Kathryn was pacing back and forth in her bedroom, which had the blinds drawn tight and the lights off. It was the middle of the day, so it most definitely wasn't pitch black in her room, but it wasn't exactly the most inviting place at that moment either. She kicked a stray soda can that happened to be in the way of her pacing. "Stupid ******** can..." she muttered to herself. "You wouldn't get kicked if you weren't in my way..." she trailed off, her voice growing silent. When she paced in front of her bed, she suddenly slid down to sit on her very dirty floor. She had been living in darkness and filth for weeks. She refused to come out of her apartment for any purpose besides mandatory patrols for the Blood Moon Court. She wouldn't clean. She hasn't spoken to her parents, or her Court- she didn't know how to face either of them. She didn't know how to face reality. She didn't know how to face herself.
Kat closed her eyes and rested her head back against the bed. She sighed loudly and brought her knees to her chest. Tallulah would be here any minute, and she knew that. She also knew very well that she was going kick Kat's a** for letting what is now their place look like this. She stood up and walked out into their living room, staring at the mess in front of her. At least the spare bedroom was kept empty and clean, right? She half-smiled to herself and slumped onto the couch, leaning forward so her elbows were on her knees and her forehead was resting in the palms of her hands. The front door was left unlocked and she had mentioned to her cousin earlier that she was welcome to let herself in.

Tallulah kicked the door ungracefully open, and turned to pull her duffle bag in before it slammed shut. "Hello? Kat?" she called over her shoulder as she heaved the bag inside. That done, she gave the door another kick and turned to face the living room.
It had definitely not been this much of a mess when she'd been by a few weeks ago - now the apartment looked like some kind of tornado had swept through. "Hey, um, Kat?" she asked, climbing over the litter to stand at the end of the couch. She surveyed her cousin's slumping form, then reached out and gave her a tentative shoulder-shake.
"...You okay?" she asked, after a bit of hesitation. She was sort of dreading the answer. A messy apartment with a depressed cousin crouched in the middle of it was definitely not Tallulah Cowden's definition of okay.

"Huh?" Kat muttered as her shoulder was shaken. She shook her head slightly, as if coming out of a daze and looked up at her cousin with tired, blood-shot eyes. She half-smiled up at her and brushed her hair away from her face.
"Uh.... Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay." She sat back against the couch and stared at the ground for a few moments, her brow furrowed.
"Actually no. To be honest, I'm not. I'm freaking out, Tal. I haven't slept in weeks. I feel like I haven't left the apartment, the idea of eating makes me sick. I'm not okay, Tallulah. Not at all." Tears welled in her eyes as she finally admitted out loud that she was most definitely not right.
"I... I think I have to tell you something," Kat murmured quietly to her cousin. "But you have to promise me something." She looked up and met Tallulah's eyes, tears running down her cheeks. "You can't hate me. Or tell anyone. Promise?"

Tallulah cocked her head to one side and climbed over the arm of the couch. She sat on it and looked pensively down at her cousin. This sounded serious, but then very little had the actual ability to phase Tallulah and the likelihood of whatever Kat had to say actually having its presumed gravity was low.
But, for seriousness's sake, Tallulah decided to assume the worse: that her cousin was a mass murderer. "Ah, okay," she said softly, her face a mix of confusion and concern. For family's sake, she hoped this wasn't the case - she figured it would take a lot to make her hate her cousin, but if Kat turned into Kaatialaite, all bets were off.
Was your Henshin pen where you could reach it? Yes? Good.
Tallulah leaned in. "Kat?" she asked softly. "What's wrong? Maybe I can help."

Little did Tallulah know, Kat practically was a mass murderer, only she was playing for the supposed 'good' side. Kat closed her eyes and rested her head against the soft squishy couch cushion.
"You know those terrorists you told me about when I moved here...?" she peeked one eye open at her cousin. "I'm one of them."
She started chewing nervously at her bottom lip. "And I've done a lot of bad things, Tal..." her eyes opened as she stared at Tallulah. "I've tortured people. I don't know what to do. I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't have told you that but I don't have anyone else besides my Captain and the rest of my team and I just didn't know who else to go to."
Kat had no idea that the words tortured and Captain may set off very very loud alarms in Tallulah's head.

