It was a risky move, deciding to swim in the shallows when the weather was so bad. But Cyllene had never cared for thinking through the consequences of her actions. All she knew was that wave jumping was fun, and thus she would do it. The massive waves and rough current only added to the thrill. At first, it had been amazing. She had leaped out from the waves, belly-flopping onto the surface of the water, and barrel-rolled into the sea as the waves broke on top of her. It was the most fun she'd had for months.
That was last night. By now, it was approaching mid-day and the sun beamed overhead. The weather was much better and the sea had calmed. But the Seathi was not tucked in safety in her seaweed nest. Far from it. During her jumping, she had failed to realize just how close to the shore she was. And when a particularly large wave pulled her out and broke, she found herself rolling across the sand painfully and landing in a decent-sized rock pool.
And she was stuck. Thoroughly stuck. No matter how much she jumped and thrashed, the rock pool remained her stony prison. She simply could not get out, she lacked the muscle for such a leap. She stomped her hoof against a pebble in annoyance. "No way!"

It had been these very beaches not long ago, that he had walked with her. He had romanced her, called her is own. And time, ever so fleeting had taken her away from him. It was...painful to think about, and yet he kept being drawn to it over and over again. The pain didn't matter, he kept cutting himself on the memories of her. Her long hair blowing...the way she laughed....Nights spent together.... He sighed as his feet sunk into the deep squishy mud. She was okay, she was better off without him and that mattered. Drawn from his thoughts by frantic thrashing, he looked around seeing a little seathi thrashing violently in a small pool. "What are you doing down there?" He tilted his head to look.

The Seathi stopped her thrashing immediately and gazed up at the large Soquili standing before her. He was one of those... whatcha-ma-call-its.... the thing that pearl lady was. The weird land-walker that could swim underwater like a mer. Apoletta, dubbed pearl lady by Cyllene, was a pale kelpi that had come across the Seathi previously.
Casting him an annoyed look, she stomped her foot upon the rock below her, trying not to wince as a bruise on her shoulder throbbed painfully from where it had hit the ground the night before. "I'm basking of course, you know... enjoying the sun. In this little rock pool. Alone. What's it to you, rainbow?" She didn't mean to sound quite so harsh, but there was no way she could admit to being stuck. Especially not to this stranger! She was the best Seathi out there, she could get out of here alone. Besides, she was annoyed after being stuck here all night.
But... perhaps it was better to keep the whatcha-ma-call-it close. Not for help of course, just... well yes, for help. Not that she'd ask. Ever.

Illarion tilted his head. "Oh, well it's not very sunny here. I mean, aren't there better places to sun? I thought...you might need help. I can leave though if you like."
He studied her for a moment longer, he was sure she had been stuck. Turning, he prepared to leave.

AHHHHHH! He was leaving! The Seathi scrambled within her pool in panic. Water sloshed about in all directions as she struggled to free herself again. "No... wait!"
Her mouth blurted out those darn words as she froze in horror. The great Cyllene needs no help! She tried one more big leap, mustering up all the power in her small tail and concentrating hard. Her face was furrowed, all her muscles tense. She exploded forwards and... her hoof managed to hook onto the rock outside the pool! All her muscles contracted, trying to pull her up and out to freedom.
For a second, victory-fueled adrenaline flooded her blood. She was doing it! More and more of her skin emerged into the dry air. And then... her hoof began to slip. With a splash, she fell back into the pool. "ARGH!" She screamed; her efforts were futile.

Bedford turned, just in time to see her slosh back into the water. "Are you okay?" He walked back over, tilting his head he looked at her mad little face. "You...aren't very happy there are you?"
He watched as she struggled, "Isn't it just easier to ask for help? To admit, maybe you need someone, sometime?"

"I'm fine." She muttered, though she kicked at the side of the rock pool angrily as though to contradict her words. "I just..."
The words slashed through her like the sharp point of a knife. She pouted, not wanting to admit that she needed help. But... she didn't want to be stuck here. Forever. Alone. No fun. No food. The horror of the idea eventually pulled her to ask.
"Cyllene likes to have fun. But.. Cyllene is very little. Sometimes Cyllene does big things, which make Cyllene feel bigger. But some big things are... too big for Cyllene, and Cyllene gets stuck. But Cyllene doesn't like to feel little, she likes to feel big. So she tries to do the big stuff, even if she can't." She wasn't sure if the stranger could follow her weird explanation, but it was the best she would give him.
"Can you..." She paused, grimacing at the words, "help Cyllene?"

Bedford tried not to laugh at the little one. It had taken a lot out of her to admit that, he knew. It wasn't easy to ask for help, but she had. "You want me to take you back to the ocean?" He asked gently.

