He'd been living in the apartment for a couple of months now, and hadn't had any luck finding a roommate. It was disappointing; Sebastian had promised his parents he'd be able to find one within a week, which had become a month, which had turned into 'soon'. They were starting to get a little agitated, so he'd put up another flyer at DCU with tear-off strips that had his cell phone number listed. This late in the school year, however, there weren't many takers.
He'd rejected someone who was probably selling drugs (and using their product), as well as an overly bro-tastic football player. There had been some tentative but promising calls about maybe for the fall semester, which left him open to another couple of months of parental nagging.
Sebastian had half-heartedly considered asking one of his friends about rooming with him, even temporarily, but everyone he knew already had an apartment or somewhere to live, hence putting the ad up.
So when his phone started buzzing in his pocket while he was reading, the last thing Sebastian expected to talk about with his friend was the apartment. "Matthew? What's up?"

To say that Matthew had a problem was probably an understatement at this point.
With the end of the school year, he had been expecting his roommate to go back upstate for the summer, as had been the case for the last two years. It was bad enough to try to puzzle out rent for a appartment this size on his own for three months, but he usually managed,
This year, however, was different. Sure, he was going back upstate... in a much more permanent fashion. He'd gotten his transfer cleared out weeks ago but only thought to inform Matthew a few days ago.
a*****e. In a way, it was good riddance. On the flip-hand, this was a little problematic. Scratch that, very problematic. There was no way he could manage rent for this apartment on his own. He'd counted everything in every angle, and it was simply impossible on the long-term. Finding roommate at this time of the year was an exercise in futility. He could hold on until the fall semester... maybe... but he was reticent to sign a new bail on his lonesome.
His options were to magically pull a roommate out of his a**, move out to another apartment, or go back to his parents. The middle option was very attractive, really - his landlord had always been an a*****e. The last option... well, as much as he loved his parents... He really didn't want to move back in.
He had been in the middle of another attempt to count his budget to see if the numbers had magically changed when it occured to him. Sebastian. Sebby. He'd moved out a few months back, and last they'd talked he was still looking for a roommate.
Could he really be this lucky ? Well, one way to find out. And it was now. "Sebby ? Hey, you busy ? I need to talk to you real quick."
All the while making a quick prayer. God, if it didn't work, he was so boned.

"No, I was just uh," he replied with a pause while he tried to remember if he had any homework due, "reading," he continued, pretty sure there wasn't something hanging over his head this late in the year. "Did something happen?" Sebastian asked, sandwiching the phone between his ear and his shoulder while he fumbled around for a bookmark to use instead of his thumb. Naomi Drake was a librarian and had trained her son not to dog-ear pages.
Finally he found napkin to shove in place, dropping the book on the sofa and grabbing the phone in one hand again. He was trying to think of a reason for Matthew to have called him and was at an utter loss. Well, hopefully it wasn't anything too serious.

"Well, kinda..."
There was the sound of shuffling on the other side, as Matthew no doubt turned his computer chair to face his computer monitor. "I mean... nothing serious, no one's dead or anything." This was Destiny City - better to clarify.
"But my roommate - you know, the a*****e ? Yeah. He's bailing back upstate to finish his degree. I can't pay for this place all on my own right now, and beside the landlord's an a*****e too and uh I really don't wanna move back home..."
Yeah.
"So yeah, did you find a roommate yet ? 'Cause if you didn't..."

He was in the middle of running a hand through his hair as Matthew explained what had happened and it froze there once his friend asked about the roommate situation. "Wait, what?" Sebastian asked intelligently. "You want to move in here?" He paused, trying to corral his thoughts into some semblance of coherency.
"I uh, no, I haven't found a roommate yet," he continued, not very doing well with the whole coherency issue. "Did you want to, um, you haven't seen the new place yet have you? Maybe you should come over and take a look, I think it's smaller than what you have right now but uh, that'd be the perfect solution for both of us if you really did move in here."
Babbling to try and fill in conversation? Check.

"Well, I was thinking about it." Sebby's tone was rather startled - was it such an odd thought ? "I mean, I can't pay rent on this thing on my own, not in the long term anyway. I think it's probably beyond both of us too. Beside, the landlord is an a*****e. The shower's been leaking for six months now."
"I could drop by sometime, yeah. Most of the s**t in here was the roommate's, so most of the stuff you've seen last time you've been over is gone." The apartment felt so damn empty, really. It was a wonder his voice didn't echo. "Pretty sure he nabbed some of my games too..."
But this was the least of Matthew's problems for the moment.

