It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining high in the sky, there was a minimal number of clouds, the temperature was perfect... And there were only a few more weeks of classes, which meant homework, papers, projects, and tests to study for. Being the very studious person that he was, Inigo was doing none of these things, instead opting to spend time outside around the forest as per his usual habits when he wasn't absorbed in his research or his plants.

A pink Deerling with hints of a green undertone to her coat lay comfortably against a tree, a very unimpressed looking Snivy sitting on her back with his small arms folded. He looked rather displeased, while the Deerling looked content and mildly curious. Both were watching the brown-skinned human nearby, who was holding something he'd called a 'bow.' The long piece of wood was held in his left hand, while a long thin piece lay perpendicular to the bow, the whole ensemble pointed at the ground a couple feet away. "All clear, Leilani?" The teen asked, taking another cursory glance around, though his line of sight was interrupted by quite a few trees.

The Meganium, who stood just outside said trees, craned her neck all around. There was no one in the immediate vicinity of where his arrow would land, so she turned back to him and nodded happily. "Niuuu!"

"Muy bien," he said with a lop-sided grin, raising the bow and pulling the arrow back as far as he could, aiming across the path that cut through the middle of a clearing, his green eyes focused on a particular tree that sat slightly in front of the rest in the twisted line of trees. "Okay, let's see if I can hit th--ack! Qué demonios?!" In an instant there was a rather forceful shove aimed at his leg, causing an instinctual reaction to try and swat away the whatever it was - except both hands were full. Such a reaction swiftly changed the direction of the now discharged arrow before it fired away from him at full force. He watched it for a moment - or attempted to, damned trees (no wait he didn't mean that) - before glaring down at the displeased looking Snivy at his side. The pair had a staring contest for some moments, trainer looking extremely displeased with the pokemon while the pokemon looked similarly displeased - and unimpressed - with the trainer. The staring contest was finally broken when the grass-type unfolded his arm, placing one tiny hand on his hip and pointing the other to his mouth. It was time for him to be fed.

One green eye twitched slightly before being followed by a heavy sigh. "Seriously Dimitri? Oi.. Leilani, go get that please," he sighed and gestured vaguely towards the rogue arrow, hoping it hadn't hit anything important. Or anyone, for that matter.

The Meganium crooned happily - and a little worriedly - before bounding off in the direction of the arrow to get it and bring it back, hopefully in one piece, and hopefully not stuck in anything it shouldn't be.

It was a beautiful day. Perhaps a little to sunny and a little too hot for his tastes, but he was enjoying himself nevertheless. A stroll around Ambergris the previous day on a field training expedition for Skiron and Persephone had led to a very interesting encounter indeed. Once a basic degree of communication has been achieved (once he realized he wasn't going to be eviscerated, that the stranger merely wanted information), they had returned to base and spent the rest of the day showing it around. Today he had decided to take his new friend to Sandalwood; it had really perked up at the mention of the University. After a nose around there an a few other sights first thing in the morning they were now wandering around the forest.

Metang - Koios as its new friend named it - hummed quietly to itself as it appreciated the sensory input. It had not seen a place with quite so many trees before. A collection of trees this size was called a forest. Humans usually cleared forests to make their dwellings, but here had built around them and in their branches. The small pale human had not been quite clear on why that was, but it was sure it would be told eventually or failing that it would find out for itself. It was glad that it had finally found the people it was looking for, and even gladder that they turned out to be as interesting as it had hoped. After all it had been through, finding out that they were dull would have been a crushing disappointment, and indeed -

Projectile. Ten degrees to the right. Closing rapidly. Giving a louder hum, Koios shifted in front of its squishy biological companion and snatched the threat out of the air. "Metaaang?" A long thin piece of wood, sharp at the leading end feathered at the back to make it fly well. A weapon. Who would want to attack its friend?

"Koios what on Earth?... An arrow?" Frost frowned in confusion. "Who the heck is doing archery around here?" He was very glad he had Koios with him, he hadn't got over his broken ribs yet and didn't need an arrow wound to add to his list of injuries. It seemed like this had probably been an accident but he wasn't one to take chances, and as such he let Skiron out of his pokeball. "Keep alert," he instructed the ice type, "somebody nearly hit me with an arrow. I presume it was an accident but can't be certain."

Skiron nodded acknowledgment, and pricked his ears up attentively; if it hadn't been an accident, he was ready to deal with the perpetrator.

