Ashley had been very glad to hear that Demy had gotten a job - and very proud, too ! His job sounded pretty fun, even, though she had never quite set foot in an arcade. She wasn't much of a gamer - sitting and doing nothing for long spans of time. Standing still and staring at a screen for long periods of time also wasn't an activity Ashley found much enjoyment in.
But that wasn't the point. The point is that tonight had been planned for awhile, and so Ashley had been waiting for Dem to get off work, and then they'd went to get hair dye, and then headed to her home, which was once again vacated for the weekend. She'd just finished cooking dinner, and once they were done eating she could doll him up.
It was going to be amazing.

Demy, on the other hand, had spent a good chunk of his life in arcades. It was only suiting for him to get a job at Electric Dreams, and with how well the staff knew him from his numerous trips there it had been quite easy too! He was adjusting well to the working life, though it was still kind of a game for him too. Hell, Ashley had to wander -in- to find him since he was so busy having a ball that he didn't realize what time it was.
At least she -did- find him, and getting him to follow after locating him wasn't hard at all. The boy was eager for their planned night, why shouldn't he be? New hair, delicious food, hang out times with Ashley!
"This hair color is going to look so awesome Ashley!' Demy was sitting at the table, examining the boxes of dye for the hundredth time so far. Likely he'd look at them at least a few more times before they finally got it out of the box and into his hair.

Thankfully for Demy, Ashley was no stranger to applying dye, even just streaks. Not to her own hair - she had no idea why she would even want to dye her own hair, it seemed like such a silly notion to her. But she had plenty of knowledge with working with it.
Demy had come to the right place, that for sure.
There would definitively be dish-washing before any of that happened, though. "Not if you don't stop playing with the boxes long enough to open them." She pointed out, clearly a little amused. The boy's excitement was pretty much off the known dimension and somewhere off the charts of what was known and documented.
It was fine, Ashley liked uncharted territory. "You could go get my things while I do dishes ? Gloves are in the bathroom, and foil's in the cupboard."

"But it's such a neat color, look at it Ashley!" He held up the box, again, showing off the shade of blue he had picked out. Bright as hell, as usual for the blonde boy.
At the suggestion to go get her things he was up and off like a shot. "I'll get em! Be right back!!" Then the sounds of rummaging could be heard from various areas of Ashley's home, which was either a good thing (maybe he was finding the stuff!) or a bad thing (it was Demy, after all).

Alas, so was the risks one took daily when one knew Demy Wright. Ashley was finding that dealing with the possible whoops was kind of like riding a bicycle - it just came right back when you needed it.
She finished the dishes quickly then took the now discarded boxes to read the instructions. It was all fairly standard stuff. She was pretty glad Demy was blonde - she never quite liked bleaching, and she was quite confident both shades - the red and the blue - would come out pretty nicely without need for such thing. Bleach had tendency to make her itchy even though gloves.
By the time her subject for the day returned, Ashley was mixing both dyes in two separate little cups for easy access, and had a brush nearby. She had also newspapered the floor and the table, and gotten out an old tablecloth to make sure nothing would fall down on his clothes.
She had ruined enough clothing to know better.

He returned shortly, depositing the requested items on the table before turning his attention on investigating the scene. Which mostly consisted of him leaning over the cups and peering inside. Dye sure looked weird, and for a moment he wanted to poke at it! Unfortunately orange and blue fingers probably wouldn't go over well with Heather, so he had to resist. For now.
While Ashley busied herself with mixing the dye, Demy prepped himself with the tablecloth. Right, wouldn't want to ruin his clothes! Though the dye would probably mix in well with his usual colorful scheme it was probably best not to try the theory out.
When ready, he plopped down (he was tall after all, poor Ashley would need help reaching his head!) and grinned up at his friend.
"Ready!"

Amusingly, Ashley had still been pondering getting a stool versus kicking him in the shins when the blonde finally sat down.
Good idea, Dem.
Without further ado, Ashley started to work, though there was clearly something on her mind, a thought that had returned suddenly. She wasn't humming as she usually did while she was doing something - and for the times where she was at the side to work on his bangs, he could clearly see that she was frowning in thought. The only sound were her own steps and and crinkling of aluminum foil to shield the rest of her captain's hair from the dye.
Trust was, she had never truly stopped thinking since last week. Since Matty and Serandite. She wasn't upset at the general, no, but it had proved her that her brother wasn't as safe as she once thought.
She had a choice to make, not one that she really wanted to do, mind, but she still had a choice to make. Would she let this be, and go with the risks... or would she pull her brother into the negaverse, at her side, where he'd always been ?
The advantages seemed to out weight the disadvantages, the more she thought about it.

