To the average observer they were just two young adults sitting at a table playing what looked like a rather complicated game of cards. Rikard Colby, currently Lieutenant Richterite, had given Painite a call by conventional means that day before powering up once they'd agreed on a meeting place where they should be uninterrupted. It likely would have been easier to meet powered-down, but where was the fun in that? And how would they be able to slowly siphon energy from those who'd decided to stand around and watch if they were just students? They very well wouldn't. He had smoothed his fingers over his coat, making sure everything was in place before picking up the two decks that he had set aside for this training adventure. He had tucked them into a pouch that would be easy enough to attach to his belt before taking off for Destiny City Memorial Park which was where they now sat. It was well on into the evening and the lights had come on around the table they were seated at. Several civilians were lying in various positions on the grass where they'd fallen, all slumbering peacefully, it seemed. He didn't seem to be paying much mind to them anymore, eyes far too focused on the 'army' spread out before him, occassionally drifting in amusement to the girl sitting on the other side of the table. "Your move."

Painite was not as fast a learner about the card game as she wanted to be. She had gone home after picking up the basic details from Richterite and googled to her head felt like it was going to explode. And to no avail: there were so many web pages, so many wiki entries, so many forums and pictures and lists, she had no idea where to start or if anything she had read was actually any use to the actual game.
Clearly, it was a much more complicated game than she had given it credit.
But she didn't let that get her down. She went to the arranged meeting with a grin on her face and confidence swirling in the air around her. Hey, she could fake it, right? She was an actor: that's what she did. She laughed at the very idea, imaging using improv to get her way through the game wasn't going to be as easy as she thought. That, at least, seemed to be a consistent trend.
As it turned out, she picked up a lot for her company's guidance and from simply playing the game rather than fretting and reading about it. She had her cards in hand and was eying her set up critically, like it was a vital move in a game of high stakes chess. Because there had to be such a thing, somewhere.
"Don't rush me!" She giggled, knowing what she would play already but wanting to make him sweat it out a little. So maybe she was drawing from yet another different game, poker, but she didn't think there was any harm in that.

"You call this rushing you?" He laughed, gazing on at his companion in amusement. He was more than willing to give her all the time she needed to formulate her plan, but eventually someone was going to come by and notice what was going on... And he'd at least like to see if one of the two of them was any closer to winning by the time that happened. All in all, he'd been having a good time. He had found that bit of balance between Rik and Richterite and was taking advantage of it while he could, trading off his knowledge for the game for a bit of her knowledge of the Negaverse as they played. He was still convinced that you could learn a lot about someone in the way that they played cards and this, if anything, was just more proof. "Next time I'm bringing a timer." He smirked, teasing.

"Hey! This is more chess then... some... timed game," she wasn't thinking as well as she would have liked, her mind almost entirely on her cards. There was so much whirling in her head, things she was trying to remember and her profound efforts to be cunning at a game she had only just learned, was still learning. She was inclined to take her time, at the very least. She grinned at him, though, aware that he was just elbowing her verbally.
"Anyway, if you brought a timer then I would drop you into a fight with a super senshi and time that. See how much you like it," because clearly the two were similar. This was his field of expertise, after all, while she had more experience in the Negaverse. Granted, he still had the advantage because she was brand new to the game, but it was still a similar enough situation. She finally opted to play a card, hoping to lure him into a trap by moving weaker cards into vulnerable positions and drawing him to attack.
Maybe.
Unfortunately for her, her tactics were fairly obvious. Especially when she considered that he had made her deck for her, which completely slipped her mind. He would know what cards were in there, and what she might be planning on, so the chances of her winning were even more diminished because of that. If her own unfamiliarity wasn't enough, of course.

