Damien would always wonder how amazingly fast the weather could do a 180 on you, favorable one minute, and miserable the next.
It was awhile since he moved into his dorm and settled all his items in their rightful place. Between all the moving, rearranging and the occasional furniture flipping, he needed a break from it. He flopped onto his bed with an aggravated sigh and his arm covering his eyes from the bright unpainted wall the hurt his eyes. The air was too stuffy in here, it was just too unbearable, and his shirt was practically sticking to his form like a second skin. He managed to peek out from tired eyes to see that the sky was clear and a pleasant breeze was wafting in like a welcomed hug.
“It just might be a great time for a walk.” He thought to himself, it’s not like he needed the extra cardio, but looking at the table that sat by the door in an awkward position, he was not ready to take on that beast again. A nice head clearing afternoon walk it is then was what he decided on.
He didn’t want to give his brain a chance to reconsider as he hopped over the pile of unsorted and unfolded clothes and rushed out of his room into the main hallway of the Monster dorm hall, already feeling better from the less stagnant air around him.

Upstairs in those same dorms, Aksaja was also feeling rather closed in and unsettled this afternoon. He could feel the changes in pressure outside, the coming storm. And though normally he might have welcomed such a thing . . . right now, all the impending weather made him think of was his father. The storm dragon, the bane of his young existence . . . the one who's voice he had heard in that damned fog, telling him how utterly useless he was.
With a low snarl, the dragon shook his head to banish such thoughts and padded over to the cave-like exit that led outside the dorms. Taking a deep breath, Aksaja simply leapt off the edge, wings tucked in close at first so that he plummeted in a dive, air whistling about him. At almost the last second, he snapped wings out and soared upwards into the sky . . . though it wasn't long before he was flying nearer to the ground again.
With how charged the air was, it wouldn't be at all surprising if the first few lightning bolts of the storm found him rather than the ground, or some hapless tree. And though he was a lightning dragon, he wasn't exactly powerful enough to handle something like a fully charged bolt slamming into him just now.

The hallways had the same old hustle and bustle of both human and monstrous bodies stomping through its well trodden path, nothing that warranted a second glance As Demi weaved his way through the crowds into the open space outside the dorm. He rather preferred walking about in the human form that the student pin provided him, it was much easier than looking out from the world behind two sets of eyes much less a form that allowed for easier movement than his lumbering canine figure. Human legs, who knew?
The air had a good breeze this fine day with a healthy amount of overcast he thought. A pleasant day for a stroll and maybe a nice jog. Nothing too exhausting for now, there was much still left to do, and a nap was sadly, not on the list of activities. He was all ready to take that crucial first step when the shill sound of a whistle came from above. The hell hounds ears twitched into a better position to hear the high pitched sound that was borderline painful for those with sensitive hearing, It was enough to send one into a whimpering fit. Just as soon as it started that sound abruptly faded but before the demon dog could thank Jack for the relief, the looming shadow feel over him like the clouds itself were threatening to fall upon him.
With started eyes he looked up at whatever doom was going to land on his face as a dragon shot out with its wings unfurled and caught the air and began its powerful rise back into the sky. Flight was always something that intrigued the boil, seeing as how he had no other choice to stay close to the ground. There was a few times where he jumped off a cliff just to get the experience of flight, before gravity showed him who was boss, and showed it with extreme, violent prejudice.
Demi’s eyes refocused on the flying beast as it soared around and decided to treat it like a Frisbee, give chase as one foot moved in front of the other, his effort to catch up in a mad dash the only way he could, on solid land. It was getting tougher to see the path that lay ahead of him which was a surprise, wasn’t it fairly bright not too long ago? He could have sworn it was, but after another look skyward, all that greeted him was dark, rolling clouds, the smell that accompanied heavy rainfall finally registered in his brain.
It was going to rain buckets in a moment, and the dragon was still out here, was it even possible that he did not know the weather took a turn for the worse? He couldn’t turn around and head back without warning him at the very least right? Pushing the awkward feelings aside he ran up to keep pace with the dragons and called out. “Hey, you know it’s going to rain soon, right?” Tap tap tap, he felt the random beats of water against his fur that was slowly becoming faster.
“Uh correction, that it’s going to rain right now?” Smooth Damien, very smooth. It was plain to see that tomorrow he was going to have a cold. The canine couldn’t keep the look of joy off his face with a deep scowl marring his features. What Joy.