It wouldn't be long before a rather large grass-type - or large for Frost, given that the Meganium was over six feet tall - bounded over to the trio. She'd followed the trail of the arrow fairly well, and it wasn't anywhere in the grass that she could se--ah! "Niuuu!" She crooned, bounding closer to them. She stopped a couple feet away and bobbed her head at the floating metal pokemon. She asked suddenly, the thought seeming to occur at random and entirely changing her demeanor from bright and sunny to worried and concerned.

After a few seconds' pause, she took a moment to survey the small group, her gold eyes passing over the pale human and focusing on the pretty ice-type. She craned her neck to move her head around to see as many different angles as possible. Arrow, right! She was there to get the arrow, not socialize. Her head swiftly lifted again, peering a bit anxiously at the floating pokemon again.

A Meganium? Humm. Presumably it had been sent after the arrow. It was quite an attractive specimen. He had no idea what it was saying, naturally, and so Frost waited for his pokemon to react to it.

Koios asked rhetorically once the grass type had finished speaking. he held it out so that that Meganium could take it in her mouth. it went on,

Skiron gave a good-natured chirr of amusement, he nudged his trainer's leg and looked up expectantly,

she said quickly, shaking her head vigorously as if that would help prove her point. here she turned her head to one side, focusing on the intended target, < - that tree over there.> Her gaze was returned to the trio. Here it was. Oh! Right! She said cheerfully as she snaked her head out to take the slender arrow in her mouth. She didn't really know exactly what a firing line was - presumably something related to bows and arrows and where they hit or something, which made sense, so she nodded her head vigorously before beaming down at the Glaceon. Apparently the adjective 'large' did not have a negative connotation for the Meganium.

With that, she turned and bounded off towards the woods again. She paused halfway there to make sure the trio were still following her before continuing, then weaved through the sparse amount of trees separating her from her trainer with a surprising ease. "Niuummmm," she cooed through the arrow, which she happily presented to her trainer.

"There you are, mi Leilani," he said with a sigh, taking the arrow with one hand while stroking her large nose with the other. "I was starting to wonder where you went off to. Donde que era?"

"Spanish," said Frost as he stepped out of the tree cover, "I'm afraid I don't speak any. Hello. You nearly shot me." A boy in his mid teens, quite attractive colouring... and with a bow. "Is this a designated archery range? I was not aware I had wandered onto one... Not that I actually did any research. I just assumed that there would be warning signs or some such... Hello. You can call me D, or Dimitri. That's an interesting pair of Pokemon, a Deerling and a Sinvy? Such varieties have not been in the region long, how did you come upon them?" He had just said quite a lot, possibly repeating himself a little, and so he should probably give the youth a break in which to respond.

As it looked around Koios made a curious whirring sound. Two more kinds of pokemon it didn't recognize. it hummed,

Skiron put in with a polite nod to all present pokemon,

"Ah--" There were people - no, just one person, with two pokemon, and he... just kept talking. Inigo blinked, his expression betraying his confusion and uncertainty. "I don't -- um.." He.. he just kept going, and going, and... oh, he'd stopped. The confused teen blinked a couple more times to process all of the statements and questions, trying to put them into a vaguely organized... order. "Hola," he managed after the pause, still looking rather confused, "Inigo. Nice to meet you, uh, D. And geez, I'm sorry," here he rubbed his free hand - holding both the bow and the arrow with the other - over the back of his neck in a sheepish manner. "No, it's not, but I didn't expect anyone to come walking by right now. Plus Leilani was helping me watch out for people." The absolute last thing he wanted to do was hit somebody. But this man - D? Weird name - didn't appear injured.. oh, he said nearly, right. "Um, the Snivy's name is Dimitri too, actually --" said Snivy quickly stood, offering D a grand gesture with one arm while attempting to hide the sandwich he held in his other hand behind his back. Clearly, no one would notice it there. "-- and the Deerling is Fantasia. Dimitri kind of.. walked up one day and handed me his pokeball," to which he shrugged in a sort of 'what can you do?' gesture. He'd needed more pokemon anyway. "And Fantasia was a gift from one of my friends," he said as his confusion gave way to a warm grin as he recalled that particular day. There, hopefully he'd answered everything. Hopefully he had..

After the introductions, Dimitri sat back down with a flourish to finish his sandwich. He was completely unimpressed with it, but he was absolutely famished. The fact that it had originally been Inigo's lunch didn't matter to him in the slightest. One brown eye studied the two pokemon critically for a moment before he waved them away dismissively with one tiny hand.

