It had been a productive morning, mostly consisting of training Skiron and Persephone. It was around lunchtime now, and as he didn't want a big meal and didn't fancy the standard fare of the cafeteria anyway, Frost was making his way to the coffee shop with a rolled up blueprint and pad of paper under one arm. Pushing open the door he gave a nod of satisfaction at the clean, bright room. It had a nice atmosphere, and wasn't overly crowded at the moment. Tea, some kind of toasted sandwich, perhaps a piece of fruit. That sounded like a good lunch to him, and while he was eating and drinking he could fiddle around with a design or two.

It was a promise that had brought Mau to the cafe today. For having preformed well and for behaving properly, Nuu, Mau's bright blue drifblim, was floating around the table, happily munching on a selection of sandwiches. Mau himself had settled with a cup of strong tea. Many might have said it steeped too long with how strong the man had his tea, but it was the perfect bitter sweet for his tastes. Clad in his normal attire, pressed pants and fitted vests covered by the bleach white lab coat, Mau was reviewing some documents, now and then marking things with a pen. Uncharacteristically, thin metal framed glasses rested on his nose while he worked. The older scientist usually wouldn't be seen with glasses, but some how today was just a lazy day. He shifted, pushing the frames up while he worked.
Every time her human moved, Nuu perked up, hoping he would stop being boring and entertain her, or talk. Something. But he was busy and boring. When he was still not paying attention to her, she seemed to deflate. This went on for some time while she happily snacked, at least enjoying the food reward for being good. It was about time Mau treated her special. Her Aki-papa always got to come here, and so did Ran! Jealousy that even the shy Ire had been here had gotten the drifblim down, but today? Victory was hers. She got the special treat of eating in the fancy place with Mau.
But was he always this boring? "Bliiiiiim..." She heaved a sigh, causing only a glance and a smile from her trainer before he settled back on his work. Boooooooooooooring. She took to glancing about the room for anyone interesting. Would it be ok to talk to others? She didn't recognize anyone.
Until a blond head walked in. It was the man from the forest! The funny one that flailed and talked loudly with funny words when she helped him across the river. Did he remember her helping? She had been a good helper, yes she had. With Mau distracted, Nuu set the remainder of her food on the table, and took the time to remove crumbs from her mouth and two of her hands before slowly fading away, only to reappear behind Frost, looming behind him, ready to hug him in greeting.
"DRIF!" And two of her arms wrapped around the unfortunate man, lifting him up in a happy hug.

He had very little warning before he was accosted. Had he been less preoccupied by the sandwich board or had Skiron been out of his pokeball he would have had rather more. As it was, however, the ribbon like appendages caught him totally by surprise. His arms were pinned by his sides and he was lifted slightly off the ground, compressing his still painful ribs and causing him to give a small yelp of surprise and pain.
Struggling in vain against the thing that was treating him so Frost said the first thing that came to mind; "Release me you heathen, this is not dignified!" Abruptly his situation felt very familiar. Turning his head he realized why that was so. Not only had this happened to him before, it had been done to him by the same great floating brute as last time. Turning back to look around the cafe, he identified the owner of the beast. "Agent Mau, please ask your pokemon to unhand... unappendage me!" He was being restrained, and lifted, and it hurt! He was not happy in the least.

At the first yelp, Mau was on his feet and stalking over to the blue balloon. Though hearing the poor victim call Nuu a heathen almost caused him to smile. But the man, whom he realized had been accosted by Nuu before, was not looking at all comfortable.
"Nuu." Mau's voice was dark. The ghost instantly set Frost down, but ddn't quite let go of him. She began chattering at Mau, sounding angry and slightly dejected. "This is not the time to take that tone with me." Mau cut off his pokemon, seemingly to understand what she was saying. Or at least getting the gist of it. "Go back to the table." More protest. Mau reached for his pokeballs, but that threat was enough for Nuu to return, sulking, to the table and continue with her food. She was in trouble and knew it. With the balloon now away, Mau turned to Frost.
"Quite sorry about that. Are you alright?" He hoped that Nuu hadn't hurt him, and that the look of discomfort was just because she had startled him.

As he was released Frost smoothed down his uniform with his free hand, checking that his blueprint and so on were in order too. The small ritual made him feel calm again, and he nodded acknowledgment to Mau. "I am now. I still do not enjoy being man... balloon-handled, and it was rather uncomfortable as my ribs have not fully healed after the Ariados incident, but now that I am back on the ground I am fine... Does it do that to everyone, or am I a special case?"
He wasn't sure which would be worse... Well, actually if he was a special case the floating menace might eventually tire of him and decide to pick on somebody else. Like Izaya. That would be entertaining. Dangle him off a cliff and listen to him squeal. Dunk him headfirst in the pool and hold him there until he nearly drowned, lift him out, drunk him back in again. Hours of harmless fun... well, harmless to everyone who mattered in the equation anyway. Maybe he should look into getting a Drifblim, they were starting to sound like very useful creatures indeed.

