The day was bright, and with that, made the small filly's eyes seem to burn. She laid in the shade though, avoiding the bright light, her eyes flickering to stare quietly from one moving object to another. She wasn't used to all this. She loved her basket, it was warm and comforting. But everything out here was good too... It was beautiful, lovely. She liked it, and it smelled pretty usually.
Bellezza's body shifted gently, her muscles twitching, before she wobbled to stand, wiggling her tail slightly. She let out a small yawn, eyes closed, ears pinning back, before she was wondering quietly from one tree to another, peering up at them, curious as to what could be up there. She blinked, watching a bird, before rearing up on her hind legs, and putting her hooves on the trunk, leaning and sniffing somewhat at a leaf that was far too out of reach.

Dhiren was laying stretched out on his side in the tall cool grass. A dark green eye was watching the grass sway in the breeze until he saw a pink figure raise up. He focused his vision on his curious sister, watching her as she investigated a leaf. He rose up a little, shaking the stuck grass from his neck and mane, still laying in the grass. He turned his head the other way and could see his mother who was attentively watching both of her children, though doing it in a way that would make one think they could get away with something but then get surprised by her sudden movements. He took his eyes off his mother and stretched as he rose to his feet. He gently folded one wing, then the other next to his body.
Grinning lopsidedly he trotted over to his curious sister and looked up at her. "Does it smell funny?"
Charlotte watched her son trot over to his sister and engage in conversation. She still couldn't believe how being a mother made one so much more aware of everything. Now, with her foals about her, she couldn't imagine wandering off on one of her hap-hazardous adventures. She smiled, they were beautiful, though she supposed she was just being a mom.

Bellezza's head shifted down, staring toward her brother, eyes curious. They flickered along his form for a second, before she wiggled her tail, and then shifted down, her body moving to wiggle a bit. She felt her ears flick up, before she nibbled a bit of grass, testing it, before wiggling her nose and looking up toward him, bangs falling once more into her eyes. "Mm? It smells almost like grass... but not." She said, her voice curious, before she glanced over to her mother.
Deciding it be best to ask her, Bellezza half ran, half wobbled over to her mother, and reared up, pawing somewhat toward the female, before she looked up, and nuzzled her mothers chest some, before taking a couple steps back, and thought of how to word it. "Mama, what is that green stuff in the trees?" She asked, looking back up toward the trees. She wasn't sure if it was grass, or if it was just other green stuff.

Evangeline sneaked towards her siblings in the shadows of a nearby berry bush, her face contorted into a mischievious grin. She was getting better at this--maybe they wouldn't even hear her this time! Her father had told her not to sneak up on them like this, that it was rude and uncalled for, and that she should act like a proper young lady. But that was no fun! She had to perform a bit of mischief at least once a day, or else she felt as if she was failing herself. She was meant to be great... perhaps at something. But being sneaky would do for now!
She was almost upon them now, watching as her sister sniffed at the trees. She had always admired her sister's soft hair. It was like the white foam in the stream... she bet that it was just as fluffy too!
Just as she was about to pounce upon her siblings, her four wings--awkward for her at this young age--caught the leaves of a nearby bush and made a loud rustling sound. She growled, yanking them forward, shouting, "Drat!" Oh well... now they knew she was here!
Dev stood a bit away, observing the new thing that he called family. There stood Charlotte, the beautiful, kind, compassionate mare that had drawn him from his sorrows, had released his guilt into thin air. He watched her with soft eyes, wandering how he ever misjudged the beauty of such a creature. When he was young... before he had changed... he would have never set eyes upon a mare so plain. But now... now he saw her for what she was: beautiful, absolutely and indescribably beautiful.
She was his star, and he was her angel. He would love her till the end of time.
And then his eyes shifted to the two young foals conversing with each other, his son Dhiren and his daughter Bellezza. He had been afraid at first, afraid that he'd never be able to be a father. But now that the baskets had opened and he was blessed with three tiny souls, he found that the role was quite natural to fall into. He only hoped that he could give his children the life he never had.
His eyes narrowed--wait! What was that shadow, in the foliage? His wings tensed to protect his family, but then a chuckle came to his throat when he noticed his other daughter, Evangeline, trying to scare her siblings. She was a troublemaker, for sure, and he tried to teach her manners. But there was something in her strong and free spirit that made him hesitant to scold her, and he instead admired her fearlessness.
He walked towards his mate, wings hanging relaxed at his sides. "Charlotte," he murmured, needing to say no more. He rubbed his nose along her neck, offering an affectionate touch.