Aksaja blinked when someone quite suddenly called up to him from below. Who cared if it was going to rain, he was enjoying his flight . . . but then, another memory of his father intruded and the dragon shuddered. Dammit. All right, maybe he didn't really want to fly around in the middle of a storm.
Then the rain started. Abruptly, Aksaja turned in a tight circle on a wingtip and headed for the ground, managing a neat sort of landing directly in front of the other boil. He wasn't someone the lightning dragon had seen around before, which was . . . actually something of a relief. Maybe this could be a nice distraction from his thoughts about that damn island.
"I noticed," he replied a bit wryly, glancing upwards as the raindrops increased both in size and number, quickly becoming something more like a curtain of water than what one generally thought of as "rain". Now they were both soaked, greaaat. Aksaja wrinkled nose. "Well, that's just awesome. I knew the storm was coming but . . . I didn't expect it to come up so fast. Were you following me just to warn me?"

A light drop or two quickly turned to four, then ten, and 32 and 149. It didn’t take very long for a torrential downpour to happen, soaking Damien right down to the bone. Yep, there was a cold practically waiting for him the next day, his human nose itched for a sneeze.
The dragon really looked like he belonged in the sky, even in this weather, in fact especially in this type of weather. It was something about the mute colors of the sky that made the boil stand out more. Watching him land on the ground made it feel like a crime to cause him to stop. “AH, yeah I thought the same thing, it wasn’t so cloudy before and all of a sudden, this.” He said while holding out his hands palms facing up to form a cup as raindrops dashed their way into the makeshift bowl in a splatter. He broke open the bowl and watched the contents spill out onto the ground in a wet plop that couldn’t be heard over the resounding pattering of raindrops meeting said surface.
Damien had to talk a little bit louder over the heavy rainfalls to be heard. “And yeah, I was following you, in case you were going to be taken by surprise as well, I suppose I didn’t think that out too well eh? It really did feel like a failed effort, in the end they both got soaked after all. “So I guess the rain doesn’t bother you as much?”

Aksaja made a bit of a face at that, swiping a hand through his now-wet bangs to get them to move to one side again, like they should be. "Well, maybe not as much as it does somebody with . . . fur, or whatever," he replied after a moment, raising a brow slightly at the clearly canid boil. Sometimes, he rather liked flying in storms, taking the risks and chasing the lightning.
But not just now . . . not after that damned fog. Maybe in a month or two. Or a year, or something. Glancing around, he suddenly seemed to realize just how far they were from the dorms. In point of fact, he'd managed to fly almost all the way to the road that led off campus and out toward the town. Which meant the closest shelter of any kind was likely to be the building all the classrooms were in, though he had no idea if it would be open this time of day.
But the other boil looked pretty miserable, so the lightning dragon abruptly turned and started walking that way. "Name's Aksaja, by the way," he tossed over his shoulder.

Damien wouldn’t lie about it; the feel of water sticking his clothes to his body was about just as unpleasant as the same treatment to fur. The second skin sensation was just awkward and uncomfortable in some areas. He had to pout at the thought of not being able to shake the errant bead of waters off his body for once.
It wasn’t just the rain that was bothering him, but the heavy overcast above, it was just far too similar to the fog that served as a constant reminder to the trip that he was still trying to shake off. It was indeed getting better with each passing day but the chance for a relapse wasn’t that far above them. The hellhound watched as the dragon set out onto a path nearby, to be perfectly honest, he wasted no time keeping step with him; anyplace barring the island, was better than staying in their current situation.
At least knowing that the boil had a name made the demon dog feel a little better, as his tail did a little swish at the tidbit of information. “Nice to meet ya, I’m Damien.” He said with a light tone to his voice. “You’re the second Dragon I met that goes to this institution, what’s it like to fly?” He asked gently, trying to not say anything to upset the one who was leading the both of them to hopefully drier ground.
Note to self: Study the school map before running off.

"Oh, you met Jericho . . . ? Or one of the others?" Aksaja asked, glancing over at the other. Jack, he really did look pretty damn miserable, all wet like that. Considering for a moment, the lightning unfurled a single wing and kind of . . . stretched it out over the top of Damien like an odd sort of umbrella.
But how to explain flying . . . ? Hmm. "Well uhm. D'you ever just run really really fast on the ground? It's a little like that, but faster, and better. And in three dimension." He trailed off. "It's hard to describe. Maybe sometime when the weather's not all stupid, I'll take you up if you want."
Just then, lightning flashed far too close for comfort - actually shattering a tree not ten feet away from them. Oops, maybe they should go a bit faster.

