Arceus, she was tired. Yesterday had been horrendous - thanks to the botched mission and questioning her longevity for several excruciating, consecutive hours - and last night hadn't been any better. They'd gotten back extremely late and even though Lucas stayed with her all night, he left early that morning and every time she tried to sleep, she was plagued with nightmares. But there was nothing else to do in her room besides sleep, which was impossible, and left her more than a little frustrated. Thus her trip to Camphoreon (during which she realized just how much she wasn't thinking), and thankfully ran into Alba who helped her with her TV, even going so far as to help bring it up to her room for her. It currently sat on a nightstand several feet from the bed with several assorted dvd boxes sitting in a stack in front of it. Even though it was on, there was only one person paying attention to it - and it wasn't even really a person.
It was Zeus, who had positioned himself on the edge of his trainer's bed and was staring at the screen, experimentally pushing every single button on the magic controller to find out what they did to the fun box. Claire had at some point fallen asleep curled up on her bed, with an ice pack resting on her hip. Resting on top of the ice pack was a pale blue chin which was attached to her Glaceon, who was also fast asleep and wore a pleased expression on her face, quite possibly due to the temperature of her 'pillow.' Odette was, as per usual, preening in a corner, while Artemis and Blue wrestled on the floor in the middle of the room.

Aulus poked experimentally at the burn on his torso. Yep - he winced - still sore. He wasn't sure what else he had expected. It could be an awful lot worse, in fact it was minor enough that he'd been given some stuff to clean it with himself and a small supply of dressings. Claire... some of the others including Claire had come off worse so he couldn't really complain. He hadn't actually seen Claire since they arrived back. He should go find her, see how she was feeling, and see whether or not Lucas had gone to see her and if he had what he'd said. They were sort of friends after all, he should find out if she wanted Lucas beaten up this time.
Decision made, Aulus made a quick job of cleaning up and sticking a dressing back over his burn before finding a fresh shirt and setting off in search of Claire's room with Tortie padding along beside him. Yes, he had found out where it was the very day after she was promoted. It was important to know where you friends lived. Anyway, he might have wanted to barge in and use her bathroom if there was a long line for the grunt showers. Sure he'd had to nose around a lot, but he'd found out eventually and he hadn't really had any plans for that evening anyway. As they arrived outside the room Tortie gave a pointed sigh; clearly she wasn't very impressed by this visit. Well, she could shove it... Well here he was. Time to knock. Why did he feel nervous?
Shaking his head at himself Aulus raised his fist and rapped smartly on the door. "Oi, Claire, are you in there?" Just play it cool... Play what cool? What exactly was it that he was playing cool? Nothing. Nothing to play cool. Just act natural. Right.

The knock made Artemis freeze in place for a moment before she bounded over to the door. Aulus might hear copious amounts of whuffling and excited shuffling on the other side.
Zeus' eyes were still glued to the TV screen, completely missing the deep inhale behind him - that is until the remote was suddenly whisked from his grasp and he was shoved unceremoniously off the bed. With an irritated growl he peered up at the bed, cheeks sparking mildly, only to see part of an arm and a hand with one finger out, pointed directly at the door. Grumbling to himself, the Pikachu trundled over as slow as he could.
The excited noises on the other side of the door suddenly ended with a dull thump and a sad whine, then several seconds later the knob jiggled and the door opened hardly a crack. Another moment later, Zeus widened the space several inches to peer up at Aulus with an obviously displeased expression that clearly said 'what do you want?'

"Hi Cl-" Oh. Nobody there. Aulus blinked and looked down. Ah. "Hi Zeus. Is Claire in?" If Zeus was in here out of his pokeball he could only assume so; somehow he couldn't imagine the troublesome Pudgeachu being left unattended.
commented Tortie with a roll of her eyes, At least the Pikachu was reasonable company, she'd probably eventually die of boredom and annoyance if there was nobody she could hang around with when her trainer decided he wanted to hang around with the female human. Stupid trainer. Stupid female. What had got into him recently? It seemed like he was seeking her out more and more. Tortie didn't like it, not one bit.
As Tortie addressed Zeus, Aulus raised an eyebrow; he had no idea what she'd said of course but he could tell from her tone that she was displeased. Still, he hadn't expected any different really.

