Fenja was parched. After one blotched hunt, she’d been walking for over a day and no source of water crossed her path. She’d noticed the scents growing stronger around her indicating the close proximity to a lion pride but, at this point, the bright lioness honestly didn’t care anymore. She was usually cautious – often to a fault – but she was quickly becoming too desperate to choose a different way. Where there were prides, there was water. And Fenja really, really, really wanted something to drink. She’d been told once there was a pride where lions drank each other’s blood and quite honestly, that idea was getting less repulsive with each step she took.

Vevilla had been wandering around near the edges of the pride for most of the day, most of the time she was awake. She had been wanting something to do for most of the day and once again she found herself doing nothing better but wandering around the edges of the pride. She love dher pride but she wanted adventure and there was so many more interesting things that happened at the edges of the pride then in the pride. That was the case anyway when it was one of those days when everyone was settled into the pride not really doing that much.

She found herself in a way becoming a 'guard' of sorts, or thats what you would call it anyway. It was nice and amusing she liked it a lot, but at the same time it made her want to stay in the pride and sing all day, but when others weren't in the drum circle she didn't find it as fun, not where near as much fun. Not as much fun at all. However on the other hand she found herself humming as she wandered, that is until she say another wandering around not that far away from her. "Hello!" She called out in her normally cheery voice.

“Oh, hello!” Fenja said with a small delay because she’d failed to notice the other lioness until she heard the patched lioness’ voice and she had to look around to find her. Still, the red-eyed lioness seemed to be quite friendly and Fenja’s worries decreased significantly. “Excuse me, are you part of the pride?”

Well, of course she was. It would highly unlikely that two strangers would suddenly meet at the edge of a pride without one of them being part of it. Still it was only normal to ask for confirmation.

“I’m really sorry to intrude but do you know where I can find the closest waterhole?” she stepped closer to the pale lioness, taking a moment to look at her markings. It was as if yellow rain had fallen on the lioness, quite interesting. “I’ve been walking for quite a bit and I’ve somehow managed to avoid every drop of water in the area.”

Vevilla smiled brightly and nodded to her. "Oh yes I am!" She giggled some, she was very proud of the pride that she came from. She always was ever since she was little and although there were times where she wanted to wander away she was still very proud of the place that she came from. She spoke once more in her still bright and cheery voice. "This is the Nchi'mahadhi pride my name is Vevilla."

She then laughed and shook her head, "you aren't intruding at all, it's hard to find water around here some times. She knew it was pretty true and at times she had ran into others who also needed some water, little did most of them know but around the protective mountains around her pride there was VERY large source of water, and music.

"I can lead you to some water that is if you don't mind wandering into the pride." She was going to welcome the lioness right into the pride but she knew that some were uncomfortable by that idea. "We are a pride very friendly to lionesses." she nodded at the idea hoping that the lioness would take her word for it she didn't likethe idea of making some one uncomfortable.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Fenja.” She bright lioness replied cheerfully, pretty happy with the reaction she was getting so far. It was nice to meet someone so friendly though the whole “very friendly to lionesses” did put her on edge a bit, making her think twice about following Vevila.

“Erm… what do you mean by that?” She asked, forcing her voice to sound casual and then slowly some tension began to betray her thoughts. Fenja was deeply protective of her freedom and it was more than a little aware of the fact that some prides made slaves out of other felines, lions included. Honestly, what kind twisted mind decided to enslave another creature - sometimes their own kind? “Would I be... allowed to leave if I entered your territory?”

Vevilla was happy to see that the lioness was friendly and not hostile like she could have been. That was something that made her happy that was for sure. She paused before nodding to her. "It is very nice to meet you Fenja." She flicked her hair out of her eyes and then grinned at the female.