Fantasia, on the other hand, had immediately sprung up with her tail in the air as the strange human approached, and was now watching the trio from behind a tree, her pink head peeking out from one side. she offered softly, her small head momentarily retreating a bit further behind the tree as she spoke. These were strangers, and strangers should be watched warily and with caution until proven safe. Her last trainer had seemed nice, and gave her to this trainer - so obviously he was safe, but these new ones.. Inigo didn't seem to know them, so that meant they were, in fact, strangers. and by 'we' she more than likely meant her and Dimitri, as Leilani suddenly lowered her head behind Skiron before speaking abruptly.

Well, she could at least understand certain words he'd used enough times. Thankfully, 'donde' was one of them. Oh, yes, she loved meeting new pokemon and people! Girl humans moreso than male humans, of course, since they were so much cuter, but male humans were interesting too.
PostPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 4:32 am

"You are forgiven Inigo," said Frost, making a small dismissive gesture, "Koios caught it, so no harm is done... Oh, another Dimitri? Well, hello there, I hope you are enjoying your sandwich. Clearly an enterprising little pokemon. As for the Deerling," he inspected Fantasia carefully before giving a nod, "a very nice present. It sounds like you have a very good friend in... in whichever friend gave her to you. Oh. My pokemon are Koios - whom I mentioned," he indicated the Metang, "and Skiron... Well I don't think Koios actually really counts as my pokemon, but we are working together at present; it has not seen a forest before so I was showing it around... Are you a grass type specialist, or is your collection just a coincidence?"

Koios made a clanking noise signifying interest, There were so many things it needed to think about that perhaps the first thing it should think about was making a priority list for things to think about.

replied Skiron, He certainly hoped that Glaceon wasn't on the menu. Maybe he should be ready to duck behind the mass of metal that was Koios, just in case.

Oh geez, this guy did talk a lot, didn't he? Crap. "Ah," he fumbled once the odd man had finally finished speaking, "a girl named Aila gave her to me a while ago, I guess because she knows I like grass-types and stuff. And yeah, it's on purpose, I study botany at the University," a jerk of his thumb in some vague direction behind him indicated its general location, "and sorry about the arrow. I was aiming for that tree over there, clear across the path," indicated by the pointer finger on his free hand, "but Dimitri decided at the last second he was going to ram himself into my leg to let me know he was hungry." The explanation was finished with a sigh directed at the named, clearly not too pleased with the behavior. "But no harm done, so everything's good," he said with a shrug, then looked at the two pokemon with him. "I see Metang every so often at school, but not many Glaceon. They both look cool. Are you going to keep -- ah, Koios?" That was how he said it, right? He thought so.

During the conversation, Leilani had trotted over to nudge Fantasia out from behind the tree. A vexed "deee!" indicated the deer's displeasure, but she hopped out all the same and immediately took cover behind the larger grass-type. she agreed, then spared a glance to the silent Snivy. she huffed, earning a heated glare from Dimitri as he turned away from them all to elegantly finish Inigo's his sandwich.

The Meganium simply crooned happily. she explained happily, though Inigo didn't have his slingshot out right now. Hum. bobbing her head up and down a bit as if to emphasize the point.

...Aila? Frost kept his face neutral, but internally he frowned thoughtfully. Aila was not exactly a common name, so he could only presume that he meant the Aila he knew. This youth looked close to her age, so perhaps she fancied him. That was a mildly amusing thought. On the other hand, maybe she was working up to drawing him into Team Rocekt. "I've always found botony interesting," Frost nodded, "but I confess I know little about it. What is your area of interest specifically?.. Oh, and thank you. I have had Skiron for a long while now, he is a good companion. As for Koios," Frost's pale eyes flicked to the floating stell type and he tiltied his head thoughtfully. "I suppose he - it, sorry - will remain with me for as long as it wishes. I have no idea how long that will be." A while he hoped, it would be a great asset to his currently rather sparse team.

Skiron chuckled, and nodded his head to the smug-look grass type,

Koios mused aloud, His list of things to investigate was getting bigger every day.

Dimitri simply scoffed at Skiron's words, offered him another dismissive wave, and continued to eat Inigo's his sandwich. He didn't have the time nor the patience to listen to the inane ramblings of commoners.

Leilani seemed unperturbed by the Snivy's behavior - actually she seemed to either be ignoring it altogether or didn't even register it at all - and leaned her head down close to the ice-type's. Actually, he probably did want to see it, so without waiting for an answer she raised her head and butted it into Inigo's side gently, nosing at the pocket that contained the slingshot.

