Cyllene was once again lurking by the shore. She was following a small, shiny fish. Her eyes were locked on it tightly as she followed it's movements perfectly. She darted this way, then that a way. Then back around in a loop. It's flashing blue stripe was mesmerizing. She giggled as she blew a few bubbles, wondering if she should try to trap it. But she didn't want to eat it, it was too pretty!
The fish turned again sharply. The Seathi copied it. A trill of pride flashed through her. I'm such a good swimmer! Better and faster and stronger than the rest. Not even a fish can beat me! A glimmer of something shinier in the corner of her eye made her stop and turn. A shell! A pretty shell. She swam up to it and picked it up, before her head broke the surface of the water. The small creature went cross-eyed as she tried to look the the shiny shell she had picked up, which she held in her mouth.

Caryiln stood on the beach, her front hooves covered in the water. She giggled as the feathering around her hooves swirled with the waves, tickling her. The red draft unicorn loved the water, but this was as close as she dared get. She was, after all, too heavy to swim.
Something moved below the water and caught Caryiln's attention. She stood and waded out a little further before she bent her head as close to the water as she could get without breaking the surface. There was something shiny right there...attached to something else that looked remarkably like a soquili and a fish put together. Startled, she gasped and jumped back out of the water.
"H-Hello?" Her voice cracked. Surely she didn't see what she thought she saw. Caryiln called again, this time a little more bravely, "If you're out there...I don't want to hurt you..."

A shrill voice burst through Cyllene's reverie as her eyes snapped to attention. She didn't flinch or jump, but instead curled her body around the shell in a more protective way. "Minh." She mumbled around the edges, trying to say 'Mine'. Dropping the shell so that it was clasped tightly between her front two hooves, the Seathi cast her gaze upon the creature before her.
It appeared to be a very large landwalker, though not as big as some of the sea creatures she had encountered. And it seemed terrified of her too. Giving the mare another suspicious look, Cyllene turned around, darted underneath a small rock and quickly buried the shell in the fronds of a small plant. There. That giant thing wouldn't be able to reach it now. She proceeded to swim back up, her head breaking the surface of the water, to keep guard from this land-walker.
"It's not like you could hurt me anyway! I'm the best and fastest and strongest Seathi out there. I could take you!" Her eyes darted back to the hiding place of her shell.

The unicorn smiled at the small creature, "I'm sure you are. But what's a Seathi?" Caryiln's confused look followed as she once again took in the creature before her. Then she looked past the little one into the water. "What have you got hidden over there?"

"You... don't know what a Seathi is?" The mare froze in surprise, and then curiosity filled her. Perhaps it was not only the sea-folk who did not understand the landwalkers, perhaps the landwalkers did not know of the mer-folk? Well, she had to change that! "I'm one of the merfolk." Her curiosity was so great, that the little mare forgot about her vain exterior.
"We live underwater, some in rivers and lakes and some in the sea. We have a tail," She flipped into the water and raised her tail out of the air, waggling it, before turning around again so her head was back above the surface. "and two hooves." She waved them each in turn at the mare. "We need water to survive or else we dry out. We can breath in the water via our skin. We're awesome at bubble blowing!"
Cyllene's eyes flickered to her hiding place, "What makes you think I hid something?" Blue eyes widened in mock innocence. Just because the mare didn't know about merfolk didn't mean she couldn't dive down and steal her pretty shell.

Caryiln nodded, stretching her neck to look at the Seathi closer. "Oh...nothing I guess." She dropped the obviously sensitive subject and turned her attention back to the absolutely amazing creature. "What's it like to swim all the time? And blow bubbles?" Caryiln smiled dreamily, "I'm too heavy to swim. I've always wanted to though."

Narrowing her eyes, Cyllene gave the mare one last suspicious look, before putting the shell out of her mind. It didn't seem like this one wanted to steal it, though one could never be too careful. She'd had things stollen before, and trying to get them back was never a pleasant ordeal, though nothing she couldn't handle, of course.
"Too heavy to swim? Pfffffffft." She let out a snort, thinking of the huge creatures she'd seen below water. The giant flanks of passing whales in the depths, so huge she couldn't see all the way around them up close flashed through her mind. They could eat her in one bite and not even realise they'd done so, they must weigh a ton. And she wasn't exactly light herself, not out of water. She couldn't move out there! And think of those mers, they were larger than any land-walkers she'd ever seen. "The beauty of water, is that you float. Weight has nothing to do with it!" She flipped over onto her back, easily staying on the surface of the water as though to prove her point. "It's easy. I bet I could teach you."
Her look of suspicious turned into a teasing grin as she relaxed slightly. "Cyllene's the name, by the way. And swimming all day long is amazing. It's the way to live!"
