Ra'd was currently relaxing as best he could in his den, the long day having passed rather uneventfully save for that little sparring bit near the end of it. He was licking the wounds he'd incurred, his mind going over how he lost (not officially, but had it been a duel he would have). He'd gotten used to swallowing his pride after each fight he lost, taking it as a learning experience rather than a humiliating one. It helped make him stronger, accentuated his flaws in battle so he could fix them and improve. He'd come a long way since joining the Simo, both physically and mentally, and in hindsight it was no doubt one of the best decisions he'd ever made.
The male huffed and, satisfied with his work (half-assed as it was) he lay his head down and rolled onto his side, wishing sleep to come. Part of him was anyway. The other part was waiting for Kai to get home, just so he could see her face before drifting off into whatever dream awaited him that night.
She was tired, how could she not be? Hunting all day, bring back what she could so she could leave it for those younger than her, giving them a smile as they looked upon her with excited faces. She had wanted to say goodbyes faster, but the younger of the pride were so avid with questions, but some she could not ignore. They were precious, their little faces, their excitement,a nd in the back of her mind she wondered, had her mother ever felt like this towards ehr and Ka? Or were they always so troublesome, that she never cracked evenn a half smile? As she left the tiny vultures, she could onyl think of one thing: Ra'd. Where was he, how was he, and how fast could she get home.
As she ran over teh dunes, her heart beat steady in her chest and ehr crimson eyes were on teh sand. She watched it as the wind moved, and how tracks would disappear into nothing as if a ghost had walked into the desert. As she skid to a halt outside the den's entrance, he was resting but the scent in the air was that of another, a battle, duel? No, less, sparring. She looked over his fur and could see he was roughed up a bit, and she smiled warmly walking in, trying to be quiet.
He hadn't done a very good job cleaning up his wounds, she held in a snicker, didn't know if he was wake, and leaned over to place a gentle lick on his shoulder, "Rough day?" she whispered.
His eyes followed her silently as she moved closer, shifting slightly as she licked over a wound there was no way he could reach, shrugging. "Something like that," he replied, all smiles despite the stinging sensation on his shoulder. He rolled back onto his stomach and nuzzled her affectionately, briefly touching his nose to hers and pulling back. It was all he could ever manage, yet somehow she still stood by him up until now. Something of a miracle, no doubt, but he was grateful for it. Perhaps one day he'd learn to be a little more forward. One day, though not anytime soon? Who really knew.
"Another loss," he stated matter-of-factly before she could ask. He was sounding less and less disappointed with each loss, as his views on it had changed rather drastically since he first arrived. "I was a little too anxious again so he got the better of me." He lifted a paw and started working on cleaning himself up again, his mind quickly going over the battle once more. "What about you?" he then asked, golden-yellow eyes going over her form, trying to judge for himself what kind of day she'd had. He was never good at guessing, actually.
"Nothing like the day you have had," she said simply letting him roll over and reaching to clean the wounds he couldn't reach withe ase. She was gentle with her tongue, but she also wanted to make sure no sand particles were within any scratch, even a small bit could lead to prolonged stinging, and a slower healing time. "I went hunting earlier, brought some back for the young ones, they were excited today, you should come next time," she said sweeping over the fact that he ahd another loss. But, with each loss, he grew stronger, and she hoped that he never forgot that for one moment. "You know, it has been a while since we sparred," she smiled with her eyes, almost into a grin.
Taking a step back she stretched her forelegs and then her back, spreading her toes and her claws she sighed. "It has been a while, I guess," she said sarcastically, "I could show you some pointers," she came closer to him, nuzzled his chin, purred in his ear, "there are a few things you've yet to learn," she licked his quickly and laid beside him, snuggling to his side. "Does it hurt? Any more of them?" she was concerned, but she loved him, and that love kept her close to him even if far away in her dreams.
He relished the feeling, his body going rather limp as she worked on cleaning the wounds that he couldn't. "I'd like to," he said, opening his eyes for a moment and glancing up at her. "Mm, but I don't know if I'm any good with little ones. I guess if you're there they won't mind me much.." His musings led him to his own little world for a moment, only to be brought back by her whispering into his ear. He shivered slightly and grinned, letting her be and simply enjoying the warmth she brought as she lay beside him. He scooted a bit closer to her. "Maybe another time, love," he said with a little sigh. "I'm beat for today."
The large male heaved a long, contented sigh as she lay down beside him. His thoughts went back to when they were still cubs in the Pridelands. "Do you remember when we first met?" he asked with a chuckle, an affectionate look in his eyes. Those were the memories he cherished the most, after all.
