I'm going all-out ninja for this. Ever play Tenchu? That's the kind of ninja I'm talking about. Ever play Ninja Gaiden on Xbox? That's NOT what I'm talking about.

1. Table of Contents/Introduction/Rules <--- You are here

2. Shinobi Clans/Ninja Rankings

3. Ninja Weapons/Tools

4. Character Creation/Accepted Characters

5. Summary

Rules

1. Maximum of four characters per person
2. All characters belonging to the same person must be in different clans and of different ranks.
3. Gaia TOS applies.
4. During fights between PCs, please consult the person you're fighting so you don't get lame, one paragraph posts. Work together on a battle scene.
5. Be theatric! Cling to cielings, hide in shadows, dart across rooftops. Be a true ninja! And, if you're fighting a PC, do something that leaves them to be alive or an opening to save themselves. If this happens to you, don't jump back at full strength (suddenly) and fight them again. That's moding. Suggestions are a K.O., a sketchy-looking 'kill,' or throwing them into a pit or something. And please, if you join this, you have to be willing to lose once in awhile, especially if you're of lower ranking than the person you're facing.
6. Have fun, or else ninjas will hunt you down.

Shinobi Clans

The Shinobi Clans are stationed all over Japan. They have their own territories, satellite villages (for lack of a better term) and their own home base, if you will.

Clan Map

Black = Oni
Yellow = Tora
Red = Ryu
Orange = Kage

List of Clans

The Oni Clan - This clan is perhaps the weakest of the clans. The Oni clan focuses primarily on money. While most ninja villages are self-sufficient with farmers, clandestine trade and so forth, this clan is the only affluent one in Japan. They pay their ninjas, and often do dirty work for governments and shady figures. In doing so, they often prey on innocents and are highly dishonorable. Other ninja refer to the Oni Clan as common thugs. The Oni Clan ninja are often cowardly in the face of other ninja, and are comparatively weak. Some of this Clan's Master Ninja could easily be felled by a Head or even Greater Ninja from another. This clan either buys food or steal it. As a matter of fact, this Clan is the only that is bereft of a village. The ninja report to a sensei based somewhere atop a mountain in their territory, and have messengers that deliver scrolls with instructions from the sensei himself.

The Ryu Clan - This clan has one of the wisest senseis, and therefore the wisest ninja. Their mind capabilities are amazing, sensing enemies even better than their foes. Comparatively, however, they are physically weak, and also have trouble using weapons at times. This clan is self-sufficient, unlike the Oni Clan, and the Ryu Clan is also one of the most honorable clans, only taking jobs in their interest or in the interest of good. They are mediocre traders and farmers, but they get by.

The Tora Clan - This clan is the most fierce that Japan has ever seen. Often using swords or no weapons at all, the Tora ninja are renowned for their honorable but nonetheless bloody work. They have the strongest and fastest ninjas of the clans, but they have great difficulty being stealthy. This village is also self-sufficient, preferring to farm instead of trade.

The Kage Clan - This clan is the sneakiest of them all, being able to infiltrate entire castles with no casualties save for the target of assassination. This clan is highly honorable and only attacks when necessary, which is why they have so few territory. Some do not like their ways, calling them cowards, which is why the Kage Clan is slowly dwindling, with even Lesser Ninja being few and far between. This village is self-sufficient, using clandestine trade to keep alive, due to their lack of territory.

Ninja Rankings

Student: A ninja in training. They go over the basics, and then they go on to actually becoming a ninja, actually going on missions.

Lesser Ninja: Above students, but lowest actual ninja ranking. These are those who have yet to prove themselves by going on enough missions.

Greater Ninja: Above Lesser Ninjas, these ninjas have proven themselves in the eyes of their sensei. They report to Head Ninja, Master Ninja, and the Sensei.

Head Ninja: A leader of his own group of ninjas, the Head Ninja ranking is proof of above-average achievement.

Master Ninja: These are those that seem to have had the potential to be masters of cunning, stealth and killing in their very blood. Able to clear out villages within minutes, Master Ninjas are few and far between.