He grumbled again and pushed the door open further so the pair could walk in. Artemis looked like somebody had called her a Bad Dog, Blue was rolling around with her toys on the floor, and Alexina was still blissfully asleep while using Claire's icepack as a pillow. The aforementioned young woman was still laying in bed, though she had propped herself up on her elbows and was rubbing her eyes with the heel of one hand. "Hey," she murmured sleepily, "must've dozed off at some point."
he said with a huff to the dark-type after closing the door behind them. And his door-guarding duties had been volunteered, not mandatory. Dumb humans..

He couldn't help but smile at her little menagerie, and her sleepy expression. She was really cute when she was just waking up, more so when she was waking up fairly gradually rather than in a great panic after realising she had fallen asleep on him... Well while that hadn't been as adorable it had been nice. Really nice. "Don't worry about it," Aulus made a dismissive gesture as he stepped inside, "I can bugger off again if you want to sleep... I just wanted to make sure you were alright after that farce of a mission, and... Did Lucas come to talk to you?" Do you want me to twist his head off and present it to you on a spike?
Tortie rolled her eyes, stand snivvlers.> Apparently her trainer could though. He'd probably enjoy it if it meant he got a chance to cuddle up to the damned female. Sitting down and hunching her shoulders, the dark-type regarded Aulus dubiously.

"No, that's okay," she said with a yawn before she half-rolled over onto her back and lifted herself up so she was leaning against the headboard. With a sleepy chur, Alexina repositioned herself to continue using the icepack as a pillow. "Aww, coming to check on me? How sweet," she teased, reaching over to stroke Xina's head. Mr. Prickly Manly-Man actually had feelings, aww. Mention of Lucas brought a warm smile to her face. "He did. He apologized too, felt really bad for everything." And stayed all night because she was in the middle of an emotional breakdown, but she'd never mention that.
all the time, but I don't understand why she does it when she does.> Humans were so weird... Chances that she'd cry now were incredibly slim at best.

"Well... Yes," Aulus shrugged and looked down at sad-puppy Artemis. "We are teammates after all, problem with that?" There was a problem with that. A casual friendship was one thing, but caring enough to have made an idiot of himself over her on the raid and now to have come here was worrying. He wanted to have close friends, of course he did, but... but he didn't want to get burned again. Looking back up he tried to evaluate the woman before him. Slightly tousled black hair that he doubted was her natural colour. Hazel eyes that he knew were natural, but that she so often hid behind those vivid lenses. Her name wasn't Claire. How could he trust her? He didn't trust her, but he wanted to more and more with every day that passed. Loneliness in a base that was so full of other people. It wasn't a nice feeling, not nice at all.
"I'm glad Lucas came and made up with you," Aulus went on after a moment, looking down at Tortie now and stroking the thick soft fur of her mane. "I might not like him but... Well it was decent of him to apologise, and if you like him that's what matters anyway."
Tortie snorted, referring both to Claire only crying on Lucas, and to Aulus finally paying her a bit of attention. the dark type went on with a sly grin as a thought occurred to her.