She looked at the female with a confused look, a throughly confused look. Why did the lioness seemed to be confused? That really was confusing she wasn't that sure. She flicked her hair out of her eyes again and then as the lioness spoke again she started to laugh she couldn't help it. "Oh, no, no, no!" She shook her head determinedly. she wanted to make sure that the lioness knew that no one in her pride had bad intentions. "You're really safe here." She wanted to make sure the lioness knew that she ment it.

Alright, the laugh convinced her.

Being laughed at for her question combined with Vevila’s expressions – and Fenja was watching them carefully - gave the bright lioness enough confidence to believe she wasn’t jumping into slavery anytime soon.

“Ah, sorry.” She laughed with the other lioness, smiling bashfully. “I’ve been a rogue since I was little and I’ve seen and heard about some really weird prides. Some nasty ones, too.”

“Well, in that case... I’d love to go with you. What kind of pride is it?” Her mouth felt dry and her tongue rough but Fenja could already taste the water that was almost within her reach. “Lead the way.” She moved to Vevilla’s side with a happy bounce in her steps.

"Well..." She started to laugh again, "well you see I was born and raised in this pride." She chuckled again and then flicked her hair out of her eyes and then started down thinking thoughtfully. "I've heard of them, my mom was born and raised in the pride but she's been out of the pride a few times and traveled some distance. I haven't... But she's told me stories about these prides." She nodded, she had heard of these places and even though she had never been to one she still had heard about them, she was pretty sure that she didn't want to go to one of them.

Vevilla nodded and then started to wander toward the watering hole. Lake Victoria was one of her favorite parts of the pride, it was well hidden away and protected by the pride. She grinned ear to ear as the lioness asked a question. "Well. It's a musical pride. I sing." She said brightly. She knew that not many others knew what music was but it was something easy to explain but she always liked to find out if others knew aobut it first, it was something she always liked to do.

Fenja nodded as Vevilla spoke of her mother’s experiences, happy that she seemed to understand the dangers of recklessly approaching an unknown pride. She didn’t have to worry about her little show of caution being seen as offensive, apparently.

“Music…?” Fenja froze, suddenly tense, instantly surrounded by the terribly clear memories of a pride long dead, of bright pelts dancing and singing in unison. As her mind brought forth a string of new memories of a little white and pink cub that sang to her with the most beautiful voice she’d ever heard, Fenja had a strange expression now, almost afraid and if it weren’t for the extreme thirst she was experiencing, the bright lioness would most likely have excused herself and bolted right out of that place. As it were, pulled apart very contradicting instincts, Fenja merely stood where she’d stopped, trembling a little.

Vevilla let out a light hearted laugh when the lioness asked about music. "Yeah! Music. I'm not surprised if you've never heard of it I know a lot who haven't. She paused and then nodded her head she was a little confused then, she wasn't sure if she heard the foot steps behind her still. She paused and then turned around and saw the lioness standing there. She blinked and then started to trot over to the other lioness a grin still on her face "You okay?" She asked curiously before pausing was she okay?

She then turned serious her face not longer grinning she was a little confused. "You okay miss?" She asked curiously arching a brow at her. She wasn't very sure what to think about the lioness not sure what to think for sure. She flicked her hair out of her eyes before she began to speak again. "Is there something wrong?" She was very confused, why was she trembling? she really wasn't that sure she was pretty sure she didn't say anything that bad. Did she?

Fenja eyed the other lioness with the same odd expression. It was clear she was worrying Vevilla but any reassuring words or fake cheer got stuck on her dry throat. Organizing her thoughts was hard enough already without trying to put them into words.

“Yes.” She said at last in a firm whisper as she started moving forward again, clearly avoiding Vevilla’s gaze. “I mean, no. Nothing’s wrong.” She felt she owned the red-eyed lioness an explanation but it took her a while to find the right words. And even then, she still hesitated. “I… I knew a pride. A long time ago.” Each step easier but each word more difficult than the last.

“It was an amazing place. The lions loved music and dance and beauty…” She could see it if she closed her eyes but fenja wouldn't dare it.

