I'm having a hard time deciding on weapon/class types for DA2. I used to play as a dual wield warrior in Origins but they took that option out in DA2. I'm currently playing through as a Rouge to dual wield but it just doesn't feel the same. (Starfang/Vigilance combo too overpowered I guess...?).
Now I'm wondering if I should play a Sword and Shield character or Two-handed character. What do you guys think? Shield gives good defense although the wide arc damage of two handed swords are good as well.
Which style would be better in fighting against the harvester and Varterral in DA:O? Should I just scrap the swords and play it as a mage? Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Hmm, personally, I think playing as a warrior is boring. There aren't many good skills, just a lot of sustained modes, and even the specializations aren't that exciting. But out of the two of them, I liked two-handed weapon better because you deal out massive damage to multiple enemies, and you don't really need the defense because warrior armor/weaponry usually forces you to have high constitution anyway. You can always take Fenris and Aveline to a fight and compare them. If you haven't unlocked any specializations yet, you might want to give dual-weild rogue another chance. As you unlock more skills, rogue gets a lot more fun, and you can really impact what kind of rogue you want to be (mostly whether you want to hide in the shadows or stay in the line of fire but deal massive amounts of damage).
For me, mage was my favorite class because as you unlock more skills you become ridiculously powerful. The only thing is that you have to travel with a balanced party, preferably one with someone that generates high threat. It's also nice that you're no longer dependent on Anders as a healer if you're a mage. If you have a balanced party, you don't even need to specialize in Spirit Healing, just know the upgraded heal spell. Basically, being a mage means you get to trade Anders and his snarky comments for Fenris and his snarky comments. X3

in this game i personally prefer to duel wield so i like using the daggers and or short swords in all honesty cause sure being able to use a gaint sword can be fun or wielding a knights weaponry can be fun but its more fun mostly for me to act more like a ninja duel wielding and killing with deadly skill!

Cross? Rogue only use daggers this time They REALLY buffed up the DPS of dual wielding this time around. And it is all dexterity and cunning. (a bit of consti and stamina but not much) The DPS is off the hook for a good rogue. They shine the higher they get in level too. Fighter with a shield...I don,t know, I don,t enjoy it, I let Aveline use her chin...I mean shield and her sword 2 handed weapon? Take care, this time around, you can hurt the people of your team in higher difficulties Very useful ability but you have to take a bit more care. It reminds me more of my 2 handed sword wearing rogue in DA o (believe it is not a good idea? Ever came across that sword giving huge bonus to backstabbing in the first game? yeah, that was the idea. Was a nice build)
A mage, well, it depends in which difficulty, seriously. This time around things are fast enough so that huge AoE spells are only usable once on an attack except if you really take time to manually move everyone and put hem on hold. no moere spell throwing torugh a door, and since ennemies "ambush you" (aka spawn on your head after the first wave) all the time, you have to rely on smaller spells (Which is still pretty effective. And Isabella is a life saver for any mage with her abilities to come back and fight back to back with a mage hawke...as soon as my Hawkes get a bit of damage, her comes isabella and she taunt while I use a bit of magic. Give some credit to poor isabella
I'd say go for mage on casual or normal at first, and go for rogue on hard or nightmare. Rogue DPS just is crazy.
(On a side note, the 3 class package are pretty worth it in my opnion)
