User Image The morning had not gone quite as planned. It was extremely rare that Scryer had ever gotten to see any of his 'family' now. Only the spirits knew where his daughter had gone to. Than there was Seeker who was always off playing with the jungle angeni. The boy was not quite right in the head he was sure. At least he did visit now and than, with months in between, though Scryer was sure there was little luck of there ever being any grand children. Seeker was too skittish in his opinion.

He looked up toward the waning sun, already far past its most brutal position in the sky. Summer was definitely coming soon. The days were so long now The grass was growing more plentiful and the snow had already long since vacated the valley floor. Not as though Scryer cared much for what season it was. The snow was pleasant to run through and the summer was relaxing by the lake. If he didn't like the weather or climate he simply moved to a different spot until he wished to be elsewhere.

".....Where is that boy..." He sighed under his breath as he turned his head toward the jungles far beyond view.

User Image Seeker was busier than ever now that Xochi was wide again with more foals on the way. This time he had promised himself he would be there when she needed him. He had become more or less of a nanny for the angeni. Her previous birthing he had taken care of, on occasion, her two daughters when Xochi needed a break.

This time he had promised to not be away for so long, only to meet up with his father for a quick visit. She had said he was welcome to come and go as he pleased, and he wished to stay, but he did have that obligatory feeling to keep in touch with the only of his family he could find, though it was rarely.

His wings cupped the air like great ores as he speed forward, already able to see Scryer's tall form on the horizon. Likely his father was being impatient. Seeker did not feel he was too late.

"Here!" He called nervously as he approached.

*tch* "about time... playing with your jungle friends again boy?" He laughed in his own amusement. Seeker looked unappreciative of the innocent insult. "'...common now, I was only kidding." He snorted, still laughing. Seeker only turned his head and before he could utter a soft 'no' Scryer gave him a hard knock on his side with his head.

User ImageUnder the shade of a tree, a large mass of blue and black was curled up in a fawn position, the flash of bright blue between the feathery wings moving up and down in the steady rhythm of sleep. Having been up most of the night and the morning, Ni'awtu had fancied a little nap while the sun made its course across the sky. She had been in the sun when she lay down. Now she was in full shade.

And that shade was a little cold...

A shiver ran down her spine, causing the bell attached to her forelock to jingle with the sudden movements. Stirring from her sleep, the mare stretched out one front leg and raised her head. Though still half asleep, she got back to her feet quickly, shaking her long mane in an attempt to rid the sleepy feeling from her brain. A walk would fully wake her up.

So she started walking. Not going anywhere in particular. Just walking, her eyes still half closed in sleepiness. Thus she didn't notice the other two Soquili she was nearing. Her bell jingling softly with the slow movements of her legs as she closed in on one of the stallions.

Seeker puffed up at what he thought was an insult to the majestic Angeni he had chosen to live with. The feathers on his wings bristled.
"I was, they are really good to me." He tried to sound upset, but failed miserably.

Seeker wasn't one to get too upset often and when he tried to sound as such he often instead sounded 'whiny' or sad. Scryer only laughed in response.

Before Seeker could inquire anything further the soft chime of a bell rung in his ears. They docked as he reared up, nearly kicking Scryer in the face. His wings spread wide.

Scryer shook his head as he laughed. His son was a goof, a good goof but one none the less. He was well aware that he was well taken care of in the jungle and happy he had found a good place to settle in. Something he couldn't do.

"Hey! What now?" Scryer growled as he moved back and out of the way of Seeker's flailing hooves. He looked around to see something blue on the horizon coming their way.

"......would you relax? it's just another horse!" He reared up himself in hopes to gain his son's attention and calm him down. Seeker was a goof and a coward and Scryer had by now come to learn how to handle that.

The Kirin tail was hanging low, barely moving on its own as it swung back and forth like a pendulum with the steady movement of the blue mare. She was still half asleep. Not exactly one to be lazy, it always took Ni'awtu a while to fully wake up in the morning. Her head was held lower than normal, the ears sitting on top turned down against her long mane.

Or they were until the commotion in front of her reached her ears.

With a louder jingle than before, her head came up, ears swiveling around to face forward. Her eyes, previously closed in half sleep, were now opened and her, herself, was now fully awake. But not due to the sounds of talking and movement. More at the sight of the two stallions reared together.

The chiming of the little bell attached to her forelock had stopped when her head came up. The mare had stopped to watch for a few seconds, too startled by the sudden appearance of it to do much else. But now that her shock was going away, she was coming back to her senses. Whatever the reason behind this, innocent or not, she wasn't too interested in finding out. Lowering her head slightly, she turned to walk away and around the two, hoping not to be seen. She certainly didn't want to get dragged into whatever they were fighting about.