Dhiren perked his ears up curiously as his gaze flickered to the leaf. "Does it really?" He furrowed his brow and watched her scurry to their mother before he too rose up on the tree to sniff the leaf, one of his wings were spread open to keep him balanced, though it didn't keep him from stumbling while trying to move out of the way from his other sister, Evangeline. He looked at her quizzically. "You have a twig in your hair, sister." His mouth tightened and his cheeks poofed out, trying to keep from laughing, but failing miserably as he noted more leaves and twigs and suddenly burst out laughing. "You...look..so..FUNNY!" He continued to giggle about her appearance, but finally settled down when he noticed his father now watching them too. He perked his ears up and watched him move to their mother and give her affection. Turning back to Evangeline he sighed and went over to her. "Do you want me to help get the twigs out?"
Charlotte watched Belle make her way to her, but her attention was briefly stolen by Devicus, who spoke her name softly. She turned her head to see him approach and smiled softly as he nuzzled her. "Devi-" She was cut off by the arrival of her daughter, Belle who was pawing at her for her attention. She grinned and lowered her head a bit to the filly who's markings where much like her fathers but saw her eyes starring back at her. "The green stuff in the trees?" She looked at her puzzled then at the tree and then back again. "Those are leaves. They catch the sun and rain and make a tree a great place to be under." She reached down and nuzzled the filly affectionately before jerking her head to her son who was now laughing loudly...at his other sister. She shook her head, smiling. There would never be a dull moment.

Bellezza blinked, her eyes flickering to her father, smiling. She loved her father, and her mother, but she was definitely a daddy's girl. She liked to watch and learn from him, just as much as she liked laying with her mother when he went off flying or to find something. But, now they were focused on those things in the trees. Her ears flicked, eyes looking up toward the green stuff again. She blinked for several seconds, head tilting, before looking toward her mother with a curious stare, and then back to the trees. "What are you talking about, Mama? It's grass, isn't it?" She said, rearing up slightly, before walking a small circle.
Her ears flicked again, before Bellezza craned her neck backwards to stare at her siblings. She tilted her head, watching them, before letting out a small giggle and turned her attention back to her parents, eyes locking on her father. She'd ask him. It would be the deciding factor! If they were really leaves, then both her parents would say it. So, shifting, she moved toward her father and reared up some, putting her knees on his chest, so she was somewhat taller and could see him better. "Papa! Is what Mama said true? Are they le... leafs?" She asked, her nose scrunching up slightly, before she turned her head to stare at the trees again, eying them like they were some experiment.

Evangeline huffed out her chest, whipping her head back and out of reach of her brother's touch. So he had the nerve to laugh at her, did he? Well... she'd find some way to get back at him. She always did. Then again, if she was honest to herself and let her stubbornness fade, she knew that this whole ordeal was her fault, and that she deserved the laughter.
"Well... you know... you look funny too! Sometimes," she murmured, shaking her wings about her. She couldn't wait till they were like her daddy's, and she'd be able to fly gracefully with them, not just flop through the air like some wounded buzzard. She couldn't stand them right now--they were heavy, cumbersome, and they itched when new feathers grew in.
She finally gave up, turning defeated eyes toward her colorful brother. "Fine Dhiren... I GUESS you can help me. If you think you can manage it." She turned her neck sideways, ignoring the humored glances of her family, wanting nothing more than to get the scratchy twigs away from her skin. Being a tomboy was fun... but boy, did you get dirty!
Devicius grinned down at his pale-coated daughter, admiring the likeness that her markings had to her own. She was the most like him, he thought, with her intelligent eyes and her quiet thoughts. He almost lamented the fact that she had not inherited wings, and that she'd never be able to fly with him. But maybe... maybe she could, before she got much bigger. But that would be for another time, perhaps when they had a moment alone. Which was rare, in this rambunctious family.
He glanced up at the tree above him, squinting his eyes against the sun. He chuckled, looking back down to Bell, touching his nose to her soft white mane. "Well, my dear Bell, your mother is right. They are indeed leaves." He leaned down and nipped her ear playfully, giving her a reassuring look. "They are similar to the blades of grass, only a different shape. So similar, yet different."
He leaned back up and winked at Charlotte, so far proud at his ability to be a father. He couldn't deny it--he loved these foals. And he'd never think any different. He'd make sure they'd grow up to be pure-hearted, just like their mother.
"Did you know that the leaves fall, Bellezza? When the weather turns cold, they change colors and fall to the ground. You'll be able to play with them then."

Dhiren was still smiling at his sister as she seemed to go through an internal debate on if he should help her or not. He waited patiently, ruffling his fluffy wings and turned his attention back to Bellezza. She was now pawing at father for something and they exchanged words he couldn't clearly make out. Evangeline spoke and he flicked his black and blue ears in her direction and his head followed.
"Oh! What if I don't want to help you get them out of your hair now? You took ways too long to decide, sister." He laughed and went over to her when she turned and as gently as he possibly could, began plucking the twigs from her hair. When he was finished he smiled. "There you go, I'm thinking I got them all, but I'm sure mother would be able to tell better."
Charlotte was about to answer her daughter and explain further when she walked away from her and then to her father, asking him the same question. She supposed she was just being sure of the answer, ans smiled at the interaction between father and daughter. It was so cute she wanted to cry, but reined in her emotions, their children might think she'd been hurt. Perking back up she noticed Dhiren picking multiple things from Evangeline's hair, who didn't look at all pleased about the situation.

