Wynter filled her lungs with the clean, dawn-lit air and exhaled slowly. Her rose-pink eyes were as deeply content as any fox could ever hope to be, and her body posture was of one at complete relaxation.
One of Wynter's favorite parts of the day was to greet the sunrise at the top of the highest hill in the land she inhabited. It was one of the few hills steep enough that nothing but rocks and grass could grow upon it, as well as the occasion hardy rock flower. She was slightly over eye level with the tops of the trees that made up the forest, and got to watch at the sky lightened from deep blue to steel blue, then pale gray, then the lightest of peaches, lavenders, and oranges that morphed into the gentle blue of the day sky as the bright solar disk rose higher. Mist floated in a light layer at the treetops where dew evaporated, giving the whole scene an etheral beauty.
Really, all Wynter could find to regret about her current situation was that there was no one to share this amazing beauty with...

Arcana hmmed some weird little tune as she walked around gathering the different materials that she would need. Recently she had been on a coming of age journey away from the clan and was learning her own set of skills for telling the fortunes that would add to the small little group.
For a while she had been traveling with her younger sisters Celestia and Magica but then they had disappeared and she had been left all alone. It was a bit sad thinking about it. Since their mom had died from complications during her pregnancy and there was no info on their dad what so ever so other than the clan the three had pretty much always just had them selves. However as the oldest she knew they had to go out and explore the world and find where they belonged. Perhaps Arcana should do that as well but the need to give back to the small group who had helped raised her often overshadowed such a feeling. She paused in what she was doing and looked over at the sunrise smiling. It was a good blending of the colors and signaled that the day would be good. For what she wasn’t sure yet but still good was well good hopefully.

Because Wynter was sitting, so perfectly still and silent, she was able to pick up the faint thread of music the breeze carried to her. She didn't move from her spot to look around; not just yet. The tune was slowly increasing in volume, and was a very pleasant melody to Wynter's ears. It actually seemed to fit in perfectly with the dawn, insinuating itself in such a way that it belonged.
The song reached what sounded to be a stopping point, just as the bottom of the sun cleared the tree tops and the sky began it's transformation to brilliant blue. Wynter sighed happily, pleased with the timing. Of course the song didn't have to necessarily be over, but the notes seemed to be moving to a slighter different pace, as though the hummer was making up her song to go along with the enviornment.
Only then did Wynter look around. There was no one in view just yet, but she was quite sure the hummer would appear in the span of a few breaths. She decided to wait for them to come to her, and sat facing the rise with her usual tranquil expression. While she waited she attempted to deduce the gender of the hummer. Female, most likely, or a very young male.

Arcana paused a second in her humming trying to remember the rest of the song. It was a rather interesting song about deceit and revenge and other such things and Arcana didn’t remember all of the song and most of the time was remembering the chorus but looking from the perspective of anyone listening from the outside who didn’t know the words she supposed it could be thought of as a happy uplifting tune. The thought brought a slight chuckle to her eye.
She should actually remember more of her song after all it was about the history of her clan in a weird way; only of course with more embellishing and magic and things like that. It was also amusing that they passed it around because it played her ancestors as the bad guys. Well actually that was probably partially why they passed it around in the first place. She had to admit her “family” had a very odd sense of humor.
Suddenly the wind shifted and she noticed that she wasn’t as alone on the mountain as she thought. The quick thought that they could be hostile pasted through her mind but she decided she could easily out maneuver a heavier daeva or a normal fox if it resulted in such a case. However they hadn’t done anything yet and they must have noticed her singing right? It was better to see what happened after all her earlier prediction was today was supposed to be good…. Although she was wrong on occasion… a lot of occasions.

Ear tips appeared in the empty air at the edge of the hill, quickly revolving into a head and face. Wynter's initial assumption of female proved to be correct. She was a little surprised to see the feathery wings sitting atop the body much larger than an average female. Phims weren't a common sight, and Wynter had never met one personally.
She dipped her head in greeting. "Hello," she said, voice quiet yet still managing to carry. "I did not expect to see anyone here this morning."

