Beo took a deep breath, letting the smell of rain and wet ground flow over him. He loved the rainy season, and for more reasons then just the life giving water it gave. It seemed to clean the earth, to wash away the spoil of the past year.
As was his habit, Beo had left the Pride territory for a couple of days once the rain had started. He'd started this pilgrimage since he had grown into adolescents, and would continue to do so for several more years to come. Beo was, to put it bluntly, in search of a female who might do him and the Kitwana the honor of baring his pups, and allowing him to bring some of them back to the Pride.
Others did this as well, but with how many of the lions who feel ill, more and more support staff was needed. So, to that end, Beo was seeking a willing female. So far his search had come up emptied pawed.

[[ Moving this starting post to this thread since we appear to have both started the same RP. xD ]]
She was hungry and had been for quite some time. This was the problem with flying 'solo' so to speak, and it wasn't the first time she had experienced pangs of hunger. Any sensible person might have told her to 'eat' but things weren't always as easy, or simple, as this. The truth of the matter was that Bahati was unlike most lions in the sense that she possessed neither the experience or the knowledge of how to hunt anything larger than a small rabbit. Given that smaller prey could be difficult to find, she sometimes had to wait long periods between meals before finding something appropriate.
Ah, but if only she could take down the graceful antelope, eh?
It had been three days or so since her last proper meal and a lack of suitable prey had caused the isolated feline to move away from her favoured grounds towards a new location. She hadn't gone too far, acutely aware of the roving bands on Hyena and the occasional violent lion that might take an objection to her existence. If there was one thing the lioness knew how to do, it was to survive, and rest assured provoking unnecessary violence was not the way to do this!
Nevertheless her wandering had paid off and having moved just a touch northward and away from her former hideout, she soon discovered the telltale signs of a food source. Hidden behind or in between various shrubs were small openings, either indicating rabbits or meerkats - given she couldn't see any of the meerkat gangs in the distance she would have to hazard a guess that this would be rabbit dens. She could be thankful for small favours in this respect since rabbits were significantly easier to catch than meerkats, they didn't tag team her.
This in mind the petite lioness quietened her paw steps as she approached this particular 'hunting' ground and lowered her head. Seeking out an appropriate vantage point, she had soon deposited herself comfortably on a rock overlooking one of the many openings - she'd have time to leap from here, wouldn't she? Well, she would soon find out, for the time being she would just have to hope that this was no one else's land!

Beo padded down between the rough outcroppings that marked the boundary of the Kitwana'antara held lands, his paws making very little sound along the rocks. It wasn't that he was trying to be very stealthy, but with the wet ground and very scrubby vegetation it wasn't very hard to slip across the terrain almost silently.
In all truth, the hyena's mind was not on where he was walking, or how quietly he was doing so, it was more on the slight issue of what he was going to say when he found a female willing to not only have pups with him, but take at least one away with him to a Pride that was fairly insular. He was a rather shy soul if you weren't sick or dying, and really didn't know how to go about it at all, and all the things he thought of to say...well they just didn't seem right.
So it was with this weighing heavily on his mind that he leapt down form on of the higher out cropping onto the flat rock below, and well...basically on top of the lioness that seemed to be sunning herself, despite the cloud cover above.

The first thing she had been aware of was that a shadow had fallen over her, the second thing she had been aware of was that a heavy weight landed squarely on her back and momentarily pinned her to the rock she had been resting on. It took a few seconds for the adrenaline to kick in, but eventually it did and it was with a startled roar that she thrust herself forward to dislodge whatever or whoever had pounced on her. Not even a second later she had leapt from the rock, landed on the ground below and had tumbled over as she lost her balance. By any other lion's standard this was certainly not the most dignified way to introduce oneself or to escape...
Thankfully the tiny lioness did manage to recover and no sooner had her tumble come to a halt than she had picked herself back up. Now comfortably on her paws, she spun round to find out just who was had been so mean as to attack her. As ironic as it might have been, it was a Hyena and it was in those moments that her ears flattened against the back of her head and the hairs on the back of her neck began to lift - Hyenas always roamed in packs, didn't they?
That meant there would be more!
Her eyes slid away from Beo for a brief instant as she flicked her gaze about her in an attempt to discern exactly where the others might come from. All her instincts told her to run, but a small voice in her head reminded her that if she picked the wrong direction she could end up cornered. This was not good, she didn't like sticking around in the face of danger even if it was the 'smart' thing to do.
...Oh dear.

