The snow was falling softly in the evening twilight. The flakes landed delicately, slowly covering up life and all its troubles with a clean coat of pure white. The softest of breezes blew, causing the snow to start to land in drifts. Deep green evergreen branches shivered, divesting themselves of some of their snow.

Bells jingled softly in this almost lifeless landscape. Moving through the snow was a sleek and graceful silver figure trailing red ribbons from her long, silky tail of palest blue and pale lavender. Icy blue hooves picked their way sadly over the snow, still lively enough to try to leave no tracks in the snow. As snowflakes landed on the mare, she periodically shook her silver wings with their feathers that matched her mane and tail. Somehow, even though silver winter bells were usually cheery, these bells sounded lonely.

Adelle smiled sadly. These winter lands reminded her of her old home, of the time before she met her beloved Shihab and learned to fly. Back then, she only feared the wolves that preyed on young and defenseless Soquili.

Now, she had other worries. Her family would be safe with Shihab. Without her there, they could not grow up evil. Without her there, Neva wouldn't attack them. Without her there, Skinwalkers and Kalonas would leave her family alone.

She was so wrapped up in these lonely thoughts that she didn't notice anyone else in this darkening snowy world.

User ImageThe young foal wondered through the snow, though he was still confused by the white that littered the ground. he kept licking it, but no matter what it tasted like water. Ojichaag Zoosoobanjige wondered around, he was lost but had no idea what that meant.

Ojichaag knew a few things... to eat the green stuff from the ground, drink water, his name, the mare that was his mother (but he did not know to call her mother) and that he had another born at the same time as him. but he lacked the normal education that parents would teach to their children. He was not even use to seeing others around

The young boy had no direction, no nothing, he did not even look when bells lightly chimed, talking to him, telling him that someone was near. He paid no attention to the wind, or even the one, single creak of some insect who had not settled down for winter. the boy was only interested in the white snow. as more flakes started to fall Ojichaag stuck out his large tongue accidentally catching a fake. he was shocked and moved back, into the path of the silver mare. his white eyes wide and staring at his tongue as it was out of his mouth still.

Adelle didn't notice the pale mutant kelpie colt stumbling into her path in surprise from the snowflake until she almost tripped over him. She stared down at the little tyke, her depression disappearing at the sight of a lone foal in this winter world. A lone foal, without his mother around to care for him. Uncertain but feeling motherly instinct, she gently reached down to nose the colt in front of her. Her motions were delicate, not wanting to spook the colt any more than was necessary.

As she moved, the bell hung on her right ear jingled, the sole sound in that silent moment in that whitewashed world. Adelle's breath was held for a moment that felt like an eternity. In that terrible and wonderful moment while she waited for him to notice her, a thousand terrifying and hopeful thoughts crossed her mind, thoughts of caring for him, only to mess up again; thoughts of caring for him, and for him loving her as much as her good children loved her. These thoughts whirled madly in her mind as she held her breath.

Ojichaag himself startled and fell. As his white eyes laid on the full grown mare. He honesty did not know there were others out there... he should have guessed it, figured there were more out there then just himself and the two females he knew. But it was hard to think like that when you did not know much, did not know what the world held.

the blue haired male pushed himself back as the bell jingled again. His wide eyes straining to see what it was that made it make that noise. Ojichaag's eyes did not blink as much as others, and now his eyes seemed to stay opne forever.

As his mouth opened to speak more snow flakes started to fall. the start of them on his tongue made him push away from the others that fell, moving closer to the mare in front of him

Adelle's icy blue eyes widened as she glimpsed his eyes under his periwinkle mane. Was this little one blind? He didn't seem to be, since he seemed to know very well where everything was around him, and the falling snow muffled too much sound for him to rely on his hearing. In addition, he appeared to open his eyes wider and seemed to be getting a good look at her.

As he stumbled forward from the feel of snowflakes on his tongue, Adelle had to muffle the smallest of giggles. She arched her head over the colt to shelter him from the snow, her long silky mane falling to the side like a living curtain and her bell jingling again softly. He seemed as surprised by falling snow as any other foal during their first winter, and seeing his responses to the falling snow began to rekindle an instinct in her that she hadn't felt since Cygnus, Alienore, and Lavanya were born.

Ojichaag was a bit shocked again when the mare covered him over he looked up at her. the bell chimed again but the boy did not move away, instead he moved his head and tongue up, stretching and chiming the bell himself. Finding he liked the noise as well as the hint of taste he got from her.

A smiled filled his face as he pulled his tongue back in. Not having the biggest vocabulary his communication was limited but as he looked at the mare in front of him he managed one word, "Who?"

Adelle had to giggle softly at the colt who jingled her bell and then licked her. It tickled, and the innocent gesture tugged at old heartstrings, delicately calling on her to care for this little one. As she giggled, her bell continued to jingle, this time with merriment to match its owner's mood.

Adelle smiled at his question. "I'm Adelle, little one. What's your name?" she asked, extending a muzzle as she considered nuzzling him. At the back of her mind, her fears attempted to surge forward, but slipped away at the sight of the colt who seemed surprised and pleased by her bell. Did he have a mother? Where was she? She must be looking for him....

But as she gazed into his white eyes, she couldn't ask him, not yet. That question would have to come later.

"Name?" Blank eyes looked at the mare, processing what was asked of him. After a moment he put together that 'who' and 'name' had a similar base behind asking. "Name, Ojichaag Zoosoobanjige" he smiled a little. The one thing he knew for sure was what he was called. He did not know the tradition or language behind his name... or even what it meant other then it meant him.

When the mare touched him was not scared, nor did he flinch. He did not understand her gestures at first. It took him a moment to feel the comfort and warmth she was offering in the simple movement and once he did, he tried to return it. Ojichaag was very awkward though, his head not moving in a soft or gental way, instead a bit more jerky and fast.

The colt didn't seem used to communicating with Soquili, so he must be alone, either physically or in spirit. That didn't seem right, but now wasn't the time to worry about his family. "Ojichaag Zoosoobanjige. That's quite a long name. May I call you Ojichaag?" she asked warmly.

His gesture was jerky and fast, but he clearly wasn't afraid of her. She reached out her own pale pink muzzle and rubbed it against his white one in a slow, smooth way, feeling his young velvety nose against hers. The back part of her mind was crying out that she should leave before the two got attached and she messed up and Neva found them...but...the presence of the lonely colt in front of her reaching out in an affectionate manner to another Soquili for perhaps the first time in her life refused to permit such dark and fearful thoughts to cross her mind. In front of her was someone who needed her, and what Adelle did best in times like these was to reach out to others with her heart.
