A quick power down around the corner, names exchanged and not much else, and Ever had hauled his savior down the street in search of someplace they could get a quick, cheap meal. He knew a diner, close enough that his limping wouldn't hold them up.

The place was quintessentially tacky: chrome [or something that pretended at being chrome] and fluorescent lights, a sign with far too many bright colors, blue tiled walls against red booths. As such, as far as Ever was concerned, it was perfect; he prodded someone to giving them a table, the place quiet this late at night, and claimed the seat that was closest.

There he smoothed fingers over the laminated plastic surface of the menus and grinned across at her. "I recognize you. You have very purple hair. How would I recognize you?"

This little dinner certainly wasn't a place where most would find Ashley in, usually - which was a good thing, because that meant there would be no need for her to explain what she was doing with a man that was clearly a few years her senior. She was clearly curious, though, looking around as they were lead to their table.

The place was mostly empty. Also good, since it meant they could talk a little more freely than if it had been full of people. Ashley settled in her chair and perked a bit when Ever spoke. Very purple hair ? Well, she decided to take that as a compliment.

"Hmmm..." She pondered out loud. "Actually, I get the feeling I've seen you somewhere, too... But I can't quite place it ?" He wasn't one of her brother's friends, she didn't think... "Does the name Matthew rings a bell ? Same hair color, brown eyes ?"

"How old is he?" Names weren't the best way to go, with Ever; situations and circumstances might have been a bit better. He shifted where he sat, dropping the menu so that he could rub at his shoulder, and stretched his legs out easily into her space on the other side of the booth. Apparently it wasn't just Zac he tortured that way. Maybe it was all short people. And maybe all tall people did it...

"I mean, uh. s**t, how old are you?" It was wincing instead of judgmental, though. They were all young. She wasn't alone there. At this point, Ever'd stopped being quite so weirded out by it, and instead assumed that they were all adults, more or less..
PostPosted: Fri Apr 29, 2011 6:06 pm

"He's 20, goes to DCU... Hm. I was thinking you might have been one of his friends, but probably not. We look really alike, save for eye color, and his skin is a little darker like dad's is." She shrugged. When he stretched his legs, she didn't seem to mind - probably because there was certainly enough place for both his feet and her on the booth. Hell, there were probably enough space for three of her in her side of the booth.

When he asked her age, she just grinned. "State secret. Didn't anyone tell you it was rude to ask a lady her age ?" It was teasing, playful, rather than angry, through.

When the waitress came to get their order, she asked for a beer. When given a long stare, Ashley dug out her wallet and flashed her id. For a moment, it looked like the woman wasn't gonna buy it, but she eventually relented.

"Yeah, yeah, okay." She muttered, once the woman left. "16. Im almost 17, through !" As if it made it any better. She only hoped Ever wasn't going to rat her out.

Ever went for the milkshake instead of booze: vanilla, nourishing, filling. A good call, since abruptly he was starving, and it would take him a bit to decide on something more nutritional off the menu. Burger, chicken, pasta....he made a little noise as the waitress walked away.

"Your brother's younger than me, and I'm currently, uh, not in school, so...." He shook his head, flicking brief looks up at her from the page and considering her expression. "I don't think so. Unless he's into night life. Clubbing. Big dancer?"

Well, it looked like she wasn't gonna get the speech about underage drinking. Ever was now officially cool with her. Not that he wasn't already, but well.

"Hm, not really. Through.... Heyyyy." There ! "That must be where we saw each other ! I used to go in bars a lot. Whenever I could get in, really." It was always hit and miss, mostly because of her height.

Of course, she's had less time for this lately. "A bit less so lately since I started... you know, our job. But that's the only thing I can really think of."

Of course, she wasn't stupid enough to power up while tispy. She rarely ever got to full on drunk, thankfully.

"Mmm, maybe." He folded arms over the table, crossing his legs at the ankle and looking at her for a long moment. Ever was probably waiting for alarm bells to go off but -- they didn't. If she'd been male, maybe he would have remembered her better, but he rarely paid attention to anything lacking a Y-chromosome when he was at clubs. Especially when he was drunk at clubs.