Beo winced as he realized that he'd landed on a lion, though by the look of her she was very, very young or just very small, and he'd guess rather scared at the moment. The Secret Keeper knew the look she wore, he'd seen it a thousand times on the faces of the sick cubs he cared for day in and day out.
The look of trying to be brave, but really just wishing to be told it was going to be ok, and there wasn't a need to be afraid. Beo did his best to comfort them, but never once did he lie. He wouldn't tell them it would be all right, unless it was going to be. At least with this young lion, he could say that.
He sat down, and wagged his tail, giving her an apologetic smile, " I am very sorry. I did not see you taking in what little sun there was today. Please accept my apologies. I am alone, just passing through. There will not be any others to hurt you...and I certainly will not."

She didn't really know what that gesture meant. She was largely, if not completely, inexperienced when it came to other creatures. With the exception of those who stole her food or chased her from 'their' lands, she had never encountered another who would either converse or presented her with body language that the general populace might have considered as non-hostile. Fortunately for both she and Beo, Bahati was intelligent enough to understand verbal communication and had been blessed with education in that respect - or rather, she had been taught how to speak before she had runaway from home.
Consequently, when the words escaped from his lips and reached her ears he did give her pause for thought. She wasn't to naive as to trust him immediately, past experience had taught her this was unwise, but she could appreciate what he was saying. For all intents and purposes the Hyena was apologising for unceremoniously depositing himself on top of her - it was certainly a unique greeting by most standards.
"There aren't any others?" she echoed caustiously, her voice soft and a touch hoarse from lack of use. It almost seemed that she was ready to believe him but this didn't stop her from once again glancing around and even lifting her head to try and catch the foreign 'scents' in the air - so far she'd come up empty pawed but for all she knew, they were all down wind. "It didn't hurt," she added as an after thought in relation to his apology and then promptly shook her head.
Ah, but it was then that she realised the disturbance she had created would have blown her cover in the dens below and as such her face fell. Now it was going to be an even longer time before she found some dinner!
"But Hyenas hunt in packs, they always hunt in packs..." she added uncertainly, her nose crinkling as though she didn't understand the concept of a hyena that wandered alone.

Beo watched the young lioness with keen eyes, noting how she remained wary and alert. It spoke volumes of her life, no matter how short it was so far. He decided to lay down on his belly, putting himself in a far less secure position for her peace of mind.
" Most hyena's do live and work in packs. I do not. I belong to a Pride. I live and work with lions and other felines. We live just beyond the ridge there, but it is a dangerous place for your kind. Best to keep away from the borders. It is clearly marked when you are treading to close." His tone was patient, kind and gentle.
" Have you eaten yet tonight?" He asked, his golden eyes seeking her gaze and holding it, " If you haven't, I am happy to find us both something. I am called Buliwyf, or Beo to my friends."

His decision to lower himself onto his stomach did wonders for her nerves and the feline relaxed just a little in his presence. Her lips remained pursed but the hackles around the back of her neck began to lessen the more accustomed she grew to his presence. Whoever he was, he wasn't like the hyenas she had previously met and slowly but surely she was accepting that perhaps, there was truth to his words. Any hyena who was in a pack wouldn't spend so long speaking so gently and reassuringly, now would they? They would simply wait until their cohorts were in position and then attack - given she couldn't smell any other individuals anywhere it was clear that he was alone.
...But he was in a pride? This baffled the lioness, as, even though she had left many years ago, in her old pride it would have been unheard for non-lions to be present. It simply didn't happen and even then, when she had been a babe she had recalled a hatred for hyenas in particular. It was astonishing how bizarre certain parts of the world were and how little she understood but politics had always evaded the feline's understanding of the world, it was simply too complex.
"I never go near borders," she replied in a guarded manner and shook her head, her brow creasing. She had every reason to avoid the borders of other prides, in particular, in case they knew of her former one! "Not my place, I don't like to intrude," she pointed out. However, when he made reference to eating she regarded him with suspicion before slowly shaking her head. "No, I was waiting," she explained and then lifted a paw to point at him, her brow furrowing considerably.
"And then you landed on me." she stated, decidedly unimpressed to the point that a childish and almost petulent tone crept into her voice.

