User ImageThe bright blue mare wasn't very high in the sky. Not that she could go very high, with half of her blood belonging to a Kirin. Rising any higher than where she was now-she could touch the tops of the trees-gave her a headache. With half of your DNA coming from a land dweller, it just wasn't in the cards to enjoy the whole world above the ground like pure Wind's could. Though she wanted to. Did she ever want to. To rise up and look down at the world as if one was looking at a map of the land. See the other Soquili, like ants dotting the lands. But the best she could hope for was seeing everyone the size of a small mammal.

Flapping her great wings, Ni'awtu dropped down to the ground. She felt tired. Having been wandering around for hours all day. She missed home and couldn't find anyone she was even remotely familiar with. Nor familiar landmarks. But she wasn't one to let small details get her down. She was alive. She had survived just fine on her own this entire time. She would survive on her own for as long as she had to.

Maybe it was just pointless to wish to go back.

Sighing heavily, the stripped mare stepped up to a small body of water to lower her head for a drink. Her long forelock, the bell at the end of a braid jingling, rested on top of the surface while she got her fill.

User ImageIthili was tired of going out to look for beautiful things and finding nothing. He had come to the conclusion that it would be better for him to just sit and rest. Maybe he would go back and eat some of that amazing food one of his friends gave him. It was so delicious. Those red rounds fruits were so sweet. His mouth watered thinking about them. It made him laughing thinking about his upcoming days. It would just take a bit before he would get back. The stream he found next was clear as crystal. Ithili looked into it admiring his own mirror. That beautiful coat and hair. The wonderfully brushed hair. He had spent hours using a branch he had found to make the long curled strands fall to his whim and surround that gorgeous mug he admired in the reflection. Yes, sometimes he did have hedonistic tendencies and would take time to admire himself. Though he was more into the decadent things in life and would often self-indulge. It was no wonder that he was able to keep the trim figure he had.

The stream was pleasing to his eyes so he wandered along next to it. He enjoyed watching the reflected sparkles spring off onto the leaves and plants around it. The sun always made such pretty sparkles. Someday he would love to have those. It took him only a moment to realize that there was another in the stream. His eyes traveled over her long hair to the wings on her back. The wonderfully done stripes along her body and then to the bell around her neck. Ithili wondered where she got such a treasure and wondered where he would be able to acquire one for himself. She was spactacular! "Hello there." He proudly trotted over to the lady. "I'm Ithili. A pleasure to meet you"

Ni'awtu stretched her wings as she finished her drink. The tips brushed the tops of the grass as her head straightened back up, her forelock dripping wet near the end from the water. The bell was also wet, attached to her twisted forelock and glistening in the sun. The sun equally glistened off the scales along her body. On her shoulders, back, rump, and square between her eyes. The mare turned slowly to face the newcomer. The one visible eye widened slightly in surprise.

To her eyes, the stallion was a very strange sight to see. It wasn't just the coloring around his mouth that looked like he'd dipped his whole muzzle into something pink. It was more the fins along his body. The one visible pale purple eye traveled up and down his body, lingering on the fins, before ending with the tail. Like a fish, but spiked. No fish she knew was spiked. Her mind wondered if they were sharp or rubbery. She didn't really want to find out.

Shaking her head slightly, Ni'awtu blinked her surprise away. She hadn't realized she'd been staring.

"Hello, Ithili," she responded, folding her wings back against her sides. The scales along her flank were momentarily hidden behind the bright feathers. She held her head high like her family had taught her. Always show strength and friendliness. "I am Ni'awtu. Forgive me. I have never seen one so...." What was a good word to use? "...Unique."

Ni`awtu... It took a few moments for the stallion to run the name through his mind. To him, it would be rude if he didn't pronounce it properly. Ithili agreed with the mare, he was unique and being unique made him special. The lightly colored male loved the fact that he was different. The beauty of his lightly speckled coat, the bold markings by his eye and his shoulder, the brilliantly colored fins. He was a fine specimen in his mind. Ni'awtu was unique as well. The sparkling scales caught his eye, as well as magnificent wings. His brother had wings, but they weren't like these. The multitude of stripes had him grinning. There were so many and they all made her look lively and serene at the same time.

