Shiya stepped lightly not wanting to draw her family’s attention. While she was allowed out at night if her father knew she was meeting a boy he’d never let her go alone. Reaching the edge of the clearing that housed the teepee she stopped and looked back. There was no movement; no one appeared to have noticed her departure.
Starting down the path through the forest Shiya quickened her steps. She had left later then she had planned due to having to wait for her father to retire for the evening. Glancing up at the sky she was glad to see that the moon was nearly full. It was nice and bright out, she had no need to worry about missing a step or tripping over anything.
She slowed her pace as she neared the more heavily traveled area. No need for anyone to see her hurrying, it was unseemly.

Scull Cat paced among the trees in the clearing near where his family had made their home. He didn't mind the darkness around him since his horn gave off a faint glow. His pale yellow eyes scanned the ground as he walked.
The stallion paused and looked up. He thought he had heard hooves on the trail. Maybe the 'princess' had dared to come out at night. He had almost thought maybe she was just bluffing...

Shiya walked along enjoying the peacefulness of the night. She loved being out under the stars, it was the only time she felt like she didn’t have to uphold her grandmother’s ideals.
She stopped and looked around, she was certain this was the spot but she didn’t see anyone. Looking closely at the trees she blinked in surprise. There was a faint glow coming from them. “Skull Cat is that you?” she called softly.

Scull Cat stepped out into the moon light, smiling at the mare. "So you did come out to the woods. Aren't you afraid, princess?"
He stepped closer to her, then looked around. "Was it a long walk?"

Shiya scuffed at the suggestion that she would be afraid. “Ice tigers fear little and the forest isn’t one of them.” She glanced down at the ground giving a soft sigh. ‘Lighten up Shiya,’ she told herself sternly. “I do not fear the woods unless a kalona is about,” she said to the ground.
She looked back at him. “It was a bit long but I didn’t mind it. It’s so peaceful tonight.”

"You should consider the skinwalkers as well," SkullCat remarked. He seemed to shrug, "But this area is safe, or my family wouldn't live here."
The stallion nodded, "Did you have to sneak out?"

A light blush covered Shiya’s cheeks as she nodded. “My father is surprisingly strict when it comes to meetings with males. After all he doesn’t care if we go away for days but if we so much as mention a boy...” she let the sentence trail off exasperated at the memory of her father’s reaction that afternoon.
She looked up at the stars letting her mind calm. “Anything fun to do around here?” she asked curious.

The stallion tilted his head with an arched brow at Shiya's statement about her father, "So...he can break the rules, but you can't?"
Looking around the area, Skull Cat shrugged. "Well, there's swimming in the pond nearby....walking through the woods....talking..."
He shook his head, "No...I suppose not unless you know the area, and where not to trip. My brother and I used to play tag as children, and hide and seek."

Shiya wrinkled her nose at the mention of swimming. She disliked getting dirty and a pond was unlikely to be very clean. She took a deep breath of the fresh night air, “A walk sounds nice.” A wicked look crossed her face as she considered him, “Are you allowed to leave your home area at night?” she asked playfully.
She blinked, “I don’t believe I’ve ever played tag.” She looked away embarrassed. “That makes me weird doesn’t it? It’s not as if I don’t know what it is, I’ve just never seen the appeal of running around trying to catch someone just to have them start chasing you.”

SkullCat looked at the mare, "Of course I'm allowed out at night. My family is nocturnal. Besides, I'm an adult...I don't need permission to walk around."
He shrugged slightly, "Tag is exercise I guess. When you're young, it's a game. When you're older...still a game. Just depends on the rules, I guess."

‘The entire family is nocturnal? I didn’t think snow leopards were,’ Shiya mused quietly to herself. She shook her head bringing her thoughts back to the matter at hand. “Well then, there’s no reason we can’t enjoy this nice night by going for a walk.”
She gently flicked him with her tail as she walked pass. Stopping a little ways down the path she looked back at him. “Unless you don’t want to go, I’m sure we can find something else to do.” She could always go for a walk some other time but it would be nice to have company.

"A walk would be lovely," SkullCat replied, smirking at the tail flick. He stepped up to walk beside her. "There's a nice clearing down that path there to the right. Sometimes it's so full of fireflies that you can't tell which are the bugs and which are the stars. When the fireflies aren't out, you can see almost all the stars."

“It’s too bad it’s too early in the year for fireflies, it sounds like a beautiful sight,” Shiya said as she started down the mentioned path. She enjoyed stargazing but didn’t get to do it very often. “Do you like to stargaze Skull Cat?”

SkullCat nodded at the mare, following her. "I do. I often come out here to watch the stars....and chase fireflies when they're in season."
He walked up beside her, glancing at Shiya sideways. "How about you? You don't seem like you get out much after the sun has gone down."

Walking slowly so as not to trip Shiya considered how to answer. “I enjoy stargazing, it’s one of my favorite past times. Unfortunately you can’t see the stars very well from the teepee. When I was younger I had to sneak out if I wanted to really see them and now that I have permission to be out at night I go with Shimmer whenever I have a spare moment.” She laughed softly, “Which isn’t often with all my training, being a princess isn’t easy despite what people might think.”
