Here I will be posting my attempts at drawing compentantly.

Either that or I'll post pictures relevant to my stories/roleplays.

Not all of them will be coloured. If they are coloured, they are most liekly coloured on the computer.

Unless I specify otherwise, a majority of my drawings are drawn via-mouse. I don't have a scanner or a tablet, and have had to learn to adapt.

Good day, and please comment.

First up, since I posted my story, Unjust Slayers, I will also post a picture that I drew for Lykhara's tale. This one actually wasn't entirely mousedrawn. I had someone scan it for me, then I just 'inked' it over with my mouse, and then coloured it with fill gradients because I was far too lazy after drawing all of those stars to properly shade Lykhara (down at the bottom) or the dragon.

eek niiiice.... and you say this is an 'attempt'?
You, unlike me, can do backgrounds. I guess I'm too lazy, but they really complete the peice!

love it!

to be honest, about 5% of my pictures actually have drawn in backgrounds. I usually just find a photograph, or some sort of funky effect or fill gradient to fill in white space.

However, since this was depicting a scene, I felt a background was extremely appropriate.

Most of my pictures are just sketches with no setting.

Here is actually quite a horrific attempt at drawing a face with no references. This was mouse drawn... and I don't know why i did it in red. It was just the last colour left selected, so I used it.

The nose is horrible, and the eyes looks awkward.

For being a mouse drawn pic, it's really good! I have a touch screen, so it's easier for me to draw on the computer.

Do you usually draw with references? Until recently, I didn't think I could (amazing what class does to a person) I still can't, or don't think I can, draw people while looking at them.

I can't draw people while looking at them. I need a Photograph. One that I have traced over a few times before I can even imagine trying to draw by just eyeballing.

Maybe that's why... Even looking at photographs it's hard for me to draw people by looking at them. If I trace, that generally works, but I havn't traced for a year or so.(give or take...) I've revently been going through an artistic growthspurt, which is nice, but.. kinda painful. Some of the pics that I loved right after I drew them a few months ago, I look back at them and I see so many things that I did wrong.

And if the eye and other things that bug you about the pic bug you enough, They can be fixed using a warping or smudging tool (Well that's what they are called in Paint Shop Pro 8, I'm not sure what program you use)

I'm spoiled. I used Corel Photopaint 6 (or is it 7?)

My thing is, once I get to a certain point in a picture, it's the point of no return. I keep my mistakes, as a reminder, even if I can't figure out what went wrong, and no matter how it bothers me, once i begin to shade or colour a picture, the mistakes remain.

And here is a picture. Or two.

Too bad it isn't coloured. That's because I'm still working out how I want to colour it. The painful way with a better result, or the less painful way that might make the lines thicker/pixellier(that isn't even a word!).

Here are two characters from my story Mancers, which I have not posted as a story here, but rather started a role play for. These characters most likely will not feature in the role play, simply because it would unbalance and contradict the rules (yes, I tend to write stories about very SPECIAL people that would be rejected in most role plays).

First up is Maele. That IS supposed to be a girl. I could have drawn her in a dress, but she's far too practical for a dress. In fact, she wears nothing but black. Anyhow, I need to work on her face. She is supposed to be a bit homely, or unattractive in features, and not have a very curvey figure. Her baggy attire doesn't help. Maybe one day I will colour her. Anyhow, she's one of the rare female chaomancers...

Next up is Damyn. He's the one and only male healer (mendmancer)... but few would guess by looking at him - since most healers have a tender disposition (most not all) and gentle features - well and tend to only be female. By the way, I'm not too terribly good at drawing men - since women are far more aesthetically pleasing I tend to look at them in more detail. wink

Looks good! Did you do them with a Mouse?!
eek

Any whoo, they really look good, I could tell Maele was a girl when I first looked at her, and I think you've got it just right for what you wanted to portray.

I think Guys are just hard to draw, donno why, but they just are. *shrug* but Damyn is really well done!

I love them both!

(I've only recently been able to draw guys that actually look like guys, I'll have to put some up soon)

I recently drew a picture of a guy and accidentally made his hips too big... but you won't be seeing that one.

And yes, both of those were drawn with my mouse. Some other people who have seen Maele complained that she looked like a man. I wasn't trying to make her look like a man, just somewhat masculine. I really did not want her to be overly femanine and pretty.

She's the sort of woman that tries not to be femanine, but of course, can't help but slap a guy who makes the wrong comment. Or just glare at them.... I think in the actual story I was working on (I started it for NaNoWriMo and continued on even after November ended) she only slapped someone once, and that was when she slapped Damyn.

Damyn takes way too much effort to keep in character, though. I'm sorry, I'm blabbing too much about the characters. It's hard for me to just draw a character and say "Here, this is one of my characters, I drew it this way, enjoy."

Yeah, I'm having a hard time with that myself. It's just so tempting to tell the whole story that goes with it. In several cases, I draw a picutre then figure out what the persons story is after the fact.

Sweet. So is it just the mouse, or did you use some of the tools, Like in my first pic that I drew only on the computer, I used the 'curves' tool in Paint (that comes with windows).

Kind of the 'I'm a tomboy, so don't make me hurt you' type of thing?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:00 pm

Well, yes, sort of a tomboy... but yet... not. SHe tries to actually remain neutral and 'in control' and 'strong'. She doesn't want to be as emotional as women tend to be (but is WAY over emotional - PSYCHOTICALLY emotional at times).

Quite often I don't make stories after I draw someone. There is the odd time, but most of the things I draw already have a story. With the first picture, Lykhara's Tale, with the dragon and the girl, the picture was the basis for a whole story.

Only recently have I been drawing pictures that go to a story of some kind. People would always ask me,
"Oh, who's that? " and I'd usually answer:
"I don't know, I havn't named them yet." Still do several times.

Like, show me a random picture, and I can probably make a story out of it. What that picture's really about may not be what I come up with , but I will make up a story.