Sensei: The sensei is the master of the ninja village. While old and seemingly helpless, there are legends of elderly sensei defeating hordes of samurai and ninja alike.

Ninja Weapons/Tools

Weapons

I'm not going to go too overboard on restrictions. You can't, however, be unrealistic with your weapons. Magic doesn't exist in the conventional sense of lightening one's weapon or making it unnaturally sharp. Be realistic, please. Realize that some weapons make noise during their use. People (and things) will notice this noise if it's loud enough.

Also, you can't have too many weapons. Shinobi don't have pocket dimensions that can hold everything in a small little teardrop-shaped satchel.

Most Shinobi went for wakizashis, tantos, kamas, katars, and other small, bladed weapons. But choose what you like. They almost never used polearms, so keep that in mind as well.

Tools

I'm giving out a set list of tools. If you want to make a suggestion, PM it to me. Note that I won't have a list of tools included in your profile. This is because your sensei will let you use them before disembarking on a mission.

1. Shuriken -- This includes any thrown weapon. The stereotypical 'star,' needles, kunai, throwing daggers, and so forth.

2. Bows -- Usually short bows, and they were only used outdoors only.

3. Smoke Bombs -- Really only useful indoors, where they can blind and sting the eyes of those nearby. Keep in mind that unlike in Tenchu, you are not immune to your own weapons.

4. Grappling Hook -- A must-have for any ninja, this allows transportation to higher levels, rooftops, and so forth.

5. Scrolls -- These can do a variety of things. Some contain magics that can make one spew fire forth from between their lips, others have spells of invisibility scribed upon them. Note that as they are magic, these words are ephemeral once read, and if one is distracted when reading them, the scroll is wasted. Get creative with these, but don't go overboard.

6. Caltrops -- Used for evasion, caltrops are four-pointed, sharp objects reminiscent of jacks that are scattered about and slice through sandals and flesh alike, causing extreme pain to those who tread upon them. Watch your step!

7. Healing Potions -- A must-have for any ninja that isn't too sneaky, these restore health so quickly that some have called it instant healing. However, the entire potion must be embibed to get the healing required for anything.

NOTE: Do not list these tools in your profile under "weapons." Doing so will probably get you denied or have your profile sent back to you for revision (probably both, since they kind of mean the same thing). These will be given to you/taken by you on missions. Also, be reasonable. These tools are VERY DIFFICULT TO COME BY. Most ninja clans will have to raid other clans to get them. Be very very frugal with tools, please, and don't overuse/waste them.

ALSO: These tools are the only kind that will be used. No explosives, no poisons, etc. It's really just moding, when you think about it.

Accepted Characters:
Numbers subject to change
Students:
1.
2.

Lesser Ninja:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Greater Ninja:
1.
ValenarrDeMirro
Character Name: Asamoya Kyoshi
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Clan/Rank: Kage/Greater Ninja
Weapon: Wakizashi, also uses the sheath as a bludgeon
Appearance: Kyoshi is short, standing at about five feet and seven inches. His hair is grey, his eyes greyish blue. He wears almost entirely grey, wearing a more karate gi-like outfit. He carries his blade on his back, the blade upturned and the hilt coming out at his hip. Kyoshi is thin, lithe and hardly muscled at all.
Personality: Kyoshi is uncharactaristically friendly for a Kage shinobi. Nobody really knows why, either. It's just the way he is, and nobody can really explain it. He doesn't have much of a temper, but in combat he goes cold, uncaring and sometimes even downright mean.

2.
3.
4.

Head Ninja:
1.
ValenarrDeMirro
Character Name: Nakamaru Seiji
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Clan/Rank: Tora/Head Ninja
Weapon: Nunchaku and unarmed combat
Appearance: Seiji has fiery, brilliant crimson hair and starkly contrasting, deep blue eyes. Seiji, like many Tora Clan Shinobi, is built well muscularly, and is swift on his feet, with his hands, and is one of the strongest in his village, save for the Master Ninja amongst his clan and the Sensei himself. Seiji is somewhat tall, standing at five feet and eleven inches. He often wears black, a puffier overshirt over a skintight undergarment that comes up over his nose and mouth, with black pants that are slightly wider at the bottom and come into narrower ankle-cuffs to soft-soled shoes made of black cloth that are ideal for sneaking, not that he does much of that.
Personality: To Seiji, all that matters is strength of the body. His mind, therefore, is somewhat numb, but this is not to say he is stupid. He is just as intelligent as the next ninja, but his senses, that of sensing an enemy before the enemy is seen, is less than perfect. While it is not nonexistant like some of the ninja in the Tora clan, he has difficulty with it.

