Breath flared through seal brown nostrils, the only escape as the lion's mouth was filled with the bristling fur and supple flesh of his kill. A adolescent boar almost too large for a male to carry. Too bad nobody had told Fuuenken, not that the stubborn young wildcat would have listened worth much a damn anyway. He was invincible after all and even the small pack of hyenas that were ominously following in his lonesome shadow didn't cause him to flinch one bit.
If they were interested in the kill that he had worked for, they they would have to pry it from his cold, dead jaws. That's to say they could.
Fuuen knew better though, should they have taken him on, they would have known a battle like nothing they had ever seen. It was more a matter of pride than the flesh of his meal that he protected. How dare some dirty rag-tag cluster of outcasts think him such an easy target. The only thing that had spared their lives thus far was the fact that they hadn't yet dared to attempt to close in on him to steal the fresh carcass that dangled from bloodied maw.
The fur along his spine ridged with annoyance and his tail gave off a twitch-like tick that suggested his impatience with them. After having to spend the night prior alone and with this night looking as if he were in for much of the same fate, he was hardly in any mood to be tested. Drilling a growl of warning into the tender meat that failed to muffle the sound, much to the surprise of no one.
The land was open, except for the face of a small cliff which was rapidly approaching, easily climbed by the jutting outcrops of rocky edges which surrounded it like footholds. Yet there didn't seem to be anyone around. Not a single soul to share his meal with.. well, except for the scavengers at his back, but really. Fuu didn't much feel like sharing with them given that it was far too likely he would get nothing out of it.
