Personality: Preferably, Scarlet likes to do things on her own and to be able to care for herself. Since she has spent years helping her mother care for the house and also looking after her little brother, Scarlet has grown used to the idea of being independent. If she is forced to go to the market by herself or is cornered by thieves, she is not afraid of dealing with the problem on her own. Over the years, Scarlet has accumulated a surprising amount of strength and wit to keep herself afloat while living with her elderly parents. However, she is also not appalled by the idea of receiving help. She acknowledges the fact that certain situations call for assistance, even from people she loathes.
She loves to be playful and mischievous. Her tone can be very lighthearted and relaxed. She likes to have fun, especially by teasing people or playing small tricks on her friends, such as altering plans or act in a way that riles others up. Scarlet has an eye for shining things and impulsively swipes them before people can notice. She often dons a billowing cloak, which makes it easy for her to hide the items she has stolen. When she does get caught, she tries to act her way through, such as fabricating a sob story or using the pretext that she did not realize what she had been doing, similar to being a sleepwalker. When someone sees through her pretenses, she will grudgingly fess up and take whatever punishment is given to her. Afterwards, if she sees the involved people again, Scarlet will try to avoid them as much as possible. She loves to reminisce about the good times, but always tries to forget about the negative aspects of her past.
Appearance: Scarlet has dusty, orange-brown hair. It’s somewhat messy with various strands poking out, but is not as noticeable because she ties it in a ponytail that brushes her shoulders. Her bangs often get in the way of her light blue eyes, but she’s grown used to it. Scarlet has a soft, heart-shaped face. Her chin and jaws are soft and rounder than a regular heart face, making her seem younger and more childish. She also has a beauty mark to the outer side and below her left eye.
History: Scarlet and her younger brother were raised in a small town in Mishkan. Her mother was a housewife that made clothes as a side job, but mainly focused on keeping the house in order and tending to the tiny garden in the back of their house. Her father, on the other hand, was an inventor that focused on creating new farming inventions and methods that would yield more crops. He would hole himself up in his workshop or dig around the garden as he tested out his ideas. Once he polished his invention he would travel to the market or travel to the farms nearby. If the farmer could not pay in gold, then they would pay with animals or materials, such as wood, which Scarlet’s father would sell or incorporate into his inventions.
Usually, Scarlet helped her mother cook and clean while her brother, Carnelian, stayed with her father and learned about farming. But when Scarlet finished her chores she always begged her mother to let her join Carnelian and her father. After imploring her mother every day, Scarlet was finally allowed to join her brother and father in the garden when she completed her work. She spent most of her childhood in the garden with her brother. Both of them grew to love plants and soil, and their shared love allowed the siblings to become incredibly affectionate with the other. What one sibling would keep a secret from their parents or friends they would eagerly tell the other sibling.
That was why she was delighted when Carnelian told her—and no one else—his new dream to join the Imperial Guard. When he saw the discipline and power of the army, he knew he wanted to join that group. Scarlet was ecstatic and pleased to know that only she knew Carnelian’s dream, so she took it upon herself to raise her little brother as someone sturdier and ready to enlist in the guard. She dragged her brother out of the house so they could perform mini-missions together, such as climbing trees or catching birds. At first, Scarlet didn’t like doing them, but for Carnelian’s sake she got her hands dirty. Over the years, she grew accustomed to causing mischief and even grew to like creating a bit of trouble.
After Carnelian joined the Imperial Guard, Scarlet quickly decided to enlist as well. She could not bear the thought of being away from her beloved brother and feared for his safety. Scarlet joined the artillery—like Carnelian—and watched after him like a worried mother.
Since he was a young lad now, he didn’t come to appreciate it very much. |

Item history: When Carnelian first joined the Imperial Guard, she followed and excessively mothered him. She affectionately ruffled his hair and always nagged him about eating properly and looking after himself, although Carnelian could have easily said the same thing to her. Her motherly antics vexed him, but he didn’t say much about it. But after months of dealing with Scarlet’s obsessive behavior, Carnelian finally snapped. After archery practice, he berated Scarlet while they walked towards the market. Scarlet snapped back, and the conversation transformed into a heated argument. Before their argument could escalate into a physical fight, someone screamed. Both siblings stumbled backwards as a lad tore between them. While Carnelian immediately chased after him while drawing his bow, Scarlet lingered behind.
She had seen the dark splotches across the boy’s neck.
Panicked, Scarlet ran after the two, but both of the boys were too quick for her to catch up to. By the time she found Carnelian, he was already being carted off to the doctor and the other boy had disappeared. Her face pale, she observed the crime scene. An arrow and a bow, along with a rusty knife, were strewn across the street. Both weapons were covered in dark red. Scarlet bent down to pick up the bow, careful to avoid the blood she assumed was the nameless boy’s. She took it with her.
When the doctor told her Carnelian had died from the plague and his wounds, she cradled the now-clean bow tightly. If her brother could no longer move up the Imperial Guard ranks, she would do it for him. If her brother could no longer use his bow to shoot another arrow, she would use it for him.
Personality: The trait that people often point out about Archer is that he is quiet. He usually does not speak, and when he does, he does not say much. Unless it is a close friend or comrade, it is difficult to get more than a few sentences out of the Plague. His silence makes it easy for Archer to blend into his surroundings and observe others. He does not mind. Rather, he enjoys being able to watch other people go about their daily lives. His tendency to be in the background has shaped him into an individual that does not need as much attention as others may require. Small things, such as compliments or tiny gifts are enough to satisfy Archer.
He may come across as uncaring, but he cares about his Grimm and his friends, though he tries not to show it. He especially takes care of Scarlet because he sees her as not only his Grimm, but as his (often whimsical and careless) master. Whenever Scarlet is in his sight, Archer pays extra attention to her. When he sees her trying to steal, he quietly berates her and also scolds Scarlet on her inability to not be responsible enough.
While Scarlet is the type to most likely have her head in the clouds and to have fun, Archer firmly has his feet on the ground. If he is given a task he will make sure to complete it without fail and without distractions. Archer takes his responsibilities seriously and also strives to help his Grimm and comrades to do the same. When they are straying from the task at hand, he curtly guides them back. |