He was nodding his head as Matthew iterated the points that made this such a good idea; not that his friend could see that, of course. "Hah, I remember when it broke," Sebastian said with a snort of disgust. That was just lazy and bad business, leaving something like that unrepaired for such a long time.
"Well, uh, if you wanted to stop by, just give me a call or whatever? I can order pizza and we can talk more about all of it," he continued, mostly ignoring the comments about the roommate. Matthew's former roommate had been...well. The less said about him the better, really.

"It's so damn disgusting." Seriously. No matter how he cleaned... Ngh. Matthew had a soapbox on this - but he saw no need to get on it.
"I could come right now ? Hell, I'll bring the pizza." He shrugged. The subject of the roommate was promptly dropped - these two had never gotten along, not that Matthew would blame Sebastian for it.

"Perfect," Sebastian said happily. He hadn't planned anything to eat (said planning consisting of staring at his freezer or a list of take out menus), and Matthew coming over neatly solved that particular problem.
"Lemme give you the address, and vague directions on how to get to the apartment complex," he continued with a small laugh. People didn't really give out directions anymore, what with the ready availability of the Internet map services, or even GPS devices. Sebastian was pretty sure Matthew had a smartphone with built in GPS.
He quickly rattled off the address and apartment number, as well as the directions (along the lines of 'turn at this landmark' which was perhaps not so good). "See you in a few, then?"

He noted the address and the number down, but not the direction. Yeah, he was more than happy to let the GPS in his cellphone do the job for him on that regard.
"Be around in... 20 with the pizza." There was no need to ask what topping - he'd gone out for pizza with Sebastian more times that he'd cared to count.
It was more like 30 minutes, thanks to the traffic, but there was eventually a knock on his door, and Matthew with said pizza on the other side. "Sorry... Traffic jammed a bit. The pizza's still hot, through !"

Sebastian had, rather typically, gone back to reading his book while waiting. Fortunately for his friend, he hadn't gotten sucked into it and was paying enough attention to the outside world that he answered the door on the second knock.
"Hot, cold, as long as it's here," he said with the sort of cheerful grin that only a college student could muster when it came to food. "And you too, I guess," he added with a quick smile to take any sting out of the words; picking at each other was kind of a hobby by this point.
"Kitchen slash dining area is over this way." Waving a hand in the general direction of the kitchen, which was easily visible from the front door, Sebastian followed Matthew, hooking a chair out with one leg and collapsing into it. "You're a lifesaver. Tour after food, promise."

"Yeah, I guess !" Matthew didn't seem too bothered, really, stepping inside with the pizza in tow, following his friend inside.
"Hmmm..." He let the pizza on the table. "So far it looks pretty good to me." Better than his apartment, after all. The kitchen was so tiny that there couldn't be two people in it at once. On the flipside the living room was huge, but it didn't quite make up for it in Matthew's opinion.
He pulled out his own chair and opened the box, forgoing plates completely to grap a slice. "Crap, I forgot drinks. You got that, right ?"
If not, he could step back out real quick.

"Plus the shower works," Sebastian added around a mouthful of pizza, not able to resist another dig at Matthew's current apartment. "Uh, yeah," he continued, swallowing while standing up.
"Water, various kinds of soda, milk that I wouldn't trust," he stated after opening the door to the fridge and staring at Matthew over the top of the door. "Mt. Dew, of course, which magically appears in here." This was said with a relatively straight face; Sebastian was trying to cut back on his caffeine intake by cutting out his beloved Mt. Dew, but it was an uphill battle when practically everyone around you was drinking it.

"Yeah, and the shower works." Matthew just laughed. "That's always a nice thing."
And there Sebastian was offering someone who basically lived on tea to move in - this... might actually help with the whole caffeine thing ? "Just water, then ? I should get you some iced tea..."
And tea in general. Oh, hell yes he should. And would.

"Probably some instant tea around, if you want," Sebastian offered, closing the fridge door after grabbing the pitcher of filtered water he tried to keep full. Two glasses were found, water was poured, and he sat back down while placing them on the table.
"So," he said after a moment and a few more bites of pizza, "If you did move in, how soon would we be talking?"
