Article Here

You can google for several other articles about it. By May 31st Tokyo Pop will be shutting down most of it's manga branches. Apparently it's German/European branch is still going to remain open. For how long we don't know. The film and TV branches will remain open apparently.

I don't like to put it this way, but I'm happy. I've personally dealt with Tokyo Pop before attempting to obtain manga. Their customer service was a nightmare, and we were stuck on backorder for over a year. Eventually they gave us some BS about "since it took us over a year for us to send you your book, your order has been cancelled!" ...WTH!? So I've had some bad experiences with them. Also, now we have Kodansha and from what translations Tokyo Pop is known for making...I'm so happy we have a company directly settled in Japan. If anything it's proof that fans can only tolerate so much editing and cuts from the products we pay for. Of course not all manga they've done is bad, but their customer service knocks them down from that. (At least in my opinion.) We're missing a publishing company now, but I won't be missing them personally.

I never ordered from them so I wouldn't know. I do own couple manga done by tokyo pop. I'm looking forward to what Kondansha has to offer in manga wise besides Sailor V/Moon manga that is coming out this fall.

EDIT:: According to their site on series titles. Looks like they have couple manga series that were translated by TP. I hope they do Cardcaptor Sakura.

EDIT:: OH they are doing Tokyo Mew Mew that is coming this fall!

Quote:
Tokyo Mew Mew, a shojo classic, also returns in omnibus form in September. Ichigo is out on a date with her crush when her DNA is combined with a wildcat's. When four others undergo the same process, it becomes apparent that they're part of a much bigger plan. Ichigo and her friends have been chosen to become a part of the "Mew Project." Their mission: To protect the planet from aliens who are using animals to attack humans! The first Tokyo Mew Mew omnibus will contain volumes 1-2 and will cost $14.99. This edition contains a new translation.

I find it sad they shut down and it wasn't all Tokyo Pop's locations that shut down it was just the American location in CA that shut down the Tokyo Pop branches in German and Europe are still running.

Taken from Wikipedia :

North American publishing shutdownOn April 15, 2011, Tokyopop announced that it would close its Los Angeles, CA-based North American publishing operations on May 31, 2011. According to the release, Tokyopop's film and television projects, as well as European publishing operations and global rights sales, will not be closing. Stuart Levy, Tokyopop's founder, also released a personal statement reaffirming Tokyopop's role in introducing manga to the mainstream North American audience and thanking fans, creators, and employees for their dedication

Read past the first sentence next time Typhon-Chan. 3nodding I already wrote that up there, lol. That's okay, I'm sure other people will feel really bummed about it. After all, they did distribute vast amounts of manga. I guess it shows how the comic book/graphic novel market is suffering...here in the U.S.A. anyways.

Manga and toilet paper. I don't care where they come from. I'm just happy to have them when I need them. 3nodding