"Now, now. The people who believe that chess itself is serious business use timers from time to time." He nodded, that bit of simple thought dissolving into amused laughter at her comparison.
"That would hardly be fair, Pain. Hardly. There's no harm here in a bit of friendly competition... But tossing me straight into a battle with one of those Supers? Armed with just my cards?" His brow quirked as he brought his hand up to his chest. "You wound me. Right to the heart." That said he let himself fall back off of the bench he'd been sitting on, the cards in his hand scattering to the ground as he lay there for a good, long moment, eyes closed and body still as he waited for a reaction.

Painite looked a bit huffed, but it was all forced and playful. She was having fun, despite the high level of concentration and the surging desire to beat him at his own game, as a newbie. How cool would that be?
"Well! You have to learn some time." She put on her best old man voice, scrunching her face and eying him critically with what, in her mind, was an ancient, wise eye. "When I was your age I fought two super senshi, in the snow. Barefoot. For fifteen miles."
When he fell, though, she looked surprised.
"Hey!" She scrabbled up and over to him, collecting his cards for him. And, of course, taking a good look at them. "Oh, I see," she hummed to herself, clearly not worried for him and his wounded heart.
She did look at him to see if he was going to continue playing dead, though.

"Fifteen miles? Really?" That was the end of his playing dead, at least partially, one eye opening so that he could peer up at her as he shifted so that he could fold his arms beneath his head, making himself comfortable amongst the other bodies strewn about for the moment. "Amazing, what you old-timers had to go through... Funny, though, I really wouldn't have thought there was all that much age between us."
He paused briefly, closing his eyes once more as he shifted, knee bending up as he crossed his other leg over it. "Then again, I'm sure most wouldn't believe there's only a year or so between Captain Scheelite and I either, but..." There was that smirk again as he let his mind drift momentarily to the blonde. "I've been trying to teach him to play too, you know..."

"In the snow," she amended, nodding her head as if speaking the absolute truth. As any old timer would be, of course. They never embellished a story just to garner some more wonder or pity and neither did she. Clearly. Because there were plenty of reasons to travel fifteen miles while fighting super senshi. In the snow. Barefoot.
She grinned at him.
"I'm glad you had a quick recovery there," she said, offering him the cards back, "I was sooooo worried."
"And I meant a metaphorical gap. You know, in experience more than age. I am not old, thank you very much, and still very much on the top of my game." She grinned at that. It was true, she was certain: she was still shooting for the moon, and was not yet ready to call herself grizzled.
Sitting next to him now, rather than on her side of the playing field where she belonged, she laughed.
"I was older than my Captain by a few years," she smiled, not seeming too fussed by this fact. She brightened when he said Scheelite was learning to play. "Is he any good?" And by that she wanted to know if she was better than him. If she could be better than someone, it would mean she could, eventually, be better than her teacher. And what student didn't strive for that?
The padawan surpassing the master.

"Mm, yes, well..." He glanced over at the girl, a slight smirk curving his lips as he pushed himself up to stand just as she sat down. He dusted himself off lightly before holding his hand out to her so that he could help her up if she chose to take the offer.
"We should probably try to get out of here before someone notices all of the bodies... Or before they start to wake up. I'd hate to have to explain this lot to anyone, as much fun as the game was."

Painite laughed as he stood up, but took his hand and got up as well. She collected the cards and offered them back to him, smiling brightly.
"You're just saying that because you couldn't win now," she chimed, shaking her head teasingly. She had mixed both their decks together, but she didn't think there was any harm in that: they were all his cards, after all.
Glancing around at the nice little group of unconscious people around them, she smiled and offered him her half of the energy orbs they had gathered.
"Here, you should take these. You'll look damn impressive, handing them all over."