Bellezza watched her father, waiting for the answer. Her tail wiggled excitedly, shifting her stance some to lean her head back, staring more intently. She would get her answer, and when it did come, she looked at her mother and smiled brightly, wiggling her tail again. "Mama! You were ri-GHT!" Her voice pitched from the n** on her ear, said ears flickering down against her head. She leaned back to stare up at her father, blinking slightly before nodding her head and peered at the leaves again.
Bellezza stared at her father, and then her eyes widened, staring. She tilted her head, looking toward the leaves, before looking back up at her father. They fell? Like, onto the ground? She grinned, big, and then pushed off him, did a small circle in front of him, as if she was chasing her tail, and moved quickly over toward her siblings, almost stumbling as she ran, her tail wiggling. "Dhi! Eva! Did you, did you know that those green things in the trees fall?!" She said, wiggling happily, staring toward them, all too excited.

Evangeline huffed as her brother finished picking the twigs out of her hair, but deep inside she felt appreciation at the act. She twisted her head around and checked her deep orange locks, sniffing at them as if she could detect the smallest hint of twig. Though a few tiny pieces remained, she felt as if the job was well done and dropped her tough act, grinning at her brother. "Thank you, Dhiren. You're very... kind."
Then she straightened up, giving him a scathing look. "But don't you dare tell anyone I told you that! Because I'll... I'll... I'll pull one of your feathers out!"
She turned her head as her sister Bellezza came running towards them, suppressing a giggle as she almost stumbled. She listened to the new information she had, her eyes widening as she stared up at the trees. "They do? Like, a lot of them? Can we make them fall? I want to see them fall!" she exclaimed, going over and rearing up to tap her front hooves against the truck of a large maple. A deep thud echoed off the bark, but nothing more happened. She wrinkled her nose in disappointment, turning back towards her siblings.
"Well... that didn't work. What else should we try?"
Devicius chuckled at Bell's amazement, appreciating the awe that young souls held towards nature. When you're young, he thought, everything is magical to you. It's like walking in a fairytale, never knowing what you'll find next. He wished he could go back to that, maybe experience his childhood in a different way. But his father had warped his mind from a young age, and only Charlotte had been able to heal it. He decided that his children would be his new life, and that he would live on within them. They were, after all, extensions of him and Charlotte.
He grinned at the kind act Dhiren performed for his stubborn sister, knowing that the boy would grow into a fine stallion one day. He was proud that his children were already such fine beings, but then again, Charlotte had been a big part of that too.
He turned to his mate then, relishing the way the breeze rustled her hair. He stepped closer to her, rubbing his wings along her side. "Thank you Charlotte, for never losing faith in me. And thank you for blessing me with such beautiful children. I... I never knew I'd love them so much." He leaned his head against hers, drawing strength from her compassionate aura.
"Once again, Charlotte, I love you."

Dhiren nosed his sister and shook his head. "Well if you pull one of my feathers out...I'll pull out two of yours." He laughed. "Don't worry, you'r secret will be safe with me."
He looked at his other sister, then back to the many leaves on the tree. "They fall?" He tilted his head and asked a question similar to Evangeline's. "All of them?" He watched Evangeline try to make them fall. and perked his ears up. "I know we can't really fly yet but what if we run, jump, flap our wings and try to grab a branch?" He looked up to ponder and see if it would work.
Charlotte blushed and grinned at Devicius. "We have each other and beautiful children. We helped each other get to where we are today, my love." She looked into his eyes, smiling. "Its wonderful, knowing they love you so unconditionally." She blinked and sighed happily. "Isn't it amazing what we have created?" She nuzzled his neck happily. "I love you too, Devicius."

Bellezza nodded her head, moving up onto her hind legs. She tried to sniff at the leaves again, to reach them. Dropping down onto her full legs again, she glanced toward her siblings and blinked, staring. A small smile shifted onto her features, and she nodded her head several times, watching her sister rearing up and hit the tree. Her ears flicked up at the noise, and she she trotted over, nudging it with her nose, before backing up some, looking around.
It was then that her brother let out that suggestion. Bellezza glanced over and blinked, watching both of them. her eyes flickered over their wings, ears swiveling, before she looked back toward her own back, staring for a second, before she turned back toward her siblings. She blinked several times, before her ears flicked again, and she nodded her head. "That seems like a good idea! You both could try, to just get a few leaves." She stated, backing up a few paces. She couldn't help with this plan.. Not with her bare back.