"Well, technically botany is my specific area of--ah, que? What is it Leilani?" The large grass-type was cooing and still nudging at his right pocket, so he reached in and pulled out his slingshot. Without skipping a beat, the delighted Meganium crooned and took it carefully before lightly dropping it on the ground in front of Skiron. Inigo simply shrugged and returned his attention to D. Weird name. "Biology's my major, but I specialize in botany. If you mean more specific than that, then I guess.." He rubbed the back of his neck momentarily as his brow furrowed in thought. "Well, I study plants usually but I also study grass-types and how they grow, and how much of them are flora versus fauna. Like Deerling, even though they look like fauna, they're more flora because their appearances change with the seasons, or something. I haven't gotten too far yet," but that was because he'd hardly just gotten her.
PostPosted: Thu May 05, 2011 1:49 am

"Ah, I see," Frost nodded, frowning thoughtfully, "an interesting area of study. Clearly grass type pokemon are different from normal plants, yet some are more similar as you say to flora and some to fauna. I am sure there is research on the matter, but with Deerling being so new to this region and having such a unique characteristic you will be among the first to write on them... A slinghot and a bow and arrow?" the small man tilted his head curiously as he registered the item that Leilani had taken over to the other pokemon. "An interesting pair of hobbies," Frost went on, "I have tried archery once or twice and found it to be rather satisfying. I have never used a slingshot though."

Skiron sniffed carefully at the strange item, They really were inventive creatures, but he was supposed that had been a necessity for them. Without clothes, towns, constructed weapons and all the others things they made the poor creatures wouldn't have lasted long at all.

"Yeah," he agreed with a lop-sided grin. "Aila said there's some lab studying Deerling in.. where is it? Unova? But I guess they haven't made any significant discoveries yet." The tone of voice in which he said this indicated his suppressed excitement at possibly being one of the first to do major research on them, and he turned to look at the small creature still hiding behind Leilani. "I've had that slingshot for a few years now, the bow too. I really like them, but I get more practice in with the slingshot than the bow for obvious reasons," he explained with a light chuckle. "They're really nice and light, I can usually just keep it in my pocket wherever I go. Did you want to try it?" He asked suddenly, turning to focus on the small man once again.

she said with a vigorous nod, The desired reaction was for it to explode on contact with any hard surface after being shot at a good speed, which didn't always happen when he first started developing them, but he'd since managed to make them work almost every single time.
PostPosted: Mon May 16, 2011 4:32 am

"Oh... Well. Alright. Thank you." The offer caught him a little off guard if he was honest, but it was certainly a kind one, and an interesting opportunity. "I understand the physics involved in the use of a slingshot," Frost went on with a thoughtful frown, "but technique I haven't the faintest idea about." Hopefully some instruction would be provided; he didn't want to accidentally peg Skiron with a rock or something.

Skiron chirred softly and tilted his head curiously. Be definition powder was, for want of a better word, powdery.

Koios suggested, whirring as its brains ticked over. Those sounded like the most likely options to it.

the Meganium explained with a grin. she finished and took a deep breath, smiling again.

"Okay," he said amiably as he picked up the slingshot from the grass. He cast around for a rock for a moment or two before he found a couple suitably sized ones. Thankfully 'physics' and 'technique' were two words he was familiar with. "Alright, it isn't too hard," he began, pointedly holding the slingshot in his left hand. "You hold it in your non-dominant hand - my left, since I'm right handed - and make sure this side is toward you," he indicated the stretchy bit before he rolled a rock from his palm into his fingers, and placed it into the larger piece in the middle of the band. "You just stick the rock - or whatever you're shooting - in here, then hold it with a couple fingers, and then-- ah, I'll stand over here so you can see." The teen moved accordingly so D would be able to see his right side. He lifted his left arm and straightened it, still holding the band loosely. "You have to lock your elbow too, like you would when using a bow, and then pull this back like you would. It's really similar," he commented as he demonstrated, holding the rock in place still as he pulled the band back and aimed. "Also you gotta be careful you don't misfire and hit the curve of the actual slingshot instead of shooting over it, cuz that really hurts." In other words, aim it by moving the implement, not the ammo. "Then you just.. let go," he finished as he did so, and the rock shot through the air before crashing into a tree quite a few yards off. He then straightened up and offered the slingshot and the remaining rocks to D. "Here, you try it now."