The case against Kat being Kaatialaite, or some similarly-named fellon, was not looking good. Tallulah sank her head into her hands, although she tried to keep one eye on her cousin. A professed Negaverser - even a repentant one - was not someone you wanted to stop paying attention to.
"I warned you," she groaned, doing her best to not sound Holier-than-Thou. Or, at least, she'd tried to. She was having trouble remembering - she'd told Kat to stay out of it, hadn't she? "So, what, you thought joining The Negaverse would be a good way to make friends in a new city?"
Because, that was what they were talking about, right? Because that was what it sounded like they were talking about. And Tallulah didn't like the sound of it one bit.

"What the ******** are you talking about, Tallulah? I didn't join the Negaverse!" She stood in front of her cousin now, a very very confused look on her face. "Have you lost your ******** mind?" Her voice was several decibels higher pitched than usual.
She started pacing back and forth, her thoughts running a million miles a minute. Then she stopped in front of Tallulah and crossed her arms over her chest. "Wait. Civilians know that they're called the Negaverse?" Her right eyebrow raised as she gave Tallulah a questioning look. "Why do you know so much?"
Suddenly this conversation went from Kathryn confessing her deepest darkest secret to her cousin, to questioning her about what the hell she knew.
"Whatever. It doesn't matter. Look, I'm not in the Negaverse, you goof." She whipped out her henshin pen and muttered a quick "Leto power, make-up!" And suddenly she wasn't Kathryn anymore- Before Tallulah stood Sailor Leto, Senshi of Camoflage, and she had an extremely uneasy look on her face as she prepared herself for the worst reaction ever.

Well. This certainly changed things. Tallulah was notably surprised by Leto's sudden transformation, which was saying something because very little surprised her lately. "Captain." she said, in a way that made it clear she was mulling the word over. "Torture."
This was not something that well-behaved Senshi did. But Leto was wearing a white bodice. Someone had pulled off something big behind her back, and Europa wanted the details.
Her henshin pen was already on quick draw. All that remained was for Tallulah to flick it between her fingers and utter "Europa Eternal, Make up!" and the cousins were once more on equal ground. (Well, roughly.)
Where Tallulah did her best to put a damper on Holier-Than-Thou, however, Europa had no problems with pulling rank and looking reproachful. "Who, exactly, have you been running with? Because they've been misbehaving."

"Holy s**t you're a Senshi" were the only words that came out of her mouth as her cousin transformed before her eyes. And she had butt-wings.
"Holy s**t you're an Eternal Senshi." Mind. Officially. Blown.
"Tal... Er, Europa, was it? Look, your fancy pancy wings are awesome 'n' all, but there's no need to play mommy here. I'm fully aware of our so-called 'misbehaving', and I don't take orders from anyone but Ares, Eternal Senshi or not."
She placed her hands on her hips as she looked her cousin up and down. "Your skirt is short," she said, trying to change the subject as she realized she mentioned Ares' name. She frowned at the other girl who was in a much less sensible get up than her own.

Europa frowned and looked down at her thighs in frustration. "It's not a skirt," she groaned, and tugged on the tulle in demonstration. "It's ruffles, like on that bathing suit you had when we were kids."
Not that that was an improvement, because she was now comparing her decidedly grown-up fuku to pre-adolescent swimwear. She gestured to her cousin's uniform. "Watch it, it used to be shorts. You keep making fun of me and you'll wind up the same way."
Fuku Karma. How many other girl senshi did she know that wore shorts? Not many. Weird coincidence.
Europa crossed her arms across her chest. "You don't seem so torn up about your lot of bad things when we're both standing here dressed up as pretty-shorted warriors."
She was surrendering the title. Hers were more bloomers now, anyways.

The serious business look on Kat's face disappeared and was completely replaced by laughter and a smile- two things she knew nothing of in the last few weeks. Leto looked down at her own Fuku and then back at Europa.
"I dunno... Somehow I doubt that my shorts will turn into some toddler bathing suit." She grinned at her cousin and took a seat on the arm of the couch, her legs crossing and resting on the cushions in front of her. Pretty-shorted warriors. The words repeated in her head, and she decided she most definitely liked that term!
"I am torn up..." she looked down at the ground, remembering why she had transformed tonight to begin with. "Tal... Look at this place, it's a mess. I'm a mess," she confessed.
With a sigh, she asked, "Have you ever heard of the Blood Moon Court?"