The constant jingling of the bell did little calm Seeker's nerves. He only flailed more, rearing his head up and flapping his wings like a wild goose. His pupils were so dilated by now they appeared to be two black holes in his head.

"That's a b-bad sound!" He snorted and begun to turn. That is, before Scryer landed back on the ground and got a hold of on of Seeker's wings in his mouth. "No, it's a s-soul stealer!" He protested.

Scryer only pinched the wing, not wishing to break it. Seeker was stronger than him, but he had long since learned a few tricks to keep control.
"err..." He huffed and only released his son when he had calmed. It wasn't just any soul stealer, it was a kirin. Or at leas part of the -mare- was. Yes, a female horse. And not sore on the eyes either. She reminded him of the ice caves he had seen a long while back.

"Take it easy, it's just a mare, boy." HE muttered under his breath all the while shooting the on comer side glances.
PostPosted: Sun May 22, 2011 7:33 pm

The soul stealer was keeping just as close a watch on the two stallions. She didn't trust strange horses. Least of all ones who had been reared up as they were. Or, had been. That wasn't a very accurate observation anymore. In fact, it didn't look as much like a fight as it had earlier to her previously half asleep eyes. Though one could never...

Wait...Soul Stealer? Stopping, still a good distance from the other two, Ni'awtu glanced around with barely a movement of her head, the bell only making a very quite jingle when her head turned slightly. A jingle even she could barely hear. Once confirmed there was no one else in sight, her curiosity over the situation she had stumbled on came alive. Ear turning towards them, she ducked her head just enough to flip her twisted forelock over to the other side, revealing the light purple of her eye underneath for a better look. Once on the other side, the little silver bell was once again quiet.

"Soul stealer?" she repeated, loud enough to be heard by those strong horse ears, the tip of her Kirin tail curling up in the usual fashion. "I assume you mean me, as there is no one else around. I do apologize if I bothered you." Which she obviously did, but manners were always nice, either way. "I was on my way around."

"Ow ow ow!" Seeker groaned as his wing was pulled at by his father. The trick had worked and he ceased trying to flee. Though his eyes were still wider than ever. His short hair stood on end and his feathers bristled. Scryer didn't let his watch slip much until he was certain Seeker wouldn't try and flee again.

"If-" Seeker started to try and persuade his father to run before an unfamiliar voice hit his ears. His ears docked as his head whipped around to see the blue mare. All seemed well, but unfortunate Seeker did have a good eye for detail and took quick notice on how the sun reflected differently from the mare's haunches. Scales. "-...a Kalona" he gasped under his breath to his father who like wise was staring at the mare.

"Soul- Oh, you'd have to excuse him. He has a wild imagination. Also scared as the birds." He gave Seeker a nudge. "No one's bothering anyone."

His tail flicked. He had completely ignored Seekers false warning. He had seen plenty of Kalona in his time to know this was not one. For starters her teeth didn't protrude from under her lips and her tail was perfectly normal... If not among on of the most beautiful flowing tails he had ever seen.

Well, at least she didn't seem to have much to worry about from the two strange stallions. Especially not the shorter maned one, with the way he was carrying on. All that over a little bell? Ni'awtu had never come across anyone so skittish. Her ears came forward a little in a more relaxed posture than before. Still, the situation could turn around if either proved to be more hostile than they looked.

"Very wild, I see," the bright blue mare responded, moving her purple eyes between the two. There was one thing she was sure of, anyway. They were obviously related. They were much too similar to not be. How they were, she couldn't be sure. The guess would be very close, but one never knew. It was possible for more distant relatives to look alike. Not often, but possible.

"Nonetheless, I'm still just going to go around." As if to emphasize the direction, she pointed with one white hoof away from them.

Seeker jolted a little at the nudge, but kept his eyes locked on the soul stealing threat before them. How does one guard their soul from being stolen? One would have to know a lot about souls, and that left them both in a bit of trouble. Seeker had a feeling of what they were, only not how they all worked.

His nostrils flared and his fur and feathers bristled only adding to his scaredycat appearance. Made completely awkward because of his obviously musclebound build.

He made no protest to the soul stealer's wish to move away from them. Silently he encouraged it. However, before his hopes could be raised his father did what his father was used to doing, being Scryer.