Mau had to think about that a moment. "Lately she has been more... er... physical. She enjoys poking me when I'm trying to work. But you're the only one I've seen her grab. Perhaps it's because she's met you before." Mau mused. He knew well why Nuu wouldn't pick him up. He'd sooner stab the balloon with his tie pin then allow her to cart him around in, as Frost may well put it, an undignified manor. But the fact that Nuu could have potentially caused him harm, what with his ribs not having not fully healed, Mau felt the need to make it up to him.
"Allow me to make it up to you. What were you thinking of having?" It was the start of him offering to pay to make up for Nuu's actions. Of course he had no idea what Frost was thinking.

"Umm, pardon?" Was Mau offering to buy him lunch? It wasn't all that often that attractive men offered to buy him lunch so it took him a few moments to process the tall man's words and be sure he wasn't mistaken. "Oh... Just a toasted cheese sandwich with a cup of tea..." He still wasn't actually quite sure whether that was what Mau was doing or not, and so not wishing to embarrass himself by making assumptions he said no more than that. It would be a nice gesture if that was what the dark-skinned man had meant, but if it was just curiosity or an attempt at conversation he didn't mind; a nice gesture but not a necessary one...
Humm. Now he hadn't planned to eat his lunch in company - he had planned to spread out all his papers and notes and get some work done - but maybe socializing would be more interesting. Mau was an Agent, and worked in the labs to the best of his knowledge. The sticky biological stuff that went on down there was far from his area of expertise, but that didn't mean he wasn't fascinated. Maybe even if the Agent wasn't buying he would ask to sit with him, and quiz him about his work.

Mau's face softened from the irritated worry Nuu had caused, to a relaxed, almost neutral smile. With a slight incline of his head he gestured for Frost to repeat his order to the barista grunt manning the counter. While the sandwich was easy enough, Mau didn't want to order the wrong tea. So instead, while Frost decided, Mau paid for the meal for the grunt as way of apology for Nuu's antics.
"I really don't know what's gotten into Nuu lately." Mau offered, closing his wallet and sliding it into one of his pockets. He glanced to the table where Nuu was floating around, looking at them, but simply remaining where she was. "You're welcome to join us if you'd like the company." Maybe he'd see why Nuu liked to pester this poor grunt. "But if you're working..." He gestured to the roll of paper Frost had possession of. "I understand."

Toasted cheese sandwich on brown bread. Lady Grey tea, no milk, no sugar. Mmmh... Oh, talking, yes. "I would be glad to sit with you if the balloon will leave me be," Frost replied with the smallest twitch of a wry smile, "I can work on these later. It is recreation rather than work at the moment anyway, I am just making an effort to have some solid ideas in order for when I am promoted whenever that might be." That he would eventually be promoted was a certainty in Frost's mind. He had talent and experience, and sooner or later that would be recognised.
Carrying his drink and food over to the table Frost sat down and set his papers down on the floor under the table, where he thought they would be fairly safe. If they did get ruined he had backup notes in his room, but copying them out again into a proper coherent form would be an annoyance.

Mau could appreciate working on a side project in one's free time. And working towards a promotion? Even better. Nuu however, was annoyed that these men BOTH would rather work then play with her. Oh well. It couldn't be helped if she didn't want to get yelled at again. So for now she'd be good.
"What is it you're working on, if I might ask." He shuffled his own papers, stacking them to give the other man some room for his food and drink. He was, honestly, curious what this man worked on. He wasn't even sure if he had a specific department he worked in, as they'd never spoke to each other outside the single mission a while ago.

"Mmmh?" Frost sipped his tea, peering over the brim at Mau. "You might indeed ask," he nodded, setting his cup down, "and I am happy to answer as well. The entire project is a concept car, what I have with me are notes and plans for the engine. Maximize power and efficiency, minimize weight and size. As well as a standard petrol engine I am working on an idea for an electric car powered by voltorb, vague ideas for mangimite, but less concrete... Umm..." What had the question been again? Oh, just what was he working on, good. "So yes, at the moment I am working on engine designs." It was quite nice to be asked actually, Mau was the first person outside of the garages who had asked him to date... Well, other than Xander, but Xander was an exception to the rule in many areas.
