A slight drizzle, not enough to be troublesome or hinder pack activities. Deimos was on his rounds as an alpha of the pack, patrolling the territory and renewing scent marks. The others were probably pupsitting the den and hunting out in the territory. Yet here he was, the beta without a duty, sitting upon the plateau, staring over the forest canopy, sun shining above with the soft drizzle of the morning on his fur. Sometimes, he contemplated if he was necessary around the pack, aside keeping Deimos company and another representative of the integrated Einsame Lykos.
No, he was the beta, he should be on rounds too. He should be hunting with the other members and sitting the den with the pups. He was a member of this pack, a part of Deimos' family. He was his mate after all. What silly notions he had!
The charcoal-blue wolf smiled to himself as he let the water tickle his fur. The cool touch was reminiscent of the snowy north where the big wolf found him. Still adjusting his thick fur to the warm weather down here. But if it meant being near his mate, he would endure any temperature.
Wandering the winding paths around the pack lands, the wolf walked as if his mind was not in control of his body, moving by memory through the underbrush. His mind was stuck in thoughts again.

Phrixos had quickly become a master of the prowl, stalking his prey more in the fashion of a large cat rather then a wolf. And Ehrek, as much as Phrixos liked the guy, always set himself up as perfect stalking prey.
Like now.
Lost in his thoughts, the charcoal blue wolf was roaming seemingly aimlessly through the underbrush, leaving a rather obvious, if random, path to follow. Not only that, but his blue fur stuck out like a sore paw in the green of the late spring growth.
He continued to follow the male, wondering if he should make his presence known...

Ehrek stopped. A swish of his tail, he looked around him. To the left. To the right. Green was everywhere, the smell of pine and wet grass assaulted his nose. It was still getting used to the scents of the south, though he has been here for some time, it felt like a new experience every cycle of the solstices. Here, the flowers bloomed vibrant colors and the grass was ever so green that it felt so natural under paws.
The north was different. It either rained hard or it was blanketed by a white wonderland of cold. Born and raised, struggling to survive on his own, he didn't really mind the north. It was his home. During the rains, the snow become slush, the ground becomes mud, the sky darkens as evil crackles of thunder and lightning light the sky as the moon is shrouded. Drops of rain poured hard upon the ground and the only safe shelters were caves and beneath the large pine trees where he found himself often. In fact, it was where Deimos had found him, too.
Ehrek smiled. "Home sick, aren't you?" he asked himself as he looked at his paws as they pressed into the grassy earth. "Yeah... maybe the rains will come back, a little nostalgia never hurt."
Thinking back further, as he walked, he wasn't a very good wolf to hide. Being his charcoal blue color, it was quite hard for him to hide; here and in the north. The only safe times for him to actually effectively hide was when it was raining when it was too dark to barely make out his blue patterning.
Could only imagine watching from a prey's view of a grey-blue wolf bounding over snow mounds after them. Talk about spotting from miles away.
He stops. Something was strange, the air seemed different than before. Tilting his head, he turns around. "Deimos?"
Please tell me its just him being playful...

Phrixos froze, wondering how Ehrek had sensed him. But the blue male thought he was Deimos, which amused him. At first, seeing the two males cuddling each other had confused him, and weirded him out a little. But after a while, he realized that the two couldn't be any other way. The love they had for each other was the same as Phrixos had for May.
He appeared beside Ehrek with a wagging tail and friendly ears, grinning. "It's just me. Sorry to disappoint," the black and green wolf said with a smile. "I just couldn't help it...following you I mean."

Ehrek flinched inward when he caught a glimpse of the wolf in his peripheral. HOLY BEJEEBOUS! he cried in his head as his heart raced at a panic rate. When the hell did he get over here!? Was his sense of smell that poor!?
His fur eventually calmed before giving a half smile, still a bit on the descending low of the surprise. "Oh, Phrixos... why were you following me anyway?" he asked. Not like it was the first time though...
"Trust me, it was a bit disappointing that you aren't him." He chuckled, shaking his head.
"Are you off duty?"

