There are a lot of couples mentioned in Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling but there are two that come to mind really makes you stop and feel sorry for the characters involved...real tear jerkers. First off is the relationship between Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin. They each join the Order of the Phoenix and fall in love with one another but Remus deliberately ignores his love for her because he's a werewolf and he fears that he is too dangerous for her. Eventually though he marries her and gets her pregnant he once again let his fears resurface because he's afraid that his son will acquire his werewolf bloodline. Because of this fear he leave her and just when he finally comes to his senses they die in the line of battle during the Second Wizarding War at the Battle of Hogwarts. Yes it is very tragic but there is an even more tragic relationship that really gets the tears running.

The underestimated 'almost' relationship between Severus Snape and Lily Evans...later on Potter.

Snape was the first ever person to tell Lily that she was a witch and taught her all about the magical world and about her being a witch. They were looking forward to being in Hogwarts together and remained best friends even though he was sorted into Slytherin and she was sorted into Gryffindor. He began to study the dark arts because he wanted to become a Death Eater and that was to be his sort of downfall. There was another that loved Lily as much as he did and would often fight for her affections but James Potter was a rich and rebellious boy that liked to bully others for a past time. His favorite person to make fun of was Snape and one day Lily stood up for him only to be called a Mudblood. or a dirty blood, because he parents were Muggles. non-wizard folk. Snape asked to be forgiven and she asked him if he was still going to be a Death Eater and when he couldn't deny it she said, "It can not be helped. You chose your path and I chose mine." That was the end of an almost perfect relationship and in Lily's seventh year at Hogwarts she became Head Girl and James Potter became Head Boy and became a couple.

His feelings for her didn't end there however. Yes Snape did become a death eater and when he overheard the prophecy about the one that would destroy the dark lord he told Voldemort about it right away and when he found out that it was about Lily Potter and her family he told Dumbledore right away thus earning the older man's trust to be the mole sort of speak within the Death Eaters. He had then personally gone to Voldemort and asked him to spare her life and Voldemort gave in to his request and told her that she can live if she just handed over her son. She became the willing sacrifice needed to protect her son Harry for all the years that he had been protected thanks to Snape even though he never wanted her to die.

There is clear evidence that Harry Potter reminds him a lot of Lily and his hatred towards him is indeed perhaps a form of sadness from the loss. Several times he protected him throughout his time at Hogwarts and beyond. Snape protected him his during his first year when Quirrel was cursing his broom. Snape made an attempt to protect him in the Prisoner of Azkaban, and in Order of the Phoenix he taught him how to control his own mind so that the dark lord wouldn't get in. Also when Dumbledore asked him if he still loved her after all this time is answer was always.

I've been thinking about what if Snape had not joined the death eaters. Would Lily Evans have become Lily Snape instead after falling in love with him rather then James? If Harry had ended up being his kid then he could have still protected Lily and she still would have been the willing sacrifice still as well but who would have raised him? The dark lord had fallen that night so maybe Snape could have raised the kid himself but eventually the dark lord does return...what would have protected him then other then Dumbledore and Harry's three friends? Snape would have had to send his son away to live with then but still the story would have been different. Either way.....it was a romance that I'm sad didn't happen....

I think Neville's parents are the most admirable, tragic, and underrated couple, actually. They had as much to lose as anyone else and didn't even get the mercy of death.

Lily and Severus never would have happened, I am quite sure, even if James didn't exist and Snape hadn't become a Death Eater. Even with as little insight into their personalities as there is, it's quite clear that they would have been a mismatch at best romantically. It's much easier to be friends with contrasting personalities than it is to be lovers with the same issue.

I love Remus and Tonks. I just hate how they did them in the movie.

Same with Harry and Ginny. I think they totally ruined Ginny in the 6th movie and she didn't get much better in the 7th. I wished they would of still had the who quiddicth final kiss.

Snape and Lily to me are just friends, nothing more.

Ugh! I hate Harry with Ginny, I still want him to be with Cho. I swear, the only reason I forgave that was because Harry belongs in the Weasley family.

Also, I really didn't care that much when the Lupins died. Mostly just felt sorry for their son, what kind of parent chooses to leave their infant to risk their lives? I don't care how noble the cause is, that's just messed up. It's not like there weren't others there to fight the Death Eaters.

I know! Harry and Ginny......I just never liked it. I think it's the one thing in the book series that I didn't like.

I didn't mind Remus' death all that much too. I love him and all but I saw it comin'. I feel bad for Teddy too, it's really to bad Tonks died too.

Huh... so who gets to raise Teddy? I think Harry would want to, being able to sympathize as an orphan, but at the same time, his emotions like to get in the way of a lot of things.

I tought Harry became his godfather and Teddy's grandparents raised him, if I remember well.

That is what happened... In my opinion Harry/Ginny wasn't too bad but I hate Cho so I'm happy they didnt end up together.... As for Remus and Tonks, when they died I was crying, yes Remus was being a total idiot when he said he was willing to leave Tonks and Teddy but he was just scared.... And Snape/Lily is a no go for me because Lily thought of Snape as a brother figure since she was stuck with Petunia. I don't know I just got that vibe from them....

Andromeda Tonks raised Teddy.Which is his grandmother/Tonk's mother.

It's noted in the epilogue that Teddy comes over to Harry's house a lot though.

Well, I'm a die hard Severus/Lilly fan. I love the idea and, by default, I love fanfiction....

I'm a hardcore Severus/Lily Evans fan as well. I have as serious thing for characters like Snape who had it hard getting a happy ending. Plus he truly loved her and that won him huge points in my book. It even gave me one of my favorite pieces of dialogue from the entire book when Dumbledore asked "After all this time Severus?" and he says "Always."

Though I really hated the pairings from the epilogue and those she released in later interviews. Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione are two of the ships that I absolutely loathe. I would have much preferred Harry and Hermione to have gotten together in the end. They really fit together and cover one another's flaws. I was found George/Angelina to be a tad odd because because of Fred.

I really love the Severus/Lilly pairing. I think it was the only and best pair out of the entire series! Harry/Ginny truly and utterly agitated me because it seems like its telling young girls "see? If you stalk someone enough and hero worship you'll always get him in the end!" I was much better with the Ginny/Dean pairing even if they were "always fighting". Ron/Hermione I saw coming and don't really see a problem with. Harry/Cho annoys me because I honestly just don't like her. I guess if I had to choose a girl from the series it would be Luna. She seems to have as much (and value) intelligence as Hermione the only difference being she thinks outside the box and is unique in all things which is what Harry needs. He doesn't need any more straight and arrow: 1) defeat Voldemort 2) marry Ginny 3) have children and name them the most expected names from his character all except Albus Severus. 4) die happy. Really?? After all that was expected from him Harry deserves to go snorkling for Crumple Hornshacks for the rest of his life with Luna and their children Artemis, Mathias, Willow and Albus. Ginny can go and marry Neville and live happily in his greenhouse.
