The colorful Soq named Roxanna was wandering around, something she did all the time. Her lifemate and her family were relatively local sorts, who didn't wander nearly as much as Roxanna did. She had flown a good distance, and was now on the ground. Because she was a hybrid, she didn't have the light bones that one of her relatives (somewhere) had. But that was fine, she was just like her daddy. Her wings streched and she tried to relax her sore muscles. Maybe she had gone too far this time around? Bright blue orbs surrounded by black eyeballs and a black mask glanced around to see if she knew where she was. That was a big fat no. Roxanna had no idea exactly where she was, nothing stood out to her as a landmark or anything of note. Some trees, a bit of a meadow, some rocks. Frowning to herself Roxanna stomped a single hoof before grumbling outloud to herself. "What'd you go and do this time, Roxanna? Dad'll have your hide if you got lost again."

Standing at the edge of the trees Yanamari looked out across the meadow before her. Open spaces were her least favorite places, the allowed others a clear view of her and her unfortunate Kalona traits, traits which she always hated. Unfortunately she could do little to hide her Kalona heritage except for keeping her wings as tight against her body as possible, hoping that the feathers would hide the leathery wings that they were attached to. Much like her wings she also kept her tail held closely to her back legs. Oh if only she were a full blood Kirin, then the world would be perfect.
After a few moments of hesitation she stepped out from her shadowy hiding spot into the openness of the meadow. Okay well this wasn't so bad after all, the day was quite beautiful, there was plenty of grass to eat here and she was certain she had seen a small lake, or possibly a river not far from here. Everything one could want all in one spot. A gentle breeze blew through, almost beckoning her to travel further out into the meadow. Well you only lived once, so Yanamari trotted forward letting the wind blow her long mane back. Perhaps today would be different, and with that thought in mind she looked forward to the day ahead.
Up ahead was a small patch of wild flowers, of various colors, soft pinks, yellows and even some vivid reds. Bringing her hooves to a stop once she reached the flowers Yanamari bent her head down and took in their sweet scent.

The meadow was very different from what she was use to back by the lake. The flowers were different, the smells, and even the sounds. Her ears twitched as she listened carefully to the sounds in the meadow. It was odd, the trees muffled a lot of the noises in the area. She was use to hearing just about everything bouncing off the sound of the water in the lake. There was one noise that couldn't be mistaken though, and that was the sound of hooves. Someone else was in this small meadow, probably around the bend in the trees.
Once upon a time her father had probably worried about her personality. She was a friendly sort, with very little fears about what strangers could do to her. Now that she was a grown mare, those sorts of feelings hadn't gone away. In fact, it had probably gotten worse. But Roxanna was a full grown mare, and in fact a full grown alicorn. She had wings to fly away, and a horn that was at least scary looking when paired with her mask. The skulls that decorated her body also helped ward off some, depending on if they didn't like to associate with possible bad eggs. It was just how she had been born. And Roxanna didn't care a bit what others thought of her.
She trotted forward, eager to meet the other Soq in the meadow. She walked bold as you please around the bend and almost came nose to nose with the other female. However, this female was a little different compared to any other Soq Roxanna had ever met before. She had a horn as well, but it wasn't one like Roxanna's. Shaped very differently indeed! And her wings... and tail... and were those scales on her body? For once Roxanna was speechless when meeting someone. Instead she just stared at the other, perhaps a little rude, but utterly curious about this other Soq. She did manage a bit of a greeting after a few silent moments.
"Hello."
Rude. Silly Roxanna.

The wild flowers smelled quick lovely and reminded her of her mother, as they used to live in a decent sized meadow that would fill with all sorts of wild flowers each spring. She missed her mother greatly and really should return home to visit her sometime soon, problem was seeing her mother and how depressed she was, especially when seeing the Kalona features of her daughter, pained Yanamari greatly. Her father was a sore point to both her and her mother so the less she saw of her mother the less pain they would both need to endure. Caught in her thoughts Yanamari missed the approach of the other until the mare was directly in front of her.
Yanamari took a step back in surprise, nostrils flaring at the shock of having been snuck up on. Was the other mare staring at her? Suddenly Yanamari felt more embarrassed then ever and she averted her eyes for a moment. Finally when the other mare spoke Yanamari returned her gaze to look at the masked mare before her. "Oh...hello." Say something else, Yanamari mentally scolded herself, but being a bit shy she found there to be a certain lack of words springing forth from her mouth. This is not how one made friends, so Yanamari did the only thing she knew would work.
Glancing down at the flowers, so as to avoid eye contact and that awkward sensation that washed over her when doing so, she spoke once more. "Are...you uh from around here?" As long as the other mare didn't think she was talking to the flowers it should be alright.