2.
3.
4.

Master Ninja:
1.
ValenarrDeMirro
Character Name: Anaguma Kori
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Clan/Rank: Oni/Master Ninja
Weapon: A massive broadsword and a blade tonfa that curls upwards in the front. Is long enough to be turned around and have the curled part at the elbow, with the point in front.
Appearance: Kori looks as mean as he is. Completely missing one eye, Kori wears a black mask over that side of his face, giving it the appearance of not even being present in complete darkness. His hair is black and short, the rest of his face covered in scars. He wears a pair of leather straps that come up from his waist and over his shoulders, like suspenders but come out over his shoulders into a point, and can be used to house shurikens (think something like a Mortal Kombat ninja outfit). Underneath this shirt is a tightly-woven black mesh shirt. His pants are black and tight, his shoes black and soft-soled. He always wears black gloves. He is tall and muscular, standing at about six feet and three inches. He is just about as powerful as a Tora Clan ninja of average rank, but not quite as fast. He also has very little training in Ki sense, but enough to tell when enemies are just around corners.
Personality: Mean, brutal, and a dirty fighter, Kori isn't one to back down. Certainly not a coward, some question why Kori doesn't go against the Oni Sensei himself. Kori would answer that that wouldn't get him any money, and he likes doing dirty work just fine.

2.
3.
4.

Sensei (One per Clan):
1.
LightOfTheDark
Character Name: Nikama Murasami
Gender: Female
Age: 47
Clan/Rank: Kage/Sensei
Weapon: None usually, she has retired her blade, leaving it on display in her hut, but still carries her Jutte (kinda like a police-man's night-stick, but slimmer and tapered to a blunt point), Named 赤水 and 氷 (Roughly translated as 'Red water and Ice') These caricatures are etched into the Wakizashi and Jutte, Ice in the steel-forged Jutte, and Red Water in the Wakizashi, the short sword now sits in it's cherry-wood sheath, laqured and painted black with flowing red designs of water on it. The Jutte is made as a pair to the Wakizashi, the haft wrapped in black cord and blue designs etched into the blade around the characture.
Appearance: As an older woman, she is not as limber and fast as she used to be, her face is still smooth except for laugh lines around her mouth and crows-feet at the corners of her eyes. Eyes as black as the midnight sky still seem youthful in her sun-darkened face, her black hair winged with grey and always kept in a top-knot. Her body is slim, and her bust-size quite small, but her limbs show muscle that has never gone soft, toughened and solid like oak-roots. Nikama moves with a slow, deliberate grace of one who spent they're life trying to move quietly. She wears common, loose-fitting kimono's made for everyday wear and tear, and always wears soft-leather shoes.
Personality:Nikama Murasami is a kindred spirit, but strict and just when disiplining her students or the ninja's in her village. The way she laughs and smiles so much would fool so many and never make them think for a moment that she was once so deadly a killer as so many in her village. She has a light-step for a woman her age, and a sharp, rough kind of humor men would usually use among themselves. She's not against getting her hand dirty, and has no husband, so she cooks for herself most of the time, or eats with others. She likes her alone time though, and is very sharp about being interupted by anyone when practising every morning, keeping her body fit through a series of physically straining patterns. She loves children, which is why she enjoys being sensei so much. And she is very careful about what kind of money and produce the village has, always making sure that everyone has enough to live on, and that they are kept safe.