"You are more than welcome to stay with us, We don't mind a chat. Not often a pretty young mare comes along-" If seeker were not so scared he would have rolled his eyes. Oh how mom would be proud of him. "Just don't mind the boy, like I said, even the ground hogs scare him from time to time. Trying to work that outta him."

Scryer gave a deep whinny, a horse laugh. Lucky for Seeker he didn't push him or shove him this time.

Ni'awtu considered her options. It probably couldn't hurt to stop for a bit. It wasn't like she had a destination in mind. There was nowhere left to call home. Nor anywhere new she would like to call home. And what was she even traveling around for? Like a lost pup, wandered too far away from its mother. It was all she could think to do. Wander. In truth, she didn't enjoy the wandering, but she figured it was her best bet considering the situation she was in. If she stayed still, there was less of a chance to find a perm place to go. If she moved about, well...The options were definitely a lot higher.

Though, at the same time, she wished to stay in that one spot. Alone. Perhaps it was too soon after all to be moving about. It couldn't be helped. She'd drawn attention to herself regardless.

Then there was the fact she'd been up most of the night, wandering about after a few little scares by some predators. She was still tired and didn't want to keep walking.

And that other stallion. The one still obviously cowering in fear. The bright mare wasn't sure what to make of him. She was a little wary, to be honest. As most mares on their own would be in the presence of two males.

Taking a deep breath and blowing it out slowly from between her lips, Ni'awtu changed her direction towards the two. She may as well. There was always the chance it could end up a bad decision on her part. If it did, she certainly would be in trouble. There were no visible signs of other equine breeds on either. Unlike her. Anyone with a little knowledge knew the added breeds to a Soq with wings kept them nearly as grounded as one without. The mare couldn't fly as high or as fast as a pure Wind could. It gave her a headache. If the two were actually more hostile than friendly, she wouldn't even be able to take a detour through the forest. Her mane always got tangled in the branches.

Still...You got nowhere in life by avoiding everyone. Chances had to be taken.

Ni'awtu continued to study the more striped stallion through her only visible eye. The other completely hidden behind the large mob of black hair that was her forelock. Fortunately for him, this meant the bell was also on the other side of her face. "Thank you, I suppose," she responded, turning that pretty little purple eye to the one who spoke. The compliment had gone over her head, so engrossed in her decisions of earlier was she. Despite her better judgment, a little laugh was tryng to force its way from her throat. Up close, the striped one was more comical than threatening. She had to keep her eye off him for fear of being rude by laughing at him.

She still stayed a decent distance away from the two, but close enough to see little details about them and hear what they said with more ease.

"Ground hogs?" Ni'awtu repeated, not meaning to sound as dimwitted as repeating made her sound. Turning her attention back to the cowering stallion, she asked of him curiously," Are you afraid of my bell?"

Seeker kept his focus nailed to the new comer. His ears slowly docked. He looked almost like a great statue. His muscles tensed and his head and even tail remained still. Of course he wasn't going to answer her questions, or any other questions to him she may have. That's how they stole the souls! Well, part of it. The more they knew about their pray the easier it was for them.

If only his father were not so easy...

"Yup, Ground hogs. Come up from the ground so quickly it sends the boy running." Scryer laughed. He shot his statuesque son a glance than rolled his eyes. "Could be. Likely some myth he's got stuck in his head. I wouldn't concern your self with it."

He rolled his shoulder as if removing the topic with the gesture. "So what brings you around these parts? Don't see many lovely mares out and about around here. Especially not alone."

Ni'awtu was still regarding the younger stallion with a funny look on her face. It was intriguing to her. To find someone so set on being afraid of a little bell. She found she so wanted to pick his brain apart and learn the inner workings. What made this behavior tick. It was too extreme to just be normal, could it? Foals didn't just grow up to fear random things.

Either way, the other one was talking, now. While the other decided to stand like a statue. Like he were a groundhog who spotted a hawk flying overhead and was hoping to blend in with the dirt. Whatever a groundhog was exactly. It sounded small, anyway. And with 'ground' in the name, she could only assume it was small enough to live underground. Maybe some kind of rodent.

If this one wasn't going to talk, her forelock was on the wrong side. Oh, did she wish she had a Kirin horn to loop her hair around from time to time. She didn't like having one out of sight. Maybe if she backed up a little and turned more to one side. Yes, that worked better, now.

The second compliment didn't quite go over her head. But Ni'awtu choose to ignore it regardless. She felt far too timid in these lands to voice out on the uncomfortableness she felt with it.

"Nothing, really. Seeing the world, I suppose." Wasn't too far from the truth, at any rate.