"Why'd the job make you stop? I mean, lots of drunk people, wandering off on their own, private spaces, dark locations..." As far as Ever was concerned, that was probably the best place to go a-hunting.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 29, 2011 6:49 pm

"Well, I still hang around these places on the job, yeah." She conceded. "But not in the same way, you know ? I just hang in back alleys and wait for them to spill out. Safer this way in my case." She was, after all, tiny. And her uniform didn't exactly blend well in a club environmental.

"After all, we just got a very good example of why being buzzed on the job is a bad idea, don't we ?"

Not that the senshi had been buzzed - he'd been very clearly drunk - but she figured Ever would get it. She couldn't help but grin. "He should have known better, but im kind of glad he didn't. That was hilarious."

Oh, he got it -- and grinned back at her, easily. "Easiest encounter with one of them I have ever had, I have to tell you. And he seemed, um. More powerful than most of them..."

A quick shake of his head, and he leaned back as the waitress came with drinks, hesitating another moment before she plunked Ashley's down in front of her. Vanilla shake in a giant glass with more in its metal mixer on the side; Ever wondered, for a moment, if he'd been given special treatment on account of the skinny frame. It wouldn't be the first time...

"That's the third time I've duct taped one, though, you know? I always wondered how the hell I could make use of that stuff..."
PostPosted: Fri Apr 29, 2011 7:24 pm

"Yeah, that was pretty easy... We'd probably would have been in trouble if he hadn't been drunk, through." She wasn't cocky enough to think ******** meteors, man, Her arm still burned, but at least now that she was wearing a jacket, it cut down the air contact on the burn a bit. It helped, if only slightly.

She took the beer when it was finally given to her, then took a sip. Yeah, she was definitively off 'work' for the rest of tonight. "It was awesome, though. I wish I had something useful. At least you can duct tape them..."

Fluorite hadn't even used her weapon, and there was a reason why.

Something more useless than duct tape in a fight? Ever raised his eyebrows at that, chewing on the end of his straw and downing a shocking amount of his shake in one long gulp. Left his head pounding a tiny bit, but not a lot, at least.

"What do you have, then?" He rolled a hand as he swallowed. She couldn't actually show him, probably, but she could describe, at least. "What's more useless? Scotch tape?"

"I get to play one-card pickup with people that can shoot special effects out of their buttholes, pretty much." She looked, and sounded, dead serious. Because she indeed was.

"Just like, a normal playing card. That's it. I think I must have pissed off some great cosmic force or something, because how is that even fair ? Seriously."

She took another sip of her beer. "I havn't even managed to papercut anyone, that's how fail my damn card is."

That got a wide look, Ever sucking down more of his milkshake as he watched her, his head cocked to the side. Owlish. Considering. That did sound rather awful, and he paused to look for an upside on that.

"...at least you got flat shoes." Ah, there it was, his own deep-rooted annoyance with the whole gig. Ever shook his head and shot a look off in search of the waitress, very much wishing that he had a burger in front of him. The drinks only whet an ever-present apetite. "And full length pants."
PostPosted: Fri Apr 29, 2011 7:55 pm

How cute. Ever thought she had shoes. "Actually, they're not shoes." She pointed out. He probably just hadn't noticed. It wasn't like people just stared at her feet.

She would be a little creeped out if they did, actually. "They're kind of like... foot wraps, really. No sole, just cloth. It really sucked but you kind of get used to it.. and at least the cloth is thick enough to keep glass out." That would have been painful. "I do quite like my pants, through." She had to concede on this. She quite liked her pants. And her sleeves. Though it would have been handy if they'd covered her upper arms tonight...

Even as she spoke, she was giving the menu another look, apparently not quite decided on what she wanted to eat yet. She fidgeted a bit in her booth, but she didn't look nervous - far from it, in fact. "Decided what you wanted yet ?" She could make up her mind real fast. She was pretty good at that.

"I knew what I wanted, pretty much, before I set foot in the door..." He shifted, with that, head craning to hunt down their waitress and make puppy eyes until seh came over. He wanted a burger. And fries. And, after checking his poor victim's wallet, he wanted another shake, too. If someone else was paying, Ever would certainly take advantage.

He polished off what was already in front of him while Ashley ordered, considering how to answer that -- his head tipped just slightly to one side. Didn't speak until the waitress was gone. "How does it decide what we look like? Never really thought about that before."