"Don't worry. I've been stared at before." He shrugged it off but was ecstatic that she took the time to stare a little. She must be fond of beautiful and rare things as well. Or maybe she just hasn't seen many other soquili before? Ithili hoped that it the first option. He would love to show her all of his precious little trinkets he has found and the food that he has stored away. "You are rather unique yourself. I haven't come across one so beautifully colored in a long time."

Behind her, Ni'awtu's tailed flicked. Not so much in irritation, but...The compliment made her a little uncomfortable. She didn't see her stripes as beautiful. She doubted she ever would. She wondered if this stallion was maybe a little blind. Or color blind, at the least. Her coat was so bright. No one was able to miss her. She stood out too much.

"What is so pretty about my colors?" was all she could think of to ask. The question, she knew, sounded stupid. But she couldn't help it. She was curious as to what about her was so lovely to catch the attention of a stallion. She couldn't help asking. Like a little foal curious about the world around them and wanting to know how everything worked.

It didn't surprise her Ithili had been stared at before. The fins were strange on an equine. Even to one with scales on her own body. But those had always been there. She was used to it.

Despite all the bashing she gave herself, Ni'awtu did think her hair her best feature. As annoying as it was near low hanging branches and wind. When the wind was low, it was a sight. Thick waves falling past her shoulders, down past her knees.

Not that his hair wasn't pretty. It was curly. Like hers. She liked that.

Ithili walked around the mare, looking her over like he would any of his other treasures. He was hoping that she would be one of his. The exotic treasures were he most beloved treasures. The lightly colored stallion was getting tired of walking around and wanted to just relax. He didn't want to over work his muscles or tire out his beautiful coat. Being in the sun too much would cause damage as well. Maybe this female would come with him and the two could continue chatting. "Well, from my point of view, the brilliance of your coat is remarkable. The stripes add flair and cut through that brilliant bluey hue of your coat. They match with your wings and your hair and scales. When I look at your coat it's like looking into a body of water that runs into the darkest of skies. Your colors are ones I won't forget."

Ithili stood back from Ni'awtu, grinning. His eyes went back to the bell around her neck. "The silver that hangs from your neck also attracts the eye. You are a sight to behold. It matches the white stripes that are the waves of your coat." His compliments pouring from his mouth. They were honeyed words and there would be no doubt that the other would be able to tell. Whether she took them as just compliments of something else would be up to her. Ithili though did not mean them in any other fashion as just answers to her question.

The mare's ears went slightly back as the stallion went around her, following him mostly with her ears than her eyes. Listening to the sounds of his hooves on the ground. Though she wasn't fond of the attention he was giving her, Ni'awtu wasn't afraid of him. For one, her life back with her family herd had toughed her up. She was used to being the center of attention in a less than satisfactory way. At least for her. She'd no doubt Ithili wasn't exactly disliking what he was seeing, judging by the things he was saying. Unlike those from back home who detested the Kirin herd who lived close by.

And, two, she had wings. She could fly away if things got a bit out of control. His words may be meant to just be a compliment, but one never did know what to expect. Someone kind and gentle could turn around and prove you were wrong. Out of politeness, she would endure this Soq and not run out of him unless his intentions proved otherwise unsavory to the bright mare.

"I do not doubt you on that one," she replied a little awkwardly, answering his claim that he won't forget her. She was so bright, how could anyone? No smile touched her cold lips at his words, but her ears did swivel back around to face him. "Yours looks like...Snow falling," she tried to add, to take some of the uncomfortableness off herself. And throw some compliments back at him. Though that was the best she could do, she hoped it didn't take it badly. Snow falling was pretty. Very calming and relaxing. She should add that in, but she found her mouth caked shut at the thought of giving such a personal compliment.