"I don't know about impressive, but you should definitely hand them over." The raven-haired senshi's hands were on her hips, eyes narrowed as she glared at the two Negaverse agents and their perspective catches. She'd arrived late to the little game; late enough that there was a good chance these two had actually killed some of the civilians.
Luckily enough, the two of them were new to her; maybe they hadn't heard anything about her before... Then again, she didn't really know anything about them either. No weapons visible at the moment. No spikes in power. What rank were they? Should she really be doing this alone?
Clearly, despite the internal monologue, she was going to stand her ground.
"Excuse me?" His brow lofted slightly as he took a few of the orbs from Painite, pocketing them carefully in his subspace before turning to glance at the senshi. "I don't believe we were expecting any additional company. I'm afraid the game's already over... But if you'd like to play with us next time." He smirked, eying the senshi over in the same way that had gotten him smacked by Fayalite at least once or twice.
"I'm certain we can make arrangements... What do you say, Pain?"

Painite looked at the senshi, surprised but trying to hide the expression from her face. First impressions were everything, and the last thing she wanted to do was give the senshi the idea that she had gotten the drop on them.
Of course, Painite should have sensed the senshi coming before she suddenly appeared, but she hadn't. Or if she had, she had just put it in the back of her mind and ignored it, focusing on the game and the playing rather than her surroundings.
No one needed to know that though.
The senshi had to be pretty strong, or at least confident, if she gave up her advantage of surprise to deliver a quip. Painite's kind of senshi, clearly. She grinned, looking at her fellow Negaverse companion.
"Oh, there's no need to be so mean. If she wants to play with us, I'm sure we can find the time for her now. Extend the game a bit. Of course, we're going to have to play by different rules now."
She summoned her javelin to her hand, sharp, sea green eyes drifting back to the senshi languidly.

If she was at all concerned about the appearance of the lady's weapon she did well to keep it from showing on her face. Instead she seemed to analyze it, making a note to do what she could to avoid the pointed bits. While she'd gotten skilled enough in concealing bruises with makeup she was pretty damn sure it would be a bit more difficult to hide being impaled.
What she hadn't expected, though, was the sudden spray of cards pinging her in the face and then scattering in the air around her, impeding her vision and throwing her off as to where her enemy might have been. "s**t." Her hands came up quickly as she tried to deflect the tiny blows, none of them doing enough damage to trigger the activation of her powers.
"Look at that... Now I've gone and dropped my cards." He huffed softly, brow furrowing as he watched the senshi swat the last few fluttering Magic cards away from her, a smirk soon slipping across his lips. "Alright. Pain wins. We'll play... But I don't you're going to like it very much, Sailor."

Painite grinned when the lieutenant hit the senshi in the face with his cards. A good distraction tactic was always well liked by Painite, who considered herself the master of traps.
Pretending they had totally planned this, she used his card diversion to move herself. She focused and teleported, taking the hit to her energy and knowing it might come back to bite her in the butt if she wasn't careful, but she wanted to get the jump on the senshi.
And randomly disappearing then reappearing behind her had to be the way to do that, right?
Senshi weren't skilled enough to be able to pull off teleportation like the Negaverse could. It would always be one big bonus over them, despite not being able to do it too often, too frequently. It had certainly helped Painite out of a jam or two.
"And with that," she said in as mighty a voice as she could muster, bringing her javelin forward to slash the senshi in the back with. She was a bit slowed by teleporting, and her voice gave away how winded she was despite the effort to hide it, but she was nothing if not confident. "You lose, Senshi!"

The duo might have had her. The Captain and the Lieutenant could have very well returned to the Negaverse that night victorious... Had it not been for the Captain's voice announcing where she had teleported from.
Corvus wasn't fast enough to completely dodge the blow, but the Captain's voice had alerted her in enough time that, with the other's sluggish reactions, she could at least deflect it. She felt the point of the javelin pierce her arm, dragging across skin in a way that she should have reacted to differently than she did; that anyone else might have reacted to differently.
Corvus wasn't anyone else, though. Pushed onward by the feel of her power finally awaking, she attempted to take hold of the javelin's shaft with one hand, extending the other hand to point her palm at Richterite. "You're both going to regret that... Revenge."
The ball of dark energy barreled into his chest, sending him flying backwards into the picnic table. He groaned as his back hit the edge of the table, arching as if that would somehow lessen the impact. "God, she packs a punch..."