He certainly wasn't as defensive now as when she first met him, and noticeably less prickly as well, though obviously not towards everyone else. Especially Lucas. Still, she couldn't help but smile at his words. "Thank you," she said sincerely, then sat up a bit more and curled her legs up a bit, and Xina shifted once more to sleep in the small space beside her. She was thoroughly enjoying that ice pack, thankfully - Claire had offered it to her for the sole purpose of helping to keep it in place on her hip. Anyway, once more space was created she gestured with one hand that he could come sit down if he wanted. He was a good friend - he really was - and she felt it would be rude to make him just stand there the whole time. "So," she continued after a moment as a wry smile tugged at her lips, "a little bird told me you and Lucas had a little 'argument' last night after we all got back." Not that she'd tell him who that little bird was, of course.
Zeus snorted, folding his arms over his chest and watching Artemis bark and bound over to Aulus to thoroughly sniff him - probably at Tortie's mention of the Charmeleon. Humph, next time he'd make her open her own damned door.

Well he'd look like an idiot if he just stayed standing up. Offering a brief smile of thanks - oh look, her hair was all wavy again, it suited her - Aulus moved to sit on the edge of Claire's bed, noticing as he did so that it was rather bigger than his own. Nice. Sooner he could get to Agent the better...
Oh. Yea. That. Well he supposed somebody probably would have told her by now. He had kind of raised his voice maybe slightly a little. "Ha," the scarred man gave a wry smile, "Tweeted you did it? Yea, I guess you could say we had a little argument... I was angry with him, as you probably gathered. He had no right to treat you like that..." This was getting a bit personal. "Anyway, he was being pretty damn hypocritical about the whole thing. Soon as he found out I knew you he threatened to break my spine for just going near you. Was I supposed to just say it was none of my business when, after saying that to me, he went on to hurt you? Not a sodding chance, and I'm not going to apologise to him either. Won't take it any further either though, if you've forgiven him." And there he went getting personal again. Still, even if he didn't know much about her maybe they could be friends. She had to have her reasons for being so secretive, right? She wasn't just doing it for kicks, was she?
Tortie said, narrowing her eyes as her trainer moved to sit on the female's bed. Where was she going to draw hers? Could she draw a line? He had power over her. It had never seemed like a problem before but now...

Artemis bounded after Aulus as he sat down on the bed, then stopped in front of it and dropped into a play stance, her large fluffy tail wagging furiously. Where was Char? Oh, how she wanted to see him! Blue, on the other hand, had chased after her large fluffy plaything and was currently trying to jump up to grab her tail so she could chew it.
Her bed was only marginally larger than his own, but it was still bigger and that was what mattered. That and it was in a slightly more spacious room, made all the more spacious due to the lack of a second bed and second set of furniture. She loved having her own room. Finally. "I figured," she said with a light chuckle, hazel eyes drifting over to watch Artemis as the Growlithe whined in her eager anticipation. Wait, was.. was Aulus being... protective? Oh, he was. That was just adorable. "Yeah, please don't. I mean, I'm not happy he did it but he had his reasons, and he didn't do it specifically to hurt me. He actually said he did it because he didn't want to hurt me," which was odd in and of itself but then again, that was Lucas. He'd been confusing since the day she met him and her brain nearly imploded.
A sly look crossed Zeus' face as he studied her face, watching her watch Aulus and Claire. It wasn't obvious in the least, of course not. Not one bit.

"Char's not here," said Aulus with a slight smile, correctly guessing the Growlithe's motives (she always wanted so see Char), "he's doing work for me. Next time I come I'll bring him with me, promise..." Promises to puppies. Still, wasn't like Claire seemed to believe he was macho in any way shape or form anyway. Shooting the woman in question a sheepish glance, Aulus shrugged. "Guess they must really have been good friends... Anyway. Alright. I won't. Hu. Didn't want to hurt you... Can't claim to understand the man, but whatever." He liked her. He did. He liked her more than he'd liked anyone in years but... but he didn't know anything about her. He didn't know where to begin with questions, or if she'd answer them or not.
"...Claire? Do real names matter to you?... I mean given names." Well that was something, he supposed.
Damn electric rat. She didn't really have it in her to be angry with him though. Tortie replied, shooting a glare up at Aulus, mine... He seems pretty fixated with her now though. How is it fair for them to use us, and then just drop us when something else catches their eye?> He could shut her away forever if he wanted. She had always trusted that he wouldn't do that, but she had also always trusted that he would always love her best...

