing was right, not anymore.
Turning a corner, Eternal Sailor Ares kept to the shadows, eyes pricked on the sprawling street ahead of her.

Captain Hematite wasn't really supposed to be out here tonight. At least, not this late. The city was ******** dead at this time of night and it made draining energy a chore. He'd only expected to chill with Delphine for a few hours, but one thing led to another and soon he'd been reunited with his brother and it had turned into kind of an all afternoon and all evening thing. And that was one of those strange cosmic happenings he wasn't going to interrupt for the Negaverse's weekly ******** energy quota. He'd fill his on the way home, like it was on some kind of arcane grocery list. Actually, Kaia probably did ask him to pick something up for her tonight. So, a couple of orbs of energy and a carton of eggs... it was so late already that he was more worried about finding eggs and what would happen if he didn't.
And then he noticed it. Loose energy, and not the friendly kind. It radiated pretty powerfully, too powerfully to be some newly-empowered senshi. Before he had a chance to assess things though, the source rounded the corner.
"Aw, ********," he mumbled, starting to take some steps backwards. Were those a**-wings? Those were totally a**-wings. Black a**-wings. This was the psycho senshi he'd been warned about, wasn't it? Not worth taking chances here. He'd also been warned what to do about her. His free hand dove into his pocket to retrieve his communicator, coming up with the familiar crystal.
