It was dusk in Galv's quiet little valley. The sun was settling down on the hillside opposite the stand of trees that the unicorn made her home in, and it bathed the sky in colds and pinks. She sighed, happy with the peace of the evening, and watched a bird flutter down to nest in the branches over her head.

It had been a busy day in the valley for Gal. She lived alone, but there were plenty of visitors always coming through. Since she'd moved into the little valley rumor had spread of her willingness to help those in need, and her minor healing powers. It was true she couldn't right out magic someone to good health, but she was a unicorn after all, and she could handle most minor things. The local herd of horses (and rarely a wind or two) would stop by. Today a mare had brought her two foals to her. They'd been playing ,and ended up knocking heads together. Both of them had whined about the ache so much they'd been brought to her for a quick healing touch.

Galv and the mare had had a good laugh at that. Foals were so adorable, if a little loud.

Now that they'd all gone home it was time to relax. With one last look at the setting sun, she clopped her way through some trees. There was a stream this way. She'd have a nice cool drink and then maybe graze until it got truly dark. Then she could sleep under the stars, safe in her valley, if alone.

He wasn't sure where he was heading. All he had was a rumor to go by. A healer.

He wasn't sure if it was morning or evening. His eyes were so swollen from where the hooves had kicked at his face and his body was a mess. He knew he was bleeding, he could smell that much and he was sure a rib might be broken. It was really hard to determine the extent of the damage when one couldn't see. He felt a mess. He was in more pain than he had ever been in before.

He should have known better than to get too close to the herds. His loneliness made him stupid and a part of him felt he deserved the attack. How many stallions had there been? Three? Four? Five? Everything had happened in a blur. The ridiculed him, insulted him, called him a Skinwalker. He looked nothing like the pelted devils.. not really. The words had soon been followed by the brutality. It had been over so fast.. but he got his kicks in too.

More than one of them would be going home scarred as he felt the blood against his back paws. He was a cursed thing, part animal, part beast. Sometimes he felt like giving up, giving in to the pain and the rage and becoming the monster everyone saw him as.

He shook the very thought from his head and pushed onward, despite every bone in his body aching, every muscle begging him to stop. He would concentrate on finding this healer. Would she turn him away? Most did. And right now, he wouldn't blame her. He looked far worse than before.

"Mare," he grunted out, half in pain, half in anger, "Is there a Healer around?" It was all he could grunt out before he collapsed to the ground. He had pushed his body beyond the brink this day. He just need to sleep.

He was..

so...

tired.

Gal had crossed paths with a bird-friend of hers on the way to the stream, and become so engrossed in gentle talk with it that she nearly missed the sound of something large slowly (and clumsily, by the crashing) pushing through the forest to where she was. Thinking perhaps it was the foals' mother come to tell her how her boys fared, her ears perked and she looked back over her shoulder.

A moment's glance made it plain that that was not the case at all.

She saw fangs, and blood. For an instant of panic her senses screamed for her to flee, but before she could take more than two or three steps, the creature's rasping halted her. She remained at a distance, peering closer with intensity...His tawny pelt was stained red, and she glanced up. No break in the trees let the sunset's light through enough to cause this. It must be the poor thing's own blood.

The request for a healer was polite, despite his fierce looks, and enough to get her to approach him. Though he was stranger than anything she'd seen before--what horse had claws and fangs and suck wicked spikes?--it was plain that he was far from hurting anyone. A closer look revealed the hoof-shaped gashes and bruises along the poor beast's body...She snorted softly, brows furrowing in a momentary fit of anger. Who would do this? Instantly she thought, maybe he is a villain, and rightly met justice. That thought too angered her though. Whomever'd done this had been brutal, vicious. And she shouldn't judge him before she healed him.

"Yes," She said simply. "And a good thing you've found her." His stillness assured her that she was in no danger, and she sank down beside him. Her nostrils twitched and flared as she smelled the wounds along him. The face first, she decided, and dipped her slender pale green horn to gently p***k the abrasions around his eyes. Her powers weren't the strongest, but she hoped it would be enough to ease his pain, at the least.

Without waiting to see, she began working down his body from the head, brushing and poking each wound she came to that seemed in need of immediate help. The bruises could wait, for now, and she thought the cuts more urgent. Once she reached his side, and found the cracked rib (the bruising here was far worse) she looked back at the stallion's whiskered face. "What are you, strange one, that has brought this kind of wrath upon you? I cannot recall ever seeing one like you, with claws and teeth and horns before. What ever's done this must have been strong indeed...You look like you could put up a good fight."