Phrixos enjoyed the reaction, but he felt bad at the same time. It gave him a sense of satisfaction to know that he was that good at what he enjoyed. Exploring and his mate were the only things that rivaled his love of the hunt.
"I'm only ever on duty when we hunt, since I, uh, stalk the best." Shaking his fur, he sat on his haunches, trying to help calm the poor blue wolf. "And I was following you because I could...Sorry about that. It usually happens before I realize what I'm doing. Adras is becoming the same."
Phrixos cocked his head, staring at Ehrek with his bi-colored eyes, the deep blood red orb contrasting sharply with the golden yellow one.
"What were you thinking so deeply about?"

"Must be nice to get breaks like that. I kinda patrol and hunt and take care of the pups and socialize with the others," Ehrek gave a nervous chuckle. To be frank, he didn't know exactly what he was suppose to do here, he just did everything to cover the bases so no one could really say he wasn't doing his job. Surely he was probably stepping on someone else's duties and they were either annoyed or slacking because of it. "Well, you are a good hunter then, couldn't even smell you, but should be careful, not many are docile as I am."
Not that he wasn't bound to actually retaliate should he want to.
Caught staring into the heterochromia eyes of his fellow pack member.
"Uh... I was thinking about my home, back to the North." Now that he thought about it some more, did others know the North or did they just associate the area with north being the direction it was. Ehrek's North was a location, not a direction, where it rained and snowed, and, on very rare occasions, shined under the sun. "And how our alpha met me."
He smiled, this time, much more pleasant, genuine, and sincere.

"Unless Heph gives you a duty, we all pretty much do what we feel needs to be done. Between Heph, Deimos, Dione, and Kiion, the borders are well patrolled. You should be with them, actually, although no one will force you.
"Everyone takes care of the pups. We all hunt together...there is no separation of rank here." He tilted his head the other way, wondering if the way their pack behaved was unnatural.
"Do our ways bother you, blue one?"

"Not so much that it bothers me, Phrixos, removed cousin of Alpha Deimos..." he paused as if in thought. He was thinking of how he should explain it without having to delve back into his early life before the Einsame. Not many knew about it other than those he was intimately and very connected with, specifically, original Einsame members such as Deimos and Kekarn.
"I haven't really been in a pack such as this structure. Been a lone wolf long before Deimos found me, welcoming me into his home as an Einsame. Even then, we were all but vagabonds, living free from one another, but still had a territory that we called home. We didn't really hunt together or patrol together, we just kinda did it at the same time or whenever we were hungry." Ehrek sat down with Phrixos as he spoke. "When Deimos found the Sister Fates, we found our way here and the structure is... different..."
His ears and head lowered a bit.
"I... I kinda do everything because Heph hasn't given me a duty. A-as Deimos' mate, I figured that I had to have some sort of responsibility. So I go on my own patrols, or with Deimos, and I hunt with the pack, or on my own for stockpile, and I help with the pups to give the sitters a chance free of nipping maws and mewing whines, then I could lay with the other members so I can talk and converse with them so they get to know me. D-don't get me wrong, I don't do this because I am doing favors for others or mean to step upon their duties, no, I do my hardest s-so they know I am a hard worker and not a slacker. I don't want to disappoint the pack, Phrixos. I-I don't want to disappoint Deimos either."
Ehrek sighed under his breath after spilling out as that. Many times has his mind caught itself up in thoughts of random to complicated matters. Even times it strolls back down his memory to his past to his most precious of memories.
"I haven't even told Deimos that..." A half-hearted chuckle. "I bet he just sees me come back at night as an exhausted ball of fur curled up to his side."

Phrixos' ears twitched as he thought on the blue and black male's words, staring off into the distance. He quickly came to one conclusion, and felt sorry for the small male.
"Well...Sounds like you don't know how to relax, dude."
Rising, the black and green male grinned widely.
"C'mon. I need to show you something."
With that, Phrixos turned and jogged in the opposite direction. It would take a little bit to get there, but he thought it would be worth it in the long run. To his knowledge, he was the only one that knew of the place he was about to take Ehrek.