Ah well it was a normal. This wasn’t any indication that arcana didn’t like normals, in fact in her clan there where a bunch of normal foxes. It was that she was just soo used to be surrounded by phims it was a little strange to see a normal, instead of the reality where phims where rare creatures in her view point it was the normals who where rare. At least this normal seemed nice. The last one she had met was rather pessimistic and had started to get Meris rather riled up.
“Hello yourself, it’s a lovely day don’t you think” Arcana called back in a cheery voice. “ I am sorry if I am intruding its just I found so many interesting things around here I just got carried away” she pointed out sheepishly.

Wynter's reaction was to blink, the slow and deliberate sort of one who doesn't quite get what the other is saying. "Indeed, the day is starting off so beautifully," she said, turning her head for a moment to glance at the sun. There was now a bit of a gap between the bottom of the disk and the trees. Soon the orange color would turn into the blinding light that was impossible to look directly at without harming one's eyes. And the sky continued to get lighter by the minute.
Wynter turned her head back towards the Phim and her quiet, tranquil voice took on a friendly note that added a hint of life and volume, though it could still be termed as quiet. "You are not introducing. Indeed, I quite enjoy that I am able to share the spectacular view with someone, even one I have just met." She smiled a little, then her face when back to a polite blank and she did another slow, deliberate blink.
"Forgive me for asking, but..... Interesting things?" Wynter was a nonmaterial fox whose only collections were limited to things needed for survival. She was unfamiliar with the concept of a personal possession.

Arcana frowned. She hadn’t done something off did she? Customer relations were important as you didn’t want to scare them off. She noticed the vixen seemed to be staring off into the sunrise. It was pretty and she often looked at them but today she was focused on gathering the materials for her fortune telling. She hadn’t told one in such a long while that she was afraid she had gotten rusty.
“Ah yes sharing things always makes them more enjoyable. Its even better when they are close but some times you just have to um… take what you can get” Arcana stated wondering if she was going to say something weird again. The vixen before her was hard to read and seemed to be stuck in neutral most of the time. It had Arcana looking back at what she had said again.
“Yep interesting things, see like this rock it looks like a bird and this one looks like a squirrel. These twigs have finally been petrified. Um stuff like that” Arcana trailed off. “It’s really good for um fortune telling and stuff” she muttered.

"So things with unusual shapes that are not often seen in nature." Wynter turned her gaze to the ground, and scratched at the rocky soil. "Are things like this something of interest," she asked, and gave whatever she had unearthed a nudge with her nose so that it rolled to within a few feet of the Phim's paws.
The stone in question turned out to be a piece of smoky quartz, clear shot through with black that formed veins and smoke-like billows. It was not quite round, those was a little too round to be considered a proper rod shape.
There were a couple other types of stone with unusual colors set along the hill, and possibly with unusual shape, if that was what the Phim was looking for. The only attention Wynter paid them was to watch the colors light up when the sun hit just right, and to note that birds seemed quite fond of the sparkly ones. She was certain she knew several good areas to look in though.

Well at least she wasn’t giving Arcana those slightly confused looks anymore, hopefully. It told the young phim she was going to have to go back to learn more about fox relations when she got back to her clan. “Ah yes something like that” Arcana pointed out following the other Vixen’s gaze to the ground. She seemed to be unearthing something. Carefully and a bit cumbersomely she scooped the stone up with her paws and looked at it.
The stone wasn’t something she would normally use but since her companion had made an attempt to find something it wasn’t as if she couldn’t use it. Stones were used for another part of fortune telling she was getting into. “They could be if I could find the set to complement them” Arcana answered. She had gathered up a couple more stones in her adventures today. Arcana carefully brought the stone up to look at in the light and smiled. If nothing else it was pretty to look at. Maybe she would make a collection. If the markings weren’t right she could always slowly carve the desired rune into the stone. She gave a look of gratitude over towards the vixen. “Oh excuse my manners. I’m Arcana.”