Angry defiance welled up within her but she bit back the bitterness, forced to swallow her pride. Drat her small size! If only she were a tiny bit bigger, nothing would ever hinder her. Well, maybe it would, but not small fry like this! With a pout, she nodded, scuffing the ground beneath her with her hoof.
"If the rainbow stranger could, it would make Cyllene very happy." It seemed easier to hide behind the name Cyllene, even if it had the same connotations as saying "me" or "my" or "I". She wriggled her tail in anticipation. Now that the asking was over, she felt a brief sense of relief. She would be in her comforting ocean! This rock pool was not only constricting, but the water was lacking in... everything. The minerals were running low, the oxygen was almost used up. No, she wanted to go back to her kelp forests and coral caves. Soon!

Illarion held back a laugh. "Okay, but trust me, okay?" Gently, he scooped her into his mouth, which he knew had to be an unpleasant feeling and walked the few feet to the ocean and put her in gently.
"Is that better?" She'd probably just flip him off with her fin and be on her way, she was a rather crochety little thing, but the ordeal had amused him so Illarion waited to see what she would say. "By the way, I'm Illarion. You know, in case you wanted to thank me." He couldn't help but smile bigger.

Trust him? Psh. Like she had a choice? She cringed as his mouth moved closer, but managed to keep her body very very still. And suddenly the rock pool swung away underneath her. She gasped as she felt cold air hit her wet tail, reluctantly stifling down the instinct to start thrashing about. But then the ordeal was over.
Her body hit the brine with an audible slap as she struggled free, hooves flaying in all directions. An undignified snort escaped her nose as she turned around and bared her teeth at him. The temptation to stick her butt in his face and swim away was great, but.. her pride had been hurt enough. It was time to regain some.
The snarl left her face to be replaced by a slightly happier-looking upward turn of her lips. The ocean was HER territory now, now she had her confidence and wits about her. "Why thank you, Sir Rainbow, for coming to my rescue. The peril was great, but you stayed brave." Her voice was at first sarcastic, and then slipped into dramatized fear, throwing her head up into the air as though she couldn't bear the thought of it. "How ever could I repay such an epic deed?"
Pausing her a moment, she grinned and caught his eyes with her own. "By the way, your breath is horrific."

Illarion couldn't help but laugh, "You know I can still go in the water right? Next time, I'll remember eat you instead of helping you. And I wasn't the one flailing like I was about to soil the water in fear." Illarion couldn't help but laughing at her again, she was quite a lively little thing.
Amusing, weird or...well, I don't know what else to call her. But she is a nice distraction.

The seathi let out a loud chuckle. "You're welcome to come in, but..." She grinned, barring all her teeth, "You'll never catch me!" As if to make her point, she suddenly darted beneath the waves, did a quick loop around a nearby rock, and then swam back up. "No one is as fast as me!" She stuck her tongue out briefly.
"I wasn't about to soil the water!" Her tone was suddenly whining and undignified again. "I'm not a foal! I was merely... in a strange predicament! It's a risk all we wave-jumpers must take!"
The young mare stopped talking, frozen for a moment in a muddle of emotions, unsure whether to be undignified, grateful or just plain happy. She settled for rapidly flickering between all three as she quickly dove down again, picked up a shiny shell she'd seen, and came back up to chuck it near the stallion's feet. It was all the gratitude he was going to get.

Illarion couldn't help but grin. He had all reason to believe that he could catch her, but there was really no reason to ruin her fun. He did, however, have to hold back laughing as her face flickered between so many emotions.
"Well, I hope you don't get stuck in a puddle again. Seems like it could be quite dangerous."
He jumped back slightly as she launched the shell at him, but then he smiled again. "Thank you. It's very...uhm...lovely."

Cyllene let out a snort, allowing a tone of derision into her voice. "Erm, hello! Danger is my middle name. Cyllene "Danger"... er... Wave-Jumper! That's my full name." She flicked her mane, arching her neck as regally as she could manage. "And I wasn't even stuck, I could totally have crawled out of there if I'd tried, I just used you to get out of there." Her ears pressed back tightly against her skull, trying to make the point that he shouldn't dare argue with her.
"Well, I mean, it's nothing compared to my treasure collection, but yes, it's rather pretty. I accept your thanks." She eyed him warily, checking that he wouldn't say anything else that might jeopardise her reputation. She'd worked hard to make herself the fiercest, strongest, and generally best-est Seathi in the whole ocean, and she couldn't let a little accident like this ruin it. After all, getting stuck was just a hazard of her job as thrill-seeker and treasure hunter extraordinaire.