Upon finding out that Char wasn't there and wouldn't be, Artemis immediately and completely deflated, lowering herself to lay on the floor with her ears drooping and tail still. "Awrr..?" Why wasn't he here? This fact alone managed to make her look like the saddest puppy ever. The promise to see him next time seemed to placate her though, if only slightly, so she sat back up to pant with her tail thumping against the carpet. A muffled "vffui!" from behind her indicated that Blue did not realize the big fluffy thing would start moving so fast again so soon, and had probably been hit in the face. Several times.
"He's pretty difficult to understand," she said with a light chuckle. "Even now I'm still not sure about a lot of things, but there it is. He's been hurt pretty bad in the past and he also thinks he's hurt close friends before when he hasn't, so he doesn't want friends - or he says he doesn't - for that reason." And look how that turned out. The mention of real names brought a small smile to her face as she focused on him again. She wondered when he'd ask about them again. "They do," she said at length, relaxing against the headboard. "Why do you ask?"
he said with a shrug before flopping onto his stomach to be more comfortable.

Thought he had hurt but he hadn't, said he didn't want but he did?... Egh, that guy was complicated. Perhaps it was small wonder he was like that given he was such a psycho, or maybe he was such a psycho because he was like that... Forget it. Forget him. The stupid old man wasn't worth thinking about, especially not when he had more important things to think about.
Why did he ask?
"Well... I guess it just seems weird that I've known you for a couple of months now and I still don't know your name. Don't know where you come from. Don't know your natural hair colour, though now I can tell it's not naturally straight." He wanted to connect with her, to understand her. He wanted her to understand him, too. "My name's Kurt. Kurt Hayden. I moved to Kanto when I was eighteen, lived in England before that... Oh, and this is my natural hair colour."
Tortie responded with a huff, She'd always got the feeling that she didn't quite match up to that lost pokemon. That hadn't felt fair, but she could accept it. She was finding it harder to accept the idea that he might be starting to like a human more than her. After all she'd done for him this was the thanks she got? Her whole life spent by his side, but apparently that didn't matter in the face of a pretty female. It wasn't fair!

As he spoke, her mouth twitched into a warm smile. She couldn't help but wonder why he was suddenly so forthcoming with personal information - she certainly never asked - but then remembered she was the one that brought him here. Alba knew him and thought he was nice, she didn't know how many other people on base he'd met or how many he got along with. She couldn't imagine it was very many, considering his usual attitude. "Kurt from Kanto, hmm?" Or England, but that was obvious from his accent and had been for a while. She couldn't help but chuckle at his natural hair color comment. "I didn't doubt that it is, though your eyes had me for a while." Until she'd seen him go underwater twice without worrying over contacts. Not everyone's eye color was fake.
"Alright," she said after a moment, shifting to a more comfortable position on the bed. "Mm, can't tell you my name yet - you're lucky to even know it's fake, so don't go around telling people that - but," her fingers ran through a lock of hair that she pulled forward and studied briefly, "you're right, it's naturally sort of wavy like this. And it's a light brown." He knew her eye color, she wouldn't tell him about Galactic... ah. "I'm from Sinnoh, lived there my whole life up until last year when I moved to Johto to join up, then transferred here after I was promoted to grunt." Which was still such an odd title. She hummed thoughtfully for a moment, trying to figure out what else to say... "Even though I lived in Sinnoh, my family and I used to go to other regions every so often. I won Odette in a poker game in Goldenrod in Johto.. Almost 6 years ago now, I think." Wow, had it really been that long ago?
The golden bird cooed at the mention of her name, then continued preening.
He didn't seem like the type to misplace things, but maybe it was similar to how Claire didn't have any of the ones she'd had before except Odette. Weird. he huffed. Seriously, she should just get over it.