"I dunno," shrugged Europa, motioning once more to her frills. "How are you to know this isn't next fall's hottest trend?" (Tallulah Cowden had never been "on trend" in her life. Why start now?)
She sighed and gave her cousin a sympathetic smile. "No, you're right, they'll probably stay shorts." All things considered, this wasn't such a bad thing. Much more functional. She'd always felt bad for girls who had to fight in skirts. The crotch of a leotard always seemed so much more scandalous when your whole costume was designed around not showing it than when it was naturally on display.
"The mess... I can do something about," she said, after giving the clutter a moment's consideration. "The Blood Moon Court... I've heard of them, but I don't know much about them. Not for lack of trying, they're just..."
She flopped back onto the couch beside Kat. "Very hush-hush." She narrowed her eyes. "Why. What about them?"

"The Blood Moon Court is the team that I'm a part of. I'm a Cadet with a few other scouts, and there are two ranks above me. Anyway... Not important. The important part is that we uh.. We've done a lot of things that I'm not necessarily proud of. Things that as Kathryn, I wouldn't have done."
Leto's voice was quiet as she stared at the ground while she spoke. She was cringing as the memories of Tanzanite's screams and sobs when a Lieutenant was killed before her eyes came flooding back into her head. "It was awful, Tal. I just... I don't even know if I care. That's what's eating away at me. Not the fact that we did what we did. But I sure as ******** didn't stop anyone doing anything either."
She looked up at her cousin to see her reaction. "I feel like they deserved every second of what we did to them and I know that's wrong- but I also know our mission is to destroy them. I don't know. Kathryn would never ever have done this. I don't feel like myself anymore. It's as if Leto has taken over and my entire life is this." She looked down at her fuku and sighed.

A lifetime and a half ago, the young Sailor Europa had lain in bed while her maid tried to comfort her, whispering, “These are the things you give up when you come here. But think, miss, about all the things you gain!” Ever since overhearing those words that day on her moon, the present Sailor Europa had used them as a rallying cry. Think about all the things you gain!
Except... what exactly were they gaining from all this? Europa sighed through her teeth. "I was supposed to go to Dartmouth in the fall," she said. It was only an Ivy league. Only her dream school. Except... She gestured to her bodice. "Except then this. All of this." All of this, reminding her she'd been silly to even apply anywhere out of town.
With another sigh, she reached a sympathetic arm around her cousin's shoulders. "I don't know where Europa ends and Tallulah begins," she admitted. "What you did..."
She bit her lip and stared off into the middle distance, deep in thought. "We're in a war," she said, after a while. "The normal ethics... they don't apply here. Most soldiers get boot camp, or indoctrination, but the cats just toss us in and we have to make our own propaganda."
She could sort of guess where this was going - Kat was a senshi, so there were only a few places it could. And Europa had heard rumors. The negaverse had taken enough senshi and civilian lives - she'd heard talk about the senshi beginning to bite back. She'd never done it, personally, but it didn't sound entirely reprehensible. What were the numbers Tate had thrown around? She had them written down somewhere, they were high- for a murder spree like that, it could almost be forgiven.
"You're being kinda vague, Kat," she said lowly, "But if your team killed someone, especially negaversers - If you'd let them go, they'd have gone on to commit more murders. And that doesn't make it okay under normal circumstances, to execute someone without, you know, trial by jury - but..."
She couldn't really believe that these words were coming out of her own mouth. But the more she thought about it the more they made sense. "These are hardly normal circumstances, Kat."
They were two teenaged superheroes. What was normal? They didn't serve that here. It had been off the menu for ages. Shut down by the health inspector.
Unless this wasn't what that was about at all.

Leto listened in silence as her cousin explained her in-depth thoughts on the entire situation. She nodded slowly, sighed heavily and hugged Europa. "Thanks Tal... I actually feel a little better." She looked at her and smiled half-heartedly.
"I guess you're right. I don't think any of us... Senshi or Negaverse planned for this. Definitely not normal ******** circumstances. Not even close." She laughed a little and henshined down, so Kat was now sitting in front of Europa instead of Leto.
"Who would'a guessed we'd be superheros in short-shorts and a mini skirt?" She grinned and laughed louder now, feeling as though a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders.
"I'm glad you're one of us. Makes me feel a whole lot less alone in this. I mean, my team is great- I'd do anything for them... but they're not family. Not yet, at least."
