 Gienah fussed around her spot on the border of the coalition, cleaning bits of stray twig and grass out of the way. This had been her childhood playground long ago, but now it would serve a more adult and noble goal. She'd spent the last few days making it presentable, clean and neat, and lugging useful supplies from the coalition center. She'd discussed this idea with others in her family, and they'd mainly been supportive, so now it was all a matter of carrying out her plans.
She turned in circles, examining the cleaning with sharp scrutiny. She'd torn up nearly every plant, raked flat the dirt and stones, set up a leather tarp to serve as a comfortable seat. She had pots and bowls with various useful ointments. It all looked good.
Satisfied, she settled down next to the tarp and struggled to find her patience. It would probably be days, or longer, before she was useful to someone. She'd spread the word around the coalition that she was out here, on the border, where anyone member or rogue could come and speak to her in private about their health. But she wasn't even sure she'd be taken up on the offer. During the long wait she'd just have to pass time by making healing salves.

 Karne Kumain wasn't entirely sure where he was or if there were any other hyenas around or, for that matter, if there were any lions around. Lions of the sort that overreacted when hyenas were on their land and ate their food. So far, the day had been uneventful though.
As he continued to meander, up ahead he saw another hyena - it looked like another hyena from this distance - messing with a lot of objects on the ground. What could that be - food? Bones? Sticks?
No, it was a bunch of pots with strange smelling stuff in it. On the other hand, the hyena fiddling with all of them was very pretty indeed.
"Hey there, dollface. What's a vamp like you doin' on a prairie like this?"

Her eyes quickly picking up the green shape, Gienah watched curiously as the hyena came towards her, her hope perking up. He wasn't a member of the coalition, she knew that much, but neither did he seem aggressive. It was too soon to expect strangers to know about her medical profession, wasn't it? She slapped on a cheerful grin anyway, nodding politely as he came to greet her.
His words flummoxed her. Was he speaking in some pridal slang? What was a vamp? "Hello there stranger," she replied anyway. "I'm setting up a medical space. I'm a healer for my Coalition, so I needed a place to tend to patients." She eyed him thoughtfully. "Are you suffering from any ailments? I do treat foreigners." She didn't see any immediately apparent, but sometimes illness was subtle.

Was he suffering from any aiments? Just loneliness. Nah, that sounded too corny. And what was she talking about, foreigners? Maybe she was in some kind of a pack, or something. One never knew.
Anyone, Karne's goal, now that he had met a pretty female, was to get the pretty female to think he was handsome enough to spend some time with, maybe get stuck on. And whatever all these bowls were was obviously important to her, so the way to her heart and her sleeping space was probably through those.
"I'm just swanky, just wandering through. Is all this stuff your medicine? You certainly have been busy working on all of it, it looks like."

Gienah mouthed the word 'swanky' in mimicry of him, mulling it over in her mind. Another form of slang, perhaps. But she picked up on his curiosity, and nodded eagerly, pleased to show off her efforts. "Yes, some of it. I only brought the most common and useful things, since I didn't expect any patients so soon, to be honest." She pointed a paw at the bowl nearest to him. "That one's for aches, and the one next to it is for infected wounds."
Now that her mind was switching into medical mode, she begin to think of him truly as a 'patient', whether he wanted to be or not. She inched closer and scanned him over carefully, then paced about with her head angling to catch different perspectives of him. "Would you like an examination?" she asked. "Often creatures don't even know they're sick at first, but sometimes I can pick up signs."

If this hyena seemed a little bit rougher around the edges, Karne might have thought that the examination offer was a way of coming on to him. However, she just seemed eager to help.
"Sure, wouldn't want to get sick and not know about it. Should I just lay down, or stand somewhere?" Karne had never been examined before.

Gienah concentrated carefully on not jumping with excitement when he agreed to an examination. Her very first real one! She'd only practiced on tolerant pack members before, but never for real purpose! "Standing is fine, unless you're more comfortable sitting," she said quickly, and crowded in to start scrutinizing his face. Nose clean, jaws not swollen with infection or disease. Eyes clear. Ears... could be cleaner, but no mites that she could see. Pelt well groomed, mane likewise.
"Do you suffer from any aches or pains?" she asked absently as she peered deeper into his ears to look for buildup. "Discomfort with your gums or teeth?" Open your mouth and let me have a look at them." Good teeth health was very important for a creature. A hyena with poor teeth was soon a hyena starving because it couldn't chew its food. "Go like this. Gwaaaaaah," she demonstrated, with a gaping jaw, tongue lolling out.