For a while, Demy was content to sit still and let her work on his hair. The silence was unnerving, and more than a little strange, but it was the first time he had ever had his hair dyed and he didn't want to mess up the process. This was his HAIR...he wasn't willing to jeopardize it's condition just to make a tiny noise and break the silence.
For a bit, at least.
But then it continued on...and on...and on. And Ashley looked so lost in thought which eventually led to the blonde biting his lip nervously. This was his friend and lieutenant! What was bothering her so much?
Finally he could hold it in no longer. "Ashley....something's bugging you isn't it?" He was trying to look concerned. It was a bit hard with tinfoiled bits of his hair hanging down in his face.

"Ah !" She let out a tiny noise, suddenly dragged away from her thoughts. "Just... thinking, sorry."
She was almost done, though - then it would just be a matter of time before she could rince the dye off. "Im just thinking about... things."
Things. Yeah.
The hardest step was always the hardest. If she started speaking now, there would be no going back. But at the same time... what use could it be to keep on pushing it off ? And Dem's hinsight would help.
She crimped the last bit of foil closed. "...If I wanted to bring someone in the negaverse, would you back me ? I know im just a lieutenant, so..."

Now the boy was all smiles underneath the tin foil. Aw...she was worried about Negaverse things! He could help with that, it's what he was there for!
"Of COURSE I'd back you! For one, you're not just a lieutenant. You're my lieutenant and a very good friend. I'm here to help everyone that needs it, but my team? You guys are special, I'd go to the ends of the earth for you..ya know?"
Demy reached up, brushing aside some of the tinfoil so he could focus up on Ashley herself.
"For another...I always support new officers, because it's new members of the family and we honestly need all the help we can get. Did...you have someone in mind?"

This was where the matter started to be delicate, really. Had it been anyone else, there wouldn't be nearly as much thought, nearly as much emotion involved. She knew that if she answered now, there would be no backing out.
And then she finally made her decision.
"Yes." She said, carefully putting the plastic bowls and the brushes aside. "Matty."
That could explain her expression pretty nicely. "He got caught up in a wide energy drain one night... And I saw him passed out, I got him home, I knew he was gonna be okay but... still..." Her voice choked up.

....Oh dear.
"Cmere." Not that she had a choice, because Demy quickly reached for her and pulled her down onto his lap so he could give her a nice big reassuring hug.
"I understand, I really do. You know I pulled Zac into the Negaverse because I was afraid of him getting hurt too? He was the closest thing I had to family at the time, and I just...couldn't stand the thought of him dragged into this with no way to defend himself." The blonde gave her another squeeze. "We'll get him, okay? And I'm sure he'll be an awesome officer and everything will work out fine. Heck, we can even request him to be on my team, so you guys can work together. You'd like that, yeah? Show your brother the ropes?"
"I've got your back in this, and I'll go with you to ask someone to do the recruiting process if you'd like. Did you have anyone in mind?" Demy bit his lip just slightly, wishing he could actually do it and make it that much easier for poor Ashley.
It was, at least, motivation to work as hard as he can towards a promotion.

As if Ashley would have stopped him, anyway. She was more than happy to get dragged and to just settle against him - she didn't even care if dye got on her, she was wearing old clothes for a reason after all.
"T-Thank you..." She sniffled. She hadn't known that, actually. "It's not just that, I know... I know he can be very useful too. With all the computer stuff he knows... That has to be useful, right ?"
Right ? Even if there was already someone like that, they could work together. She hoped.
"I was thinking about asking General Queen Tanzanite." The one meeting they'd had, alone with each other.... Had gone over pretty well, actually. "But I was thinking... Having your backing on this wouldn't hurt, since im just a lieutenant and you know more about what makes a good recruit than I do..."
Now she was just babbling.

"Everyone is useful, but yes! I'm sure the computer stuff will be an amazing addition to the Negaverse. Don't worry Ashley, it'll be okay. I will make it okay, alright?"
Demy ruffled her hair a bit, the grin on his face as wide as could be. Battle and blood and death weren't something he could handle. But this? This he could take care of.
"Tanzanite is a good choice. She's been there for me..she helped Zac with Lyra...I'm sure she'll be there for you too! She gets us, you know? She understands and that's what we need. Higher ups who totally get us and want to do everything they can to help us. Tanz will listen, and I'm sure in no time Matt will be working with us too."

"I really hope so..." Ashley managed. "I just... I wanted to keep him out of all this, but I don't think it's possible. Not with him still in this town anyway." And even if she could send her brother away ? She wasn't sure she would have been able to stand it.
Reluctantly letting go to step toward the fridge. "You want something to drink ?" They still had awhile before she could unleash Demy on her bathroom to wash the dye off.