2.
ValenarrDeMirro
Character Name: Kusarino Shingai
Gender: Male
Age: 49
Clan/Rank: Ryu/Sensei
Weapon: He has an assortment of weapons that involve chains. One is a pair of chained kamas, another is a kama that is chained to a mace-like cylinder made of studded wood. His greatest weapons, though, are his senses.
Appearance: Shingai wears mostly dull grey robes and no shoes whatsoever. It is important to note, as well, that Shingai has no pupils nor irises, simply white eyes. He can still 'see,' however, all though his handicap for having no visual apparatus hindered him greatly during his early days as a shinobi. Now, however, Shingai can see perfectly using his Ki sense, and can even expand his senses in a full bubble around him. Shingai also has greying hair that was once black, and no facial hair. He is slim and almost appears to some to be malnourished. Despite standard Ryu training, he's as fast as a shinobi from the Tora or Kage Clan.
Personality: Shingai is cold, despite his wisdom and kindness. He often comes off as emotionless. Very rarely does a shinobi invoke his wrath or even anger, and when he does get angry, most shinobi, even from other clans, back off. Shingai can be very personable, however, and some say that he still longs for the love that he was denied in his youth due to his lack of sight.

Summary

-- The Oni Clan has made an example of a small village to those within its territory, showing what happens when people don't pay their debts. Anaguma Kori razed the village, which also happened to be his own home. Now, Kori is searching for another village to live in.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2006 6:12 pm

(Guess I gotta start xp )

A rainy night in a village sets this stage, this stage of death, desolation, and slaughter.

The raindrops were tears, sent down by angels, bound to the heavens, unable to do anything but weep for the slaughter they witnessed.

This was yet another nameless village in the middle of Japan, deep in Oni Clan territory, and next on the list for debt collection.

The debt collector had a name, and his name was feared. Anaguma Kori, and he knew no mercy, no way to stop blood from flowing once it was spilled, until there were no more bags of such crimson liquid to be torn asunder.

A blade flashed through the night, a half of a face visible to those around in the pitch black, though the tears of the night sky fell upon a full head, along with the crimson tears the body let out as the soul departed for whatever fate awaited it.

Anaguma Kori stood in a bloodied village square, the rain serving to wash away the blood from the corpses, from his blades, the massive, slightly curved broadsword over his shoulder, and the tonfa-like blade he held, the curve in front of his fist that held the handle. A freshly-killed corpse was before him, the last in this village.

It was over. And he had won singlehandedly, and collected the debt they owed his Sensei. They were offered their protection, but they failed to pay, and so they turned on them. That's how things worked in Oni territory.

Kori's half-face turned to the side, beholding the bloodied bodies that he had swept through in such a tempestuous manner that it had shaken the foundations of some of the more fragile buildings. One was even wrecked, smashed by the flat of his broadsword as he had brought it back for another swing, another trip through flesh, organ and bone.

But now it was over, and no more lives were left in this village. Men, women, and children corpses littered the town square, their blood washed away by the cleansing tears of the angels above.

Soon, the tears ceased, the eyes of the angels above dry. Perhaps they had ceased mourning, or perhaps they had busied themselves with the new arrivals to their realm. Kori didn't care. He had his orders, and produced a scroll from his belt, one his Sensei gave him.

He read the scroll in a concentrated whisper, all that was required, taking his attention off of it for a moment, lest the scroll be wasted and ruined.

Now that the scroll was read, its text faded, and he cast it aside, and turned to the nearest building. He opened his jaws, which were visible on one side of his half-masked face. The back of his throat gave off an unearthly glow of orange and red, and from betwixt his jaws came a torrent of flame that poured onto the nearest building. It was almost instantly set aflame, and he swiveled in place and made an effort to propel the flames onto the other buildings as well, starting a ring of fire from the main village square and outwards. He had calculated that nothing would be left after this.

Now that his work was done, Kori went off to find a new home, since his would be burned in a few moments.

((Damn.. that means I actually don't have a reason to not post xp Well.. I'll give this my best shot.. I think I might make another character...cause my sensei probably won't be going too many places sweatdrop ))

The rain pounded on the bamboo thatched roofs in the small forest village that concealed it. It's steady pitter-patter on the leaves of the bamboo plants outside the only sound heard apart from merry talking under a building with no walls, a fire blazing in the middle of this place the only source of heat as people talked and ate. People in simple kimono's that could afford to stay awake this late.

