Activity Analysis COH 100 Fitness Module Words: 551 4/17/11 Analyzing My Weekly Activity In analysis of my activity log, I have noticed that I am a lot more physically active than I thought I was. According to the Concepts of Wellness book, I have been performing moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity almost every day by doing simple activities in my schedule. This has kept me physically active without putting much effort into it. I do, however, seem to have trouble stretching, and I often run out of breath quickly when running; I should consider scheduling a flexibility and cardio exercise program. Despite being able to walk long distances on a regular basis, my resting heart rate (RHR) is an average of eighty-eight beats per minute. According to buzzle.com’s article on resting heart rates, this is very poor for my age. I have a feeling that my high-sodium diet might play a part in this. In order to make my RHR go down, I need to first dedicate myself to a healthier diet. Secondly, I should exercise my heart. Since walking isn’t helping, a more vigorous cardio exercise is needed. I found a few good cardio exercise programs on Fitnesstrainerstogo.com, saying that invisible rope-jump, traditional jumping jacks, and rotating-pivoting upper cuts are basic but great at-home cardio workouts . I may also want to try jogging home instead of just walking.
Although I am very flexible, I have trouble with the aches and pains in my muscles and joints afterwards. Much like my RHR, I think that my poor diet, especially the high sodium in the sodas and food I consume, plays a major role in the muscle cramps. Another part of this could be the long periods of time I spend in one position when on the computer or sitting on the couch. If I am to make these aches go away, I should decrease my sodium intake and also get up and stretch more often after long periods of inactivity. According to the U.S National Institute of Health’s website, splits and bending over backwards are not necessary to keep oneself limber, and that simply reaching down to touch your toes, stretching your legs, or rotating your shoulders and head will do . I should also look into getting more yoga lessons at the Payne center, and maybe do morning stretches after getting out of bed each day. In order to make myself more healthy and happy, I should make myself perform cardio and flexibility exercises at least 3 times a week. I should also look into my diet and change it to a healthier alternative, probably get more iron and calcium in my meals. I am also planning on getting my driver’s license soon, so I will be able to drive a car to and from anywhere I want from then on. Of course, this will mean that my walking days will become less and I will have to find another way of exercising. I will have to make an exercise schedule and dedicate myself to it in order to get the exercise I need, though I might need some help with a fitness instructor. I should also start attending my karate classes again, which I have been planning to do for a while now. Hopefully, I can find the motivation to get myself to stick with my exercise program. healthier, stronger, and happier.

"You say I don't know what suffering is, huh? You think I've just had everything handed to me on a silver platter all my life, because I was born in the right family? You think I'm just some rich boy who's never had a bad day in his life, don't you? For someone who claims he has street smarts, you sure are stupid. While you were off feeling sorry for yourself, I was stuck on a roof top in New Orleans. What a great time to visit my uncle for a month, huh? It didn't matter if we wanted to evacuate, the traffic was so congested that we were trapped even before the storm. Oh you better believe I know what pain is: being forced to drink the water that destroyed the town you were born in just to survive, that's pain. Sitting alone on a rooftop for days, starving and hysterical, unsure if anyone would ever find you; that's suffering. Trying to save some kid clinging to a piece of lumber and pulling her back to your roof top... only to see that she's already dead. You think I don't know what suffering is, huh? I know what suffering is!! HER NAME IS KATRINA!!" This monologue was spoken by Domonique Jones, a college student who had been constantly harassed by a co-worker and finally snaps on his antagonist. Domonique simply wants his co-worker to leave him alone. This monologue takes place two years after the hurricane Katrina incident in New Orleans; and Domonique is telling his co-worker this because he wants to let the other know that just because he can afford college doesn't mean that he's a spoiled brat.
