Unfamiliar with this new stretch of woods, Bardán chose to explore today beneath the treetops. His dark figure blended in part with the shadows cast by the trees, but the sunlight that slipped through illuminated the brighter tones that marked him. His gaze was drawn upward toward the heavily flapping wings on his crow companion who flew now ahead of him to perch on a low branch and wait.
"Lazy bird." He called in warm amusement, earning a raucous caw of laughter. Shifting into a slow trot that was surprisingly light-footed considering his heavy build, Bardán moved more quickly to rejoin his feathered friend. Reaching the occupied tree he halted, lifting up his head to regard the crow who obligingly hopped from his perch to alight upon the stallion's horn, wings slightly mantled to better maintain balance. "Very lazy bird, expecting me to carry you." But the tone was affectionate, belying his words.

Overhearing a faint voice, Sakura dropped what she was doing (drinking from a small puddle) and perked her ears forward curiously. Listening intently, she could make out the harsh croak of a crow. Tilting her head to one side, she tried to pinpoint from which direction the sounds were coming from.
A faint, quick twittering sounded suddenly overhead, causing the mare to jump slightly. "Tinsel!" She scolded good-naturedly, allowing the bird to land upon her back. Her faithful familiar was never far away. The hummingbird fluttered down quickly, giving her tired wings a rest. Flying for too long was much too exerting for the small avian, so she preferred to perch upon her companion's back.
Sakura turned her mind back to the voices she'd heard before. "Should we go and say hello?" She speculated out loud, her voice light and thoughtful.

The moment was interrupted when the crow's attention was diverted, drawn by a flash of bright color. With another, low caw the bird launched from his temporary perch to investigate. Unknowingly he headed toward Sakura and Tinsel, unaware that the bright color he'd spotted was the smaller bird.
"Now what have you seen, Bran?" Accustomed to the curious nature of his crow familiar, Bardán paced after the crow, wondering what sparkly or colorful thing had caught the bird's attention. He had a hint when a voice reached his ears, words unintelligible at first. His ears flicked forward in interest, recognizing initially only that the stranger was female from the sound of the voice.
Bran saw them first. Discovering that the bright color he'd seen had led to discovering a bright toned mare and hummingbird, the crow alighted on a nearby branch and peered down at the pair. Hearing the bird's heavy wingbeats come to a halt not far ahead, Bardán was half prepared to come across strangers, but was surprised nonetheless when he shouldered past an obscuring, low-hanging branch and spotted Sakura. For a moment he blinked at her before he regained his composure and bowed his head in greeting. "Hello. I am sorry if I am intruding or if Bran is bothering you." As he raised his head again, the crow hopped down from his perch on the branch to land on the stallion's horn again.

Tinsel chirped back a happy answer, which Sakura interpreted as a yes. The little hummingbird could talk in a tongue that the mare would understand, but often preferred not to form speech. Instead, she made her opinions clear through her intonation, and through various bird calls that Sakura was slowly learning to understand.
A flash of dark wings appeared in the mare's peripheral vision, causing her to turn her head. She caught a glimpse of a myriad of colors, darkened by the blackness of the wing. The colors were more accents than anything else, yet they blended well together. Just as the bird alighted, the faint crunch of light footsteps upon the leafy floor drifted over to her ears.
Sakura caught only a brief look at the crow, linking him to the bird call she had heard before, before the owner of the footsteps became apparent. A heavy-set stallion walked onto the scene, decorated in all shades of blue and purple. He was an alicorn, like her, but without the distinctive uni tail. "Hello!" Her voice was joyful, her ears pointed forwards in the direction of the stranger curiously. "Bran? Is that the handsome little crow's name?" She chuckled slightly, her spirits soaring at the prospects of company, "And it is no intrusion."

Bardán spared Bran a mildly miffed glance before he gave his head a quick bob, upsetting the crow's balance so that the bird was forced to flare wide his wings or tumble from his perch. He caught the hint though, and hopped back onto the stallion's neck instead of sitting where his tail feathers were bound to get in the way. There he flipped his wings closed and voiced another caw of laughter, mocking his larger companion.
Ignoring the laughter and satisfied with Bran's new perch, Bardán focused again on Sakura, offering a pleased smile in response to the knowledge that she didn't mind them being there. "Yes, that is his name. And mine is Bardán. I'm glad we aren't bothering you, miss. May I inquire as to your name, and of your friend there?" He inclined his head toward Tinsel, vaguely amused at how she and the minute bird matched much the way he and Bran did. It intruiged him, as well, to note that she also shared the same sort of mixed heritage he and his siblings had, and displayed it differently than any of them.

The small hummingbird hopped curiously up to Sakura's neck, clutching onto the mare's mane with her tiny talons. She peaked around the side of her large plait, eying up the mysterious bird. He was big, at least compared to her, but he wasn't one of those mean hunting birds that had tried to eat her once.
Barely noticing the antics of her familiar, whose weight was so slight that it made no difference where she perched, Sakura watched the stallion curiously. He was polite, very polite, but friendly nonetheless. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Bardán! My name's Sakura, and the little buzzing thing on my back is Tinsel." The bird chirped a friendly call, hopping up higher so she could see the strangers better.