Eva giggled at the image of her and her brother awkwardly trying to fly up and grab a tree branch. It was a good idea, yes, but what if she crashed? She wasn't good at flying yet, and doubted she would be for a while. Two sets of wings were so much harder to get used to than just one. But still, it sounded fun, and maybe they'd be able to bring some leaves down for Bell to investigate too...
Poor Bell. Eva had always wondered why her sister hadn't possessed a set of wings, but had settled for her father's explanation that the spirits had simply wished to build her that way. She was beautiful, at least. What she didn't have in feathers was tenfold in beauty, and her amazing likeness to father.
"Alright Dhi, let's try it! I'll race you to the top!" Without waiting to ask permission from their parents, she jumped up and flapped her wings as hard as she could, aiming for the green leaves. Her pattern was awkward and she swirled about a few times, nearly missing hitting the tree trunk. She had barely grabbed a mouthful of leaves before she lost her balance in the air, and as quick as a flash she fell back to the ground. Her rump pained her, but overall, she thought the event had been quite laughable, and burst out in giggles.
Devicius smiled at Charlotte, then went back to watching the foals. They seemed to be hatching out some plan... he hoped they wouldn't try to fly without asking him for help. They definitely weren't very good at it so far. Even he wished that he was a better teacher--in his younger years, he hadn't flown much in fear that it'd mess up his appearance. He'd only started serious flying barely weeks before he met Charlotte.
His mouth dropped as Eva lept from the ground, and he knew that Dhiren was not far behind. He almost ran after them, to catch them if they started to fall, then stopped himself. He couldn't be there for them forever... they'd have to learn from these experiences.
He turned to Charlotte, his face half concerned, half entertained. "I didn't think that fatherhood would make me worry this much! And it doesn't help that they listen to you more than I." He chuckled at the end and gave her a playful nudge.

Dhiren shook his head and grinned at his sisters challenged. He pondered the air he might need and the lack of practice he had and decided he should back waaay up. So he did. Spindly legs flying he galloped down back toward the tree and set his wings working. They got his front half off the ground and so with a pretty good leap, though he lost his footing, he made his way into the air, and flopped like a fish, managing to grab a branch with his teeth, he expected to just fall off of the branch, but no. No this branch was thick and too strong for a little foal to just break so he hung there in the tree, his rump swinging and hitting a few branches, he was sure they'd bruise. He squealed in fright, now afraid to let go and just fall, his back legs scrambled to find something to stand on, and they did, though it was a very awkward position and he was stretched out across a few branches. Squealing again, now very stuck in the tree, he managed to hook two front legs around a branch. Eyes wide and feeling a little brave, he let go of the branch he had hold of with his mouth and looked down. Looking down was a mistake because his sisters looked rather small from up here and though he wasn't very high up, he was still very scared. Tears began to well up in the little foals eyes. This had been a bad idea. A very bad idea. He looked out and took a deep breath. "Mommy! Daddy!" He looked around him and panicked again. "I'm stuuuuck!!!!"
Charlotte smiled at Devicius and shook her head, "Don't worry you aren't the only one who has a heart attack when they decide to do something they really shouldn't" At the end of her sentence her eyes widened as she looked past Devicius to see Evangeline fall on her rump and Dhiren do some awkward thing in the air and manage to lodge himself in the tree branches. Her mouth went slack and a small gasp was let slip as she stepped towards the three< then quickly trotted over. She leaned down to nuzzle the giggling Evangeline. "Are you alright?" Nuzzling her again she looked up into the tree, watching painstakingly as Dhiren situated himself, and could tell the foal was frightened. Though for a split second she thought it was odd. Who'd think a horse would get stuck up in a tree? But she snapped back from her thoughts, her attention stuck on her baby who was currently in a tree. Stuck.

Bellezza instinctively stepped back again, watching quietly. Her ears flicked every now and again, watching. When her sister jumped into the tree, Bellezza perked slightly, trying to see what she was doing. She reared up on her hind legs, and shifted a bit, head craning to get a good view, until her sister fell. Letting out a small squeal, Bellezza trotted forward and eyed her sister curiously, nose twitching some. "Are you okay?" She asked, voice somewhat concerned.
That was until her brother was running toward them. Her eyes alert, she moved away, almost hiding behind a tree, staring toward him, before her eyes kind of widened. She watched her brother just make the situation worse, before coming out and almost getting in the way of her mother, which just put her back into a bit of hiding. She stared quietly, deciding to stay hidden, just in case her father came barreling by to save her brother as well. Her ears pinned back, eyes intent on her mother and brother in the tree, not wanting to get in the way.