This was definately NOT where one elder woman was. She lay on her sleeping mat in a small, bamboo house near the edge of the town, unable to sleep though weariness dragged at her eyes.

The torrent outside was saying something, whispering, sorrowful as it fell from the sky. But what?

'Something sad...' Nikama Murasami answered herself, though it wasn't the whole of the answer, just a part.

Sitting up, she ran a hand through hair just past her shoulders, cut abruptly as if done with a slide-rule. Gray hair winged out from her temples, and dark eyes looked at the roof, a mirror of the sadness that the rain now murmured as it began to dwindle, and finally stop. Rubbing her temples, the former ninja stood up silently from her bed, walking over to the small cook fire, the coals still red and kept in a bronze smelted, sand-filled bowl.

Blowing on the coals, Nikama sprinkled a handful of dried bamboo splinters onto the coals, making it flare to life as she added more wood, and set herself to make some tea.

Maybe that would help her sleep.

Though it was night, he recalled that the Sensei had wished to see him sometime during the night, that perhaps she wished to speak to him about something. Spirits knew what. She was a Sensei, and the Sensei of the Kage clan, nonetheless. Sensei worked in mysterious ways, mimicking the spirits that they often joined in their late years of life.

While this Sensei was older, she was certainly one of the younger ones, and this Shinobi would have to remember to mind his manners. He was a mere Greater Ninja, nothing compared to some of this village's Head or Master Ninja, let alone the Sensei herself.

The Kage Clan shinobi made haste, dashing up the steps to the home of the Sensei, but did not rush through the doors. His blade rested on his back as it always did, its hilt poking out beside his hip, the blade turned up as to not dull it from gravity's force and its own weight.

Always in bare feet, this Shinobi did not have to worry about taking off his shoes to enter. Despite it being rainy prior to his visit, his feet were miraculously clean, as if his senses had allowed him to avoid every mud puddle there was on his path.

He raised his bare hand to the wooden part of the paper and wood door and knocked softly, hoping not to disturb the Sensei. He hoped she hadn't forgotten her request to see him. It was not that he worried that his Sensei had lost her ability to retain memories, it was just that she was human, like anybody else... she could... forget.

The unnaturally grey-haired, younger shinobi awaited an answer, his grey-blue eyes watching the door carefully, as if his answer could be visual.

((Damn! That's mean Val! gonk xp ))

She had felt him coming once he was about twenty feet from her house, and waited for him to knock before calling softly.

"You may enter Asamoya." Though she mentally cursed, her brow wrinkling as she had remembered that she had summoned him to come at this time. But that dissapeared quickly as she took another cup from the small cupboard and put the water on the boil, the fire crackling merrily now as a smile replaced the frown.

"Join me for some tea?" She asked warmly, her dark eyes turning towards the door he would have to enter through to get to the room she was in. "And wipe your feet on the mat." She added in. Nikama knew the ninja's habit of not wearing anything on his feet, and insisted that it did not track any form of filth into any building. But dirt was on stone paths, dust on wooden floors, and water when it was raining.

This Sensei had something for this boy to do, and right now she was running out of options as to who to send. The Kage were dying out, and something needed to be done about it...
PostPosted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 6:17 pm

(Sorry xd I just wanted some character interaction. Oh, and Lighty, my names are all presented in traditional Japanese, so his actual name is Kyoshi. She might just be calling him Asamoya because of business or whatever, but just a reminder xp )

Asamoya Kyoshi entered his Sensei's home, wiping his feet on the mat as she had indicated. "Of course, Sensei." He said respectfully, bowing slightly as he came into her home with clean feet. "And I would be honored to have tea with you, Sensei." He said. This was true. He hadn't really heard of anyone having tea with the Sensei. Then again, maybe it wasn't such a big deal.

But Kyoshi was doing his best to be respectful.

"Sensei..." Kyoshi asked. "Did you feel... while it was raining... that spirits were crying over a great tragedy?" He asked quizzically. He had no idea what had given him that feeling, but it just had felt that way.