Beo lifted an eyebrow, watching the thoughts flash across her expressive face. She was clearly unsure, and he would guess had a rather difficult life. Certainly her para-language spoke volumes in that regard and he wondered again at her cubhood.
" My Pride's borders are especially dangerous little one, the lions there are very ill and carry a plague only your kind and those who share lion blood can catch. You should not linger in this area long, to be safe."
The dark colored hyena flicked one ear forward at her petulant tone and manged to school his features not to chuckle. She reminded him very much of his Yendji's cubs, and for a moment his heart hurt thinking about the black lioness.
" Ah, my deepest apology for that, as I said, I did not see you. Allow me to make it up to you. Come, I saw a herd of gazelle as I came down the hill side. Let's see if we can not manage one for dinner."
He stood and shook out his mane, turning to head in the direction he had seen the four hoofs grazing. Looking back at her over his shoulder, he wagged his tail, " Coming?"

She knew a warning when she saw or heard one, and Beo was making it very clear that this region was much more dangerous than any other she had been in. In many respects, this was a surprising revelation, as she had been in some fairly hostile territories in her time. Each time she had stumbled upon one it had been completely unintentional but she had learnt her lesson very quickly - there were places in this world you just didn't go. Truth be told, she had learnt that lesson the hard way as a child.
Fortunately the feline was no fool in this respect, and, she filed the information he gave her away for further consideration. She wouldn't go any further and she certainly wouldn't linger for long if she could avoid it. The only reason she had appeared in this immediate region was because she'd been hungry! Her search for food that was complimentary to her skills had led her here, if she could find a more desirable place... well, she would gladly move along.
Nevertheless, there was one thing he said that did pique her interest, while also horrifying her in the same moment. He wanted her to hunt for gazelle? Those animals were huge! There was no possible way she could down something that large, and even then, you had their family to worry about. She didn't want to be skewered alive and the fear of this shone through clearly on her features. Hungry she might have been, but not enough to commit suicide!
"But we'd die!" she squeaked.

Beo chuckled, the sound warm and comforting, so unlike other hyenas with their high pitched cruel sounds. He seemed almost like someone you could trust. " I promise you we won't die, we will be taking down one that is well past their prime, old and sick, weakening the herd. If we are very lucky, the one we chose will come willingly to us, knowing that it is their time."
He gave her a gentle, encouraging smile, " Come little one, have a little faith and trust me. I will make sure no harm befalls you and tonight you will sleep with a full belly, and for the next several nights as well."

He certainly didn't sound like a proper hyena...there was something in the way he spoke and the tone of his voice. She couldn't quite put her paw on it but it seemed to be deeper, calmer and without that touch of malice. She might not have known the specifics but the most important part she did recognise was that he didn't frighten her the same way that other predators did. He was certainly frightening in the sense that he was a stranger and he had landed on top of her, but he didn't appear to have the same demeanour as the hyenas that were inclined to rip her face off... this in mind, she did begin to relax ever so slightly.
She remained quiet, still an ample distance away from him as he spoke. The longer she listened to him, the more her curiosity was piqued and by the end of his explanation her eyes had widened owlishly and her ears had perked. It wasn't that she had grown comfortable with him, she was still very wary...but what he was promising - a full belly and one that would last for more than a night! She hadn't experienced that since she was a baby and that alone was enough to tempt her. Besides, she was curious as to what he said was true; would the ill and old really come to him because it was their time...?
"Okay," she murmured softly and crept forward just a touch. "I'll go with you," she confirmed.

The golden hyena smiled at her and tossed his head in the direction he had seen the herd, "Come on then Little One, we will stay down wind of them and to the lee of the ravine." Giving her an encouraging smile, he began to pad away, his nose to the ground, tail down, picking up the scent of their prey.