"Wynter," she responded, a small smile creeping up on her face. Her gaze turned back to the little crystal of quartz she had offered to Arcana. "Are you sure that is correct? You don't have to keep something just to spare my feelings. And-," she added, the smile still present, "-I wish to help. I cannot do so if I am not sure what to look for."
Now Wynter sat and waited. She wasn't sure if she was only making herself out to be a pest or not. There were always certain things others preferred to do on their own. What was unfortunate was that they felt they would hurt other's feelings by denying them the opportunity to accompany them, however. It only made that person miserable to have to be social, and the others miserable as they picked up on the mood of the first person.
If Wynter had to guess she was pretty sure Arcana would express a desire for solitude if she had one, since they could only be termed acquaintances at this point and Wynter had just given Arcana the subtle hint that her feelings wouldn't be hurt.

“Wynter huh… that’s a pretty name” Arcana pondered to herself. As the sun began rising higher the blackness of her feathers started to heat up. “No you made an effort to help me and that means something to me so I shall keep it. After all I can use it if I find a similar set. It’s not really about sparing feelings at all. It’s um…..” Arcana trailed off not quite sure how to explain it.
It looked as if she wanted more of an answer but Arcana really didn’t know exactly what she was looking for. It was a weird feeling having some one trying to help her. Arcana was from a clan of sort of gypsies. They would often deal with telling fortunes, but they always stressed the importance that what they told foxes could be influenced by the decisions the questioner made. Of course when the prediction didn’t come true the clan took all sorts of insults and heat from mean things like being called quacks to worse.
“Sure I would love the company looking but I’m not really looking for anything in particular just things that stick out. “ hmmm maybe she could do a small fortune telling to tell what to look for and what would get the best results. Arcana reached out and fumbled for a couple things in the bag she carried. Grasping a couple of stones she shook her paw a bit before tossing them to the ground. “You have any crystal like purple stones?” she asked gathering back up the stones. They had said to look for something amethyst in nature. Obviously it was not a reading for an actual amethyst but things similar in texture and color.

Wynter thought for a moment, trying to recall all the different stones she had seen on the hill before. "Mostly it's amethyst up here," she said, eyes still containing a far-away look as she thought. "There are one or two other types though. Pretty rare, you're more likely to find them in crevices or the occasional burrow-like cave. To find the uncommon you have more luck around actual mountains."
As she said this she turned to look off in the distance, opposite of the forest and a bit behind and to the right of Arcana. The hills marked the borderland between the forest and the mountains, though the later was a bit too trecherous for Wynter to visit often. She'd heard there were valleys here and there as points of safety, but one had to know where they were to count on them for that.

“Oh well that’s good” Arcana stated. It means she wasn’t as rusty as she had first thought although as long as you remembered fortune telling it didn’t matter how long you where way the skill quickly came back. “Well it doesn’t have to be the actual stone but something that looks like it.” She told her. The only problem with amethyst stones was you had to break open the stone to get to them. In fact geodes where pretty interesting and often had energy keeping powers. She could use a bit of magic but it was mostly because she was raised up to be a shaman type.
Arcana watched as Wynter looked off into the distance. Where there were situated seemed to be between a rather dense looking forest and some mountains. As a flier and a bit of an adventurer Arcana saw no problem in either. She actually preferred the second because Mountains tended to create wonderful thermals and she didn’t have to fly as often.

Wynter stood and stretched, then walked a short distance towards another small spot she'd made note of on her last climb. Arcana was still in sight, even, which made Wynter think that maybe this rocky hill had more little colored stones than she'd thought. It was probably that she hadn't paid strict attention since she had no use for the stones herself.
She came trotting back with a small round in her mouth. A crack ran through it, revealing clear/white crystal with the faintest hint of purple before the crack obstructed any further view.
"I do not know if these would interest you as well. They must be broken to see inside, but for a flier I imagine you could drop it from a great height to do so." Wynter had to tilt her head back to look up into Arcana's face. "If you desire we can also go to the mountains where I know more stones to be, or can guide you in the right direction. Perhaps we can do so after exploring the rest of this hill?"
Wynter hoped she wasn't babbling at Arcana. It had been a long time since she'd last had company, she realized, and was actually eager to spend some time with others. Odd, since she had never minded being alone either.