Damien’s brow furrowed as he rolled the name he mentioned over and over in his mind. Jericho. Flashes of red scales and gold eyes came up to the surface like a lure bobbing up to the surface as the look of realization dawned on him. “Yes, that red dragon, it was during the island trip. Would that make you a Yellow dragon…. Aksaja, was it?” He said timidly, hoping that it was his name and not a grave error. With that kind of wingspan, it would seem easy to smack the demon dog upside the head just as easily he made it into a shield from the rain. The momentary relief from the rain was a blessing as the excess rain not trapped in his clothing ran down his boots in little rivers. “Thanks for the cover.”
He paused to think about the feeling that he got whenever he ran around the woods, the whipping air rushing past and the sights becoming nothing more than a blue of colors. Safe to say it was an exhilarating sensation that would make him shiver from head to toe. “Are you serious? Ever better than that?” The hellhound asked the dragon with unrestrained shock and awe. It was something that made his heart race. “Maybe one day I’ll try it, whenever it’s good with you, I’d feel rather bad about being dead weight on your flight.” He was ready to ask a few more questions about the magic of flying when the sky he always thought was too far away, let a bolt rip its way down to the ground and splitting a tree that wasn’t far from them. Demi was sure the flying could wait for now as he felt the boil nearby picking up his pace.
“Candlejack, that was just way too close! You fly out in this kind of weather?”

Geez, what was this misconception with dragons being categorized by colors? At least 'yellow' was a little closer than blue. "No I'm not a, uhm. Yellow dragon," he replied, with a bit of a wince. "Jericho comes from somewhere different than I do." He frowned even as they ran, glancing back at the shattered tree.
"In fact, I'm pretty sure all the dragons around here come from different places. I'm a lightning dragon," he went on with a quick grin. "Which means yea . . . I can fly around in this weather if I really want to. I can sorta feel the bolts charging up so I can avoid them up there." On the ground, such a thing was harder to do. Most times, the storm-flying was exciting, but . . . so soon after that damned island and it's fog, the storm was actually making him nervous.
Dammit. He couldn't let it affect him so much. It didn't do any good at all, and it meant that his father's words had gotten to him. Even if it was a crazy hallucination.

"Flying around in this?" Damien asked incredulously. he couldn't even fathom the idea of flying to begin with, much less in non-optimal conditions. "That takes balls man. I wouldn't even go for a run in a storm like this." he continued with a curt nod. "Never know what could happen."
The sound of rainfall was heavy around them as the momentary silence went on. "So, you have a special affinity with lightning, whats it like? It was so strange to the hound, someone being the attuned to an element. The rainstorm was momentarily forgotten about and in its place was astonishment and wonder.

Finally, they reached the overhang in front of one of the school buildings, and Aksaja ducked under it, pressing back against the wall a bit to make room for the other boil. "It's . . . hard to explain," he answered slowly, not trying to put off the question, but just attempting to choose words carefully. "Kinda like. Hmn. You ever felt something in your bones, that you knew to be true? Like, that a certain day was gonna be a good one, or that something you found was really cool, or valuable? Even without knowing for 'sure'. Just feeling it." Geez, he was bad at this.
"I can . . . feel the lightning sorta like that, I guess. Sorry it's a lame explanation."

The little bit of dry shelter from the rain was like a jacksent gift to the hound as he hunkered in next to the dragon and out of the rainfall. He gave the boil a nod from his description , getting the concept of what he was trying to say. "Like instinct, its a gut feeling, right?" he said before elaborating for his rain trodden friend. "I get that too when i go digging, even if I cant see it, you can just tell somethings underneath the surface."
He gave the lightning dragon a light pat on the shoulder. "Nah, it was a good explanation Aksaja, now if only you could figure out a way to get indoors we'd be set." he barked back, looking around the corner for a door or at least an unmanned umbrella they could use.

Aksaja frowned slightly and nodded at that - though he was happy that apparently his explanation did make some kind of sense to the other. "Well, nothing is open but the dorms," he murmured, squinting just a bit through the storm. "And they're way the Jack over there. Only thing I can think of is makin' another run for it."
He sighed softly and leaned back against the door, flicking a bit of rain off his wings and tail. He'd have no problem making it back . . . as he would probably just fly from here, which was faster than running. But he couldn't just leave Demi.

The rain chose that moment to pour down with more intensity, as droplets marred the view of the rapidly drenching landscape with a blur that only a sheet of rain could provide. The hound just frowned at their predicament and gave the other boil a careful look. The structure did indeed keep them dry, or at least drier than before, but it was only temporary. They needed to get back to the dorms, and going on foot would only mean a slow trek back.
"But you can fly, Aksaja." he pointed out carefully after a moment. "And you say that you could sense the lightning strikes and have a better chance to dodge them." he said out loud, trying to use the time to pull his erratic thoughts together.
"If you had the ability to carry an extra passenger, we could get out of this much sooner." he wasn't sure why he said it, or even thought about it, but it was worth a shot.
It was better than turning into his natural form and running back with that wet dog smell. His nose crinkled up in disdain at the mere thought of it.
