Quote:
The Sirens might be called the Muses of the lower world, Walter Copland Perry observed: "Their song, though irresistibly sweet, was no less sad than sweet, and lapped both body and soul in a fatal lethargy, the forerunner of death and corruption." Their song is continually calling on Persephone. The term "siren song" refers to an appeal that is hard to resist but that, if heeded, will lead to a bad result. Later writers have inferred that the Sirens were anthropophagous, based on Circe's description of them "lolling there in their meadow, round them heaps of corpses rotting away, rags of skin shriveling on their bones."
Personalities: Hanna is an imaginative teenager with a penchant for delusions of grandeur and an obsessive need to feel special. This was spurned by a former life spent feeling like she was somehow more enlightened than everyone around her. She is decisive and cunning and would rather focus on practical solutions than hypothetical ones. For this reason, many gentler, kinder, patient people may think of her as a bit of a hard a**. Still, her mental flexibility is stellar and makes up for what she lacks in compassion and patience. She can accept any situation, bounce back, and adjust accordingly at the drop of a hat. Thinking outside of the box is not her specialty; it's her default mode. At the same time, she can easily be led on magnificent flights of fancy by virtue of this willingness to believe
anything is possible and can be influenced by a fast talker with good logic. If you can properly explain to her why there is totally a dragon in the closet, Hanna is the type who might buy it and run with it wherever you tell her to go. Hardworking, open-minded, and a touch whimsical -- Hanna is the type of Hunter who loves her job and is keen to uncover even more mysteries of the universe as her training continues.
Adelphe is a saucy lady, and she doesn't care who knows it. Unfortunately, Hanna is really the only audience she has, and so she spends the majority of her time talking the girl's ear off about how more people should be paying attention to her. The Lady is similar to Hanna in the sense that she believes she is an incredibly special creature -- and one that deserves praise, respect, and love. She is obsessed with the idea of being loved by others and is hungry for attention. If Hanna is rude to her, Adelphe will refuse to cooperate in battle, much like a petulant child. When the two are working in tandem, Adelphe displays an incredibly vicious, bloodthirsty side and takes pride in carrying Hanna through battles if need be. She is always convinced that she is right. Her favorite hobby is making Hanna uncomfortable during social situations by saying inappropriate, distracting things. In The Lady's mind, she is the ultimate femme fatale, and Hanna is just some little girl who is lucky enough to wield her. Below the surface, Adelphe craves greatness, even in the hands of a Hunter, and she secretly believes very strongly that she and Hanna are capable of really amazing things together. The Lady will become strongly acerbic to anyone who crosses Hanna. It's one thing for her to give Hanna a hard time -- but someone else? Unacceptable.
Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter? Hanna has always been obsessed with the idea that the reality she knows is not the only one and that there are more twists and turns to the universe around her than can possibly be uncovered in a single lifetime. Her fixation on the unknown drove a wedge between her and the rest of her family, one that widened considerably when she moved away to a college they didn't want her to attend in a town that they considered to be Bad News. With a stronger tie to the pursuit of enlightenment than anything else, Hanna is the type of person who would
sacrifice anything to learn the truth -- and so she did.
Weapon Ability: When Hanna's weapon is charged, Adelphe calls on the cannibalistic aspect of her heritage. The wounds that Hanna deals cause double damage. There is the cut that she causes through her physical action and then the magical side effect that chips away at the flesh of a victim, doubling the size of the wound. Her charged weapon literally eats at the flesh that it strikes, widening beyond the normal scope of her attack. Without this charge, Hanna must settle for wielding her weapon like any other double blade. Typically, she fights with it as a single weapon, but the handle has a locking mechanism that can be separated. If she chooses to separate her twin blade, she may fight with one hooked blade in each hand. However, Hanna typically prefers to fight with it as one piece.
