So, the company I work for may...be getting closed down. No one knows yet. But me being paranoid and scared of the future, I need a way out.
The navy seems to be one of my options as well as asking for a friend to take me in until I find a job. I have no parents or relatives so I have to ask him.
I hear the Navy may pay for an education for me as well so that might be a plus.
What would you do in my shoes?

I know college isn't for everyone, but I'd suggest finding a suitable job and getting a degree of some sort. Usually jobs that require degrees are a lot more stable. The military is a good option, too, since it has a lot of benefits and satisfaction involved.

I think you have to be a certain weight to enlist in the army.. or possibly a certain BMI, though I'm pretty sure it's 180 lbs for women, and like 220 for men. But, if you're in that, it's easier, if you're not, it's something great to work to. c:

Well if you want to hit two birds with one stone, there are military colleges. My brother is looking at some and apparently they are pretty good.

Just work. Save some money, so that if it closes down... well looky there, a little bit of money for the moment until you find a different job. Then save the little you can, apply for other jobs with a higher salary, and build a small savings account once you have a better job... never a bad thing to have a little money saved up... and if possible, try to get some college education... but leave the military as a last choice (that is unless you really want to)... you know there's going to be bad things ahead with the death of Osama... wouldn't be surprised if we're building to start another war.

Military seems to be my only option. I can't do college because, I don't have the money (yes I know loans and grants, I just don't like being given free money) and I don't think I would have the patients to keep up school and support myself. I would lose my mind

So pretty much, your risking your life to survive if you're joining the military... not a decision to take lightly.

From what I hear about the NAVY is that I may not have to see actual combat.

From what I hear about the NAVY is that I may not have to see actual combat. Yeah, that's because not a lot of people want to mess with a country that's known in history as one with the most powerful navy... but even that has some risks and downsides... like... hm... oh! You'll be on a ship for a long time, you're most likely going to be doing something to help keep the ship in operation (and such), there's really pirates out there, and our navy seals had just not too long ago killed Osama and the country's more than likely aren't going to be happy about the whole thing in general. (yes, I brought up the Osama death again sweatdrop ) ... and there may be some people trying to fish up Osama's body at sea out there anytime soon. In case your wondering, I'm not likely to go to the military or any armed forces anytime soon. xp
