There was a bang on Cherry Tree Hill, then a frantic shout of "Don't panic, I've got it, I've got it!" In the air, a kite was burning and gently falling earthwards, while below, a boy was on the ground trying to catch it. It didn't seem like the best of ideas to try to catch something that was on fire, but the boy seemed fairly determined about the whole affair, so presumably he knew what he was doing.
Sun Huojin squinted at the sky as he tried to catch the device, frowning at it. "It's too big to burn to ash before it hits the ground, so it might be useful to start a conflagration or something. But that's a little too violent, don't you think? I mean, yeah, we're in a war, but people could get hurt."
He paused.
"Like, more hurt than usual."
There was no one around him to talk to, and anyone who happened to be looking on was doing so from a safe distance. In fact, he appeared to simply be talking to himself for the sake of it, all the while, the burning kite was drifting closer to the ground, or his head, whichever it hit first. "Anyay, it's a possibility, but I think I'm going to stick to scare tactics for now. The size was nice for that, though, maybe if I use something that can propel it higher?" A gleam came into his eyes. "That would mean one of the really big rockets, wouldn't it! And Baba would definitely let me make them if it was for the war effort, he was always hesitant before. Yeah, this is practically patriotic though, so..."
He grinned broadly. "This war is great!" he enthused, the more pressing issues at hand long forgotten.
The burning kite was right above his head now.

A’Meiya was feeling alive! The last time she had a moment like this was when she had finally completed a set of 12 back flips with out smashing her face against the dojo wall. Or the time she had eaten six oranges one after the other for the title of “The Greatest Lunarian Ever” aka orange eater. It had been a momentous occasions and simple maths. There was fruit. There was A’Meiya. There was lust and greed. Lust won. Greed happened to give bad gas if A’Meiya recalled correctly but she wasn’t about to ponder on that! Not this day, for it was simply beautiful! The sun was shining, birds were dancing up above, the world was sweet again and there were hours before the darken dusk would claim this place to horrors untold. And she wasn’t prepared to waste it all indoors! Her feet did the talking as she was lead through the quaint district of her family home, she was extremely lucky to be living on the ‘richer’ side of the city even though she had no interest in wealth. Happiness came in more colours than gold or silver.
As she traveled she lavished the waking citizens of Lunaria with her well known grin, pulled faces at the children and stole an apple from a cart as it passed her by, her only currency being pure cheek when she was caught. Ducking and weaving between rambunctious barrack buddies who wanted nothing more than to train with her, to the snobs that wouldn’t give her the time of day she laughed and smiled and was contently happy. She even found the time to shout out in a crowded square to old Pother Nix, an old family friend. She was mulling over that little fact as she walked up towards the cherry tree with pure confusion on her features. Apparently asking how his piles were doing would result in her being chased down the street by his angry apprentice. “What is the world coming to if you can’t ask a soul about their health without being threaten within an inch of your life! Tch!” she laughed as she bit into the green apple, its flavors filling her mouth with tangy sweetness. She was oblivious to all, her line of vision resting on the hill she was soon to conquer during her walk. Catching movement she watched a body hunched over something, setting something up maybe? "Ohh maybe a performer?...ahh but its not the season for artists to putting on the street shows just yet" It would be a small pleasure to know that in the future these two would have one thing in common and it would be their unfailing ability to talk to themselves and enjoy it, sadly on the other hand there were many a things they wouldn’t agree on, one being...
*BANG* "Don't panic, I've got it, I've got it!"
A’Meiya could have wet herself right then. Her apple forgotten, discarded on the green grass she stared petrified at the explosion she had just seen in the sky...well firework. The remnants of a blazing kite were swiftly making its way towards a young boy, his hands eager to claim the fiery prize.
“Oh Goddess! It’s a crazy person!” She watched as the kite got closer, and closer. He was going to hurt himself! Her fear forgotten she made her legs move against the shakes as she pounded up the hill to him. As she reached the top she over heard his ramblings of the war and was even more sure he had taken a blow to the head. It was a steep climb and by the end of it she was panting, her body hunched over as she rested her hands on her knees trying to catch her breath.
“Crazy…person…explosions in sky…don’t touch…fire, bad for you…need to...breath more when...running....” She felt like keeling over then…and she did just that. Allowing herself to fall to the ground she sat back on long legs, her skirt covering her as she peered up at the young lunarian. She studied him for a second before breaking out in to one of her smiles, almost squealing at him if it were possible.
“I can’t believe you wanted to catch that!" she laughed, her hands coming to clap in front of her. "Are you addled in the brain? My Ma's second cousin twice removed has that, he got it from a bad egg, or a fall...?" She furrowed her brows together thinking and then waved a hand dismissing it. "Either way I wouldn't advise setting light to anymore of those things, scared me out of my wits! If Master Yomo knew he would skin my backside for being so fratched by them!"
If Huojin though she had lost the plot already, sadly it was only the beginning,