Ehrek sputtered. Not know how to relax!? The audacity! He knew how to relax, he just needed Big Red to lean up against or to sprawl out along the plains beyond the forest to stare up at the sky or listen to the rain... He whined to himself but kept his maw shut. Most of things he does do to relax he hasn't done since he started this routine...
"O-Okay." He replied as he followed suit of the other male. What was there to see? He may be a newcomer to the lands, but he must have seen everything there was to explore and patrol in these lands, right? The pine forest. The plateau cliff that descended deep into the forest below. The roaring waterfalls. The mountains to the north. Then there were the plains beyond the pine forest where he could walk among clouds.
"So... Phrixos, what do you think? About our alpha's relationship?" Ehrek asked sheepishly in passing. His mind was curious. It itched for answers to questions he was often too shy to ask, or afraid of being answered.

The young male looked back at his packmate, ears rolling to catch his question. "What do I think about it? What is there to think about it, little blue?" Truth be told, he had thought about it a lot when he had first met Deimos and Ehrek. Two males in a lifemate situation was a new thing to him, although he vaguely remembered the stories of poor Leto.
"Well, to be honest, I didn't know what to think of it at first. But, it makes sense, I guess."
They exited the trees and Phrixos grinned broadly at the sight of the puffy clouds coating the small, open plain that stretched before them. To their right, the den and the plateau could be seen in the distance, barely visible amongst the low lying cloud cover. He loved it up here, so high in the sky that they could run among the clouds.
But, they didn't turn to the den. The young male simply ran faster, their course staying straight and true. They would make the distant tree line in short order, and even now, his keen ears caught the soft sound of the river just beyond.

Little Blue? He thought quizzically, his head tilting just to make sure he caught that right. He did just call him "Little Blue". Strange, no one else has really given him strange names other than his mate and hearing it from someone else is strange... however, comforting that there was a level of friendship there. Ehrek simply asked out of curiosity. How did others view their relationship? Primarily on the male to male relationship he shared with Deimos. Was it unheard of in these parts? Personally, he found that mutual feelings between two should be accepted regardless of their age or gender. Secondarily, he wondered what the pack thought of his relationship to Deimos, an alpha male. Then again, if anyone objected to it, they either have had spoken to Hephaestus or Deimos and gotten reprimanded, or someone would have talked to Deimos about it. Since words have not gotten back to him that means that all is good. Right? The thought processing made the beta smile happily. Just as they passed into the clearing, Phrixos started to pick up speed. He was going to run? Ehrek stuttered a moment when realizing this before picking up speed himself. "O-oi! W-wait, where are we going!?" He cried out as he followed his fellow packmate. The clouds were low and visibility was just the same. Hopefully, he could keep up with him. ... That smell. A river? Ashtiel Pantheres He loved the feeling of the run, whether it was simply traveling from one destination to another, or a coordinated hunt, one or all of them running down the prey. Even when he played with his sisters and brother, they usually ended up chasing each other around at top speed if he had his way.
Now, though, it was a relaxing run that pumped his blood and filled him with joy. Not only that, but he was leading them to his favorite place in the entire pack lands. "Somewhere special. You can't tell anyone about it!"With that, the trees suddenly loomed before them, and he disappeared into their undergrowth.
To keep his place hidden, he never took the same path more then once, to keep from leaving a visible, worn trail. Usually he went farther north before going into the trees, but with the cloud cover, he doubted anyone saw them from the den.
The trees were so thick, that he finally slowed down. The sound of the river intensified, and he could see the glitter of the sun on the water through the breaks in the trees. This stretch of the river was less wide, and much faster as it neared the falls, which could be heard in the distance. But it was also peaceful here, the rush of the water over the rocks and the banks mixing well with the sound of birdsong and cicadas. PhiferWolf Ehrek had a troubled time keeping up with the running male through the cloud cover. How they were this high up in altitude was still incredible, yet breathtaking. The moisture that lingered in them clung to his fur like the morning dew on the grass. The air was rather clear and wet with each inhale. A looming shadow slowly emerged from the clouds, soon the green of leaves shown through with help from the sun. It was the rustling of foliage that told him that Phrixos had entered the forest again and he was to follow suit. Roots. Leaves. Twigs. Vines. Thump. Crack. Snap. Thud. Ow. Thump. Rustle. Rustle. Oo.... "Umf." The blue wolf grunted as he leaded headfirst into the clearing. Golden eyes looked up at the view beyond Phrixos' frame. The sound hear was clearer, the songs were quieter but just enough to not be bothersome and not as many to sound like an argument. The cicadas were out this time of year and their noise was... much more dim rather than the annoying din back where they were. The river was softer as well. Tranquility. Ehrek pulled the rest of his body from the forest's grasp, shaking his fur free of any stray stragglers from the travel. "Where are we?"