Vevilla paused and sat back on her haunches before giving her a smile. She sat near the lioness wanting to give her the time to move, giving her the option to do it herself instead of vevilla moving on with out her. She wanted to make the lioness feel comfortable. "Okay," she stated simply, making sure to give the lioness the chance to say what she wanted to. She didn't want to add any pressure. "Ah." She said simply as she nodded to the lioness. Once again she didn't want to pressure the lioness more by asking questions.

"So there are other prides of dance and music that is nice to know. Or at least there was." she paused for a moment as she looked at the lioness not that sure of what to say to her, she paused once again before speaking. "This pride has come a long way actually." She paused before nodding and speaking again. "There was a plague and almost everyone died. My grand mother was born durning the pride but made her way back when the pride was coming back." She paused and then chuckled some. "It grew back but it took some time, a lot of work. The music brought everyone back together."

Vevilla really was nice, the bright lioness thought to herself.

“It seems musical prides have no luck.” A plague? That sounded dreadful. She kept pacing forward, looking over her shoulder to see if Vevilla was following. She felt it was her time to share something. “The pride I’m talking about doesn’t exist anymore. All the lions had beautiful bright pelts and devoted all their time to the arts. When the poachers came, they didn’t have a chance. They were all killed.” She could see them even without closing her eyes now. And yes, her own pelt might be a dead giveaway but Fenja would rather not openly admit to have been part of her old pride. Actually, she was nearing her limit of “sharing time”.

“Prides need warriors, too. Strong warriors.” She said seriously. “The things we care about the most... sometimes we must fight to protect them.”

Vevi looked at the lioness and was glad to see that she was starting to feel a little more comfortable. She stood up and she started to wander toward the watering hole. She was very glad to see the lioness had calmed down. She didn't like the nervousness, she liked seeing the lioness calm because she didn't like anyone uncomfortable. "Ah, that sounds very interesting." She paused and thought able it for a moment. "we have mostly dark colors natural ones." She paused and felt a little bad. "I'm very sad to hear that happened to your pride." She shook her head, humans weren't good she knew that much for sure she really hated it but she knew that they were pretty safe, hidden away in the mountains and backed up by the neighboring pride.

"Strong Warriors are good." She paused and thought about it a moment and spoke her thoughts. "I'm pretty sure that we don't have warriors however on the other hand all of the males know how to fight." She paused and lifted her paw pointing in the distance. "And in between those mountains is another pride. They are surrounded by mountains." She looked over at the lioness as she continued to walk. "We are safe if something happens." She slowed down as they approached the black sanded shore of the lake. They were almost there, you could see the water.

"You know. If you even need a place to stay or feel like enjoying the music you are more then welcome." She paused once again and looked at the lioness with a smile and a grin. "We welcome others into the pride with open arms." She paused once again and thought for a moment she was glad that her pride was safe, she hoped that one day the other lioness could be safe.

Fenja listened intently, this time without making a sound. She looked around, realizing how nature itself could become a barrier protecting a pride and pondering on the additional safety provided by the proximity of an allied pride. It was logical, clever and the bright lioness liked it.

While she nodded quite firmly at the mention of males being taught to fight despite the inexistence of a rank devoted to that entire purpose, Fenja couldn’t help but wonder if maybe the females shouldn’t be given those lessons as well. Of course, living within the safety of a pride was much different from her usual life in the rogue lands where knowing a few tricks and being cautious wasn’t really an option.

“Maybe I will.” She said at last in an almost appeasing whisper though she had little interest of ever settling down. She would much rather continue walking in silence and her voice dropped even lower. She was smiling, not brightly but it was the honest and gentle smile of one who is too tired to use the appropriate pleasantries when knowing they’re asking for a favor. Right now Fenja didn’t really feel like being her usual social, bubbly self and was just avoiding anything that would keep the conversation going – and not just because her tongue and throat felt dry and rough when she spoke. “Thank you for the kind invitation.”