"I'm certain it was nothing, but that is just how it felt to me." He said somewhat sheepishly.

((Probably the males are.. but females so far as I've known have usually been named by their first names... I know your character isn't female.. blaugh But thank you for the tip))

Not pausing in setting the cups out as she threw a handful of the pungent tea-leaves she kept in a tin-lined box by the fire. Her warm, almost motherly smile was replaced with a thin-lipped, mysterious one.

"Ah, young Kyoshi, I see you've a fine mind. You have trained it well. I have felt it as well." removing the now boiling water from the fire, she set it to the side to steep while she talked to him.

"I have an important mission for you, and I have heard high praises of your talent and determination. Are you willing to take on such a task Greater Ninja Kyoshi?" Looking straight up into his eyes with her clear, penetrating black ones, It was if she was delving into his mind for the answer herself instead of just asking him.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 07, 2006 5:00 am

When she commented on his mind, he flushed slightly. "It is only because of your training, Sensei. Without your teachings, I would be nothing." Then he heard of a mission.

"I... I would be honored, Sensei." Kyoshi said, bowing. He had no idea why she would entrust an important mission with a mere Greater Ninja, not a Head Ninja, or a Master Ninja.

"I give my service and my life, if need be." Kyoshi reminded her. He was loyal as always to the Kage clan.

"Good. Have a seat then." Lifting the tea-pot, she poured two cups of steaming hot jasmine tea. Oddly enough, Sensei Murasami couldn't stand the taste of green tea, disliking the bitter and almost both-like taste of the foul drink.

After pouring, she set the pot to the side and lifted her cup to her lips on steady finger-tips, inhaling the delicate scent before continuing.

"I need you to investigate the Oni Clan... They've been up to some odd things lately, and I would like to know what it is out of cautions sake. I do not like to be surprised and unprepared." Taking a sip of the hot drink, she made a soft slurping noise as she drank the first mouthful quickly so as not to scald her lips or tongue.

"Do you believe your up to the challenge?" The sensei looked at him again, her face fairly weathered, the crows-feet at the corners of her eyes a strong contrast to her sharp, young eyes.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 20, 2006 4:47 am

Kyoshi sat down and took a sip of the tea, as if commanded to.

Luckily he hadn't been taking a sip of his tea when she indicated that she wished for him to investigate the Oni Clan. They were just about the complete opposites of the Kage Clan. No honor, no stealth, and all strength.

"What kind of... odd things, Sensei? If I may ask..." He added hastily, still remembering, and quite well, his rank.

"I believe that I can do it, it is just that..." He looked up from the table and made the possible mistake of looking at his Sensei's face. He made no eye contact, but made it look like he was.

"Those in the Oni Clan are scum, Sensei." Kyoshi said, perhaps overstepping his codes of discipline. "I'm... I'm sorry for that outburst." He apologized quickly, returning his gaze to the table.

Smiling at the outburst of the young ninja, Nikama placed a hand on kyosha's shoulder.

"Yes, they are dogs, but they are still ninja, and the spirits seem to be telling you as well as they have told me that something was amiss tonight. From what I've heard lately, something has been going on among the Oni. They have grown powerful, though weak in many ways. And our deteriorating clan will survive, even if I have to take up the sword and mask again, I will for the honor of the Kage clan."

Resting back again, she took another, longer sip of her tea, closing her eyes a moment as if enjoying it immensly.

"And to answer your second question, Odd things such as member's, even whole villages, of their own clan dead, with no other clan to lay blame to. Well, they've tried to lay blame, but in such a crude way that the styles of the deaths could only point to themselves alone."

Could there be dissention in the Oni? Could the Kage exploit this to their advantage to take back some lost ground? Nikama would need to find out the information this young one could gather first before she made any serious decisions.

"And I'm glad you are confident, but don't be overconfident. The oni may be scum, but they arn't stupid.. Gather your things tomorrow, you leave before the sun sets next evening."

With that final note, clearly a dismissal, she went back to her tea, favoring him with one more smile.