Ashtiel Pantheres "The river, duh. We're not there yet, by the way," Phrixos said over his shoulder, sticking his tongue out at Ehrek. He was in an amazing mood, knowing that his favorite place was only a few minutes ahead of them. How no one had found it yet was beyond him, and sometimes he laughed to himself that they alphas missed it when they went on their patrols. But who was he to complain? It was his own untouched wilderness.
He slowed down even more, realizing that Ehrek wasn't used to these stretches as he was. They rock hopped across a slow part of the river and followed a small stream that emptied itself into the larger body of water. Back into the woods they went, and it soon got even quieter, the cicadas replaced by birds and bands of sunshine.
And there it was. A simple, yet beautiful little pool of water fed by an underground spring. It was the start of this tiny stream, and it was his favorite spot to swim and relax. It was his and his alone...well, now it was Ehrek's too. PhiferWolf Ehrek followed cautiously, but observantly. He wanted to remember his way here and how to get back but, more so, take in the scenery. He hadn't ventured to these parts figuring that another one of the members were patrolling, so he stuck to the areas he knew such as the plateau cliff. Soon they arrived at a clearing with a small pond. What a quiet place. He walked about in awe, looking up at the canopy, the rays of light shining through the tiniest of openings. This place was perfect to be alone and to think. At the same time, during the travel to this place, he had forgotten what he was thinking about prior to Phrixos bringing up this place and then coming here. Wiggling his nose, he brushed it aside, there wasn't a point in thinking about it. If it was important he would have remembered, right? "Phrixos, w-what is this place?" He asked. "Is it even part of the pack lands?" Ashtiel Pantheres Sitting on his haunches, the male grinned with pride. He liked this feeling, of showing off his special retreat. Bi-colored eyes fairly glowing, he stood again, as if too excited to remain sitting for long. He kept looking back at the pool of water, large enough for both of them to have plenty of swimming room. "It's just outside the border. But I'm here so much, that no one would dare challenge me for it." With that, he took a running leap, splashing into the spring fed pond.
Phrixos was a wanderer at heart, but at the end of the day, this is what always drew him back home. A place of his own to enjoy, friends to entertain(and stalk), and family that loved him above all else.
He knew that their conversation would continue at some point, but right now, he wanted Ehrek to relax. After all, that was the whole point of this impromptu trip. "Relax, Ehrek. Come take a swim." PhiferWolf Ehrek stilled about a clearing taking everything in. This would be a prize to be won, that is for sure. It was secluded and it was quiet, a nice place to be. Surely someone would fight for it. Phrixos has just been lucky that no one has found it. Ehrek smirked. If they did, he would have to fight for it too. A splash from the pool triggered his reactive instincts to flinch and shield himself as Phrixos jumped in. "Hey!" He laughed. Phrixos beckoned him in and who was he to object since following him this far? Taking cautious steps, he loomed over the edge, looking at his own reflection. The ripples from his packmate wavering his image. The water was cool to the touch and it wasn't like he had any duties to actually do. According to Phrixos. "S-so, no one knows about this place? Do others go looking for you when you go missing coming here?" Ashtiel Pantheres "I'm a roamer, they all know that. When I leave, they know that I'll eventually come back. So no one really follows me, except my son. He's just like me," the male said with pride, diving under the water.
A year ago, he could have never done this. Having almost drowned as a pup, he had become deathly afraid of water. But time and love had gotten him over his fears, and now he swam almost as much as he ran. Just another thing to thank his pack for.
Lifting his head out of the water, he watched as a leaf slowly drifted down from the canopy above. "You can come here whenever you want, ok?"