Roxanna had no idea she was making the other feel uncomfortable, or rather why the other even would be. She had never seen such features before, and was excited by them as much as she had been excited by the ocean. New things were always interesting and fun! The brightly colored mare took a step back and ruffled her feathers for a moment before responding in a very cheerful manner.
"Not at all! I was just exploring. My name is Roxanna, what's yours?"
Ooooh boy. She was in a very chipper mood apparently. Probably because she was so curious about the other female. She fidgetted, almost like a child. Even her eyes beneath the mask were wide and curious. Poor thing, she was an adult and even mated! Acting like a child was just plain silly.
"Um... if you don't mind me asking... I must admit... I've never met a Soq that looked like you do! It's so interesting. Your wings are so different from mine..."
She moved so she stood paralel to the other mare and extended her wings so Roxanna could look back and forth between the two. Maybe this would make it clear that Roxanna was not shocked by the other's kalona traits, and was in fact, rather bewildered in a good way about them. Her wings looked so interesting... some feathers yes, but what was the bottom half?!

Yanamari's brows furrowed a bit. This mare was...well she seemed to be very happy that was for certain. To be honest it was somewhat of a relief. She could deal with overly happy much better than she could hatred or anger. Already she was beginning to relax, perhaps for once she could make a friend instead of an enemy. Truth be told Yanamari really did need more friends, all too often others chased her off due to the unfortunate Kalona features that she possessed. "Oh." She finally said, the relief quite clear in her voice. "I'm Yanamari....it's good to meet you Roxanna."
Things were looking up, this mare was friendly, was exploring the lands. Then things turned downhill...she mentioned her wings. Though...she didn't seem put off by them. How strange.
Yanamari shifted her hooves nervously. Likely the second she told his mare what her wings meant she would flee in terror. Another friend lost. Taking a deep breath Yanamari prepared herself for what she knew would come, it always did. "Oh...well...they are Kalona wings." With that Yanamari averted her eyes and waited for the scream of terror that would surely resonate from the mare in a moment. Perhaps she could just ripe her wings off, yes it would hurt like all hell but at least she would be free from their curse. Of course her tail she could do even less about, surely ripping that off would cause more pain and good and how would she prevent herself from breeding to death in that case. Oh well, stuck with the curse for another day.

"Kalona wings?"
It was more muttered under her breath than anything else, though she was curious sounding more than anything else. As if she had never said the word Kalona in her life, nor heard anything like it. She had lived a rather sheltered life, and had no idea of Kalonas. The alicorn hadn't really had a run in with anyone foul, so it was with a child like interest that she spoke. Roxanna's own wings fluttered a bit once again.
"Can you fly like a wind? Or are you a little less able to?"
Roxanna almost seemed excited at this prospect. For if the other female couldn't fly, and fly, and fly like a wind soq, then maybe they could go on flights... if they ever became friends. The multi-colored alicorn was getting ahead of herself.
"Sorry, I can't fly for very long, and besides my family I can't find anyone who can fly about the same as I do. I'm just excited at the thought of someone out of my family that could possibly fly at my pace."
She smiled sheepishly, but no doubt friendly like. Roxanna took a few steps back to give the other female some space and relaxed. At least she tried to relax a bit, as she was getting over excited about the prospect of gaining a new friend.
"Were you wandering around as well?"

Wait...there was no scream of terror, no slue of name calling, no nothing. It was odd and yet refreshingly welcoming. Lifting her head Yanamari let a rare smile cross her lips. "Yeah...Kalona wings." She had never expected this mare to be so accepting of her appearance. Did she not know what Kalona were? Possibly, but telling her they were dangerous creatures that should be avoided would surely end the conversation.
"I..." She began and glanced back at her wings for a moment. "I don't know. Winds are pretty good at flying. I tend to not fly." The less she used or even acknowledged the presence of her wings the better. "Usually I just use them for short flights." They were more for getting around larger objects that would take for too long to walk around.
The next question made Yanamari pause. Where had she been wandering to? No where, as per usual, just away from everyone and everything that would call her a monster. "Oh, I didn't really have a place to go in mind. Was just wandering about." Lifting her head Yanamari glanced around them and then settled her gaze back on Roxanna. "Were you headed any particular?" She likely was, most Soquili wandered with a purpose and no doubt this mare was headed to visit with family or friends or do something important.
