Esui had taken the week to heal, making sure his wounds would not hinder him as he came to challenge for his place among the Storm Born again. He'd used the herbs and care his Sifu had taught him, rested when muscles needed it, stretched them when it was time.
Approaching the apex of the trail, his golden eyes searched out the male who should be here. Esui had watched and learned when the other was more than likely to take his turn on the cliffs.
As he had before, the golden colored male stepped into the center of the trail, his body relaxed, weight balanced, gaze calm and steady. It was time, and he was ready. (word count 490)

Taraxa had been anticipating the re-arrival of the blazing-yellow youth he'd bested weeks before. His hind leg was still giving him a bit of trouble but it wasn't anything that a short walk could solve. His other scrapes and scratches had healed rather nicely, as well, and he'd never admit it but he rather enjoyed the fussing of his daughters and his sister.
Since the younger lion's departure from the pridelands, Taraxa had taken a few days to heal before he was patrolling again. Every day he waited for the bright yellow lion to reappear and he never had -- until today.
Grinning, Taraxa slowly made his way to face the younger lion. "You're back," he said with satisfaction, bracing his paws as he waited for the other to make the first move.
(Poor bloke. XD)

Esui bowed his head, his voice low, " Back I am, yes. Honor is mine to met again you."
He gave the older lion a respectful look, and balanced his weight evenly. The young male was pleased he had been able to guess correctly when this male would most likely have had patrol. Even should he not win the challenge, he would not lose. For every time he traded blows with this male, he learned more and more, not only about him as an individual, but of the Pride he hoped to call his own someday.
Taking a steadying breath, he stepped to the left, beginning a common maneuver that would place him in a frontward attack, but just as he began to move at the apex of the circle, he feinted right and rather then striking for an unprotected leg or shoulder, he went for the other's ear.

Taraxa chuckled, the sound cut short when the younger lion pounced him. No time wasted with chitchat, Taraxa liked that about his opponent. It was refreshing, in all honesty. Sometimes Taraxa just wanted to fight, not banter back and forth -- and fight he did.
He heard the clack of teeth, teeth that had intended on snapping onto his ear. Thankfully he was able to dodge the attack. Ears were tender things, after all, and Taraxa was rather fond of his own ears.
Taraxa quickly moved to the side, his own paw rising up with unsheathed claws, intent on aiming for the younger lion's back. After all, this was a spar, and Taraxa did not want to permanently maim the other lion.

Esui had not counted on the older male being so quick, a costly mistake on his part. It meant he had not yet found his footing when the Stormborn countered. Caught off guard and off balance he was not able avade the blow. The most he could manage was a rolling twist.
It was an impressive feat of flexibility, but it did not save him completely. The young male let out a low grunt of pain as he felt the other's claws connect with fur, raking shallow furrows down his spine. They were enough to make him hesitate for a split second, before he was moving to the right.
He used the momentum from his landing to propel him over his opponent, striking not with his front paws, but with his back. Since he hadn't had the advantage of proper balance, the strikes were not as powerful as they should have been, but still managed to connect with fur and muscle.
Landing smoothly, he pivoted on front paws to face the older viking, blood coloring the fur of his back a rusted orange.

Taraxa never tired of seeing the blood of his opponents. The dark crimson was a pretty color against the younger lion's shockingly bright fur, and Taraxa took a moment to admire it, the twinges and punctures along his own back tainting the chocolatey fur that covered the large Reaver male.
Taraxa chuckled softly before he took a leap towards the younger male. Claws unsheathed yet again, aim intent on the other lion's chest and legs. He wasn't as young as he'd once been and found himself growing tired even after this minor exertion, but he did not allow himself to show any outward signs of his fatigue.

Esui stood his ground, moving at the last possible moment to the left, but not quiet fast enough to escape the attack fully. He manged to twist, pivoting on his back paw and making a quick strike to the other's throat.
(I lost were we were so I guessed on the 1:1 roll)
